Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet North & South Mar 24 Vauxhall Motors away at Hinckley United (13/8 VCbet, 10Bet) This should be a tight relegation scrap but neither side does tightness, and I suspect that it’s the visitors who have the momentum. Hinckley have rightly drawn plaudits for some spunky performances when you least expect it, but the simple fact is that their home record is poor – in the last seven home league games they have lost five, beating ten-man Worko and gaining a point in the 5-5 with Staly. But Andre Gray has gone, and that reduces their attacking potential by a notch. Motors have managed three wins on the spin with some decent performances and a progressive style. The return of Abi Onuruo will help their attacking threat, and they already have a number of players in form. Colywn Bay away at Corby Town (9/5 VCBet) I went against Corby last week in the 2-2 at Staly. The wrong call, but Staly were on top and Corby probably won’t be allowed the set-piece freedom that gifted them a point – Bay are a reasonably well drilled outfit who have conceded just one goal in five away league games, despite the questionable defensive performance in the last home league game and the cup match at Bangor. The situation at Corby is transitional, and with one point from five, and eight straight home defeats they look under threat to me, even though striker Mark Jones is an emerging talent for the home side. Hampton & Richmond Borough away at Weston-super-Mare (3/1 10bet) Though the improvement at Hampton is somewhat tentative, they are in much better nick than at Christmas time. Since winning at Staines they have been reasonably competitive away from home, and were a shade unfortunate to lose at Chelmsford. Dean Inman is missing for this one, which is a worry, but Weston have comprehensively lost the plot since January – only four from a possible 30 points, with a fortunate win at Farnborough last week and a draw at home to Thurrock. To be fair, they have put in better performances than those results suggests, and there is a danger that Hampton chase the game leaving themselves open for counters, but the price is too big for me.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet North & South Mar 24 Bishop’s Stortford v FC Halifax Town The home side are one of the form teams in the Blue Square North at the moment and the only defeat in their last six came away at Colwyn Bay on a Tuesday night which I will let them off given the mammoth trip that is. They have had some good results otherwise, including beating Saturday’s opponents 1-0 in their penultimate game. Halifax had a bright spell a couple of months back which saw them look possible title contenders, but their recent form has been poor and their only victory in their last seven games came against Harrogate. The problem is a lack of goal as if you take out the ones against Harrogate they have only managed one more in their last six games. That has to be a concern and although they have signed Ross Hannah and Sean Clancy on loan neither helped them find a goal against Gloucester City last weekend. The home side are in better form and beat them a couple of weeks ago, but are still available at 12/5 (Bet 365 and Paddy Power) which seems too big to me. Corby Town v Colwyn Bay I have written plenty about Corby of late and obviously opposed them to great affect a couple of weeks ago as their shocking home form continued against Worcester. I listened to that game on the radio and to be fair they put up more of a battle than I thought they would, but it seems to me they just lack quality and confidence at the moment. Last Saturday they drew against Stalybridge, but it was mainly thanks to two set pieces as Stalybridge bossed the game, and of course Stalybridge have been struggling to see games out of late. Colwyn Bay’s form has been pretty poor as well since they went on their great run in January and they have only won once in their last six. For that reason they aren’t anywhere near as strong a bet as Worcester were, but you can ignore their 5-0 thrashing by Hinckley last Saturday as they played over half with nine men and were on the end of some very tough refereeing decisions. Their away form is pretty solid at the moment with only one loss in their last six and given Corby have long forgotten how to win at home I am happy to back an away win at 13/8 (generally available). Hinckley v Vauxhall Motors The home side have certainly been capable of some very good performances this season but most of the time they have been a pretty poor side. Amazingly they have actually scored more goals than Nuneaton who are currently second in the table and yet they still have a minus ten goal difference. It was a big blow for them on Thursday when their top scorer and best player by a mile, Andre Gray was sold to Luton. As I mentioned above I think we can ignore their 5-0 win over Colwyn Bay for form purposes and they were awful on Monday night when losing 2-1 to Solihull. With Gray gone they are likely to struggle up front and have only picked up seven points in their last eight home games. This is a huge six pointer at the bottom with Motors two points below their hosts in the table and a win will see Hinckley in the bottom three. Motors seem to be clicking at the right time as they have won three on the bounce, including a really good performance to beat promotion chasing Gainsborough last Saturday. The only team to beat them in their last five is Hyde and they definitely have the momentum with them going into this crucial game. Bet365 go 7/4 about an away win which is just about big enough for me to get involved. Histon v Nuneaton This is a very risky bet as Nuneaton are flying at the moment and were impressive in beating champions elect Hyde last weekend. However Histon continue to play really well and I am adamant that they are better than their league position suggests. They have only won twice in their last six games but their performances have deserved more and they were very unlucky against third placed Guiseley on Saturday as they equalised with pretty much the last kick of the game. The Blue Square North has thrown up some funny results all season and Histon have it in them to win a game like this as they have some real quality in the side. Bet365 are 100/30 about a home win which is a fair bit bigger than it should be and I am happy to take what looks a great value bet. Boreham Wood v Eastleigh I don’t think I have tipped in a Boreham Wood game all season, but I do think they look a solid bet to beat Eastleigh in the Blue Square South on Saturday. One slight concern is their recent home form is not as good as it has been this season, but crucially their only two defeats in their last eight at home have come against Woking and Chelmsford. Also they have actually only lost once in their last eight and are proving a very tough side to beat at the moment. I have written plenty about Eastleigh in recent weeks, mainly backing them at home and opposing them away. The problem for them is that since I last backed them at home they have actually gone and lost three on the bounce. Add that to the fact they have been pretty poor away from home all season and that they have lost Jamie Slabber to Chelmsford and they look opposable here. BetVictor and Stan James are both 5/4 and that looks a very fair price.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet North & South Mar 24 I had the pleasure of watching Boreham Wood win 6-1 against Eastleigh, although the first half Eastleigh were probably just about the better side and well done to Ships on Hampton. Motors and Histon could only draw, whilst Corby finally won at home and Ross Hannah seemed to make all the difference for Halifax as he scored a hat-trick
