Re: England > Weekend > Evo-Stik Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Sept 3-4 A couple of weekend plays for me... Matlock Town away at Burscough (11/10 widespread) Despite the gutsy point against Kendal (the result of a great first half performance followed by an abject second), Burscough are struggling, and it probably won't help in the short term that they are now under the charge of Derek Goulding after Chris Stammers' surprise departure. Matlock have improved since an opening day defeat and have been competitive in every game since, with Ian Holmes proving a decent replacement for Ross Hannah. They are unbeaten in five; Burscough have one point in six. Wingate & Finchley away at Tooting & Mitcham United (2.46 Youwin or 11/8 elsewhere) Wingate & Finchley's start has been pretty surprising, with three straight wins based on some quick-fire football going forward and solid defending - the attrributes of a squad that has hardly changed since promotion. Tooting have scored four in both away matches, while losing both home games so far, so it's a coin-toss as to how the season will go. I'd fancy them in a straight shoot out against a similarly open outfit, but W&F are too organised for that and the visitors have a sporting chance at his price. Hitchin Town at home to Bashley (6/5 Skybet) Bashley's two Bank Holiday wins were a touch scratchy, and I'm not convinced that they've turned a corner, though of course the sqaud will have taken some confidence from those results. Hitchin - almost as prolific as Totton - are settling into the season nicely, and I suspect they will have too much pace in attacking areas for a Bashely side that has been exposed a few times already this season. Margate away at Horsham (13/8 Skybet) Their respective starts to the season suggest that these sides are pretty similar, but although one must give much respect to Horsham for their fine start after a troubled summer, the simple fact is that Margate's squad is a heap stronger. Horsham are on a steep learning curve and I suspect they will find it tougher at home, where the wilier sides will be patient - thus far, Horsham have lost both home games. Margate may also be bedding in the newcomers, but they have done okay away with a draw at Wealdstone in a game they might have won and a point with ten men at Hastings. Hemel Hempsted Town away at Banbury United (4/1 Skybet) Hemel's run since the start of the season has almost solely been down to a terrible series of defensive blips, although they also need to work on holding onto leads, which they have had in both the past two defeats. That said, there isn't as much difference between the sides as the price implies. Banbury have stated the season as the section's surprise package and full credit to them for that, but performances have been hard-working and dogged rather than eye-catching and they'll miss the Liam Dolman for this one. I can't get Hemel as far out as this.

Re: England > Weekend > Evo-Stik Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Sept 3-4 Hendon v Lewes Dipping into the Ryman Premier and the pre-season favourites travel to the only team in the division who have won all four matches so far. After losing to Lowestoft on the opening day, Lewes have won their other three games but their performances have not been the best and I get the feeling Steve King is still trying to get his side to gel. This is certainly their toughest test since the Lowestoft game and Hendon have been performing better than Lewes so far. It seems strange to me that VC and Stan James have both gone 7/4 about a home win here as I think, at worst, both teams should be the same price and I would probably make Hendon slight favourites. It should be added that they have already beaten two fancied sides in Bury Town and Carshalton so they are proven against the leagues better teams.
