Re: England > Midweek > Non-league April 16-18 Wealdstone away at Tooting & Mitcham United (21/20 VCBet) Too big a price for me. Wealdstone have a chance of the playoffs and will be putting plenty into this one, and though it's fair to say they are not as impressive away as they might be, and in a couple of recent showings they have looked a bit tired, man for man they are superior to a Tooting outfit who have been well short of Ryman Prem standard this season, and whose draw yesterday with Margate prevented their run of successive defeats stretching to double figures. Wealdstone looked like a top-five side in defeating Hornchurch yesterday. Buxton at home to Kendal Town (19/20 VCBet) Though neither side has much to play for now, the momentum is clearly with the home side - seven wins out of eight and nine out of 11 for Buxton. Kendal, meanwhile, have been shipping too many goals and have only one win and seven defeats in the last eight, with 24 conceded. They have impressive spells, though, and in theory they have a decent squad despite the budget cut earlier in the season, but I'm taking Buxton's recent rise from the relegation zone to keep them keen in this one.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league April 16-18 Bradford Park Avenue away at Northwich Victoria (15/8 VCBet) A risky play, given that BPA don't always fulfil their potential away from home and they have been shuffling the pack with injuries. But they were in decent enough form against Frickley and I can see them exploiting a difficult situation for the Vics players, who face the threat of missing out on the play-offs altogether (and worse) after a catalogue of off-the-field irregularities. The players - who had the news confirmed after Friday's home defeat to Hednesford - have been commendably upbeat since then, claiming they'll still put on a show for the fans (however many make it to Nantwich, where this home game is being played). The price is about right for a 'normal' match played between play-off contenders - Vics whould be favourites. But given the circumstances (which are subject to appeal), there's a reasonable chance it will affect the Vics' players adversely, provided Avenue can get through the first up-and-at-'em half an hour from the home side. I would make BPA 11/8 and therefore the price is a bit of value.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league April 16-18 Conference South Havant & Waterlooville v Basingstoke 19.45 Monday 16th April 19th v 7th in the Conference South. Basingstoke 7th, 5 points off the playoffs with two games in hand. Havant 2 points above the relegation zone with 3 games to go. Basingstoke in better form. Wondering if Basingstoke are possible value here at 2.45? Should their odds be lower considering their better form and much higher league position?

