Six Red World Championship 2-7 July

As will be the case most of the season now, as one tournament finishes another one begins immediately and this week's offering comes from Bangkok as the Six Red World Championship is played out. It's literally as it says on the tin - 6 red frames. There's a couple of rule quirks - you can't roll up and snooker behind a ball and after four straight fouls it is ball in hand. The tournament features 48 men, with them divided into groups of 6 before a knockout stage. It's on Eurosport all week so should be interesting to watch. Schedule and format can be found here: http://www.worldsnooker.com/page/NewsArticles/0,,13165~2204254,00.html

Re: Six Red World Championship 2-7 July Tournament preview: 1pt ew M.Gould to win Six Red World Championship 25/1 Paddy Power (1/4 1-4)

The first player I like this week is Martin Gould. He is in Group H which looks quite a weak group with only Graeme Dott and Marco Fu in it who are ranked in the top 50 in the world rankings. Martin Gould has shown in the past that he plays well in the different formats having won Power Snooker and performed well in the Shootout down the years. 1pt ew B.Hawkins to win Six Red World Championship 22/1 Bet365 (1/4 1-4) Barry Hawkins has an excellent record in six red snooker. In three tournaments in this format he has made two semi finals and a final and it can’t be a co-incidence. He’s another who likes the quirkier formats having won the Shootout last year and his group, with the exception of Judd Trump couldn’t be any easier if it had tried. Full preview here:

Re: Six Red World Championship 2-7 July Couple of group previews: 3pts M.Selby to win Group A Evs Boylesports

Mark Selby played well in China last week before he ran into Stuart Bingham who played really well himself. Selby has shown he can compete in this format and I think his solid all round game will still be prosperous even in a six red tournament. When he gets in he often dishes and he is very good at beating players below him in the rankings. Full preview here:

I think Ken Doherty will embrace this competition and he showed in China last week that he’s playing some pretty decent snooker. He was unlucky to go out to Stuart Bingham in a deciding frame out there but in this format where dishing up when the chance comes along and keeping things tight are the name of the game I think the Dubliner can go well. Re: Six Red World Championship 2-7 July An afternoon match preview: 3pts P.Ebdon to beat M.Williams 6/4 Skybet

Playing Ken Doherty earlier in the day will give Ebdon a clear advantage in this match for me. He will have the pace of the table known and he should be able to get straight down to work whereas it could take Williams a frame or two to get going and in a best of seven you’ve just not got that chance. Re: Six Red World Championship 2-7 July Looking forward to this week. I'm taking three outrights, these two....

Tournament preview: 1pt ew M.Gould to win Six Red World Championship 25/1 Paddy Power (1/4 1-4)

and this one.... 0.5pts ew J.Wattana to win Six Red World Championship 66/1 Bet365 (1/4 1-4) I like to have a wildcard if you like in these quirkier events and I think James Wattana fits the bill. His game has really come back over the last 12 months and considering where he started it he had a really good season last year. Consistency is still a struggle for him but when there's only six reds on the table he can be as dangerous as anyone and dishing up has always been a forte of his from a couple of reds out. Wattana is obviously at home here in Bangkok so will know the conditions and the environment and things and having been a former quarter finalist and semi finalist in this tournament we know the 6 red game is one which he both enjoys and plays well. He should come through his group given that it contains three amateurs and once he's done that the tournament is anyone's. In conditions he knows and a format which probably suits him more these days than the 15 red game I'll have a dabble at the Thai-phoon to go deep this week. Also taken one group bet which is this one....

Re: Six Red World Championship 2-7 July Tuesday early matches previews: 4pts M.Selby to beat J.Perry 4/6 ApolloBet

I can’t ignore how well Mark Selby is playing at the minute and with him defending his title this week I would expect him to place a wee bit more emphasis on playing well. He is perfect for this game because his safety game is so good and when he gets in be it with 6 reds or 15 he scores heavily and those combinations make him tough to beat. Full preview here:

http://www.punterslounge.com/selby-vs-perry-betting--mark-selby-can-see-off-the-dangerous-joe-perry-to-take-control-in-group-a 4pts T.Ford to beat R.Walden 6/5 Ladbrokes

At odds against I think Ford would have been a good bet even had Walden not had such a rushed arrival in Bangkok and plenty of snooker in the run up to the tournament. The fact that Walden has had that preparation makes Tom Ford even more of a bet for me here. It was no coincidence Walden lost his only match on Monday and to an unknown and I suspect he might struggle here too. Full preview here:

Re: Six Red World Championship 2-7 July Later match previews: 4pts S.Lee to beat S.Bingham 5/6 Skybet

Although Bingham showed no signs of tiredness in his first match it’s only inevitable that his exerts of the last fortnight will catch up with him at some point. Stephen Lee has a cracking cue action and he should be a major runner not just in this match but in this tournament. He doesn’t have to do a lot to have the white under control and more than anything that’s what this game is about. Full preview here:

http://www.punterslounge.com/lee-vs-bingham-betting--stephen-lee-can-come-past-a-naturally-tired-stuart-bingham-in-bangkok 4pts P.Suwannawat to beat J.White 6/4 Paddy Power

Winning momentum is definitely in the hands of the Thai here and with Jimmy really struggling at the minute I think at 6/4 Suwannawat looks a great bet. White is a confidence and momentum player and he hasn’t got any of that at the minute. Full preview here:

Re: Six Red World Championship 2-7 July Knockout stages begin on Thursday. Last 32 TV match previews: 4pts S.Lee to beat M.Stevens 4/5 Boylesports

This should be a good match between two confidence players who suit this format well but for me Stephen Lee just has the edge given that he’s been in such amazing form in 2012. He is clearly playing well this week and Stevens has put in the odd shocker which he won’t be able to get away with here. Full preview here:

In a normal 15 red match you would expect Murphy to come through but the 6 red format is a great leveller and undoubtedly the value lies with the Thai-phoon in this one. Full preview here:

Re: Six Red World Championship 2-7 July Tournament has reached the final stage. Final preview: 4pts S.Murphy (-1.5 frames) to beat M.Davis 9/10 Boylesports

I think it will be a good final but when Murphy is scoring as well and as consistently as he has done this week he becomes a very tough nut to crack. Mark Davis has had a fantastic tournament but he can be found wanting still ever so slightly against the game’s star players. Full preview here:
