Re: England > Weekend > FA Trophy Semi, BlueSQ Bet North & South Mar 10 Some early takes... Blyth Spartans at home to Eastwood Town (6/5 VCBet) A largeish price about an improving side. I think the coherence of Blyth's performances have been gathering for a while and they are finally turning them into decent results. Eastwood have been showing signs of fight, and you can't ignore a draw with Halifax and a win at Guiseley, but since then they've blundered rather in two heavy home defeats to two of the ropier sides in the section. Harrogate Town at home to Vauxhall Motors (19/20 VCBet) Signs of life at Harrogate too, with much improved performances in the last five. They now have much more firepower than at any time this season and I think they will be too strong for a Vauxhall side that plays with spirit but concedes too many. Worcester City away at Corby Town (9/5 10bet, VCBet) It has been a punishing week for Corby and I don't think it will get any easier. Worcester had a poor spell around Christmas but they turned defeats into draws and the last two have been solid home wins. They look up for the run-in, and there's value in the price for their visit to a Corby that has lost half-a-dozen on the bounce at home. Hampton & Richmond Borough at home to Truro City (17/10 VCBet) A fair risk, given that H&R rarely win at home, but they are improving, with the latest crop of bodies adding to the squad in defensive and attacking areas. They only got a point from games with Woking and Chelmsford but they were pretty competitive. Truro are showing no signs of emerging from their victory against the HMRC. They've won just once since November and look a touch light. I make H&R slight favourites and the price is a sporting one.

Re: England > Weekend > FA Trophy Semi, BlueSQ Bet North & South Mar 10 I am really tempted by Blyth this weekend. They also have the Messiah Robbie Dale back on loan for a month. Could a Dale inspired Blyth make it 3 wins in a row? Yes, I think they can I cant add much more to what Ships has said about the merits of Blyth's current form. Evens is a puntable price

Re: England > Weekend > FA Trophy Semi, BlueSQ Bet North & South Mar 10 From the Eastwood Town official site: Current Squad Due to extreme cuts to the playing budget, several of the current first team squad have given their intention to leave the club. John Ramshaw has been forced to sign some of the young reserves side as cover for the first team. None of the contract players are immediately affected........More details will follow on any players who decide to leave. Have to say the club has had a very youthful look to it since Christmas, but it would fit in with Ramshaw's statement after the Motors game that they are as good as relegated.

Re: England > Weekend > FA Trophy Semi, BlueSQ Bet North & South Mar 10 It's still not clear what sort of side Eastwood will be able to put out tomorrow. But it appears, according to a post on one of the Eastwood fans' forums, that the players were told that there is no money left (though presumably the club will continue to pay the contracted players, as the website says they won't be leaving). Of the non-contracts, eight have chosen to leave. This can only harm Eastwood's chances - the last time they travelled with a mix of first-teamers and academy boys was to Workington a month ago, when they lost 3-0 in a game where Worko could have had many more. My own price yesterday morning was 4/6 Blyth, which is why the 6/5 appealed. I think in the circumstances I'd bring that in a bit.

Re: England > Weekend > FA Trophy Semi, BlueSQ Bet North & South Mar 10

Do you know whether these 8 players are important?
Others may have more information, but I don't know who they are and I'm guessing it won't actually become clear what the team is until 2.30 tomorrow. The players' reaction last night was in response to the direct question: would you play for nothing? Some might change their views and choose to remain, though given the generally clumsy way Eastwood are going about things at the moment that seems unlikely. It may also be that some of the contracted players will choose to leave. What the club is after is a squad that costs as little as possible to run, and I'm guessing the budget is now less than an Evo-Stik 1 side.

Re: England > Weekend > FA Trophy Semi, BlueSQ Bet North & South Mar 10 As Ships says we dont know who they are, but what we do know is they had a pretty small squad anyway so if they were to lose 8 whoever they were it would be a massive blow. Also they werent very good anyway.

Re: England > Weekend > FA Trophy Semi, BlueSQ Bet North & South Mar 10 According to a poster on the Conny North board, he believes that Chris Shaw has gone - a first-teamer, but not regular of late. He also believes recent signings Craig Nelthorpe, Bradley Munn and Craig Davies have gone, though none of this is confirmed.

Re: England > Weekend > FA Trophy Semi, BlueSQ Bet North & South Mar 10 Corby v Worcester Another team who look in a bit of trouble at the moment is Corby. I have written plenty about them recently, highlighting their problems at home and their strengths away. Corby have now lost seven on the bounce at home and things have started to go wrong on their travels as they lost their two away games in the past week, including a very disappointing 6-2 defeat at Harrogate. The reasons behind this are starting to come out as Corby’s assistant manager resigned after that loss and he said that he has not been paid for six weeks while several of the players were being asked to play for free. He also said that that dressing room morale is at rock bottom with players unhappy at not being told what is going on with the club`s finances in the wake of some senior players leaving. Now Worcester haven’t always been at their best on their travels but given that news they look a fantastic bet and to be fair the team really seem to be gelling now after signings were made during January. Losses at the start of the year turned into draws and have now become wins, having taken their last two and put in a very impressive performance on Saturday. Given Corby can’t buy a win at home, the team’s morale is so low and Worcester look in good shape, I really do fancy an away win strongly. Again it’s BetVictor who are best price at 9/5.

Re: England > Weekend > FA Trophy Semi, BlueSQ Bet North & South Mar 10 From the official Eastwood site: "The following players have now left the club Paul Riley / Francis Green / Craig Nelthorpe / Bradley Munn / Craig Davies" Riley, Green and Munn started last Saturday against Hinckley and Nelthorpe and Davies came on as subs. Riley and Green started against Vauxhall Motors midweek, with Munn coming on. Chris Shaw is suspended tomorrow, which leaves them looking a little short at the back. Francis Green is experienced and though hardly prolific he did score in the win at Guiseley - I'd imagine he'll be missed. The dangerous youngster Gregg Simmonds will also probably be missing as he's on trial up the food chain. Jervaise Christie has been in decent nick up front and will probably start. They are rightly massive outsiders: the Eastwood price is now about right - Blyth should never have been north of Evs.

Re: England > Weekend > FA Trophy Semi, BlueSQ Bet North & South Mar 10 The more I consider matters the more I fancy a play on York today. Although both they and Luton would far prefer to gain promotion there is no guarantee with both only shooting for the play offs and there is money to be made from a final. If it was simply on recent form then it would probably be no play, with Luton being in slightly better form than York recently, but Luton against top 6 sides is another matter. They are pants having, I think, only beaten one of them all season (Southport) and that was in September. They created not a lot of bugger all against Wrexham on Wednesday and the players seem unhappy with the 4-5-1 system Brabin uses. You can back York at 2.30 or so in several places and I am on that today.

Re: England > Weekend > FA Trophy Semi, BlueSQ Bet North & South Mar 10 Harrogate was a failure, but otherwise a decent day - Hampton and Worcester came home at decent prices, as did today's main event Blyth. Cracking call by bartonbank on York today, and hats off to Stodin for highlighting the situation at Eastwood.
