Re: England > Midweek > Rest of non-league Oct 8-10 Carshalton at home to Bognor looks interesting. There are rumours of a player exodus at the home side as the budget has been severely cut and a caretaker manager who "doesn't want the job". Bognor are not the best opponents to land a touch with several regulars missing. I've taken 13/10 although 11/8 still available. I think I'll take the 12/5 on Arlesey at St Albans based upon the 1-2 win for the away side in the FA Trophy just over a week ago. Arlesey are in fine form, franked by a defeat of Conf North Brackley in the FA Cup on Saturday. It'll be copse, but 12/5 seems fair to me.

Re: England > Midweek > Rest of non-league Oct 8-10 Bognor Regis Town away at Carshalton Athletic (11/8 BetVics) Even on current form this is a decent play: Bognor are unbeaten away and Carshalton have landed just two points out of nine at home. But the context of the match makes the visitors attractive at anything over Evs. Paul Dipre's experiment as owner-manager is over and a talented squad is in the midst of being dismantled, with a number of departures last week and more expected to be confirmed this week. Even if the departures are not as wholesale as some rumours are suggesting, the air of uncertaincy at the club makes Bognor a very handsome play. North Ferriby United away at Stocksbridge Park Steels (Evs BetVics) I remember tipping this match-up last season, when Ferriby went on to lose 7-1. I can't see that happening this time - Ferriby are credible title challengers this time around, with an excellent strike force that has benefited from the arrival of Ryan Kendall, a hard-working midfield and a rearguard that's decent enough. They're staying in matches when they are under the cosh and they have so far found a way to unlock sides who play it tight - both of these elements are advances on last season. SPS broke their duck at Grantham on Saturday but it was a fortunate win and even if they have improved from the early weeks, they're defending poorly with 11 conceded in four at home. Arlesey Town away at St Albans City (12/5 widespread) Not one to to go massive on, but this price is well beyond my own. The sides are closer than the prices suggest, and Arlesey's firepower gives them a real chance. St Albans are a fancied side and that has been added into the price: this really is one that could either way, even if there is a danger that Arlesey will let their standards drop after a good cup showing. Hendon at home to Eastbourne Borough (17/10 Betvics) Another speculative one, given that Hendon have been ineffective at home. But they were good at Eastbourne in the first match and the personnel changes at Eastbourne - Charlie Ademeno has gone, Josh Scowen's loan has ended, and there are more comings and going expected - it looks like a transitional Eastbourne for a few weeks.

Re: England > Midweek > Rest of non-league Oct 8-10 Went to watch the FA Cup game between Hastings and Hitchin on Sat which finished 2-2, and Hastings were pretty fortunate to get away with the draw. Bwin have priced Hitchin up at 2.2 for the replay which is tonight and the odds for the first game were Hastings 2.05 Hitchin 2.80 as far as I remember. Hitchin were the better side in all honesty and although I was in the bar getting a drink at the time (always the way) I was assured it was a bit of dodgy goalkeeping which put Hastings 2-1 up and resulted in the said goalkeeper getting abuse from his own fans for the rest of the game! I think he was a Polish lad who didn't seem very confident at all apparently the first choice gk was a best man on Sat and couldn't attend, but will be back tonight. Both Hastings goals were down to Hitchin errors though the first being a poor backpass and the fans I was talking to seemed to think Hitchin were very poor compared to usual standards and Hastings certainly performed well compared to other games I've seen, Hitchin would expect to go through, I got the feeling any chance Hastings had would be in the home game. Hitchin 2.2 or 6/5 in old money would be my play, small stake.

