Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 12-13 OK, good luck with the season one and all, and, as a punter who didn't know whether or not he would have a team to support until today, I thought I would post the first suggestions of a new season. Obviously it is go-easy time until it all settlesd down but, at a glance, there is one or two that take my eye. Firstly I think Alfreton can start off their BSP campaign with a win at Hayes and Yeading (at , umm, Woking). Hayes, I think, face a real struggle and, because of the cost of rent payable to their landlords for the season, they have only the bare minimum to put into squad strengthening from last season. Alfreton, on the other hand, will be raring to go and have had a goal-happy pre-season. Obviously little definite could really be taken from the 14-0 scoreline of a couple of weeks ago, save that they obviously have several players with an eye for the target. Frankly, I think if they knew they had to start with an away fixture I doubt they could have picked a better one...a ground with no real 'home' advantage and undoubtedly a small crowd to boot. Odds of 6/4 will suit me. Next, again, another game with no real home advantage when Newport, a team fancied to do well, visit Kettering at, umm, Irtlingborough. Difficult to find too much between the teams pre season performances but Newport will want to get off to a flyer and, at 11/8, are worth a small bet as well. At the price I am tempted with Ebbsfleet (who will be no pushovers this season) to beat York but probably won't bite, but WILL bite on my team, Wrexham, to beat Cambridge. The troubles in N Wales are well documented and missing two pre-season games will not have helped, but I doubt that the euphoria of today's efforts in raising over £100k will have dissipated by Saturday. The players, according to twitter, are amazed that we raised over £100k in a day, with one bloke taking down the deeds to his house and another giving his wedding money. Chuck in our decent record against Cambridge and I am confident of 3 points this weekend. On field we have had a decent pre-season and have even found a place in a team for Nat Knight Percival to look like a professional footballer (it is centreback!). Again nothing heavy but I will take the 5/4. Good luck all

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 12-13 Congrats, Barton - superb work by the Wrexham fans! I think you might be on to something with the Wrexham momentum train - sadly, I'm one of the vultures who fed on Cambridge United a couple of weeks back! Alfreton Town are a good call. Hayes & Yeading have been improving steadily through pre-season, but that only means they've made the step up from rank to mediocre. Alfreton should have that first-day flush of enthusiams which often allows newcomers to spring a result. Annoyingly, I took them at 7/5, though I am interested in VCbet's drift to 6/4.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 12-13 Tipping Wrexham is an exercise in futility but there is a momentum here and a sense of team spirit that is almost unbelievable. Add to that a statement from the Conference which basically said "Hey, we wanted to get your owners out nearly as much as you did." and Wrexham to win at 5/4 Blue Square looks great! Also, if I can draw your attention to our last 5 home league/Conference openers, 2010/11 Wrexham 1 Cambridge 0 2009/10 Wrexham 3 Eastbourne 0 2008/09 Wrexham 5 Stevenage 0 2007/08 Wrexham 2 Morecambe 1 2006/07 Wrexham 3 Grimsby 0 Wrexham to score over 2.5 goals at 4/1 and Wrexham to score over 3.5 goals at 14/1 (both bet365) looks tasty! There's usually a decent atmosphere at the first home game which seems to fire the players up - the atmosphere on Saturday will be way, way beyond decent, and can definitely see us scoring 3 or more.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 12-13 Very pleased that Wrexham has survived. If the example at Kidderminster last season is anything to go by, the spirit and commitment shown by our fans to save the club certainly transmitted itself to the players despite their lack of wages for almost 3 months (if I recall). Even the bucket collections around the ground enabled some much-needed money to be transferred to the players, and the donations received from fans of our big West Midlands neighbours (WBA, Villa, Birmingham) was heart-warming. Most heart-warming was the money received by fans of York City, a gesture that will never be forgotten (even though they have nicked Matty Blair:(). Like Ships, I do not expect to collect on my Cambridge United voucher this weekend, although I felt it was worth a modest stake bet in the circumstances. Apart from one or two goalscorer bets, I'll probably keep my powder dry this weekend. Like addpea, the events over recent days have taken away my appetite for researching bets.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 12-13 Can anyone assist, please? The site I have tended to use to identify the referee appointments has not been updated since the end of last season. Can't find anything else anywhere. Could someone confirm the ref for Forest Green v Stockport tomorrow evening? Many thanks in anticipation.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 12-13 Whatever Mansfield side Paul Cox has been putting out this summer, they've been scoring. I've sold the time of the 2nd Mansfield Town goal at 70 with Spreadex. I suspect they are going to be the sort of side that goes for the jugular, while simultaneously dropping their trousers and bending over, so I suspect there will plenty of goals in their games. But Bath City don't seem to have that many goals in them and I'll probably avoid - for now, I'm happy just with the sell.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 12-13 Another time-of-second-goal sell: this time, Alfreton Town at 74 with Sporting. A very attractive play, I think. Hayes & Yeading United are showing some signs of hooking up something like a competitive starting XI, with Mark Bentley, Curtis Ujah and Richard Paquette signing, but that's only in comparison with what they offered up earlier in the summer. They now have almost a squad signed, though Louie Soares - impressive in pre-season - is only there until the end of the month. Alfreton have been in decent nick pre-season and look much more like the complete package and they've been scoring healthily. I expect a few goals in this one - 2.9 is a very serviceable buy, and well worth an interest - but I'd give Alfreton some edge over Hayes.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 12-13 Bath have been ordinary in pre season and are missing their two best players from last season Mohammed (now Cheltenham via AFC Wimbledon) and Jombati (now Cheltenham). Look very light upfront, Lee Phillips badly needs some support. Not a lot of goals in them at the moment. Would go with Mansfield by two.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 12-13 Forest Green v Stockport Forest Green will be a team to watch this season have a new wealthy owner and have been spending money very wisely and have signed some very decent players and have not gone to mentai in lobbing money around to much but have got a settled squad of 20 players which may be added to by the end of the trasfer window and have seen are at 25/1 for promotion which is very tempting odds. But they do have a manager which they have had for a few seasons and is not very much liked by the supporters and will have to be a good season to win them over. But for tonights game Forest Green allready are struggling foor players with a number of players out including one of the bigest signings of the summer former premier league player Al Bangura still hasn't put on a Rovers shirt, and Rovers also have suspensions from last season which are carried over to tonight mainly in defence which would keep me away from odds of 11/4 of a Forest Green clean sheet. Stockport have also been big spenders and have added five more this week and will clearly be very competetive this season and with a manager of Didier Hamann who i'm sure wouldn't have been very desperate for a job when he took it he must of been assured of money to spend by the new owners of Stockport. Tonight i would go for over 3.5 goals - 9/4