It's a fascinating match, Louis and I can make a case for all three results. Havant have been rather better than their league position suggests, though they had a real stinker on Saturday. They are a good price but I can't really back them with any confidence, although they can call on the explosive talent of Christian Nanetti (who managed to draw two pens and a red card from the opposition in the last three). Basingstoke have been performing reasonably well, and are just the sort of organised side that a sometimes clunky Havant have struggled against this season, and yet I have my doubts about their ability to kill off a game. But given that they carry a bit more momentum into this match I can't really put you off at that price if you really fancy it. My instinct is probably to go with a draw, although I won't be betting on the match.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league April 16-18 I've been trying hard to find some value for tomorrow and odds of 9.0 (8/1) about Ebbsfleet at Luton are just mad! I was thinking of backing Ebbsfleet at some sort of handicap but then I thought that apart from good odds there's not much to make a case for the Kent club... In the end I've decided to back Both Teams to Score @ 1.95 with William Hill. Luton actually have the lowest number of goals conceded at home this season- just 15 - but notably a third of these 15 goals came in last three matches. They will be under huge pressure to get a result but I definitely don't expect them to sit back and defend - all the Hatters want is 3 points and theywill be up at the Fleet's throat from the beginning - which may leave them vulnerabe at the back. This is what happened in their last game against Hayes which ended 4-2. Ebsfleet have now secured Conference Premier football for the next season but their manager Daish said that they won't take the foot off the accelerator. And indeed I think they will turn up at Kenilworth Road knowing that all the pressure is on the rivals, they should play just for the fun of it and I think they can find the back of the net like they did in 9 out of their last 10 away matches. Besides, they are one of just three bottom half teams who scored 30+ goals in away matches - the other two being Hayes and Newport. And finally - both teams scored in all of the three matches played between the two sides so far.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league April 16-18 Good call on Basingstoke, MPlouis - hope you were on. A good win for Basingstoke as they were down for ten for half the match - Ross Adams sent off for a tackle on Nanetti. Havant have huge games against Farnborough and Staines to come, and I think it's Farnborough of those outside the dropzone who are in most trouble.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league April 16-18 I really think the 21/20 on Luton HT/Luton FT is a good thing tonight. We're in must win territory now but we have led at half time in 7 of our last 8 at home and the only one we didn't lead at HT in we scored early into the second half. Traditionally we are fast out of the blocks at home and that was certainly the case even under Brabin when we could've been out of sight in his last match by half time before fading badly in the second half. That was a trend of the last month of Brabin's reign. Whether it was mindset or fitness or a combination of the two I'm not sure but one thing I do know is I've seen enough in Buckle's reign to suggest we are going to be able to play for the whole 90 minutes. Saturday was pleasing in that regard because we went up a big slope in the second half and withstood a massive aerial bombardment and still had a golden chance to win the match with the last header of the game. Obviously the thing we have to be careful of is not looking ahead to what promises to be a massive game on Saturday but in his press conference before the game Buckle was adamant we've only worked on this game. In all honesty there wasn't a lot wrong with us towards the end of Brabin's reign but for a lack of confidence and inability to score a second goal but Buckle has given the right players the belief in themselves that they needed and I would expect us to win quite comfortably tonight certainly in the performance if not the scoreline. I take on board what was written about us conceding goals earlier in the thread but it must be said that our last 7 goals against us have all come from set pieces so it isn't like we are conceding millions from open play. I would expect us to tighten up in that area now that Buckle has had over a week with the players and he's been training them twice a day so I expect everything we need to be in place to be winning this at half time and at full time and I'm hoping come 9.45 tonight the 21/20 with Stan James looks a bit of a gift.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league April 16-18 I dont like agreeing with Kev :p and I wont be having a bet myself, but I do think he could be on to a winner. Ebbsfleet are capable as they proved when they drew the reverse fixture 2-2 earlier in the season, a game I was at. The problem for them though is they tend to struggle against the betteer teams in the league and their last 6 games have backed this up. Its also worth saying that Alfreton are basically a top 6 side at the moment and I would ignore their league position so going up there and getting a point was a decent effort. Luton shouldnt have to many problems tonight and if they do then its goodbye play-offs.

They won at Braintree, Newport and Gateshead, drew at Stockport, Kidderminster, Barrow. But five of those games were in 2011...in 2012 they've lost 3-2 at York, 6-2 at Fleetwood, 1-0 at Mansfield and 3-2 at Forest Green (the win was 3-2 at Gatehead). Luton have had 8 overs, 13 unders as a big favorite (meaning where the dog is at 4.00 or better), 3 overs and 6 unders in 2012. In their games against dogs of better than 9.0 (my book currently has Ebbsfleet at 10.8), these are Luton's results: Telford 1-1 (@ 9.07) Lincoln 1-0 (@ 9.16) Stockport 1-0 (@ 11.19) Kettering 5-0 (@ 11.54) Bath 2-0 (@ 13.77) They have not blown anyone out except Kettering when such a huge favorite.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league April 16-18 Im listening to the Luton game and they have battered Ebbsfleet and luckily for Kev they have scored with pretty much the last kick of the first half. Also sounds like Ebbsfleet should be down to 10.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league April 16-18 Well done to Ships I did his Buxton and Wealdstone in a double which keeps me ticking over. Tooting played with forward in goal for the whole game and were truely shocking all over the pitch from the sounds of it. Well done Kev who just about collected with his bet although fully deserved to from what I heard.

Luton 3 Ebbsfleet 0 - bet lost :( Judging by the BBC live text it sounded like a pretty comfortable victory for the hosts with Ebbsfleet not threatening their keeper too much.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league April 16-18 As I said above I listened to the first half on the radio and it was pretty much one way traffic. Saturday we will truely see if Luton have turned the corner or not but its certainly looking more promising than it did.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league April 16-18 Cheers Addpea. It's nice to be able to contribute something to these excellent threads as I don't like to provide bets on Luton unless I'm 100% confident which it's been impossible to be of late. A little bit fortunate to collect on the HT/FT in terms of when the goal came but really that first half was us against their goalkeeper. I've never seen a man be booked for a professional foul before (surely a red is the correct punishment?) and we only get a corner?! Surely if it is a professional foul it is a penalty not a corner?! Anyway all is well that ends well and onto Saturday and an absolutely huge game. Like Addpea says we'll know where we are at come 5pm Saturday but in terms of confidence, belief and workrate this is an awful lot better :ok.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league April 16-18 Kev I thought it was a penalty once the commentators had said the ref had seen the tug on Fleetwood's shirt so was very confused as to why it was a corner. They could not believe it wasnt a red card either and said you would not see a more blatent red card. Just seems like a very odd chain of events from the ref. Luckily for you it didnt matter to the result. Now Fleetwood has started scoring, seems like Buckle is playing him in the right position, I am beginning to think you might have a chance in the play-offs.

