Re: Rugby Union: 2011/12 RaboDirect Pro 12 This week i'm looking at four fixtures. The Dragons host the Blues at Rodney Parade tonight. Big night for the hosts with a new stand opening. They have a couple of Welsh internationals back on duty but really are up against it after a dismal defensive showing in Italy. Blues have been a bit unpredictable but had a good win last week and have Roberts, Jenkins and Davies starting and are rightly favourites. Blues scoring plenty and I can see them being very competitive here, but it's an occasion and the home side should show up too. Dragons Blues over 37.5 @ 1.971 Pinnacle 2 units Leinster host Munster with a full strength side. They've accommodated Kearney and Nacewa with Strauss and Boss preferred over Cronin and Reddan respectively. No O'Driscoll but 11 irish internationals makes them look very strong on paper. Munster had most of the returning internationals play last week and managed to dispatch Aironi. Barnes out for the more experience Mafi. Coming ahead of the opening Heineken Cup round they'll both be looking to match the test like occasion with a similar performance. There usually isin't much in these games and with both out-halves in good form, I can see it being a territory battle. I was going to take the unders but the line is too low at around 35 points so i'm staying away from the total and instead taking Leinster to win and a v. small bet on the draw, given its happened a few times. Finally, Munster have the worst disciplinary record and Leinster have the best, having not seen yellow or red this season, and its going to happen sometime. Being a heated derby game, I think a yellow being produced for either team is a strong possibility. Hope to take that in-play should the market appear. Leinster to win by 1-12 @ 3/2 Betfred 1 unit Draw @ 25/1 Betfred 0.5 unit Over 0.5 yellow card @ maybe 5/6 to evens ? Ulster host Connacht in the second of two all Irish clashes. They welcome back Best and Ferris in addition to having Trimble back last week. Best's return will be significant as will the debut of WC winning All Black prop John Afoa. They won't have Pienaar to call on as he's out with a hamstring injury picked up in training but otherwise are close to their strongest fifteen. On a poor run of form with four losses and they'll be ultra motivated to get their season back on track. No fresh injury worries for Connacht. The team will be announced today but Elwood says he will field the strongest team possible and I would imagine it will be close to last weekends fifteen. Connacht have played four away, winning one, getting the bonus point in two others and losing by 10 last time out against Leinster in the RDS. While I can't see Connacht winning this outright, there's tremendous value in the + handicap against a team with four straight losses. Just going to wait til tomorrow to decide whether to take the +13 or risk big on an alternative handicap. Final game is Aironi Glasgow. I see value in Glasgow here. They beat Ospreys last week to go three straight. More news on team sheets later but -1.5 @ 2.13 on Pinnacle is a good price to win against a team that have only won 2 in the two seasons so far. To be fair Aironi may well win the game but purely on statistics that is good value. I'll post thoughts on that tomorrow, hopefully will be in profit this week by then. :ok

Re: Rugby Union: 2011/12 RaboDirect Pro 12 Dragons Blues game looks like it's been called off. Rain pouring from the heavens. Unfortunately and unsurprisingly no cards markets up for the Munster Leinster game on any of the sportsbooks i'm on. 6-3 Leinster after 18'.

Re: Rugby Union: 2011/12 RaboDirect Pro 12 Dragons Blues over 37.5 @ 1.971 2 units Void Leinster to win by 1-12 @ 3/2 1 unit :p Win Draw @ 25/1 0.5 unit :sad Loss Only got the last half hour but Leinster looked good and excelled at the breakdown. Consummate kicking display from both 10's, a yellow card for each side at 24 - 12 allowed Munster the chance to get a bonus point. As I said above I have faith Connacht will do better than a +13, which is now out to +15 on some books against Ulster. Ulster may win the game but can't see it by a big margin given their form. I also think Glasgow are overpriced away at Aironi. Both sides at 10/11 on Betfred and don't see either side thrashing the other, but if there is a hammering, Glasgow will dish it. So as I reckon the spreads are set too far i'm trying a 2 unit double on: Connacht +20 @ 1/2 Glasgow +8 @ 4/11 @ 21/20 If I get a chance in play over 2.5 tries in the Edinburgh Treviso game. :hope

Re: Rugby Union: 2011/12 RaboDirect Pro 12 Connacht +20 @ 1/2 Glasgow +8 @ 4/11 @ 21/20 :p Win Very lucky, Glasgow never in doubt but Connacht mustered a measly penalty and eventually lost by 19! Skin of the teeth stuff. No in play for the Treviso Edinburgh match, luckily for me as there were only two tries. No Rabo for two weeks as we have Heineken Cup action to look forward to.