Re: England > Midweek > Rest of non-league Oct 8-10 Cripes. Chalfont best priced 9/2 and even that is being cut, we are hardly any bigger than we were for the first match at home! We've been priced up as if we were playing a division higher than we actually are despite not taking a single point in the league away :\ Which I guess is a compliment but as far as backing us goes it's a complete no no. On the face of it, backing the hosts at 4/7 would seem logical, but for obvious reasons I won't :lol

Re: England > Midweek > Rest of non-league Oct 8-10 From everything I have read it seems that Chester were under the cosh against Halifax on Saturday and, although Halifax needed to equalise latish in the second half they were unfortunate to have gone behind in the first place. Both sides finished with ten men after a bit of handbags but Chester also finished with a completely makeshift backline due to injuries during the match. The rewards for the winners is a trip to struggling Lincoln and the chance for a BSP scalp. Both teams will be challenging for promotion at season's end. Bookies vary as to favouritism, with, earlier today, Halifax either 13/10 fav or 23/10 outsiders!! I reckon the home team can earn a trip to Lincoln an will take whatever the biggest price is available.

Re: England > Midweek > Rest of non-league Oct 8-10 Halifax have now outplayed Chester both the times they have played them, but they lost the league game and obviously drew on Saturday and that is a slight concern although if they are 23/10 then that price is rather big. Just checked and they were 23/20 but never 23/10.

Re: England > Midweek > Rest of non-league Oct 8-10 Knew I should have got on Bognor earlier and they are now odds on across the board bar Coral who are 6/5 which I have taken. I agree with everything that has already been said on the game by the other two.

Excellent result with a very winnable tie at home to Blackfield & Langley in the 4th Qualifying round.

Yeah I know! Sounds like Hitchin were disappointing, Sean Ray has certainly got some spirit in the team they have lacked in previous years. Apologies to anyone who followed..think its 5 years since Hastings got beyond the first qualifying round, so this is turning into quite a run..

Re: England > Midweek > Rest of non-league Oct 8-10 From one of the Carshalton fans' sites: "Ray, Vines, Bird, Carew, Gray, Clark have left. "Board have decided that the club has to live within its means meaning the budget has been slashed. Team will be a mixture of youth and experience and will be able to compete. "Hazel back with the Academy, 'Football Genius' sole caretaker manager'." That's all contracted players who've gone, as expected. It doesn't mean they are in Kettering's situation because they've some senior players left and a solid academy set up - a young side beat Heybridge 3-0 in the Trophy ten days ago. Danny Mills, who scored twice, is probably starting tonight, as is the excellent Harry Harding, who also scored. But it'll be a largely young and inexperienced side and they will take time to get up to speed. The price has gone far enough - Bognor at 8/11 is about right - but it does mean that anything over Evs is a sporting play.

Re: England > Midweek > Rest of non-league Oct 8-10 St Albans 1-0 Arlesey A poor showing from the away side and so different from the performance that won at Hemel last month. St Albans' physical strength dwarfed Arlesey's attacking pairing of Drew Roberts and Chris Dillon. Could and should have been 3 or 4-0. Bishop's Stortford finally overcame a resolute Chalfont with a 3-1 win that flattered the home side.

Re: England > Midweek > Rest of non-league Oct 8-10 Very decent night. The main event was Bognor and they duly delivered. Ferriby also won at a canter, though the two longer shots Arlesey and Hendon both failed. I'm guessing there was plenty of investment in Bognor tonight. Good calls by LG on Bognor and Barton Bank on Halifax.

Re: England > Midweek > Rest of non-league Oct 8-10 I watched Halifax and Chester last night, it´s not often i get chance. Halifax started well and were dominating, went one nil up. After 20 mins they seemed to almost consciously drop a gear, they definitely did when a Chester defender deservedly got sent off after 25 mins or so. The rest of the game Chester came into it, but Halifax were definitely coasting in second gear, when they wanted too, they appeared able to step it up, for instance at the start of the second half, to go 2-0 up, then again after Chester pulled it back to 2-1, Halifax quickly restored the two goal cushion. The first twenty minutes impressed me and Halifax, who had Gareth Seddon on the bench and marque summer signing Dan Gardner still out, looked a cut above. It´s hard to imagine that any team will be better than Halifax in this league. Dale Johnson, Ryan Toulson and Jarrett all stood out for Halifax.
