The FA Cup of Darts is almost here. Over 170 players going at it over a weekend of matches with random draws and pub qualifiers and all sorts of things we get just once a year. Always impossible to predict this tournament but it's always a decent watch and a good betting opportunity especially with the outright market paying 4 places with Boylesports. With all the matches from round 3 onwards at least the best of 17 it's a better match betting proposition than it used to be so hopefully we can make some dosh to take with us into the Matchplay next month :hope. The Dutch legend has won this tournament on two occasions and I see no reason why he won’t go close again this week. He has been playing very well this year. He was excellent at times in the Premier League even though a load of draws meant he didn’t qualify for the semi finals and has won two floor tournaments this year. He’s also made two semi finals and three quarter finals so the Dutchman looks a must back at 16/1 here. 1.5pts ew D.Chisnall to win UK Open 25/1 Boylesports Dave Chisnall is a player I’ve been a very huge fan of ever since he burst onto the BDO scene and I’m certain there is a major tournament in him because he has scoring power like I’ve never seen before when he gets going. Sometimes missed doubles can let him down a bit but when doubles go in he’s close to unbeatable as Phil Taylor saw in the World Championship. A couple of weeks ago in Crawley he won back to back tour tournaments in a weekend so he comes here in excellent form and at 25/1 he’s an excellent bet. For a full preview click here:

Re: UK Open 7-10 June Decided to do all my outrights now. Here's the rest of them. 1pt ew J.Pipe to win UK Open 28/1 Boylesports Perhaps Taylor, Barney and Chisnall aside there isn't a more in form player in the game of darts right now than Justin Pipe. Pipe has won a plethora of tournaments on the floor in the last 18 months, much like this one, and I think the format and set up of this tournament will suit him down to the ground. His style will keep him away from the main boards in the early rounds unless he draws a plum tie so he won't have all the idiots putting him off when he is lining up crucial throws and even then when he's on the main stage people will be looking all over the arena and the crowd isn't that big anyway. We haven't really seen Pipe get the best of results on the big stage but he won the first European Tour event which was in an arena in Austria and on a stage and while the crowds out there aren't as raucous as over here it's a good preparation, especially as he beat Barneveld and Wade to win the tournament. Rest assured Pipe is a serious player these days and if his best form comes to Bolton with him they might all have to look out. 0.5pts ew R.Burnett to win UK Open 100/1 Boylesports I've always been a Richie Burnett fan and we saw at the Grand Prix that he can still play the game. Even at the World Championship we saw him at his best again when he beat Mark Webster so with the right draw and a prevailing wind there's no reason why Richie Burnett can't land this thing. He's still capable of beating anyone in the game, even in the World Cup when he beat Taylor we saw evidence of that. Burnett has hit a 9 dart finish this year on the tour and reached a semi final of a qualifying event and those results coupled with his experience on the big stage and his best game makes him a big price at 100/1 particularly when he isn't without a chance. I'll take the Prince of Wales each way here to see just how nice the draw can be and how far he'll go. 0.5pts ew M.Smith to win UK Open 150/1 Boylesports 0.5pts ew M.Smith to win UK Open 200/1 Ladbrokes (1/2 1,2) I've taken Smith in both places because this price is stupid. Anyone who has spoken to me about darts will know how highly I rate this kid and I'm certain he will win majors. I just hope it is at a decent price when I can maximise profits on him. When he's on a good day this youngster hits 180's for fun and he's already hit 9 darters on tour this year and he's won a Players Championship event. He didn't just win that tournament he beat Chisnall, Pipe and Wade in the process. This kid is a serious player who has a lot of belief in his ability and who fears nobody. Having been sponsored by Gary Anderson he's freerolling the tour this year and he's making good use of that sponsorship too. He's already in the Matchplay and you would think he'll be back at the World Championships. He will be if he wins this and if he catches fire this weekend he's more than capable of winning this thing. Hopefully the draw stays kind early doors and he can progress deep into the event. 0.5pts ew J.Cullen to win UK Open 250/1 Boylesports Joe Cullen is another youngster who I like and who fears nobody. He beat Simon Whitlock in that European Tour event in Austria so he fears nobody on the big stage. In the past we've seen him trouble the likes of Terry Jenkins on the big stage at the World Championships and the signs are he's got even better this year. He made the semi finals of the last UK Open qualifying tournament where he beat the likes of Vincent van der Voort along the way so he's through to the third round and not having to get involved in the horrible looking first two rounds where the matches are the best of seven legs. On his day he can beat anyone so if the draw is kind to him for the early stages of the event it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he's competing hard come Sunday at a big price for someone with the talent he has.

