The Australian domestic T20 tournament kicks off on Friday and this year the entire event is live on Sky as well as on the bookmaker live streaming websites. Lots of star names have been signed for the competition so it should be a cracking tournament. Schedule: [TABLE=width: 630]

Re: Big Bash League 2012-13 Tournament preview: 2pts ew Hobart Hurricanes to win Big Bash League 6/1 Blue Square (1/3 1-2) The Hurricanes were semi finalists last season but will have Tim Paine and Ricky Ponting available all of this season and Doug Bollinger is a canny signing. With the likes of Xavier Doherty, Jason Krejza and Ben Hilfenhaus when he’s available the Hurricanes have a good bowling line up to go with their strong batting line up and they are my idea of the winners of this season’s Big Bash. Re: Big Bash League 2012-13 1pt ew M.Klinger Top Tournament Batsman 25/1 Skybet (1/5 1-3) 1pt ew M.Cosgrove Top Tournament Batsman 40/1 Skybet (1/5 1-3) Initially I fancied Phil Hughes to go well but with Australia calling him up to the test squad he won’t be around much now so the Adelaide Striker player I like at a fair price is Michael Klinger. Klinger is having a good season so far and is sixth on the run list in the Ryobi Cup which is the Australia domestic one day competition. On short boundaries the Adelaide opener should go well in this competition. Mark Cosgrove is a hard hitting batsman and there’s no way the boundaries at Stadium Australia will be big enough for him. He doesn’t do much in the way of running singles so the hard hitting former Glamorgan player is likely to deal mostly in boundaries so his home ground should be right up his street. He’ll be opening the batting alongside Chris Gayle and that looks a partnership which can get the bowlers off their lengths quickly and allow them both to wade in. At 40/1 Cosgrove is worth backing too. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/big-bash-league-betting-michael-klinger-and-mark-cosgrove-can-take-advantage-of-small-grounds-to-score-runs

Re: Big Bash League 2012-13 Game 1 preview: 3pts Melbourne Renegades to beat Melbourne Stars 6/4 Betfred The Renegades could be worth a little poke here in the hope that they catch the Stars cold. I think long term Melbourne Stars will probably be a bigger threat for the title than the Renegades but there isn’t a huge amount of difference in the two bowling attacks here and the likes of Finch and du Plessis are in excellent form with the bat for the Renegades and they can keep them not only competitive but also make them victorious. 1pt ew S.Warne Top Tournament Bowler 25/1 BetVictor (1/4 1-5) Shane Warne is clearly bang up for this tournament as you can tell if you read his tweets or catch any of the Australian papers where he's even suggesting he can come back and play for Australia. That's nonsense but there's no doubt in my mind he can bowl still and when you look at the Stars bowling attack he could be the one who gets targeted and with that he could get some cheap wickets. Warne has been chuntering on about a new ball he's worked out so it is clear he has been practicing hard and he wants to impress Liz and the kids and also as captain of the side he needs to be worthy of his place. He went ok in the tournament last year when the Stars offered little. I expect them to offer more this time with their captain potentially leading the way. 3pts Sydney Thunder Most Team 6's 9/2 Paddy Power 1pt Adelaide Strikers Most Team 6's 16/1 Paddy Power As I said in the top bat write ups these two play on the two smaller grounds in the league and so I think we'll see a few sixes out of those sides. The Thunder have Chris Gayle who might even outscore some teams on his own while the Strikers have Kieron Pollard in their ranks and the boundaries at the Adelaide Oval weren't big enough for him before the construction work let alone now when they've all come in. Both grounds are small and both play four games at those grounds and in Adelaide's case they play a game at Sydney Thunder's ground so I think there is every chance one of these two sides hit the most 6's in this year's Big Bash. 2pts Brisbane Heat to finish bottom 6/1 William Hill Brisbane Heat have been hit hard with injuries particularly in their bowling attack and Dale Steyn being pulled out of his spell hasn't helped matters. Daniel Vettori has been ruled out of the tournament and you would think the Heat are going to see precious little of their marquee signing Shane Watson who will be on international duty for much of the competition. Heat's batting looks a bit light and while the likes of Kemar Roach will go well when he's fit he can't be guaranteed to be fit all the while. With the Renegades signing some improvement I think there's enough to believe that the Heat will finish bottom of the table. 2pts B.Hodge Top Melbourne Stars Tournament Batsman 7/2 Bet365 Brad Hodge has churned out T20 runs ever since the format came into play and in a warm up match the Stars had he carried on his good record in the game. Hodge may have retired from the longer formats of the game but he's still a dangerous threat in this format. With nearly every other batsman in the Stars side in or around the Australia test or one day squad and could possibly disappear at any time Hodge looks the more secure bet in terms of playing every match and with his record in the format the 7/2 looks pretty big to me here. 1pt Fawad Ahmed Top Melbourne Renegades Tournament Bowler 8/1 Paddy Power Fawad Ahmed is a bit of an unknown quantity but he's already being watched by the Australian selectors who are desperate for a new leg spinner and he's been fast tracked into an Australian passport to get him qualified quicker. Near enough nobody in this tournament will have seen him before so that is to his advantage and if he's as good as the hidden hype makes out then this 8/1 will be too big even allowing for Murali being in the side most of the time. Australian batsmen generally don't play spin too well so I can see the Pakistan born leggie having some joy in this tournament and at 8/1 I'll pay to see just how much.

