Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet North & South Aug 18 There are enough numbers to have some early plays. Harrogate Town away at Hinckley United (6/4 widespread) BetVictor were briefly going 8/5 but it didn't last. Even so, 6/4 is still rather big. Hinckley have had a troubled summer, with a good number of their better players departing and useful triallists moving on to a better payday. The one highspot of pre-season was a 1-0 win over Nuneaton, which was a worthy result, but they were hanging on for most of the game after an early goal. Other than that, they've lost to Stamford, Quorn and, most worryingly, at home last Saturday to a weak Bedford Town side with an XI that will resemble what they'll have out on Saturday. What they have got is a side that barely knows each other and is some way from being finished. Defensively, to give him his due, Dean Thomas has put together a capable unit but further up the field things look a touch anonymous. Harrogate Town never feel like natural betting material but they have been preparing well and have added some sound bodies to a core of decent players, with Adam Bolder the pick. We'll hopefully see a lot more of Jonny Allan this season, and Chib Chilaka, who has been sharp in pre-season, is in theory a dangerous strike force. Even given first-day qualms about the surprises that happen, I can't fathom why Harrogate are so far out. Chester away at Oxford City (10/11 Coral) Man for man, Chester look stronger going in this one, although the price doesn't offer massive value. Even if their squad doesn't look quite finished I'm happy to oppose Oxford City, who I feel may struggle with the adjustment. They've lost James Clarke - last season's outstanding player - initially to a loan spell at Yeovil, but instead of coming back to the club he signed for Salisbury in the South. Jamie Cooke is a decent signing, but the squad looks no match for the visitors in what will feel like a home game for Chester with a big following. Hayes & Yeading United away at Weston-super-Mare (5/4 BlueSQ) BetVictor soon snuffed out the 13/10 but 5/4 is sporting price. Who knows what H&Y will serve up this season, but I'm reasonably confident they'll be a competitive outfit, and a very entertaining one, too. Sam Cox looks a good signing and we'll be hearing a lot about Kudus Oyenuga in the months to come. Full marks to Nas Bashir from assembling this young bunch of misfits (plus Manny Williams) into what should be a decent side - instead of the score two, concede four of last season, perhaps they're now a score three, concede two outfit. Weston are used to upsetting applecarts and they've kept the squad largely intact, except that Sahr Kabba - a vital weapon with his pace - has gone to Havant. They won't be terrible, but I'm getting on Hayes while the pitches are green and they are still full of youthful fearlessness.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet North & South Aug 18 Four bets for me and a couple are the same as Ships Hinckley v Harrogate Into the Blue Square North and hopefully the league will be a lot easier to predict this season after last year proved a tough one punting wise. Hinckley were lucky to stay up as they finished in the relegation zone but were reprieved thanks to Darlington and Kettering. I don’t think they will be so lucky this season though. They look in a bit of a mess going into the start of the season and have had a pretty dreadful pre-season. It’s basically a brand new team and it’s looking like they will need plenty of time to gel. They certainly don’t look to be a team of great quality anyway. I’m not sure I have ever backed Harrogate as they always seem so inconsistent, but yet again they look to have a decent squad going into the new season and it wouldn’t be a total surprise if they challenged for a play-off spot. At the very least they go into this game in a much better shape than their opponents and look a cracking bet at 11/8 with Blue Square and Coral. Workington v Stalybridge Stalybridge are another who are having to re-build after last season. They really should have got in the play-offs at least but a shocking second half to the campaign saw them fall short. Jim Harvey has had to pretty much get a new team together after most of the best players departed and all the signs are they will need time to gel. Workington are a hard side to read as they disappointed a little last term but will certainly be hoping for better this time around. I’m pretty keen to take Stalybridge on as I think they will have a slow start to the season and BetVictor’s 13/8 about a home win is worth taking. Salisbury City v AFC Hornchurch Salisbury look like one of quite a few sides who could sneak into the play-offs in the Blue Square South this season and the capture of Chris McPhee is particularly eye-catching. They look to have a great chance of getting their season off to a good start as they face promoted side AFC Hornchurch. I watched a handful of Ryman Premier games last term, including AFC Hornchurch against champions Billericay, and have to say the standard of football I witnessed was pretty poor compared to the Blue Square South. I think both AFC and Billericay need to find plenty of improvement if they are going to finish in the top half and it wouldn’t surprise me if at least one of them went back down. Indeed I would have opposed Billericay on Saturday but they play troubled club Truro so it’s a tricky match to punt on. With a season in this division already under their belts, and an improvement in the squad, I expect Salisbury to be too strong here and Coral’s 5/4 is a decent price. Weston-Super-Mare v Hayes & Yeading It is hard to know how the away side are going to get on this season after relegation from the BSP, but on paper it looks like they have a pretty decent squad so a play-off bid wouldn’t be a total surprise. They certainly appear to be better than a Weston who over achieved for much of last season until fading towards the end. They have lost their star striker and the manager has admitted that he is lacking in three or four areas but doesn’t have the money to strengthen at all. That has to be a big concern for their hopes and I can’t see them doing as well as they did last time around. Again they look a team who will need a bit more time so Hayes are worth backing at Coral’s 13/10 and are already odds on in places.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet North & South Aug 18 Just worth adding that Truro are actually only going to have a max of 13 players travelling to Essex tomorrow and it may only be 12. Billericay also have a bit of an injury crisis at the moment as well though so its hard to know how to play the game and thus I stick with what I have written above and will leave the game alone. Its a shame though as Id like to have taken both teams on this weekend.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet North & South Aug 18 Welling v Bath City Last seasons losing play off position will be built on by Welling. I see them doing at least as well. Bath meanwhile are a team in transition having lost Marley Watkins to Hereford and Scott Murray has retired. Bath may do ok but will start slowly. Welling for me at 21/20 with stan james.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet North & South Aug 18

Hayes were a loser for me but Harrogate were very much the main event for me today and they landed at 6/4 and better. Solid win for Chester, too, to make it a decent start to the season. Good calls by addpea on Harrogate and Worko.
And Salisbury ;). Disappointing Hayes didnt go on and win after Weston went down to 10 men. Sounds like Boreham Wood gave Eastleigh a bit of a lesson this afternoon.