Re: UK Open 7-10 June Couple of match bets on the main boards for Thursday. Not a huge fan of betting in best of 7 leg matches but I like the prices here. Keeping stakes small until the best of 17s come along. 3pts A.Alcinas to beat M.Hylton 5/4 Bodog

Given how Hylton can start slowly I think Alcinas at 5/4 is a good bet here. Alcinas is a very heavy scorer and he checks out quite well which is another of Hylton’s weakness. Hylton scores well and if this was a longer match the 180’s would be a love bet but it isn’t, it’s a short race to 4 sprint and with that in mind I’m going to take the Spanish maestro to make paella of Hylton and book his place with the big boys in round 3 on Friday. Over the best of seven legs it is a bit of a lottery but I think Co Stompe will win this match. He’s played the better darts of the two over the last 12 months or so even if he has struggled in recent times. He’s won the last two matches between the pair which should give him a bit of confidence and belief and I expect Stompe to run out a winner here. Full preview:

Re: UK Open 7-10 June Usually a really good watch this tournament as there's usually a few massive upsets along the way. Taken a fair few outrights given the unpredictability of the tournament so best to look for the value in my eyes as Taylor and Lewis never seem to be at their best for this tournament. Like Kev has noted, best to take the outrights with Boylesports as they pay out on 4 places rather than 2. Dave Chisnall to win UK Open- 20/1 Boylesports- (1.5/10 E/W) Like Kev has said, Chisnall comes into the tournament in exceptional form and off the back of some stunning performances this year already. He has regularly hit ton plus averages with his scoring devastating at times which he needs to do as he isn't the most reliable when it comes down to doubles. When he hits them though, along with his scoring power, he is extremely hard to beat which is shown by his back to back tournament wins in Crawley a couple of weeks ago. I just feel somewhere along the line, a major trophy has his name written all over it and given his recent form, there's no reason why he can't go close here and perhaps secure his first major title at the end of it. Justin Pipe to win UK Open- 28/1 Boylesports- (1/10 E/W) Also agree with regards to Pipe and Kev has mentioned arguably the most important factor to this bet. He has been winning trophies for fun on the floor and the thing I really like about Pipe here is that his slow throwing style will keep him well away from the stage and main board which should ease the pressure he will feel as the crowd won't be as attentive towards his matches. Of course that may chance if he draws one of the bigger names, but even then he has shown recently he can handle that by beating Barney and Wade on course to his title in Austria so he really shouldn't be fearing anyone. His slow game will affect many of the quicker players who won't be able to get into a rhythm, and I just feel with that win in Austria under his belt, he's worth a shot in Bolton this week. Wes Newton to win UK Open- 33/1 Boylesports- (1/10 E/W) Another guy who I think is sort of due a good run in Bolton is Wes Newton. He lost to a couple of players he should be beating Crawley in his most recent tournaments, but before that, he actually won 2 of the UK Open qualifying events and made the quarters in Austria before James Wade narrowly beat him. Newton has been ultra consistent in the major tournaments over the past couple of years, as only twice has he failed to make the last 16, and in that time, he's managed to reach the quarter finals of the World Championship and Matchplay, whilst falling at the semis at the Players Championship last year. The UK Open really seems to be the tournament Newton likes though, as he was a losing finalist last year to James Wade and the year before he made the quarter finals as well so Newton clearly has good memories of Bolton. With a couple of qualifying wins to his name as well, I think Newton is a decent price to make the last 4 again this year and repeat his efforts of 12 months ago. Kim Huybrechts to win UK Open- 40/1 Boylesports- (1/10 E/W) The Belgian is a player I really like and honestly think is in with a decent shot of winning a major in the next couple of years or so. We've seen what he is capable of both at the World Cup and at the World Championship at Christmas where he made the quarter finals, losing to a superb Andy Hamilton in that. Since then, he's made a final of a UK Open qualifying event and numerous quarter finals, including 2 in Crawley just a couple