Re: WC2014 Qualifiers Friday 8th June to Wednesday 16th June 2012 USA (28) v Antigua & Barbuda (105) (Fifa Rankings in brackets) Total mismatch here between the USA and Antigua. Antigua qualified for the third round group stage thanks to winning a group which included Haiti (71), US Virgin Islands (182) and Curacao (160). I'm not a big fan of the FIFA rankings but they hardly look as though they had their work cut out for them. I believe the CONCACAF rankings are inflated due to the large amount of matches some teams play outside of recognised FIFA International dates, so I'd possibly rate some of theses teams slightly lower. Anyway, the qualification format has changed this time around. Antigua never usually got to this stage as they'd been knocked out in the first or second round. The qualification stage this year has been quite good to them as they never had one of the 'major' Central American or Caribbean nations in their group (El Salvador, Trinidad, Panama, Canada or Guatemala). If they had, I'm not sure they'd have qualified. Antigua have never played against the USA as they've never qualified for the same competitions, but their recent results, especially away against the better CONCACAF nations aren't encouraging - 0-4 in Cuba and 1-8 in Guatemala. Cuba and Guatemala are hardly up there with the USA in terms of quality. The USA are at full strength and know that anything less than a comprehensive victory would be viewed unfavourably at home. The last time they played a team at home of similar strength to Antigua was when they beat Barbados 8-0. I'd expect a similar result today. USA -4 (AH) @ 2.375 (Bet365) - 3 points USA -5 (AH) @ 4.15 (Bet365) - 2 points

Re: WC2014 Qualifiers Friday 8th June to Wednesday 16th June 2012 Same goes for Mexico (19) against Guyana (104). It would be a massive surprise if the Mexicans didn't secure an easy victory at the Azteca. They scraped through a group which involved Barbados (178), Bermuda (109) and and understrength Trinidad (82). Mexico -4 (AH) @ 1.975 (Bet365) - 3 points Mexico -5 (AH) @ 3.2 (Bet365) - 2 points

Not quite as convinced it will be a big enough win to make those handicap bets worthwhile. So much depends on how effective Antigua are at closing down space, how open they leave their defence after they go behind and how motivated the USA are to push on and score a lot of goals. At the moment, I could see it being anywhere between 2-0 and 7-0. I'm going to try to watch the game in-play.

Result: USA 3 Antigua 1 I saw quite a lot of this game. USA were certainly a class above Antigua and when they took an early lead after a corner when the Antigua keeper fumbled the ball, it looked as though a thrashing was on the cards. USA pressed throughout the first half, poor finishing and a packed Antigua defence preventing further goals until they got a penalty just before half time. The pressure tailed off a bit in the second half, and Antigua got a goal back with a good solo goal on the break. Stung into action, USA scored again a few minutes later. Antigua did most of the attacking for the last 10 minutes, forcing a few corners, and USA seemed happy to protect their 3-1 lead. A well deserved win for USA.

Re: WC2014 Qualifiers Friday 8th June to Wednesday 16th June 2012 South America WC Qualifier Ecuador v Colombia Sunday 22.00 Ecuador in 6th place play Colombia in 5th. With 4 places and a playoff place for 5th, both sides will be hopeful of finishing in the top 5 at the moment. http://uk.soccerway.com/international/south-america/wc-qualifying-south-america/2014-brazil/1st-round/ I have seen Ecuador quite a lot and they have a very fast direct style, which tends to result in a lot of corners. As far as I know Colombia also get quite a few corners, although not as many as Ecuador. I think both sides will pobably go for the win here, particularly Ecuador (as they are behind), so a high number of corners is likely. My guess is there will be between 9 and 15 corners, so Bet365's line of 10.5 is worth taking - Asian Corners Over 10.5 1.95 Bet 365 Strength (confidence I have in the value of the bet): 7/10

Final Score: Ecuador 1 Colombia 0 Corner Count: 6-2 Total corners: 8 Bet Lost -7 units I saw most of the game. A very disappointing game littered with stoppages was dominated by Ecuador who were deserved winners. Ecuador were poor but Colombia much poorer. Both sides had strong physical defences and continually shot from miles out, the ball sailing high or wide. Ecuador scored from a header after a free kick early in the second half. The physical strength and speed of the defences out-weighed pace and invention in attack and this resulted in a low corner count against my expectations. In Ecuador's previous game away to Argentina, despite losing the game, Ecuador attacked relentessly, outpacing Argentina on the flanks and racking up a lot of corners (at least 11 from memory). Here, neither attack really got going, and neither was able to build up any momentum and this seemed to reduced the chance of corners for either side. There was relative value on Ecuador corners (they won more corners before and after they scored) but not on total corners.

Re: WC2014 Qualifiers Friday 8th June to Wednesday 16th June 2012 Australia Vs Japan Australia were woeful against Oman away.Clearly they were set up to not lose the game.Think Australia will set up the same way today & try to stifle the jap's.Plenty of experience in the aussie line up to get a result but they will be wary as the japs are in great form after hammering Jordan 6-0.Home experience will be important.Hopefuly Australia play with a recognised striker today that is able to link up other players. They lacked this in oman & invited the oman team to attack them. There are also doubts over the fitness of Yasuyuki Konno & Maya Yoshida a casualty from the win over Jordan after damaging his left knee during the game. This might leave japan with an absolutely new look centrel defensive pairing. So im hoping australia play kennedy & exploit this.Just gonna have a few bets today.Think australia will be tight & try to nick a goal from set pieces Under 2 @ 2.00 small stake Australia Handicap 0 @ 1.95 small stake Just to keep the game interesting.