Re: Big Bash League 2012-13 Game 2 preview: 4pts Sydney Sixers Highest 1st 6 overs 8/11 Coral It’s a little bit early in the season to be backing the Sixers to win this match at 4/7 even though I expect them to win. I think the better bet could be the 8/11 that they win the first six overs match. Warner and Haddin will get the scoreboard off to a fast start while when the Sixers bowl Brett Lee and Mitchell Starc will be hard to get away. With Gayle not around at the minute I think the Sixers will enjoy the early momentum. Re: Big Bash League 2012-13 Sunday previews: 4pts Hobart Hurricanes to beat Brisbane Heat Evs William Hill I like the Hurricanes here. With a batting line up which could consist of Ponting, Birt, Shah, Styris and Wells they have that area of the game covered and their bowling attack looks one of the best balanced in the tournament. Brisbane have gone down the route of playing a lot of all rounders who apart from Watson are all much of a muchness really and are neither out and out batsmen or top quality bowlers. With the balance they have Hobart look good value as outsiders to me. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/brisbane-heat-vs-hobart-hurricanes-betting-hurricanes-can-begin-the-tournament-with-a-victory-in-brisbane 4pts Adelaide Strikers to beat Perth Scorchers 6/5 Betfred I think the Strikers are decent value in this match as I’m a massive advocate that bowling attacks win T20 matches. Of course Shaun Tait’s radar can go a bit wayward but scoring off Saeed Ajmal and Johan Botha won’t be too easy. Perth have a top batting line up but after the top two or three it can be a bit one paced, as we saw in the Champions League, and that’s enough of a concern for me to take the Strikers here. Perth have a top batting line up but after the top two or three it can be a bit one paced, as we saw in the Champions League, and that’s enough of a concern for me to take the Strikers here. 2pts J.Mennie Top Perth Scorchers Tournament Bowler 8/1 Paddy Power Joe Mennie looked quite good in the Champions League and he bowled in the right time in the innings for taking wickets which will be a help here. Perth's bowling attack looks to revolve around the spinners Beer and Hogg unless Alfonso Thomas refinds his magic from a couple of seasons ago. Hogg will miss some matches in this tournament to play for Australia I would imagine while Beer is hit and miss at the best of times. Mennie has good pace which is exactly what you want at the WACA and if teams get behind the rate and lose wickets that pace could clean up a couple of tails as the tournament goes on. 8/1 is a huge price for someone with the pace and accuracy he has and it has tempted me in.

Re: Big Bash League 2012-13 Wednesday preview: 5pts Melbourne Stars Most 6's vs Perth Scorchers 5/6 Blue Square The Stars are a bit short for me even though I think they will win the match but I’m a lot more confident they will win the six hitting battle. Shaun Marsh hit three of Perth’s five sixes in the opening match and he’s unavailable here while the Stars have the likes of Luke Wright, David Hussey, Cameron White, Glenn Maxwell and Brad Hodge who can all clear the ropes comfortably. If all goes to plan Lasith Malinga will bowl four tight overs which Perth can’t hit sixes off so all looks good for the Stars to hit the most sixes in this match. Just this one for me. As Alf has said it could rain during the game so I'm not going mad on this game.

Re: Big Bash League 2012-13 Thursday preview: 4pts Adelaide Strikers vs Brisbane Heat - Over 8.5 6's 5/6 William Hill We saw in the test match in Adelaide recently how the construction work at the Adelaide Oval has brought the boundaries in by some way and the likes of Kieron Pollard, Dan Christian, Joe Burns, Thisara Perera, Michael Klinger and Nathan Reardon can all clear the ropes so I expect to see at least 9 6’s in this match if not a hell of a lot more. Re: Big Bash League 2012-13 Been watching quite abit of this tournament so far so thought i'd put up my thought on tomorrows game. Like Kevshat i'm going to delve into the sixes market for this one. Quite fancy Adelaide to out do their opponents here and clear the ropes most. Hughes will be missed but Keiron Pollard comes in and will certainly add to their batting line up, he is obviously a very explosive batsmen on his day. I was also impressed with Nathan Reardon in their last game too and just feel with the weak Brisbane bowling attack they could just take advantage here. Brisbane have Roach available and although he is a good bowler doesnt have the best T20 record out there, they'll also miss the services of Shane Watson too who is important to both their batting and bowling. Overall i feel that odds represent a decent bet and would have them as favs in this market in my opinion. 1pt Adelaide Most Sixes @ 6/5 William Hill

Re: Big Bash League 2012-13 Friday preview: 4pts Sydney Thunder vs Melbourne Renegades - Over 9.5 6's 8/11 Skybet My gut instinct is that the Thunder will win this match but the safer bet looks to be for there to be over 9.5 6’s in the match. With the likes of Gayle, Finch, Mahmood, Rohrer, Samuels and Cosgrove in the two sides there’s plenty of big hitters and not really a standout bowler on either side to limit the damage. Stadium Australia is a big venue but the boundaries aren’t the biggest, particularly straight so I expect to see a lot of 6’s in this match. Re: Big Bash League 2012-13 Saturday preview: 4pts Hobart Hurricanes to beat Melbourne Stars 11/10 Bet365 I thought going into the tournament the Hurricanes will go well in this event and I saw nothing in that first match to suggest they won’t and they are the value in this match for me. Both sides look fairly evenly matched with match winners in plentiful supply on both sides. It’s not very often I take a Warne led side on but at odds against the Hurricanes look the best bet here. Re: Big Bash League 2012-13 With a squad that includes Gibbs, Voges, Katich, North, Shaun Marsh, Alfonso Thomas and Brad Hogg it is hard to believe that Perth are 13/8 with Paddy Power to beat the Sydney Sixers in the morning. They haven't had a good start at all however I think this is far too big and certainly worthy of a bet. 6/5 for Perth to record the highest first 6 over score seems like value to. Available market wide. Or you could wait until the toss, and back whoever is chasing!