of weeks ago so he's clearly playing well at the minute and should feel confident. His finishing on doubles is usually extremely solid which is important in these short formats, whilst when he gets going, he scores extremely heavily as well. He actually nailed a 9 darter in one of the qualifying events last month which shows his quality and with the lovely Dana by his side, I'll back him to go well over in Bolton where the shorter formats should really suit his game. Terry Jenkins to win UK Open- 50/1 Boylesports- (1/10 E/W) The Bull is one of my favourite players and there's no way I see him as a 50/1 shot to take the title in Bolton. Granted it can be argued that he's never fulfilled his potential in the majors, often a losing quarter finalist but there's no doubting his genuine quality now that he's found his love for the game again. He's actually found form just at the right time coming into Bolton, as he won a UK Open qualifying event last month, beating Huybrechts, Hamilton and Chisnall in the process, and he made the semis and the quarter finals in the two events in Crawley a couple of weeks ago so it looks as though the Bull has really started to charge at the right time. He's always a hugely dangerous player to come up against as his scoring is consistent, much like his doubles and if he can continue his recent good form, he's certainly in with a chance here I feel. Dean Winstanley to win UK Open- 50/1 Boylesports- (0.5/10 E/W) This will be Winstanley's PDC major debut along with a few others and I have a sneaky suspicion he may go pretty well now he's made the switch from the BDO. We saw what he is capable of at the Grand Slam last year where he impressed and now that he is a PDC player, he'll be desperate to impress and show what he can do. The shorter format should actually suit him massively as he won't have to hit too many doubles to win matches which is hit massive problem when he isn't able to go for D20. His scoring is extremely heavy, one of the heaviest in the games in actual fact so that should allow him to draw away from his opponent in a few legs and give him a bit of time to hit his doubles. We've seen just how well Dave Chisnall has fared this season and since his move from the BDO, Winstanley is not too dissimilar from Chizzy in darting terms and I'll back him to impress on his first PDC TV outing. James Hubbard to win UK Open- 125/1 Boylesports- (0.5/10 E/W) James Hubbard undoubtedly has a huge future ahead of him and from watching him beat Michael van Gerwen in the final of the youth championship, I don't think he is a million miles away from taking the step up to senior level now on a regular basis. In that final, he comfortably beat the Dutchman in truth, which is something many of the senior players struggle to do now which shows just how well the youngster played. He started like a house on fire with his scoring, and his finishing was solid as well and really didn't give van Gerwen a sniff. Already this year, he has beaten the likes of Colin Osborne and Mark Walsh as well as van Gerwen, and he also took Chisnall to a final leg in a qualifying event which is no easy task. He has actually reached the quarters of a UK Open qualifying event as well which shows what he can do, and with the shorter format of best of 7 legs early on, that should really suit him as in the youth events it's the same format and given the right draw, this could be the tournament where young Hubbard really makes his mark. Devon Peterson to win UK Open- 125/1 Boylesports- (0.5/10 E/W) Sooner or later, Devon Peterson will climb the rankings enormously and really be competing in the latter stages of major tournaments I feel which automatically doesn't make him as much of an outsider as this price suggests. He may be in completely rotten form given he hasn't won many matches at all this year, but his form isn't too dissimilar from what it was before the World Championship or World Cup. At Ally Pally, he wasn't too far away from beating Gary Anderson and at the World Cup, he managed to beat Richie Burnett in the best of 7 legs and but for some miscounting, his nation probably would have made the semis there. When this guy gets going, he is a really good darts player as he can hit the trebles for fun and although his finishing at times is a little suspect, with a little bit of confidence and momentum that these sorts of tournaments can produce, he could easily cause some upsets this week. If he gets past his tricky first round match, he should grow in confidence I feel so I'll back Peterson to see just how far he can take my money in Bolton.