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 12-13 One player goal minute trade tonight: a buy of Forest Green's James Rowe at 7 with Sporting. He's done well out wide in the preferred 4-3-3 that Dave Hockaday is surely going to stick with tonight, and he clearly has an eye for goals with two in pre-season (including a cracker against Hereford). It's quite hard to know how Stockport will set up tonight, but I don't think Hamman will just go there in 'a point will do' mode - total goals are a buy at 2.8, with Sporting and Spreadex.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 12-13 Id be interested to hear what others think who saw the game tonight, but I thought Stockport's performance in the second half was over hyped a bit. Yes they improved and FGR didnt have too much of the game in the 2nd half but I wouldnt have said they looked like they were going to score and the goal only came from a defensive/keeper mistake and came off Chadwick's cheek. That game could easily have been 0-0 for me as in the first half FGR didnt create much and the goal again was down to shocking defending. Also Hamman pretty much admitted he knew very little about the league and the team will take a while to get going I fancy.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 12-13 No profit from either trade tonight but no real damage done. Decent game and I thought Stockport played some good football but lacked a strategy - it all seemed to break down after a few passes, which could have been early-season rustiness, or it could be that they just haven't got a strategy; FGR stuck to their system, but were so inflexible that they progressively allowed Stockport back into the game. Without set-pieces, FGR created hardly anything. The score was about right, I'd say. It's impossible to extrapolate May's positions from a Friday night in August, but it wouldn't surprise me if both sides finished top half, outside the play-offs.

Be interesting to see if Didi can sort things out, I just got the sense he didnt really know what he was doing.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 12-13 Here are my first tips of the new season. Kettering v Newport If you have read my ante-post piece it won’t come as much surprise to see that I am tipping up Newport to get off to a flyer on Saturday. Imraan Ladak has rather strangely chosen Morell Maison as his new manager and although he has made one or two interesting signings over the summer, I get the feeling they might end up in a relegation battle. Also this is down as a home game but given it will be their first match at Rushden & Diamonds’ ground it will be strange for players and fans alike. I’m not going to repeat myself on Newport but this looks a nice chance for them to start off with a win and the sponsors go top price at 7/5. Kidderminster v Gateshead Steve Burr did a fantastic job at Kidderminster last season to almost get them into the play-offs. My feeling is that he is going to have a pretty tough job to repeat that this season and although he may be up to it, I actually think Saturday’s opponents could well finish above them at the end of April. As I wrote in my ante-post preview, I think Gateshead have got it in them to surprise this season and they look a big price at 16/5 with bet365. Ian Bogie has got a good side together and they should not be that sort of price to win this. Southport v Lincoln The home side won the AGM Cup this year and managed to stay in the Blue Square Premier despite the fact they were relegated on the last day of the season. They had spells last term where they were fairly hard to beat at home but Liam Watson has struggled to add to his squad and in my view he will be doing very well if he keeps them up. Steve Tilson has been much busier over the summer at Lincoln after relegation from the Football League and to be fair he looks like he has got a fairly good squad at his disposal. I would expect there to be a big points difference between these two teams come the end and I am happy taking bet365’s 13/10. I have like others on here already backed Cambridge United and I still dont think its a dead bet but at the same time it would be a game I would leave alone now. I was thinking about Alfreton as well but I just dont think the price offers a lot of value as Im not sure how strong Alfreton will be this season but I certainly understand why people would want to back them.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 12-13 Poor start to the season for me with Alfreton and Cambridge failing on the fixed odds, and the spreads didn't do much better - Alfreton and Mansfield failed to notch 2nd goals (I was one of the 262 at Hayes/Alfreton today and I knew the footballing gods were having a bit of first-day fun at the expense of my Sporting account by having Alfreton miss two pens and have a goal disallowed in the first half). At least there was some comeback from a buy of total goals in that game. Excellent call by addpea on Gateshead at Kidderminster.
