Re: Tennis - 18-24 July FFS thats 2 bets in 2 days both winning easily and the opponents retire. followed physco today with Vera Zvonareva and Atko yesterday with Philipp Kohlschreiber. Having not watched the matches are these really injured or they just F###### off because they are getting hammered. Those 2 would have got me back in profit :cry Shame BET365 dont offer retirement odds.

Re: Tennis - 18-24 July

I'm not sure about either of these. Montanes didn't turn up against Kohlschreiber and the German hasn't been playing well enough to suggest he'll beat Almagro (who has won more matches on clay this year than anyone else on tour). The line doesn't leave that much wiggle room and I'd rather be on Almagro (-2.5) to be honest. Monfils overs is a coin toss. The Frenchman is at a career high ranking, which suggests he's doing something right and Stepanek is 32 now. He was annihilated by GGL last week and he could easily get blown off court by Monfils. I wouldn't recommend betting on that happening but I also wouldn't bet against it. FWIW I'm taking: Verdasco (-3.5) @1.80 bet365 against Stebe Verdasco was impressive against Andujar, winning 6-2, 6-3, and looked like he wanted to win again after some shaky recent performances. He could do with picking up some ranking points ahead of the US Open and this is as good a place as any to get them. Stebe wasn't particularly impressive against Davydenko and should really have lost the second set but well, it's Davydenko. I was annoyed I missed opposing the Russian. Verdasco should prove too powerful for Stebe today and I could see this one finishing 6-2, 6-3 or something like that. When Verdasco's on, he can be very difficult to stop. Stebe lost 6-2, 6-1 to Andujar last week and since then he's faced an exhausted Ferrero and Davydenko, it's not like he's beaten anybody.
Verdasco won 7-5, 6-2. Once he got going he was far too strong for Stebe. The German had no answer when the Spaniard turned it on in the second set. Unlucky Atko. I don't take any pleasure in being right about those two and had no money on either. Personally I like to put my thoughts up before I take them and welcome any dissent as it makes me re-consider, hopefully you're the same.

Re: Tennis - 18-24 July Not had time to have a good look at the match ups over the last two days, but have picked a few games for tomorrow. Hopefully will help win back some of what I lost at the start of the week. Kateryna Bondarenko v Mariya Koryttseva – Bonderenko -3.5 games 1.73 at bet365 Neither player are exactly hard court specialist but Bonderenko is for me the better player overall and has been in good form recently both at this tournament and before. She reached the 3rd round at Wimbledon, a qtr final in Budapest and a semi final in Austria last week. She has shown no signs of fatigue from back to back tournaments in comfortably beating her two opponents so far in Baku. I’ve actually been quite impressed with Koryttseva's results so far this week, seeing off a couple of top 100 players in straight sets. However she rarely plays at WTA level and I think Bonderenko could be a step too far for her. 2 breaks should cover this. Vera Zvonareva v Anna Tatishvili – under 19.5 games 1.80 at bet365 The world number 3 is a top hard court player, and is looking strong in this tournament already. She had Kucova at 6-0, 3-0 before retired and was quick out the blocks in the first round when she too the first set 6-1. She’s generally very consistent on this surface and I can’t really recall much recently where she has lost and it could be called an upset. A defeat to Tatishvili would be just that, and I can’t see it happening. A relatively routine win for Zvonera should just about cover this game line, and given some of the set scores she has already racked up this week I think Zvonareva could progress easily. Galina Voskoboeva v Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova – Pavlyuchenkova -4.5 games 1.83 at bet365 Really had a good look at this match and considered many options including Voskobeva on the + handicap, but I’ve perhaps foolishly plumped for this one. Lost money backing the handicap for Pav in the first round after she put in one of the worst service performances you’ll ever see on the court. However despite that she still showed she had more than enough in other parts of her game to get her through despite all her service problems. Another tight set followed in the second round before things started to click eventually beating Bovina 6-4 6-0. I’m hoping the confidence gained from the second set vs Bovina will carry on into this match. She thrashed Voskobeva 6-1, 6-2 in their only previous match up so that shows if she’s in the right frame of mind then she could easily triumph here. Voskoboeva has had a great week so far herself and I recall her upsetting Kirilenko in Feb this year at an event in Thailiand which make me slighty wary, but I’m going to stick with this bet, although on small stakes. :hope

