Next Luton Town manager ?

Recommended Posts

Sky bet are offering this bet. Massive favourite is Paul Buckle @ 11/10 and NLP ran a story last weekend that he would suit the Luton's board. His experience includes taking Torquay to the Football League. Anyone think it's worth a punt?

Re: Next Luton Town manager ? I believe Skybet's odds are for to be in charge at the first game of next season whereas Stan James are offering a market on just the next manager. If you are playing its worth considering that they may well make a change should they not go up this season. They have had 50 applicants and they were interviewing someone last night.

Re: Next Luton Town manager ? Thanks Addpea, I just noticed that when I was posting the odds from Sky. Didn't know about Stan James market and am on my phone right now which is quite inconvenient. Would you be that kind to post SJ's odds in this thread please?

Re: Next Luton Town manager ? My attempt didnt really work as you can see and I cant lose the boxes now. Bet Victor are also betting on the market and have Buckle at evens and he is 8/11 with Stan James. Martin Allen is 4s with both but he has ruled himself out from what I heard. Everyone else is 12s or bigger.

Re: Next Luton Town manager ? Thanks again. 8/11 is too low and of course I see the difference between the next manager and the manager to be in charge in 12-13... The question is are Luton board as fickle as Abramovich and would they really change the manager again in the summer?. Probably no bet then - Sky Bet offer have too many variables, SJ has too low odds and I'm banned by BV.

Re: Next Luton Town manager ? Bloody hell. This club seem to be more of a joke than I thought. Their Director, Gary Sweet about the appointment of the new manager: "We're effectively looking for two people. One person to get as many points as needed from the next seven games and to win three [play-off] games. "It may be that we require a different person, whether in League Two or the Conference, to take us forward. "It could be that that person is the same person. But we are looking at it in that frame of mind. "I think if there is an obvious candidate we will have found him by the end of the week. "If it goes beyond that then we're looking for somebody for the long-term who can do a job this season too." Source: BBC

Yep he was on the non-league show on Monday and said all that. They have interviewed 2 yesterday, 3 today and 3 tomorrow. No names have been mentioned so I think its an impossible market to play.

I'd be careful with what you hear. I notice she didn't give away how/where she heard Allen had ruled himself out ;). As for Buckle it's quite funny that Stuart Hammonds was on twitter on Saturday night saying how he'd spoken to Gary Sweet about the candidates then begins his 'NLP exclusive' with Buckle is favourite because we wanted him 2 years ago :lol.

There's no joke in it whatsoever. There are two jobs on offer here. The first is getting us out of this league and the chances are that person will be someone who knows this league inside out and how to get out of it. Someone like a Buckle although it won't be him. The second job once we are out of this league is getting us back into League One but then the overall picture at the club - re-establishing our youth setup, leading us into a new ground while at the same time having the knowhow to progress the club further up the leagues. The infrastructure is all in place to get back to where we were prior to the ownership issues and fallout from that but that's another job once we get out of this league. I can't remember the last 'Football League expert' who got a Conference side out of the Conference and that says something. If the two jobs can be filled by the same person happy days. If not then the person coming in to get the first job done will know the score so no issue.

One person has the job until the end of the season if he wants it and if he accepts he will be in place before Wednesday is out. Unless we are conducting interviews on pointless trips up the M1 we are unlikely to have conducted 3 interviews today even if that was the case but even more so when we know our man already. As for the market itself, it's a no bet market until the end of the week at least because it is the next permanent manager so nobody will be paid out if someone gets it until the end of the season. If we get into next week and we haven't filled it then it's a market to bet on because whoever gets the job will have it for next season.

Re: Next Luton Town manager ? It sounded like she had spoken to Allen herself but then from what you are saying it seems like its him who has been offered the job. I can only imagine that she tweeted info given to her by the club, probably Sweet, so if they want to lie to her thats up to them isnt it.

Re: Next Luton Town manager ? Kev, I know Hammonds spoke to Sweet on Saturday as he did it from Cambridge. I know what you mean about "FL experts" getting a team up from BSP but, as it becomes more and more like League 3 it is more and more likely that some League knowledge will help, but only if they are a decent manager. I also know what Maliniok is on about as the way Sweet is talking it is almost as if he is saying, "Look, someone get us out of here and then we will get rid of you and appoint another person to take us further". Surely, even if that is the plan, you sure as hell don't say that?

I never said he didn't speak to him but why having spoken to him would you then run an article basing it on because he was top of the list 2 years ago. That seemed strange but I'm not a journalist. I do understand though that Buckle hasn't been mentioned or interviewed and the link is purely because his family are local and he's meant to be a Luton fan. We went down that route with Blackwell though and look how that turned out so that might go against Buckle were he to be in the plans after all. Psychology is different in this league though isn't it? Winning this league is everything whereas in all the other leagues 2nd and even 3rd get the job done just the same without a shiny pot at the end of it. In this league it seems to be win at all costs and that is something that will always be different I think, whilst I take your point on the quality of the league. I do think that win at all costs mentality is something we've not had in this league and this season we've gone the other way and been a soft touch, a trait of the manager perhaps. I think you say that if that is purely the plan. If we are hiring someone purely to get us promoted or with that aim then it is unfair on that person not to tell them that it is 10 games then gone or not if we go up and decide to keep them but purely 10 games initially. Everyone knows where they stand then and can get on with the job in hand. It goes back to the two job roles. Martin Allen in terms of his qualities would be perfect for the 10 game role, his style may not suit our squad but that is for Fuccillo and Pleat to decide upon if Pleat is consulted on this decision. If we were to get a 10 game man who goes beyond the 10 games whichever division we are in then I would like to see it given to Paul Fairclough who is a manager I've admired for a while. As I said before though, I understand the job has been offered to 10 game target number one. Whether we've had the answer or not I've no idea but you would think if someone isn't in by the end of Thursday that plan goes and option number 2 - the long term plan - comes into play because once Easter is done we'll have 5 league games left and it seems pointless hiring someone for that length of time. If only Alan Neilson wanted to do it longer/permanently then it would be a lot easier. It'll run and run as they say.
