Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet North & South Feb 18 Corby v Histon Corby’s home form is horrendous and their defeat against Hinckley on Wednesday night was their 6th on the bounce at home. Based on that they are no odds-on shots to beat Histon this weekend. Histon may be having issues off the field with a lack of money but I think the fact manager David Livermore is determined to finish the job he has started speaks volumes. He has built a young but promising squad and they appear to be improving nicely as the campaign goes on and their performances have been decent of late. The last time I wrote this column I tipped them up to beat Guiseley and they got a cracking point there and were 2-0 up. I actually think Histon have the better team at the moment with some really promising youngsters and given Corby’s home form I think bwin have massively overpriced the away side at 29/10. Eastwood v Halifax Eastwood are a poor side and will be relegated come the end of April. They have only managed to win three games and two of those came in August, whilst their last victory was at the end of October. It is hard to see them picking up many more points as although the team try hard they just aren’t good enough at this level. In their last two Gloucester beat them 2-0 and Workington beat them 3-0 and both sides could have scored more. Halifax have been on a great run where they have only dropped points in one of their last nine games, a 2-2 draw against Gainsborough. That run has seen them storm up the table and now they have a real chance of catching Hyde at the top, something that looked near enough impossible a couple of months ago. Sometimes teams can suffer from compliancy but given their good run and the fact they just cant afford to slip up in games like this I cant see anything but an easy Halifax victory. Blue Square have priced up the handicap and have Halifax -1 at 11/8 which looks worthwhile. Solihull v Worcester This could be a risky bet as I seem to be struggling to get Worcester right having either taken them on or backed them of late and every time I have failed to collect. I do think though that Solihull are worth backing here at 5/4 to gain another three points at home. I wrote in my last piece how strong Solihull’s home form is and they got a victory over Hyde last time which I thought they were capable of. I still think Worcester are opposable on their travels even though they managed to get a point against Workington in their last away game and with Solihull so strong at home I am happy to take BetVictor’s 5/4 on a home win. Hopefully I can break that Worcester curse. Hampton & Richmond v Eastleigh Eastleigh yet again proved on Tuesday night how poor their away form is compared to their home form. They have only picked up 11 points on their travels this season which is one of the worst records in the league and on Tuesday they were lucky to get a point at Staines who are in the relegation zone. They didn’t play well and had to rely on two penalties to come back from two down. That point actually saw Staines go above Hampton in the table and I fully accept that one win in their last six is not great form. They have only lost twice in that time though and one of those was to second place Dartford. Granted they were well beaten in the FA Trophy on Tuesday against Northwich but I can imagine that beating relegation is much more important to them and they are capable of decent efforts as a draw against Sutton recently proved. If Eastleigh put in another of their lacklustre performances away from home then they could easily lose this and at bwin’s price of 12/5 I think it is worth taking the chance on Hampton.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet North & South Feb 18 Really pleased with Histon I knew that the bookies had priced that game up wrongly and finally Histon get the three points their recent efforts have deserved. Not so happy with Halifax although it just proves that factors outside your control can change a football match. They were 2 up after 10 mins and were looking very comfortable until they went down to 10 men and then right at the end of the half gave away a penalty. Sounds like they struggled to get going in the 2nd half but with 11 men on the pitch it should have been a case of how many really.
