Re: European Tour Event 3 - European Darts Open - July 6-8 Tournament preview: 1pt ew A.Hamilton to win European Darts Open 40/1 BetVictor (1/2 1,2)

Gary Anderson’s withdrawal has opened the bottom quarter right up for someone and I think that someone could well be Andy Hamilton. Hamilton was runner up in a Players Championship tournament last weekend, his second tour final in the last two months. He has a trappy first round match against James Hubbard but if he can win that the draw really opens up for him and the least I would expect is him to make the semi final. Full preview here:

and this one. 1pt ew T.Jenkins to win European Darts Open 25/1 Boylesports (1/4 1-4) Taking the lower price for the better each way terms because the second quarter of the draw looks a very tasty affair. Jenkins is in the top quarter and I think he can come through that. Usually you would steer well clear of the top quarter because you would be hitting Phil Taylor early on in the competition but Taylor hasn't entered this week so that won't be happening. Instead Jenkins will potentially be running into Adrian Lewis in the quarter final and the world champion looks a bit vulnerable at the minute so a semi final spot is very much up for grabs. Jenkins is in good form at the minute. He made a quarter final in a Players Championship event last week along with the quarter final of the UK Open last month where only Phil Taylor was able to stop him. He won a floor event in May and made the quarter finals or beyond in four others in 2012 so Jenkins is returning to some of his better form and if he plays well this week a semi final spot is within his reach at the very least. From the semi finals onwards these tournaments are anyones so at 25/1 Jenkins looks a decent each way punt to me.

Re: European Tour Event 3 - European Darts Open - July 6-8 Just the one match bet for me this afternoon. 4pts M.van Gerwen to beat W.Jones 8/11 Ladbrokes

Michael van Gerwen should still be full of confidence coming into this tournament whereas Wayne Jones won’t have much of that so this looks like a good opportunity for the Dutch star to move into the last 32 and probably further with the way the draw is panning out. I expect him to score too heavily for Jones and he rarely misses the sort of doubles Jones will need him to in order to stay in this match. Full preview here:

Re: European Tour Event 3 - European Darts Open - July 6-8 Some evening session previews: 4pts D.Winstanley to beat B.Dolan 8/11 Paddy Power

Both men appear to be playing well so this should be a case of the better player winning and in my mind the better player is very much Winstanley. He is a very heavy scorer and he hasn’t been missing two many doubles and if he continues on that path then he should have too much for the one paced, and in my opinion slightly overrated, Northern Irishman here. Full preview here:

http://www.punterslounge.com/dolan-vs-winstanley-betting--dean-winstanley-s-power-scoring-can-be-too-much-for-one-paced-dolan 4pts M.Hylton to beat J.Klaasen 4/5 Stan James

I can’t really see beyond Mark Hylton in this match. He is the more solid player anyway but the boost his confidence will have had last weekend should give him an extra edge in this match. Full preview here:

http://www.punterslounge.com/hylton-vs-klaasen-betting--mark-hylton-can-continue-his-improvement-in-form-by-beating-klaasen-in-dusseldorf 4pts K.Huybrechts to beat P.Nicholson 4/5 Boylesports

These two have met on three occasions in the past and Huybrechts has won on all three occasions which is no surprise to me as he matches up well to the Geordie come Australian. Nicholson isn’t in good form whereas the Belgian is and I expect the form to hold up in Friday’s finale. Full preview here:

Check the PDC site for proper times. +2.12 after both match bets win and both outrights go out on the opening day. Three for this afternoon's session. 4pts K.Painter to beat C.Osborne 5/6 Bet365 Not sure why bookmakers can't split these two because Kevin Painter has developed into much the better player of the two. Colin Osborne's form has completely left him so much so that he's only made it to the last 16 on three occasions in 2012. This is a guy who when he came onto the scene looked like he would be a major tournament winner but now he's gone back into the level of players below the top class. Kevin Painter has showed he's still one of the best in the world both with his win at the Players Championship finals and in the Premier League where although he finished 7th he performed admirably throughout. Painter is much the better player of the two for me now and is definitely playing the better darts and in better form. He's won six of their last 7 meetings and I'll take him to get Saturday off to a flyer with him beating Osborne again. 3pts M.Mansell to beat A.Smith 6/4 BetVictor Michael Mansell isn't playing too badly at the minute. He saw off Colin Lloyd on Friday which is no mean effort and that comes after he made the last 16 of the previous European Tour event. He averaged 91 on Friday which is competitive and if he can average that here then he could well give the Pieman a game. Smith sneaked through on Friday beating Mick Todd 6-5 but averaging below 90 and it's been a while since Smith has had a real eye catching result. I'd expect this to be a fairly close match but without a doubt the value is on the Northern Irishman who beat Dean Winstanley on his way to the last 16 in Berlin and who will be full of confidence after his win over Colin Lloyd on Friday. 5pts R.Burnett to beat S.Rand 4/5 BetVictor Richie Burnett comes into this match off the back of a remarkable 121.57 average in his win over Andy Jenkins last night and that's a clear sign he is playing well. Amazingly at one point in that match he was averaging 128 and it was only a 17 dart leg in the final leg of the match which saw his average drop to 121. That's exceptional darts by absolutely anyone's standards and while I don't expect him to produce that again there's no reason why he won't keep an average of around the 100 mark. If he does that then he should have too much for Scott Rand who has struggled a little bit since he made that breakthrough at the Players Championship finals at the end of last year. Rand has only been past the last 32 once since he turned pro at the start of the year and that's clearly not good enough for someone with his capabilities and shows a lack of both form and probably confidence. Rand hasn't played a game this week thanks to Gary Anderson pulling out so I would expect the more match sharp Burnett, who has won three of their four previous meetings and won them all 6-2, to win this and possibly win it as comfortably as his three previous wins over 'Cool Hand'.

