Sri Lanka Premier League

As is the way with cricket these days another T20 Premier League has popped up and this one is being screened mostly on ESPN in the UK. It's the first time Sri Lanka have had their own Premier League and features 7 teams and works much like most other leagues. Each team plays each other once before the top 4 go into the semi finals. The tournament is played across the 3 big grounds in Sri Lanka so there is no home advantage for anyone so the best team should win. Schedule: [TABLE=width: 630]

Re: Sri Lanka Premier League Tournament preview: 2pts Kandurata Warriors to win Sri Lanka Premier League 5/1 Skybet The Warriors will be led by Kumar Sangakkara and have Johan Botha and Saeed Ajmal as overseas players who should both go well on Sri Lankan wickets. Albie Morkel and Thissara Perera can provide the biffing the team needs as can Sanath Jayasuriya who is out of retirement for this tournament. With Sri Lankan internationals Paranavitana and Samaraweera in the squad too they have a good balance of home and overseas players and could well be the ones to win the inaugural tournament at 5/1. Was hoping there would be some other outright markets priced up but not to be so this is my only outright bet in this tournament. For those following it can be taken at 6/1 with Boylesports which is what I've just taken.

Re: Sri Lanka Premier League Today's TV game preview: 4pts Kandurata to beat Basnahira Evs Bet365 I am concerned about Basnahira’s batting in this match, especially if Dilshan were to fall early and I’m not convinced the likes of McKay and Nannes will be suited to these Sri Lankan wickets. Kandurata are my outright pick in this tournament and I believe they have the balance in their squad to not only be a threat in the tournament but to get off to a fast start by winning this opening match. Re: Sri Lanka Premier League Monday's preview: 4pts Kandurata to beat Nagenahira 11/10 William Hill With both sides having rain affected matches in their first match we haven’t really learnt a lot about either team. If this is a full 20 over match I would expect Kandurata to prevail. I still believe they have the more variety in their batting line up and their bowling attack should be too good for most sides in this league. Re: Sri Lanka Premier League Tuesday's preview: 4pts Ruhuna to beat Uthura 4/5 Coral If the Uthura bowling attack can be more threatening this should be a good match but they will need to be because it is hard to see their batsmen scoring the kind of runs they did in the first match against the likes of Afridi and Malinga. Those two can win a game with the ball on their own but with Wahab Riaz around too Ruhuna have that area of the game covered. If Finch, Thirimanne and Harris can score solid runs the Royals should have too much for Uthura in this one. Re: Sri Lanka Premier League Friday's live TV previews: 4pts Wayamba Highest 1st 6 Overs vs Uva Next 4/5 William Hill With their attacking mite at the top of the order compared to the slightly steadier opening pair of Uva Next’s the 4/5 about Wayamba leading through 6 overs interests me greatly. With a top three of Tamim Iqbal, Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal Wayamba’s hitting keeps coming and that’s a powerful enough trio to allow me to take Wayamba in the first six over match. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/wayamba-vs-uva-next-betting-wayamba-s-powerful-top-order-can-have-them-ahead-after-the-first-six-overs 4pts Nagenahira to beat Basnahira 10/11 Ladbrokes Angelo Mathews has led his side very well even though he isn’t bowling at the minute. He has enough good bowling options to get by without having to use himself and with the bat he has batsmen who can get his side ahead of the rate before the spinners come on which is important in Sri Lanka. I’m slightly concerned for the Basnahira batting if Dilshan doesn’t get going and we’ve seen already that even if he does there’s no certainty they will win. Re: Sri Lanka Premier League Tuesday TV previews: 4pts Uva Next to beat Ruhuna Evs Bet365 Ruhuna aren’t putting the runs on the board and while Uva Next aren’t ever going to put up the 180’s and over scores they will always be solid with the bat with the likes of Chanderpaul and Malik in their ranks. Occasionally the likes of Jacob Oram will propel them to a bigger than usual total but with Ruhuna struggling for runs I see Uva Next picking up their third win of the tournament here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/ruhuna-vs-uva-next-betting-uva-next-s-better-batting-consistency-can-earn-them-a-third-win 4pts Basnahira to beat Uthura 4/5 Ladbrokes Although Basnahira’s attack hasn’t fired in this tournament yet you get the feeling if it is going to it will be here. Uthura clearly have problems in the batting department and in the space of 36hrs they’ve not had much time to sort them out. There is a slight concern that if Dilshan doesn’t fire then neither does Basnahira’s batting line up but they probably have more in their side to cope than Uthura do so I’ll take the Basnahira win here. Re: Sri Lanka Premier League Saturday's TV match preview: 4pts Ruhuna to beat Basnahira 10/11 Stan James Two poor, out of form sides do battle in this match but I fancy Ruhuna to win the game purely because they have Malinga on their side and his four over spell could easily prove to be the difference as it has in so many T20 matches down the years. Basnahira don’t really have a lot to offer with the bat or with the ball so even though they’ve struggled so far in the competition themselves I’ll just edge towards Ruhuna here. Re: Sri Lanka Premier League Monday's TV match preview: 4pts Uva Next to beat Nagenahira 10/11 Ladbrokes Nagenahira will want to regain their form before their semi final and if they win here and avoid Wayamba then so much the better. I like Uva Next in this match though. The momentum is with them and in Andrew McDonald, Umar Gul and Jacob Oram when picked they have a good spine of their side especially with Tharanga in good form at the top. You just feel Nagenahira are light with the ball and their main batting comes down the order which doesn’t help so I’ll go for the in form Uva Next here. Re: Sri Lanka Premier League Second semi final preview: 4pts Nagenahira to beat Kandurata 8/11 William Hill Nagenahira haven’t lost anyone from their final round robin match so personnel wise they have the advantage and they also have the advantage of knowing they won by 7 wickets when these two met earlier in the tournament. Even at 8/11 I think Nagenahira look solid favourites here.