Yes, totally agree that constructive criticism is a good thing. Personally I put my bets up after I've taken them, it's the way I've always done it, but I like input as it helps others decide whether to follow them, which is what this forum is all about. My two losers today compound a poor couple of days for me. Glad to see a few winners for others though :ok

Re: Tennis - 18-24 July Hi guys, 1 pick for the ATP Hamburg today: YOUZHNY TO DEFEAT CILIC @ 1.57 on pinnaclesports/willhill Cilic is struggling with injuries this year and he was lucky to win two rounds here against Knittel and Kamke. Cilic has the big serve but Youzhny is a better player otherwise, especially on clay. The head to head is 5-1 to Youzhny.

I also took Bondarenko -3.5 games @ 1.72 bet365 yesterday. Today the handicap is -4.5 @ 1.72. In these days Bondarenko always make me profit. I trust her and expect another convincing win here.

Totally agree with you in this one. Youzhny always play well on german courts. Good occasions to bet on Čilić maybe arrive next week when he will play at home in Umag.

Re: Tennis - 18-24 July It's been a seriously poor couple of days for me so I'm really looking to hit the ground running today with two selections in total. My biggest stake today will be on Gael Monfils -2.5 games at 1.917 in his match with Gilles Simon, although it'll be nothing spectacular. I'm not normally one for trusting Monfils on lines but I think he'll get a good crack at Simon today. They've never met on clay and in their only match, Monfils retired injured. Simon's not a man I rate on the red brick. He's a counterpuncher who works best on quicker courts. He's beaten Sergiy Stakhovsky and Jarkko Nieminen to get here but against Nieminen, he struggled on serve and never really seemed convincing. His problem is that he can't hit through players on clay - he doesn't possess enough power - and I think Monfils will be happy to rally with him and at the same time, be able to hit past him. There's always a danger with Monfils that his head might not be on the money, but in the later stages of such an event, I expect him to stay focused. By some freak of rankings nature, he is world no.7, and he knows he needs to live up to that. 2.5 games can be covered in three if we go the distance here. Such is Simon's ability on clay, however, I expect it to be done before then. My second bet is perhaps a little riskier. Mikhail Youzhny -3 games is priced a shade over 2.00 and looks a nice bet on paper. Youzhny leads the H2H 5-1 and it should be 6-0. He blew a lead in Marseille early in the year. It seems he's got Cilic's number - he beat him on German clay last year - but hasn't covered this line in three of the five wins over Cilic. Those matches, however, were mainly played when Cilic was performing at a much higher level. He's regressed worryingly in the last 18 months, which one could argue is normal for someone who is just 22. His fightback against Tobias Kamke was admirable yesterday but a lot of that was down to inexperience from his German opponent. He's struggling on serve and clay doesn't play to his strengths. Youzhny is an all-court player who always seems to do well on clay in Germany. His wins so far have been fairly routine. He avoided a banana skin against Carlos Berlocq and then dispensed of Julian Reister easily enough. He has enough in his armoury to take care of Cilic and with a winning record, he'll come into this match confident. A better Cilic would make this bet non-sensical but his recent form is average, and I expect Youzhny to be too strong for him. Bets taken - Gael Monfils -2.5 games (v Gilles Simon) @ 1.917 with Pinnacle 4pts - Mikhail Youzhny -3 games AH (v Marin Cilic) @ 2.01 with Pinnacle 3pts

Re: Tennis - 18-24 July If i could have got that price on the Youzhny line i would have been all over it but wasn't on in time so going to leave it alone as the 10/11 doesn't interest me much. Nothing for me in Germany today. A couple of interesting matches in the States later though so may be back with one or two for them later on.

Re: Tennis - 18-24 July Unbelievable this Cilic-Youzhny tie-break in the decider:notworthy Youzhny 4-1 lead, then went to 4-6 down, Cilic serving. Cilic spoiled, and Youzhnyi made both points -> 7-6, and Youzhny converted matchpoint by hitting the band and the ball fell just behind the net letting Cilic stand humilliated.

Yep ;) What about the shot to save a match point when Cilic produced an epic serve of serves and had Youzhny stuck in a corner

True, I used the wording "Cilic spoiled" which is not appropriate - Cilic placed the ball in the corner, but Youzhny made a cracking forehand return that passed Cilic and landed in the opposite corner.