Re: European Tour Event 3 - European Darts Open - July 6-8 Up and down afternoon. Just one for the evening. 4pts J.Hubbard to beat S.Brown 4/5 Blue Square James Hubbard is in the middle of a good little spell at the minute and if he wins this match he will go some way to qualifying for the World Matchplay later in the month so he has all the motivation he needs here. Steve Brown needs wins too but he needs a lot more than Hubbard and would probably need to win the tournament which with his form and struggles doesn't look like happening. Brown was a touch fortunate that Arron Monk didn't have his game with him yesterday but if the way Hubbard is playing at the minute is anything to go by he definitely will have. He beat Adrian Lewis in the first round of the previous European Tour event a couple of weeks ago and he beat an in form Andy Hamilton last night despite some heavy scoring by the Hammer. Hubbard is on the crest of a wave at the minute whereas Brown is in the middle of a slump so I would expect the youth world champion to win this one.

Re: European Tour Event 3 - European Darts Open - July 6-8 Sunday preview: 4pts R.Burnett to beat M.van Gerwen 5/6 Blue Square

Richie Burnett is scoring so well this weekend and although he missed a lot of doubles against Scott Rand that could have happened at the right time so that it is a wake up call and he makes sure he has brushed up on them going into this match. van Gerwen has been known to miss doubles himself and while he has some power scoring in him he does score a lot of 59’s and 57’s which won’t be good enough here. Re: European Tour Event 3 - European Darts Open - July 6-8 Two for me this afternoon. This one which I've taken at Ladbrokes at 11/10.

Sunday preview: 4pts R.Burnett to beat M.van Gerwen 5/6 Blue Square

Richie Burnett is scoring so well this weekend and although he missed a lot of doubles against Scott Rand that could have happened at the right time so that it is a wake up call and he makes sure he has brushed up on them going into this match. van Gerwen has been known to miss doubles himself and while he has some power scoring in him he does score a lot of 59’s and 57’s which won’t be good enough here. and this one. 4pts J.Hubbard to beat M.Walsh Evs Ladbrokes This is a huge match for James Hubbard. If he wins here he will be in the Matchplay later in the month but a defeat will see him agonisingly miss out. I think he can win here. The one thing he has done recently is score very well and I always feel Walsh is vulnerable to heavy scorers as he plods along at the one pace. Hubbard has come through a couple of tight matches this week and that should give him confidence if this gets tight especially as Walsh hasn't had a major test this week yet. Hubbard beat Hamilton earlier in the week and that's a decent form guide, he is in better form than Walshie coming in this week and at even money he looks a good bet to me this afternoon.

Re: European Tour Event 3 - European Darts Open - July 6-8 Both those won. Quick bet for the quarter final. Starts at 6. 4pts C.Osborne to beat M.King 5/4 William Hill I'm not sure what Colin Osborne has been having for breakfast this weekend but he's made it into the quarter finals having only lost two legs, both to Kevin Painter. Elsewhere he has beat Jim Walker and Johnny Haines 6-0 and even though they are lesser names beating anyone 6-0 these days is a really good achievement. He averaged 100 in beating Haines in the last 16 which is good darts. King has had to come through a couple of deciding leg wins this week so far and his averages are a lot less than Osborne's and given that he's been on stage a lot longer and hasn't played as well I'm not sure King should be the favourite here. At 5/4 given that Osborne has been so good this weekend he looks like the value pick to me here.
