Re: England > Midweek > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 16 Unfortunately I witnessed an opening day home defeat at Kidderminster on Saturday by a Gateshead side who impressed in several ways. In particular the right-sided axis of Odubade and Anaclet caused many problems with Shaw ever willing to get himself into good positions for their end product. Their was a glaring imbalance in that Gateshead offered absolutely nothing down their left-hand side, but this was redressed when Moore came on a substitute in the 2nd half. Gateshead were then properly balanced and ended the game well in control and looking worthy winners. From the reports it seems that Mansfield had several chances to overcome Bath City on Saturday but had to settle for a disappointing 1-1 draw. From the stats on their own website, however, Bath actually had 57% of possession. I feel Gateshead could keep their good start going tomorrow and are decent value to do so at 8/5 with Bet 365.

Re: England > Midweek > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 16 What are peoples thoughts on Alfreton at home to Southport? 2 missed penalties didn't help their cause at the weekend so unsure weather 3-1 was a true reflection of the game. Southport on the other hand showed some character to comeback twice from behind. Also interested on peoples views with Cambridge at home to Telford, I have absoloutely no clue about Telford but am under the impression that Cambridge are not as poor as some have suggested in the media this year.

On an ordinary Saturday Alfreton would have gone home with the points - they also had a goal disallowed and missed a real sitter in the first half. But they wouldn't be an uncomplicated selection against Southport (if that's what you are thinking of doing). They were physically a much bigger side than Hayes (it looked like the first team against the U18s when they lined up at the start), but they constantly got done for pace in one-on-ones. I think this was partly getting used to a faster level of football, as going forward they broke well at times but didn't have the support players to exploit situations. They do have match winners in the side, but they felt like a team that wasn't up and running yet. For me they are a leavealone.

That possession percentage looks very suspect, although it's repeated on the BBC and Sky sites. Everything else suggests Mansfield were well on top - 8 shots on (to 4); 5 shots off (to 3); 11 corners (to 3); and 17 fouls won (to 7). Must have been a dull game when Bath had the ball.

Re: England > Midweek > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 16 We're without our entire first choice back four tomorrow night. Murray, Pilkington, Blackett and Gleeson are all injured. I wasn't going to back us tomorrow anyway given that they have a bit of match sharpness we might need but that's confirmed my mind. Our back four will be something like Ed A-A/Howells, Beckwith, Antwi, Osano. I'll leave it up to others to decide if they want to take us on but that's our team news.

Re: England > Midweek > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 16 A spread trade I like very much tomorrow is a buy of Elliott Buchanan's goal minutes for Newport County, at 27 to buy with Sporting. He'll hardly know his former team mates, but he should do okay - Newport should line up with a more agressive formation from the rather disappointingly conservative side that lost at Kettering, and they should have much joy down the flanks, where both Hayes & Yeading full-backs are (to put it politely) some way from bedding in. Tom Cadmore had a great game for Hayes on Saturday but he can't cover everything at the back. Total goals also looks a buy, but I'll have a speculative trade on selling the time of the 3rd Newport goal at 80 with Sporting. Elsewhere, I've sold Bath City's mini-performance at 17 (Sporting Index or Spreadex). Wrexham have done enough to suggest they will have a decent season and it's hard to see Bath going wild in this one. The 0-0 and the 1-1 are on the right side of the bet. I've also sold Cambridge United's 2nd goal time at a rather generous 73 with Sporting. They are a progressive, score-and-concede side, and you get the feeling that they'll need to notch at least twice to win a game. I may take total goals in the game, though not for now. I quite fancy Liam Hearn's goal minutes, but I'm hanging fire on that one until I get to the bottom of his subdued performance on Saturday.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 12-13 YORK V BARROW FIRST GOALSCORER Walker 5/1 Boucaud 14/1 888 and Bluesquare I know that Jason Walker has been rubbished on these forums but he looks the real deal to me. For me he should be clear favourite in the first goalscorer market. Instead chambers and Reed head the market at 4/1. For some reason Walker is 5/1 the same as Henderson who wont start and never scores anyway. Just to confirm that Bluesquare have the market all wrong Peter Till is 8/1 but now plays for Fleetwood! Boucaud looks a different player this year. He is getting forward a lot and will definitely score goals. The 14/1 is overpriced and is worth a small nibble. I would have preferred the anytime market but cant fine one.

Re: England > Midweek > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 16 Perhaps Blue Square dont rate Walker much either. He was poor whenever I saw him for Luton last season and just wonder if its a case of he shone in a Barrow team that basically had no stars and it made him look better than he is. Given I have backed York to win the League I dont mind if he goes and proves me wrong. Blue Square use the lists given to them from the clubs so perhaps they dont have an updated list and they often have a wrong player in there somewhere.

Re: England > Midweek > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 16 Newport County v Hayes & Yeading My recommended bet in this match is one I don’t think I have ever tipped up before and that is both teams to score at 10/11 with William Hill. I fully expect Newport to win this game after losing at Kettering on the first day of the season and they looked good going forward in the highlights I saw. However Kettering did manage to create a few decent chances and Newport seemed a little shaky at the back. I have also seen the highlights of Hayes’ meeting with Alfreton on Saturday and in my view similar comments could be made as there were some clinical finishing from the Hayes forwards, but it looked like a better team than Alfreton should be able to score more than one past them. It could easily be a bit of a goalfest but I reckon both teams will be on the scoresheet. Stockport County v Kettering As I mentioned above, I have seen the highlights for Kettering’s game on Saturday and I have to say I was quite impressed with what I saw. They may have been slightly fortunate to have been awarded the penalty which won them the match, but they created enough chances prior to that to have won the match anyway. I was certainly more impressed with what I saw from Kettering compared to that of Stockport on Friday night on TV. County looked a bit clueless in the first half and they did improve in the second but didn’t create much in the final third and I think it was aided by the fact that Forest Green did little in the second half. I reckon Stockport will take a while to gel properly as a team and given they take on a side who got off to a cracking start on Saturday, I think they will struggle. I’d have been tempted by Skybet’s 9/4, let alone the 100/30 that is available with Stan James for a Kettering victory.

Re: England > Midweek > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 16 Walker tried too hard for us and that hampered his natural ability. Maybe the fact he felt he had to try too hard to impress suggests he was never the man for us (as did his penalty at Manchester :@). I'm sure he'll score goals for York but whether he scores enough to be top scorer in the division, which I believe was the basis of the original discussion about him, I have my doubts about.

Re: England > Midweek > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 16 Excellent evening at the office for me: Cambridge failed to score a 2nd for a 17 point loss, but that all came back with the Bath trade, which made up zero. Buchanan's goal produced a 26 point profit and the third Newport goal sell produced 18 points. Superb calls by Tadley on Walker to score first and by Labrador on Gateshead.
