The greatest poker song?

I love listening to music when I play poker but what is the greatest song about poker ever? I like many but Stevie V "Dirty Cash" is a good one. But my favourite has to be by Kenny Rogers - The Gambler. Lyrics as follows. On a warm summer’s evenin’ on a train bound for nowhere, I met up with the gambler; we were both too tired to sleep. So we took turns a starin’ out the window at the darkness ’til boredom overtook us, and he began to speak. He said, son, I’ve made a life out of readin’ people’s faces, And knowin’ what their cards were by the way they held their eyes. So if you don’t mind my sayin’, I can see you’re out of aces. For a taste of your whiskey I’ll give you some advice. So I handed him my bottle and he drank down my last swallow. Then he bummed a cigarette and asked me for a light. And the night got deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression. Said, if you’re gonna play the game, boy, ya gotta learn to play it right. You got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em, Know when to walk away and know when to run. You never count your money when you’re sittin’ at the table. There’ll be time enough for countin’ when the dealin’s done. Now ev’ry gambler knows that the secret to survivin’ Is knowin’ what to throw away and knowing what to keep. ’cause ev’ry hand’s a winner and ev’ry hand’s a loser, And the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep. So when he’d finished speakin’, he turned back towards the window, Crushed out his cigarette and faded off to sleep. And somewhere in the darkness the gambler, he broke even. But in his final words I found an ace that I could keep. You got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em, Know when to walk away and know when to run. You never count your money when you’re sittin’ at the table. There’ll be time enough for countin’ when the dealin’s done. You got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em, Know when to walk away and know when to run. You never count you r money when you’re sittin’ at the table. There’ll be time enough for countin’ when the dealin’s done.

Re: The greatest poker song? Aye that is definately the best song about poker that I know - Moterheads "The Ace of Spades" is a good gambling one aslo but Kenny Rogers has to be the all time classic. On a similar note I dont think there is a poker film that could possibly hope to compete with Matt Damon and Ed Norton in "Rounders" if ANYONE who reads this forum has not seen this film yet then do yourself a favour and buy it from amazon because it is fantastic. Re: The greatest poker song? Las Vegas ain't too bad. A bit too much of the ol' A-B storylines where the 'B' story doesn't lead anywhere apart from the bad guys being caught in a not so spectacular way and the 'A' story is pure melodramatic mush. The new show that's on in the US, on ESPN called Tilt ain't too bad. I've just been watching the first episode through nefarious means although it's purely up to the viewer whether you think Michael Madsen can portray such a legendary poker player. It's kinda set-up alright. It's supposedly set during some World Championship event. You've got a scenario similar to the Gabriel Bryne/Stuart Townsend/Thandie Newton/Sylvester Stallone flick Shade where a team of hustlers try to raise the bankroll to take on Don 'The Matador' Everest (played by Michael Madsen) and there's some other side-stories as well. You've got the crooked casino owner and his accomplice who's in some scheme (again, Michael Madsen). You've got a cop/poker player who's out to avenge his brother who was caught as a casino cheater and is out to get the casino because out of what he believes was collusion between Michael Madsen and some of the other poker players sending signals to each other (he wants the security tapes to see the signals but the casino obviously being in cahoots with certain players won't let the cops see them). The cop had a nice bankroll of $8000 which he built up to over $20,000 but his set of 2s on the flop gets thumped by a 3 to 7 straight when a 7 appears on the turn (cop holds a pair of 2s but Madsen's holding 4, 6 Spades). ....anyone else seen this? I think Sky One will have the rights if it gets to over 20 episodes.

Re: The greatest poker song? Yep ive seen shade as well, its not a bad film. I enjoyed the storyline and the sleight of hand card trick stuff was well cool. However in the poker scenes they, several times, get the use of the term "buy the pot" SO horribly wrong that it spoiled it for me a bit. Buying the pot is poker slang for betting hard and winning the pot with not the best hand. In the film they try and suggest that by betting more than the other person has he can "buy the pot" as the other person cannot afford to call. This is of course ridiculous have they never heard of the phrase being all in. Jez
