Re: Wales > Premier League > 2012-13 One game stands out to me straight away which is Connah's Quay to beat Aber. Connah's Quay have started their time in the WPL brilliantly and look like a side enjoying the honeymoon period following promotion. They have won three games out of four so far, with the other game being a respectable 2-1 defeat away to Bangor in a close game. They have been playing well and I don't honestly think there's much of a difference in quality between lesser WPL sides and the better sides in the Huws Grey Alliance (2nd tier) as shown by Rhyl and Cefn Druids' performances in the Welsh Cup last year, so perhaps we shouldn't be surprised. Aber meanwhile have been abysmal. Everything traeth and others have said about the manager's ineptitude seems to be evident from this season's performances. They are bottom, yet to win and have conceded 15 goals in 5 games. They lost the last game 0-5 at home and the one before 7-1 away. In both games they were shocking. I think the odds are wrong across the board. Odds greater than 2.1 suggest the bookies think Aber are the better side and on current form I disagree. Best price is 2.38 with Stan James which is what I've taken, with medium stakes.

Aberystwyth host half a Llanelli side that hasn't been paid for several weeks that is also depleted due to suspensions and injuries. Ashley Evans, Chris Venables and Luke Bowen are suspended after getting sent off in a 3-0 home defeat against Newtown while attackers Craig Moses, Geoff Kellaway and Jason Bowen are all out injured. Manager Andy Legg has expressed his concerns earlier in the week that his job at the club is approaching impossible and is considering his options which surely hasn't helped the dressing room. The squad of 16 that they will take up to Aber consist of 3 goalkeepers, 2 youth players and the assistant manager. Aberystwyth on the other hand have recovered from their 7-1 smashing of Bangor by drawing 0-0 in the reverse fixture, conceding 3 late goals in a 5-0 drubbing at home to Port Talbot and their first win last week away at GAP Connah's Quay. They seem to have turned a corner and will fancy their chances against a Llanelli side who don't want to play for the club anymore as they are not getting paid by the chairman. Airbus UK (@ Newtown) @ 6/4 [Ladbrokes and SportingBet] (4/10) Airbus UK were considered to be European contenders in preseason as manager Andy Preece exercised his contacts from his time at Northwich Victroia to bring a lot of new players into the Airbus side. Newtown on the other hand were expected to be near the bottom and fighting for survival again this season. Airbus have started the season slightly behind pace but like Aberystwyth, they seem to have turned a corner and have also picked 4 points in their last 3 games. They will be looking at their upcoming fixtures and think that they could put a run together as they have 4 games that they will be favourites to pick up three points from. They have a stronger team and a much stronger squad than Newtown do and they performed well at the ground last season winning comfortably 4-0. I expect them to win again this time round.

Does anyone know where I can find odds on the welsh cup today?

I know it's too late but only two firms (Fortuna Win and Bwin) priced up the Welsh Cup last weekend, except for a couple of all WPL ties which were covered by all the usual bookies. Odds were horrible (except for those two ties) because both firms were taking big margins, and in the two all WPL ties which were more comprehensively covered I couldn't find any value. I didn't have a bet and I don't think you missed much.

Re: Wales > Premier League > 2012-13 Connah's Quay vs Prestatyn Over 3.5 @ 2.09 (Betsafe) 2.5/10 This has been a very profitable bet for me this season, backing over 3.5 in Prestatyn's games. Up front they have two players Price and Parkinson, who are both football league veterans and into their late thirties now. They are a class above most players in this league and have been causing opposition defences no end of problems. Prestatyn also have some decent midfield players who create chances, but their defence is poor and they leak goals. Connah's Quay are the same in that their strikers are very good at this level but their defence is even worse than Prestatyn's. Striker Rhys Healey has had trials with various professional clubs including Man City and is tipped to go on to play at a higher level (he is only 17/18). He's been scoring for fun as is his striking partner (whose name currently escapes me) so I really think goals are on the cards here. Prestatyn's games have averaged 4 goals a game whilst Connah's Quay's games have averaged 4.65 goals per game. Prestatyn's games would have beaten this line 11 times in 16 games, whilst for Connah's Quay that figure is 9 times. The only thing that puts me off a higher stake is the fact that both have had some under 3.5 games lately, however Prestatyn had a number of players injured and suspended which was cited as the reason for the goals drying up by their manager. Both teams were back to high scoring games at the weekend with Connah's Quay winning 4-2 and Prestatyn winning 4-3 in the Welsh Cup. The other thing that puts me off is possible regression to the mean; there have been loads of goals generally in the WPL this season (in fact it has been the highest scoring league in Europe) but last season there wasn't as many; last season only 40% of games went over 3.5. However, the season is nearly at its halfway point and as I've said from watching these two sides I'd say their goal statistics are not a fluke, therefore I think this bet is good value.