Re: Rugby Union: 2011/12 RaboDirect Pro 12 Glasgow v Ulster Glasgow on a four game streak in this league giving them the favourites tag but their first team was spanked last weekend by an excellent half of rugby from Leinster. Six changes from that side with Gray on the bench and Cusiter there too. They've changed things up in the backline with Samoan international Lemi starting. They were found out last weekend and with so many changes they're going to find it hard to get early momentum against a beefy Ulster pack. Ulster will look to put last weekends good showing but point-less trip to Leicester. They've had the tougher fixtures in the Heineken and now that the squad is established I think they'll be very motivated to put this one away. IRFU player management see's rests for Best and Ferris, with Henry and Gilroy being rested also. Diack and Falloon will have to show their worth in a game that'll be won and lost at the breakdown in what looks like being a poor night for flowing stuff. I think Ulster have the bigger squad depth to come away with a win. Depending on the spread I may also look at unders. Ulster @ 13/10 Pinnacle 2 units

Re: Rugby Union: 2011/12 RaboDirect Pro 12 Ulster @ 13/10 Loss Glasgow getting the only try tied at 9-9 in the 71st minute. Weir nailed a drop goal afterward to seal the win. Taking Leinster -5.5 @ evens on Pinnacle for a unit. The European champions flexed theirs strength for forty minutes last week and even though there's a host of changes for this league encounter their squad has depth and everyone wants to put their hand up to play. O'Malley will look to cement his place at 13 after two tries last week, and Healy packs down for his very first start in blue this season in the league. A bench of young and new players along with gamewinners Heaslip, Boss and McLaughlin show they aren't travelling lightly. Treviso played with pride last week and drew with Ospreys. They've got a full squad to choose from this week and play all of their internationals in the 22. They've had a good season so far and have a good record at home. They turned over Leinster here last season and Leinster won't have forgotten that. Despite the Italians strong record here I think Madigan will show some class and steer a supremely confident Leinster side to a win.

Re: Rugby Union: 2011/12 RaboDirect Pro 12 Nice one :ok Ulster v Scarlets Ulster played well in their clash with Clermont and just didn't have enough at Leicester and that was their only win in the last six. They've had various players missing here and there but they have - with the arugable exception of Wallace - their strongest 22 playing tomorrow. Pienaar is on the bench and front liners Gilroy, Ferris, Best, Court etc start. Afoa plays too and will hopefully front up and show people he's serious. I'm betting against the in-form Scarlets, as I was when they won at Franklins Gardens. This is a different side to the one that won that day, as eight first teamers play with Wales against Australia. An eight game streak ain't just luck but I think theirs will run out tomorrow given the reduced competitiveness of the first team. They actually drew their last game against the Ospreys away, but have only won one other away game in the league, with three losses to Munster, Treviso and Connacht. Ulster have won three of four games at home this season by at least 14 with one loss against our old friends, Treviso. Scarlets will have the passion, but I think Ulster need this more and the strength of the side at home will be too much. Ulster -10 @ 1.971 Pinnacle 2 units Leinster v Cardiff I'm going for the home team again. Cardiff are a very good team and the fact they're up there in the Rabo is the same reason they're doing well in Europe: they've a great big squad. I think they're out about 8 Welsh players but I think they'll still manage to rack up a try or two. Players like Lualua and Czekaj can conjure opportunities for James who's been finishing well this season. Ceri Sweeney has gotten his name up near the top of the points scorers too. Leinster will have just a bit too much for them tomorrow. Cheika has suffered a couple of losses at home and he's well aware of it. Leinster barely got out of second gear for most of that Munster game a while ago, while they really showed their class against Edinburgh and Glasgow in the HC and league respectively. A well fought win over Treviso last week put some more demons to rest and they've got a lot a really great looking 22 playing tomorrow. Fionn Carr plays again after a try last week and he'll hope to finish off moves supplied by the in form O'Malley and Madigan. Big game players Nacewa (hopefully he'll have a big game to make sure of the start in the HC games), Healy and O'Brien having another stint in the 8 jersey. It'll be interesting to see how Ruddock performs as blindside in his place. Their real strength tomorrow is their bench. Sexton, David Kearneys older brother, Ross, Van der Merwe and even Cronin are potential gamebreakers. Cardiff have a really good record away so far this season, winning three (against easier teams Connacht, Aironi and less so Edinburgh, though that was the first game of the season) with a loss to Ulster. Leinster have had -9.5 wins against Aironi, Connacht and the Dragons, as well as a five point win over Munster. The only blot on the copybook was the loss to the Warriors back in August. While I think both teams have good form, i'm betting the full strength Irish side will prevail by at least ten. Leinster -9.5 @ 1.971 Pinnacle 2 units Will probably post a few more over/under bets tomorrow :hope