Re: Tennis - 18-24 July I am tempted to side with Muller in some way, shape or form but have decided against it. So, just the one for tonight aswell as having an interest in Fish still on the outright. Yen-Hsun Lu vs John Isner 2.5/5pts Under 22.5 games - 21/20 with Pinnacle This isn't a line that i would always be happy to take when Isner is playing but for this match the price on the line is just high enough for me to get involved. I faded Isner in a way when he played his first match of this tournament. When i gave reasons for that that i pointed out i was hoping he would go into the match a bit cold and that wasn't really the case, it was more Blake battling well and playing to a slightly higher standard at times than i was expecting. It was one of the best performances by Blake that i have seen in a long ime. Today i don't think Isner will be pushed as hard as that and therefore he come through a bit easier. In his first match he hit plenty of aces as usual and considering it was his first hard court match for a while i think he performed well. This bet is more about how poor Lu could be, rather than Isner having to play fantastic to get the job done in straights. Unlike the American, Lu has been pretty dire in terms of the service stats. His first serve percentage has been low all week and the amount of double faults he is producing should worry him. If he is giving openings to players like Bachinger and Matosevic when serving he will no doubt be pushed hard by Isner. His first round win wasn't ever really in doubt but that was because Bachinger didn't offer very much whilst in the next round he had to lose a set before upping his game, and even then it wasn't upped to a level much higher than what he was at. When at his best Lu can play to a good standard but with Isner at home here, Lu not offering much on serve and there not being many opportunities for the American to be broken, i think this could even be done in 20 games.

Never really in doubt after Lu was broke in the very first game. Wish i took the 21/10 on Muller now but i guess those tie breaks could have gone either way. +2.63 points for the night. +9.48 points for the week. Would be nice if Fish can get the job done just as easily as Isner ;)

Re: Tennis - 18-24 July Mardy Fish vs Somdev Devvarman. Under 21.5 games. 1.77 @ Pinnacle (6/10) Fish will demolish poor Devvarman. He did that twice last year on grass and having seen the Indian this week, he doesn't look like he can get any better than he was in those two one-sided matches against Fish who of course is a defending champion here, so additional responsibility to preform very well. Rajeev Ram > Ryan Harrison. 2.92 @ Pinnacle (4/10) Rajeev Ram had one week of fame couple years ago in Newport and this is turning into similar performance. He's been underdog in pretty every match he's played this week but has proved people wrong time after time. Beating Dimitrov and Hewitt is very good thing for confidence. Harrison with lots of talent but got this far only because Mallise helped him a lot with lazy performance. When you win like that there's time to for payback. Ram will be hard to break but Harisson is not that good and consistent on serve. I think if Ram can cover the handicap line which is 3 or 3.5 games depending which bookie you have, Rajeev can be good enough to win the match as well. Mikhail Youzhny > Gilles Simon. 2.08 @ Pinnacle (6/10) Youhzny leads their H2H series 7-1 and the only defeat he suffered was this year in Dubai. He was really poor that day and despite being out of shape and having some motivation problems he still could have snatched it. He's always playing very well in Germany and by the looks of it, really enjoys being out there. He saved couple match points against Cilic in 1/4finals and I tend never to go against player who have saved a m.p. during the tournament. Talking about match-ups, indoors (they played indoors on Friday) would suit Youhny more as he's got serve whilst Simon really can not serve and won only because Monfils was not patient enough to play long rallies and made too many rushed shots. Youzhny will love that kind of match and could do some damage with his fantastic backhand. Fernando Verdasco > Nicolas Almagro. 2.41 @ Pinnacle (5/10) Verdasco finally having some decent form and I think he's the player to beat this week considering what sort of talent is remaining out there. Almagro can be very good by can be incredibly poor. Verdasco if good, then he's good and he's really played well this week. Should be a close match and have to fancy Almagro to be the first one to crack in tight situations, Nicos more erratic and can play some loose points or games, that's a normal thing with him. Verdasco also has lost just once to Mugro in 4 matches and with current for have to fancy Nando in this one. Mariya Koryttseva > Vera Zvonareva. 6.50 @ Pinnacle (3/10) Zvonareva has been pretty poor this year and problems started when she split with her previous coach. Yesterday's 1/4 final against Anna Tatishvili was a real nightmare match and she has got little time to recover from that horrible performance. Koryttseva finlay has got rid off injuries and is playing great ball game. Zvonareva being rated at 1.10 is asking for big trouble. She's not in that kind of form and can lose, would not be a surprise. Koryttseva who naturally plays better on clay has beaten Zvonareva on hard courts in Istanbul in three sets couple years ago and I really believe she can do it again. Zvonareva has not been in great form and should have lost a set against Abduiramova in 2nd round. Koryttseva is yet to drop a set in three matches and is totally underrated for this match. Not having that!