Jamie Hughes to beat Steve Hine- 11/10 Betfred- (3/10) I took on Hughes with Blue Square earlier but the price has dropped massively since then so I'll post the best available odds on him at present which I also expect to fall. The Welshman isn't well known at all but I've been hearing he has been playing pretty well recently. He made the quarter finals in the Welsh Open against the BDO boys where he lost to Tony O'Shea but that little run should do him the world of good in terms of confidence coming into this one. This bet is slightly against Steve Hine though in truth, as the Muffin Man is in such terrible form right now. The fact that he has only won 3 matches in the past couple of months tells its own story really. At the start of the year, he fared okay in truth and even managed to beat Simon Whitlock but just at the minute, his form is horrible so I think it's worth a small punt on the Welshman here at odds against. Jamie Lewis to beat Steve Farmer- 7/4 BetVictor- (3/10) Again the price has dropped a touch since I took it earlier but not much. Jamie Lewis is still playing reguarly on the youth circuit and has done well this season and comes into Bolton with a final appearance and also a youth title in Germany last weekend beating Arron Monk there so he could hardly be coming into this one in better form. Steve Farmer is another who's in shocking form right now, and although he beat van Gerwen over in Crawley, there's really nothing else to suggest why he is such a favourite here. In the past couple of months, he has lost to players I've not even heard of on the tour which doesn't give me confidence at all with Farmer. The shorter format also isn't ideal for him, and he usually takes a little while to get into his stride and start scoring well, so given the quality of the youth players in the past year, I'll back another to record an early upset in this one. Co Stompe to beat Alan Tabern- 4/5 Blue Square- (3/10) My last couple are already ones that Kev has written up so not a great deal to add really. Stompe isn't in the best of form but did manage a recent run to the last 32 in Crawley where Chisnall beat him and he does have some decent scalps to his name this year. Alan Tabern is in horrible form though and on TV, it's been an eternity since he's done anything of note really. The Dutchman is generally just a better player in terms of quality and although it's only best of 7, I fancy him to win here. Antonio Alcinas to beat Mark Hylton- 5/4 Boylesports- (3/10) The shorter format should suit the Spaniard far more than Hylton. We all saw what the Spaniard is capable of doing at the World Championship where he really tested Hamilton and almost beat him which is a testament to him given how well Hamilton was playing at Ally Pally. His form really isn't anything to set the heart racing but neither is Mark Hylton's. The problem as Kev has spoken is Hylton not being the best of starters, and although when he gets going he can hit maximums for fun, over the best of 7 you really don't have the time to settle in. Alcinas himself isn't a bad scorer and can hit his doubles usually as well so if Hylton starts slowly here like there's every chance of him doing, the Spaniard should be able to punish him.

Re: UK Open 7-10 June I've already taken M.Smith and D.Ovens EW to win the UK Open (@ 150/1 both) and I've added one more for the third round: Kevin McDine to beat Adrian Lewis @ 11/2 (willhill and ladbrokes) because SupaMc seemed confident as ever and in good shape yesterday and I can't ever trust Lewis at those prices in the first rounds even more with this format. McDine made it to the last 16 here 2 years ago (the same year when he was beaten 0-4 by Adrian Lewis in the last 16 at the World Championship). In 2008 McDine beat Lewis 10-8 in the last 32 round of the World Matchplay and he beat him again twice 6-5 in two Player Championships in Gibraltar (2009) and Holland (2010) but lost 2-6 last time they met (last November) in the Players Championship. At these prices it's a must bet for me (1 unit as all my darts bets).

Gary Anderson should be expected to win this match quite comfortably. I have heard rumours of him knocking in nine darters in practice and for him getting the bug back for the game. If that is true then this shouldn’t be too much of a contest because the Scot will score so heavily that Dodds shouldn’t get much of a look in. Full preview here:

I think Scholten will have to play at his very best and Taylor have an off night just for the Dutchman to get close here. Taylor is so far clear of the top level players it is untrue so those who are no longer at that level are prone to struggle even more. The handicap is 5.5 legs which means Scholten will need to win more than three legs to cover it. I don’t see that happening barring an unexpected twist or two. Full preview -

