Re: ACN 2013 - final games > 9 - 10 February 3rd place playoff preview: 3pts Ghana to beat Mali 23/20 Ladbrokes Obviously betting on third placed playoffs is never an easy thing to do because the key thing in these matches are motivation but Ghana were beaten in this match last year and that could give them motivation. Football wise I think the Ghanaians have the players to open up this Mali backline like the Nigerians did and should they exploit that weakness I would expect them to run out slightly easier winners than when the two sides met in the group stages. Re: ACN 2013 - final games > 9 - 10 February Final preview: 4pts Nigeria to beat Burkina Faso 11/10 William Hill When these two met in the group stages Nigeria controlled the game but were punished for not finishing Burkina Faso off and Alain Traore took advantage of Nigeria having a man sent off to equalise late on. Since then Nigeria have moved through the gears whereas Burkina Faso have come through the draw but haven’t really moved up the gears. They could have a lot more to come but I fancy that Nigeria still have some more in them too and I expect them to win this final. Re: ACN 2013 - final games > 9 - 10 February I agree with kevshat - Nigeria to win! But I'll share my own preview as well as I wrote it for my blog anyway: The big final of the African Nations Cup! Strong Nigeria is facing a huge suprise team Burkina Faso. This is their second meeteing ever, first one ended 1-1 with a last second equalizer from Burkina Faso. This game is first and well, probably last chance to BF to win a major trophy while Ghana has won it 2 times already. I will break it down into several points:

  1. Nigeria is way better on paper. They have been the best team in the competition this year and prove to be with a very deadly attacking line. Burkina Fasos trump may be that they don’t have any stars and have a balanced team with great team spirit but I don’t think that is going to be enough today, since Ghana is at least as eager to win and as motivated.
  2. These two teams met already in the group stages and Ghana controlled the game and lead 1-0 most of the time. They should have finished the game off but what actually happened was that Ghana left-back Ambrose was sent off in 74th minute and Burkina Faso equalized in the 94th minute.
  3. One of the most important facts for me: Burkina Faso has played all their games so far in Nelspruit (Mbombela Stadium) and this has helped them a lot since the stadium is in a bad condition and sandy where their opponents who would like to play faster and more attacking game, can’t do that. The final is held in Johannesburg so Ghana can gom attack and their fast attacking players can do a lot of damage to Burkina Faso. Another fact – the only games Nigeria failed to win (1-1 vs Burkina and 1-1 vs Zambia) were played in that same sandy stadium.
  4. Ghana coach is ex-player Stephen Keshi who won the tournament with Super Eagels back in 1994. So this give him the extra knowledge and emotions to carry on to his players.
  5. Burkna Faso has played two 120 minute games in a row, semi-final ending with a penalty shoot-out while Nigeria demonstrated great form in play-offs finishing games off with 90 minutes.
  6. Altough Nigeria has few doubtful strikers – V.Moses who scored 2 goals against Mali and Emenike who has scored 4 goals this tournament – they still have quality subs. But the main thing is that both players just have little knocks and both are very-very eager to start. Emenike even declared that he is aiming to be the top scorer of the tournament after the final, so … he is gonna give 110% no matter what. Burkina Faso is missing their best player Allan Traore due injury, but Pitroipas unfair red card was canceled and he is ready to play.

So, taking all these facts into consideration, I think Nigeria is going to be the new champions of Africa tonight and odds over evens are good value. My pick: Nigeria AH -0.5 @ 2.06 with Pinnacle (4,5 / 5 units)