Re: Tennis - 18-24 July One for Hamburg tomorrow..... Mikhail Youzhny vs Gilles Simon 2/5pts M. Youzhny to beat G. Simon - 2.07 with Pinnacle I think this is the value play, a play that has a good chance of coming in. I have no doubts that this could be a tight match, 2 close sets or the full 3. Youzhny dominates the head-to-head 7-1 and although they haven't played on clay yet that record is mightily impressive. Both have proved they are more than capable on the surface over the years but i feel that Youzhny just has the edge because he can make things happen more often, rather than getting bogged down in the long rallies that Simon likes to do. Against Cilic the Russian showed how good he can be on the pressure points and he will need to do that again here. I had this priced at 10/11 so at a nice price i am happy to side with Youzhny in the hope he will win what promises to be a closely fought encounter.

Re: Tennis - 18-24 July First post regarding Mardy Fish :@ Took handicap -5 tonight and was watching the match set point and 5-0 up in the second set, the handicap is well and truly covered. Mardy tanks for 3 sets to bring the set score to 6-3. Done a bit of googling regarding match fixing and find his name mentioned. :@:wall

Re: Tennis - 18-24 July

Yeah just forum speculation... Obviously when you're gambling you lose and you win, but watching the match and watching Mardy Fish just not close it out within the handicap is DUBIOUS.
Do you really think Mardy Fish is thinking about what the fcuking handicap is when he serves out a match? I doubt he's going, 'hold on a sec, if I win this game it means the -5 line comes in'. I really doubt it. And anyway, you'd have got a push. I think Mardy has got bigger, erm, fish to fry than deliberating over a handicap. And before you ask, yes, I watched the match. The obsession this board is creating with fixed matches is getting pretty poisonous, and tiring.

100% agree. Mardy is a top 10 player making plenty of cash from his talent so a few quid to be made from fixing matches and the risk of getting caught is not worth bothering for.

Re: Tennis - 18-24 July Haha, the whole fixing thing gets blatantly overused. Sometimes we(punters) are just wrong, make bad calls, get unlucky, whatever you want to call it. That's not to say it doesn't happen in tennis, look at Koellerer the nutjob.

It was just the slack serving when he was asked to serve it out that pissed me off to give Devverman the game 0-40 that made me :wall

Re: Tennis - 18-24 July I think it's foolish to suggest match fixing doesn't go on and I'd imagine that 90% of fixing involves handicaps/total games or some other markets rather than to actually win/lose the game. Far easier and more difficult to prove. However, this is nowhere near as prevalent as some people here seem to think and will happen very, very rarely (although I still believe Simon did earlier in the season, have never seen anything like that game!). For this reason, I'll never back a match involving him and I'd advise others to keep their own lists. The chances are Simon has never fixed a match in his life and I'm just paranoid (or talking out of my pocket) but at least now I can rest easy when he's playing. Basically, my point is, if you keep backing people and keep calling fix, you shouldn't be making the bets. If YOU have any doubts over a player, pick another match to bet on, there are loads daily. Anyway, to get back on track.... I've backed over 8.5 games 1st set @4/7 bet365 in Zvonareva v Koryttseva. I was impressed with Koryttseva against Bondarenko and she was hitting vey well, albeit profiting from some awful play from her opponent. She won't fear Zvonareva, having beaten her in their only previous meeting and I think she can stay with the Russian in the early exchanges. Zvonareva was poor against Tatishvili. She struggled on serve and gave away a lot of points and break opportunities. She's not quite firing at the moment and is maybe suffering from last year's exploits. I think she'll win eventually but we could see something similar to the Tatishvili match (7-5, 6-7, 6-1) where it stays close before Zvonareva runs away with the final set. There's a lot of scope with the 8.5 game line and it doesn't really matter who serves first, just looking to avoid double breaks...