I would be surprised if Klaasen plays well enough for long enough to beat Barneveld. Klaasen’s strength is his scoring but that’s Barney’s strength too and I don’t expect Barneveld to miss the sort of doubles Klaasen has the potential to miss. I think Lloyd can keep this match close. I think Wade will win but I certainly think Lloyd can take 6 legs home with him which makes the over 14.5 legs bet look a good thing. Even were Lloyd to win then as long as Wade takes 6 legs the bet comes in and it is hard to see Wade not winning 6 legs when he was averaging near on a ton in the last round. Full preview here:

Re: UK Open 7-10 June 4pts S.Rand to beat A.Smith Evs Ladbrokes Quite like Scott Rand in this match. He hasn't begun the year too well but he is a player who seems to enjoy the big stage and I think he'll go well in this event. Andy Smith is a good player but he hasn't really gone well in a major for a while and he could be in danger here if Rand plays how he can do. Rand wiped Smith out in the World Championship at Christmas when he was playing really well and if his win last night has found him some confidence and belief I think the Coventry man can go well again in this match too. 4pts R.Thornton to beat M.Webster 7/4 Skybet Mark Webster looked a bit of a shambles last night and was let off in a big way. He didn't really score all that well and for him his doubles were appalling given that doubles is an area of his game which is usually so strong. Robert Thornton has made a couple of quarter finals this year which is a decent effort considering the draws his ranking will mean he has to go through and he has a win over Simon Whitlock just a month ago which shows us that the Scot hasn't lost any of his talent. He will score well, that's almost a given, but he can miss a few doubles however if Webster carries on missing doubles, which on the big stage is a trait which has crept into his game over the last 6 months or so, then I think Thornton can beat the former Lakeside champion in this last 64 clash. 4pts D.Petersen to beat R.Baxter 6/5 William Hill Devon Petersen showed us all his talent in the World Championship and he followed that up in the World Cup too and I think he can be too good for a Ronnie Baxter who in truth has been stuttering along for a good while now. Both men won matches last night which will boost confidence but in these longer matches Petersen can really get going in the scoring part of the game and that scoring can be devastating as we saw in the World Championship where he was keeping pace with a very good Gary Anderson. Ronnie Baxter rarely has that gear in his scoring so at odds against I think Devon Petersen is a good bet here should he produce his best form on the night. 4pts M.Hylton to beat S.Kellett 7/10 Boylesports I opposed Mark Hylton last night but in truth he was fantastic and a repeat of that form should get the job done here. Hylton is a very heavy scorer as we saw to our cost last night and when the doubles click he can be a very tough nut to crack as he showed when he played Phil Taylor in Blackpool. I've never really been a huge Stuart Kellett fan. Even when he was enjoying life and being successful on the BDO circuit I always thought he was a touch overrated and I certainly don't see him in the class of the top PDC players. Hylton isn't a top player yet but he will get there because he is a very good player who is dedicated. If he plays like he did last night I think he'll score too heavily for Kellett who isn't the most sure fire on his doubles anyway. 3pts M.Barilli to beat B.Dolan 23/10 Boylesports Mark Barilli is another off the BDO circuit but he has a nice enough draw here I think. Barilli came through three matches last night which is no mean effort and he takes on a Brendan Dolan who I never really rate and who I think is very overrated on his run in Ireland at the end of last year. We must remember that was a different format, he was at home and Wade aside his draw to that final was pretty simple. To his credit he has been to a tour event final in 2012 which takes some doing but I always think he's better in those tournaments and I never think he plays well as a favourite. We saw that when he was rubbish against Kim Huybrechts in the World Championship. He only averaged just over 80 on that occasion and if he plays similarly tonight, and his Grand Slam results go even further to suggest his Grand Slam run was a one off, then Barilli, with winning momentum behind him would have every chance at a decent enough price.