Re: Rugby Union: 2011/12 RaboDirect Pro 12 Connacht v Treviso Both sides haven't won in ages now. Connacht welcome back Swift, Muldoon, Ofisa and locks Reynecke and Loughney. O'Connor and Murphy are the halfbacks and i'm glad to see Jarvis and Vainikolo on the bench. Connacht will manage to be more competitive at home against Treviso than other visitors to the sportsground, but the Italians have done as others and put out a fairly strong team. Brendan Williams has been excellent so far this season and i'm always interested to watch the young Semenzato in action. I don't know a lot about their pack but they'll be looking to win here after losing the fightback against Leinster last week. They've been competitive away so far this season, winning 2 from only 3 games played, and against a Connacht team who've lost their last two at home in the league - as well as a good 4 or 5 other games - I think the value is very much on Treviso at 2.7. Since I don't want that to happen, i'm instead betting the overs. Having lived in Galway for many years the weather looks predictably shocking by the looks of the forecast, Connacht's home games have all been very tight (with the exception of Ospreys 11 point win last time out) low scoring affairs. Treviso got beat up by Cardiff in the opening rounds but both the other games finished under 40. I would be on the unders normally but Bet.365 have the total at 30, which is a very small total, and even with these low scoring sides, I can see it being beaten. Over 30 @ Bet365 1 unit Edinburgh v Aironi Edinburgh have taken people by surprise but Bradley's name has barely been mentioned in tandem with their success, and i'm sure he likes it that way. The team is gaining belief and they're fielding most of their Scottish internationals tomorrow, along with Esteban Lozada and (he'll probably be Scottish soon) Tim Visser. Aironi field close to their strongest side tomorrow with a few positional places up for grabs at both props and amongst the loose forwards. Olivier has done well to get some points which is only notable as they have real issues scoring tries. I think they'll have to go over against the same side that played out that 97 pt thriller a few weeks back. Edinburgh average 48 a game and Aironi about 35. Edinburgh games are exciting with no games having either team finishing with single figures, and over 20 points at half time for three of the four so far. Aironi have mustered very little (in fact nothing last weekend, beaten 38-0 by the full strength Blues) albeit against Munster, Blues, Leinster, Scarlets and the Dragons, only averaging just over a converted try per game. I think they'll do better tomorrow against an imperfect Glasgow defence, but Glasgow lost with a bonus point back in September and revenge will most definitely be on the cards. Over 38 @ 10/11 Bet365 1.5 units

Re: Rugby Union: 2011/12 RaboDirect Pro 12 Ospreys v Munster Welsh side missing 8 players to Wales game, 3 players to a sevens camp, a few more through injury and another few to a 'Help for Heroes' game at Twickenham, they are a lot more depleted than I thought they were during the week. If i'd have know that i'd have taken Munster a lot sooner at a better price but I still think the Opsreys are up against it here. They've only lost one match all season (away to Glasgow) and have been putting teams to the sword at home with a 9-9 draw against Scarlets the only exception. They also put away Munster at Thomond a few rounds ago 17-13 and Munster will be keen to avenge that. Players like the hugely impressive Duncan Jones have shown Ospreys squad to be a big and competitive one and their WC results showed they didn't need the intl's to flourish but they weren't up against a full strenght Munster. McGahan changes 7 for the match, most changes coming in the pack and more experience brought in elsewhere with Howlett, Ryan, Botha and Leamy all back. Strong bench with O'Connell, O'Gara and Du Preez ready to come on and do some damage. Munster have lost their last two away matches in the league to Edinburgh and Leinster a month back. Its fair to say they've gotten their mojo back since and are firing on all cylinders. They are in a similar place to Leinster in that they have a lot of young tyro's who've made themselves contenders due to the WC absences and the squad is eager and very strong in comparison to Ospreys today, so i'm going for the away win and overs. Munster @ 1.971 2 units Pinnacle Over 36.5 @ 1.885 1 unit Pinnacle

Re: Rugby Union: 2011/12 RaboDirect Pro 12 Munster Vs Connacht 26th Dec 2011 Connacht +14 @ 10/11

The Centre battle is going to be very exciting with Griffin/McSharry Vs Earls/Barnes. The Connacht team is pretty much full strength. Despite this, Munster have the advantage in the scrum (at front row) and at half backs which is where Connacht have been struggling of late. Connacht have advantage in back-row with Mul and O'Concrete, plus TO'H and Duffy have edge over Scanlon and O'Dea. Zebo should have better of the defensive-blackhole which is Vainikolo (dude can't tackle for sh!t). Also be Hayes's last match- so be full house in Thomond:beer

Munster Vs Connacht 26th Dec 2011 Connacht +14 @ 10/11 the defensive-blackhole which is Vainikolo (dude can't tackle for sh!t).
Finished 25-9 (15 point difference) :wall Vainikolo cost 7 points with bit of madness at missing a straight forward catch Niall O'Connor left 9 points on the pitch from very kickable pens- plus threw the pass which was intercepted Didn't help either with a Ref which gave about 6 final warnings to Munster players before finally sending DOC to the bin.. Yet gave some very soft pens to Munster.. sickened this didn't come in:@

Re: Rugby Union: 2011/12 RaboDirect Pro 12 Great call on Ulster chaps, never in doubt.:clap Cardiff @ 4/5 Bluesq Taking Cardiff to beat London Irish this afternoon. Edinburgh's win last night leaves Irish with little hope of getting through, Blues on the other hand have a great chance if they can take the win here. Both teams are having a pretty average season domestically but the Blues have found a bit of form in Europe, to me they just look like they have a bit more quality. They also have a few players coming back fit, Chris Czekai, Rhys Thomas and Fau Filise all return to give them a boost. Cardiff are strong in the pack and have class in the backs and I think that will be enough to get a crucial win here.