They might be worth a bet at TNS in the next round, possibly on the Asian Handicap. The only bookmaker that routinely covers the Welsh 1st Division are Paddy Power but they only cover the Southern section of it and their overround comes to 112-115% for those games. I am restricted with them anyway. Very occasionally Bet365 and sometimes other bookies will cover a 1st Division game (sometimes the Northern section as well) but only if the game is on a weeknight with a lack of other matches on...basically if they think they can attract addicts rather than just those with inside knowledge. I've known some of them to go in-play as well.

Bangor City vs Carmarthen Bangor City -0.5AH @ 1.45 Bet365 7/10 There has been a significant drift on Bangor today and the odds look very good value. Bangor are traditionally a formidable side at home; if we don't include their matches against full time TNS they have a home win ratio of 77% over the last three seasons. Carmarthen are one of the smaller sides in the league, but they are difficult opposition to play against. They are the sort of side who gets men behind the ball, try to win free kicks, long throws and corners, strong and organised, kind of like the Stoke City of the WPL. They recently won 3-0 away at TNS, which helped manager Mark Aizlewood (who I rate) to get the manager of the month award, this was a result which surely burst a few people's coupons. I fancy Bangor's chances of battling it out more than TNS, TNS are more of a football side whilst Bangor can mix it up, they have some skilful players for this level but also play a fair bit of long ball football themselves. Indeed they did win 1-0 at Carmarthen earlier this season. I have searched for reasons for the drift on various forums and I can't find any injury news or similar; I can only think people have earmarked it as a potential upset after Carmarthen won at TNS. I am going against the drift, just because one shock result happens doesn't mean more will follow. Bangor are usually a reliable side to bet on at home, and Carmarthen despite their good form are still at best a mid-table side. 1.45 equates to only a 68.9% chance of winning, I think the real probability is closer to the 77% home win percentage I mentioned earlier. I think this is a good value bet.

Good to get some contributors to this thread. I gave up tipping the WPL for a while due to the lack of interest but am going to try again. It's a good league for betting on and I have been able to turn a decent profit & decent yield. Bangor have risen to 1.57 now!! I wish I hadn't got on when I did but can't be helped. That's some strange odds movements, I am going to have to look again for possible reasons for it. 1.65 is not enough to tempt me with TNS away at Port Talbot, though they should win. GL with your bets!

Re: Wales > Premier League > 2012-13 One bet I've done is under 3.5 in the TNS-Bala game @ 1.95 (Bwin). TNS have conceded the lowest goals in the league whilst Bala are a fairly boring side, really. They will get men behind the ball and try to frustrate TNS, a tactic which has been successful @ TNS a few times this season. Carmarthen, Newtown and Llanelli all managed a clean sheet, with the first two also winning, whilst in the Cup lower league Conwy managed to take TNS to extra time; all these games also finished under 3.5 goals. In fact 6 out of TNS's 9 home league games, and 6 out of Bala's 8 away league games have finished under 3.5. I can really see another such game here and I think odds are favourable. The possession football TNS play tends to lead to relatively underish games and as I've said Bala play defensively. I have also taken either team not to score @ 2.55 in the same game, also with Bwin, for a lower stake, with the same reasoning.

Prestatyn manager Neil Gibson will have a thorny problem to solve if Jon Hill Dunt succumbs to the achilles problem which forced him off on the half hour against Newtown. If that injury does keep the popular glovesman out his replacement then Gareth Barker, (right) once of the New Saints academy, is likely to continue. Defensive concerns should ease with the return of Anthony Stephens following his one match ban but he must continue to rule ouf former blues leftback Martin Beattie who is still recovering from an operation. Another one time Bangor defender Paul O'Neill is set to start with Greg Stones also in the frame. Midfield options are strengthened by the return of player manager Neil Gibson who was has missed three matches through suspension. A third former City player - albeit not for long - tall midfielder Michael Parker is also likely to play. Bangor boss Nev Powell has a selection headache which was hardly helped by the Bala match being called off. Although first choice goalkeeper Lee Idzi would seem set to start, the shape and composition of the defence infront of him is hard to picture.