Re: UK Open 7-10 June Four for this afternoon. 4pts K.Huybrechts (-1.5 legs) to beat V.van der Voort 4/5 Skybet I like Huybrechts in this match. I think he's close to the real deal and I expect him to see off a struggling Vincent without too much fuss in this match. Van der Voort has been struggling for fitness and health in recent months and while I'm hearing he is slowly getting back to normality he isn't there yet and he will need to be if he is to beat Huybrechts. Van der Voort struggled past a qualifier in the last 64 last night which shows his form still isn't there while Huybrechts, who is having an excellent season so far, eased into this round. Van der Voort can be a bit erratic at the best of times and the steadier and classier Belgian can win this continental clash and win it no worse than 9-7. 4pts D.Ovens to beat B.Dolan 5/6 Ladbrokes Somehow Brendan Dolan denied me last night but I don't see how he will do so again. Denis Ovens seems to love this tournament for whatever reason having made the semi final of it for the last two seasons. Dolan came back from 7-1 down in the last round but the fact he was 7-1 down in the first place gives me the confidence and belief to take Denis Ovens who cruised into this stage of the tournament and having come through a couple of matches on the opening night is fully match fit for this game. I won't elaborate on what I said about Dolan last night. It all still stands, I just trust that when Ovens gets in front in this match he won't surrender so easily. 4pts M.Hylton (-1.5 legs) to beat J.Caven 10/11 Skybet Mark Hylton was good to me last night and I'll back him to be so again this afternoon against another player who I don't really rate on the big stage. Jamie Caven goes well on the floor but when it comes to performing in the major tournaments he seems to go missing. He won last night to be fair to him but Alan Tabern's lack of form is so pronounced that even that was only a token win if you like. Mark Hylton thrashed Antonio Alcinas in the first round and got ahead against Stuart Kellett last night and saw it home. He scores very heavily in matches of this length and like Ovens he seems to enjoy himself in Bolton. Jamie Caven's scoring can be patchy at times and he isn't the crispest on his doubles either so I'll take Hylton to win this and win this no worse than 9-7. 4pts D.Winstanley to beat T.Jenkins 11/10 Ladbrokes This match isn't a lot more than a pick em match in my eyes but Dean Winstanley certainly has the game to win it. Terry Jenkins will be a tough nut to crack and this should be one of the ties of the round but Winstanley has begun life on the PDC tour well and with his scoring power I think he can put enough pressure on Jenkins to ensure we get a few missed doubles out of the Bull which Winstanley can take advantage of. There isn't many weaknesses in Winstanley's game. His main one used to be that he couldn't count but even when that was the case he knew the way to leave tops which he never missed. His all round counting is a lot better these days and Winstanley's scoring and finishing is good enough and his form strong enough that I think he can land a punt here at odds against when if I was pricing this up I couldn't split the two.

Have taken 3 on for this afternoon and I'll do some short write-ups as the internet I'm using atm is slow as anything. Kim Huybrechts (-1.5 legs) to beat Vincent van der Voort- 4/5 Blue Square- (4/10) Already backed the Belgian on the outright and I see no reason why not to here with such a small handicap. He beat Peter Hudson comfortably enough last night which should ease him into the competition as the atmopshere of the Open takes a little getting used to but he came through well. He seems to really enjoy playing in the majors does the Belgian and he knows this is a pretty decent draw to take him into the last 16 so he should be fully up for this. Van der Voort didn't win as comfortably last night and I really don't think this short format suits him at all. With it being a sprint to the finish line, if he doesn't get going early on, he really struggles. He is very much a momentum player like most of the Dutch players and if Huybrechts can get ahead early, I'm not too confident over the Dutchman's chasing ability. Huybrechts has the scoring to match his opponent and is more solid on the double so I'll back him to win no worse than 9-7 here. Denis Ovens to beat Brendan Dolan- 4/5 William Hill- (3/10) Ovens should be a bigger favourite here in my eyes. Dolan was extremely fortunate not to lose last night as he had to overcome a huge deficit to squeeze through and you feel a more experienced player would have finished him off. Ovens has fond memories of Bolton in the past couple of years and no doubt he'll be looking to repeat those efforts for a third year in a row. He won all of his matches well on the opening night and then easily last night as well so he should be full of confidence. Dolan is still looked to be a better player than he actually is after that effort in Ireland where he made the final against Taylor, but in truth he hasn't done a lot since then. Ovens is ultra consistent on the scoring and doubles without being exceptional, but his consistency should be enough to beat Dolan here in my eyes. Arron Monk to beat Paul Nicholson- 13/8 William Hill- (2.5/10) Think the 'Aussie' is primed for an upset here but it wouldn't actually be too much of a surprise if Monk won this really. Nicholson was far from convincing in his opening couple of matches and he didn't play especially well last night where he ran out a 9-7 winner. He's already spoken about how he has a shoulder problem, which could be complete rubbish to be completely honest but from what I've seen, he's missing too many doubles to really make a claim for the trophy in Bolton. Arron Monk is playing very well at the minute, and looks to be playing better and better every time I see him play on TV. He's been extremely succcessful on the youth circuit, and already has some big scalps to his name on the senior tour. He came through against Kevin Painter last night which is a super result given the way Painter has been playing over the past year or so and I fancy him to add another big name to his UK Open run in Nicholson this afternoon.

