Shipsupstreets
Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem 26-27 With a day and half to go until the Saturday kick-offs, it's a shame that we've only got thin numbers to ponder. Time issues mean I've necessarily got to bite at what's on offer... Wealdstone away at East Thurrock United (6/4 Coral, 2.55 Bwin) Two draws are not the best of starts for Wealdstone, but they were against sides that I expect to finish top 5, and with a bit more luck on Tuesday they might have beaten Carshalton. East Thurrock have done wonders to get here - I had them down as a lower mid-table last season, but John Coventry fashioned an excellent side with a small budget. The summer has seen much rebuilding, and he's lost two excellent performers from last season in Kris Newby and Max Cornhill. To be fair, he's done well to bag Greg Cohen, who'll trouble the typical Ryman Prem full-back, but the season has started with some injury disruptions to the small squad and tentative performances at Tooting (where they won with a cross-cum-shot from the lively Kayan Kalipha) and then lost limply to Hastings at home. I think that ETU are some way from being where they want to be, whereas Wealdstone look much more likely to trouble to top of the table, even though they are not quite at full strength yet. Finishing the chances they make has been Wealdstone's problem thus far, but with Alex Dyer due to return they will have a better balanced attack, to supplement an organised defence and a midfield that offers some bite and width. I make Wealdstone favourites for this one and 6/4 is a few notches outside my own price. Hitchin Town at home to Cirencester Town (Evs Corals, Bwin) I unsuccessfully backed Hitchin last week at home to a well-organised Evesham. This week, against a side that has already conceded 11, they are a touch further out. I think they will find it easier against a side that won't park the bus. Hitchin have some defensive issues themselves, conceding four at St Albans when they should have closed the game out before conceding a last-minute pen. Ciren also come into this off the back of a 4-4 where they conceded a late equaliser, but that was at Swindon, who carry much less of a threat than St Albans. The game promises to be wide open, but Hitchin - with some learning to do about overcoming tighter sides - should have enough to see off a Ciren side that looks some way from full strength. David Murphy, Ciren's loanee, is clearly a danger up front, but I think the prices is generous about Hitchin.