Had Fleetwood gone down it would've been a penalty and a sending off I'm sure of that. It raises the question they were talking about on MNF on Monday night about should you have to go down to get a penalty. Tonight's incident suggests you do. As for our playoff chances well I'm not getting carried away just yet. We've won two home games I would have expected us to win even if Daffy Duck was in charge let alone Brabin or Buckle. The way we battled and fought at Alfreton as I mentioned in the Luton thread was encouraging especially in comparison to the shambles at Braintree, a similar side, 7 days before. I like the purpose the team has under Buckle, I like how we are on the front foot, how we work from the front and more importantly how he has installed a belief and a confidence into the likes of Fleetwood, McAllister, Willmott and even players like Osano. Signs are starting to bode well but let's get Saturday out of the way first before we speculate on what could happen. One thing I will say is we have 3 perfect games now to warm up for the playoffs with. All tough games. All with their own pressures. That could really help us in the long run.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league April 16-18 Again thats what the commentators were saying if he had of gone down it would have been a penalty and a red card, but how can he give a yellow card and a corner, that makes no sense although of course I havent seen it only heard it. The one thing you in your favour is the fact that the team seems a lot more confident and that is always a huge factor for me. Obviously its still all to play for, but I gave no chance before and if you get into the play-offs you will have to be in form to do so, which means you have to be considered.

Fleetwood is played through, as he gets into the area he is pulled back from behind but he still gets to the ball and lifts it over the keeper who had come out to meet him. He ran round the keeper and as he was about to tap in the defender who pulled him back slid in and knocked it out for a corner. So he basically denied the goal twice and still only got booked :lol. Later in the match he was penalised for a blatant hand ball as Gray ran through but no booking there and just to try his hardest to be sent off he hoofed the ball away in the last 10 minutes and still stayed on the field :loon. As for the playoffs, I agree but let's get there first ;).

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league April 16-18 Decent enough return on a quiet session for me - BPA failed in a close game, while there were wins for Buxton and Wealdstone. Forward Charlie Stimson did indeed start in goal for Tooting. He clearly fancies the job as earlier in the season I saw him take over after a red for the keeper. He had a tidy half an hour, as I remember. Great call by Kevshat on Luton HT/FT.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league April 16-18 Whitby Town are struggling a wee bit to make sure they can get a full-strength side out tonight for the hastily rearranged match with Matlock as players who were due to work today have to get another early finish in to make the bus to Matlock. As things stand, there is a chance that the game will be off again, which creates another problem - Whitby's season ends at Buxton on Saturday and they face playing the Matlock game in either tomorrow night or even Saturday morning. If it goes ahead tonight it's a game Whitby must get something from, but they haven't been in the greatest nick, despite a magnificent run through the winter to get out of the relegation zone. Matlock, fresh from a win over FCUM, have little play for but then they didn't on Saturday and they put in a good effort. It's team news dependent, but Matlock are a reasonable shout tonight as things stand.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league April 16-18 The Matlock/Whitby game is on tonight (so far) and it looks like a strong Whitby side that are travelling. They'll also be pretty fired up by the circumstances. Matlock were certainly overpriced earlier in the week but now, at 6/5, they are about right.

Re: England > Midweek > Non-league April 16-18 Matlock/Whitby not happening until 8pm - traffic, not the rain. Andy Appleby is definitely missing from Saturday's squad for Whitby - he'll be a loss up front, but they've cover. Ash Lyth, who has been a bit part player of late, is also missing. There seems to be some doubt about whether keeper Nick Liversedge is going to make it - but I'm guessing the experienced David Campbell can fill that hole.