Huybrechts in 6-12 months time really will be a fantastic player but Wes Newton is in a good place right now. He was very impressive in his win over Adrian Lewis this afternoon and he was relentless throughout that match with his quality, especially his finishing which I've always thought was a slight achilles heel for him. Huybrechts didn't really score like he can this afternoon and his finishing got him out of trouble but if he is to live with Newton tonight he will have to score a lot better and maintain the intensity in his scoring which really tailed off this afternoon. As good as Huybrechts will be, Newton is just a bit more progressed at the minute and I think he will win this no worse than 9-7 this evening.

Dave Chisnall (Most 180's) vs Simon Whitlock- 6/5 Boylesports- (3/10) Expect to see a fair few maximums in this one but it's Chizzy who I think is decent value to hit more. This year on the floor, he has been absolutely superb and has really looked to back up that win against Taylor at the World Championship. His finishing is more solid now, whilst his scoring is as devastating as anyone in the game right now. He can hit the treble with absolute ease and doesn't cover a great deal which helps for this bet. Whitlock as we know is an extremely heavy scorer as well, but there's questions over how well he plays when chasing matches. We saw evidence of this in the Premier League so if Chisnall can get himself into this one early on and take the lead, that should really give him confidence and allow him to score as heavy as we know he can do. Although Whitlock's finishing is better, Chisnall can dominate the scoring here I reckon and at odds against, I think he's decent value. Dennis Priestley to beat Robert Thornton- 13/8 Boylesports- (3/10) I quite like the veteran in this one. Think Thornton is being overrated a touch from his win over Anderson earlier but as we all know, the Scot can fire hot and cold at the minute so I'm not reading too much into that one. Priestley managed to just about hold himself together and beat the Pie Man earlier on which was good to see and already this season, has made a quarter and a semi in the UK Open qualifying events. What I like about him here is his slow style. A bit like Justin Pipe, it doesn't allow your opponent to settle into any sort of momentum which is what Thornton needs really to score heavily which is his strength. Priestley will slow it right now and have a ton of support with him tonight, and given Thornton will be waiting around just to throw his next 3 darts, that could well put him off so I'll take a punt on Priestley here.

Re: UK Open 7-10 June Shame Priestley couldn't take advantage of that 5-1 lead but not going to complain about comebacks given what Ovens and Jenkins have done in matches so far. That Newton-Huybrechts match was the best of the tournament IMO. No doubt that the Belgian will win a major at some point. The outright is settled as a loser for the Belgian though but Chisnall won the 180s battle, which leaves me on -7.05 for the tournament. The only good thing at the minute is that Newton has a good draw against Thornton, and from what I've seen of Chisnall, he could well beat Barney and meet Newton in the semis which would guarantee places for both. Was hoping that Jenkins would get either Ovens or Caven tbh as it's unlikely he'll beat Taylor but one can always hope.

Re: UK Open 7-10 June Been on the wrong end of some serious rubbish in the match bets this week. Had losses from 7-1 up and missed doubles galore and I've lost an outright from 5-1 up thanks to a 160 checkout in the deciding leg to deny me a QF against Denis Ovens of all people for what would've been a monster payout. Somehow though I'm guaranteed a payout on the outright market and hopefully that can be a full payout to get rid of some of the ridiculous bad fortune losses I've had so far.

I think this could be a match too far for Thornton. Not for anything against him but Newton looks good to me at the minute and I think he’ll just put too much pressure on Thornton who is never totally reliable when the heat is on. Thornton’s had a great run and he’ll be dangerous because he’s almost freerolling but Newton is a serious player now and he can prove that by winning this and winning it no worse than 10-7. One thing I like about Terry Jenkins is he is never afraid of Phil Taylor and he often plays well against him. Although Jenkins has only won 2 of their 29 meetings they were both on the big stage in the World Matchplay and the Premier League so Jenkins knows he can beat him on the big stage. Jenkins came into the tournament in good form and with their last two TV matches away from the Premier League both going to a deciding leg there’s enough to suggest Jenkins can keep this close. Re: UK Open 7-10 June One massive day of darts today then along with the French Open final. What a day of sport we have, not to forget the Euros as well! Hopefully my 3 outrights can make it through and book their place in the semis which would return some money but I'm having a few match bets as well. Wes Newton (-2.5) legs to beat Robert Thornton- Evens Boylesports- (4/10) I'm already on Newton each way but I can't ignore the price given here. He was perhaps a bit fortunate that Huybrechts missed a few doubles to win the match yesterday, but you have to give credit to Newton. He stuck and fought the Belgian all the way even though for the first 13/14 legs, Huybrechts wasn't missing a double and took out numerous ton plus finishes. That impressed me a lot and it looks as though Newton has improved his mental strength as at times in the past, he could have let that kind if stuff get to him and let his head drop but at no point yesterday did he do that. He scored well throughout yesterday, both against Lewis and Huybrechts and barring the final leg last night, his finishing has also been solid as well. Robert Thornton has done really well do make the quarters but I think that will be where his run ends. Beating Anderson is a good scalp but being 5-1 down to Priestley doesn't give me a lot of confidence tbh, and although he did well to fight back and win the final 8 legs, he can't afford such a slow start against Newton because if he does, he isn't coming back. Newton made the final here 12 months ago and he looks hungry again to try and go one step better. They will be on the main stage which should suit Newton a bit more as he's more used to it and if Newton keeps up his scoring which counteracts Thornton's heavy numbers, I think he'll win with a bit to spare in this one. Dave Chisnall (Most 180's) vs Raymond van Barneveld- 4/5 Bet365- (4/10) I backed Chizzy in this market yesterday against Whitlock and I see no reason not to do so again. He absolutely battered the treble yesterday did Chisnall, almost reaching double figures with the maximums and ran out a comfortable winner. The worry would be can he repeat that form and keep it going, but judging by the fact he won back to back tournaments in Crawley over a weekend a couple of weeks ago, suggests to me that he can. Barney is extremely fortunate to still be in this one as Peter Wright had 6 darts from 138 and bust his score which is criminal in truth. The Dutchman did well to step in and take advantage but he was helped massively there and I'm not so sure if he'll be able to keep up with Chisnall's scoring. Barney is a heavy scorer as well, hitting 180's for fun in the Premier League, but a little like Whitlock really, if Chisnall can get stuck in early like he did yesterday, he'll go from strength to strength. This guy really doesn't fear anyone, and why should he if he plays like he has been doing and although I secretly fancy Chisnall to beat Barney, I'll put the money on him outscoring the Dutchman on the maximums. Phil Taylor vs Terry Jenkins- Over 14.5 legs- 8/11 BetVictor- (3/10) I'm also on Jenkins with the outright and although I'm not too confident of his chances of beating Taylor, I see no real reason why he can't remain solid and take 5 legs minimum here. He's beaten Taylor on TV in the past twice which should give him confidence and recently he's been able to match Taylor pretty much all the way and keep things extremely close. The Bull actually did extremely well to stick with van Gerwen yesterday and pull through as that was a nightmare draw for Terry, given how van Gerwen can roll off a couple of legs in no time at all. He did come through well though and scored well, whilst his finishing was impressive as usual, and he'll need to keep that finishing level up to stay with Taylor here who averaged a not so shabby 110 against Ronnie Baxter yesterday. As I've said though, Jenkins knows he has beaten Taylor, and he definitely knows if he plays well, he does have a chance here. I'm not convinced he'll be able to really push for the victory here, but 5 legs for him to win looks pretty appealing for me to take and that's just what I'm doing.
