I normally avoid betting on semifinals but the plays are so clear I can't resist. There is a saying, ''put your money where your mouth is'' and this is exactly what I'm going to do. As per normal, I normally go into these matches with large stakes- 5 points. 1. Jo Wilfried Tsonga vs Novak Djokovic Selection: Noval Djokovic @ 1/2 with WilliamHill Reasoning: Its been a great run, an amazing run for Tsonga but this is where the fairy-tale ends. How can you see past a man in the form of his life? There has been talk of Djokovic not ''being the same'' on grass; obviously, grass is not his speciality but he is still streets ahead of Tsonga in both ability and rising to the occasion. I think Tsonga has exhausted his reserves against Federer. Its not easy to come back from two sets down against the best player in the world on grass and that victory alone is like winning a Slam for Tsonga so I don't thing another stirring upset is in order. Can Tsonga win a set or two? Yes. Will he? There is an equal chance he'll collapse in three and this is what prevents me from playing the over 39.5 game line, even though @ 4/5. WillHill this represents a better price. As a rule, I never play negative handicaps and so -3.5 games @ 10/11, Djokovic is not an option for me. 2. Andy Murray vs Nadal Selection: Nadal @1/2 Reasoning: A lot of sentimental money is riding on Murray which is why Nadal who should be no longer than 1/4 is priced 1/2. I mean, we are talking about Murray who defeats himself when things don't go his way. And against Nadal, very little will go any player's way. You've got to prise open Nadal's grip on the match and there should be no let up in pressure. Djokovic showed us how its done; can Murray do the same? No, not for a few years. I know punters on here like ''value bets'' but if a 1/100 chance has a 99.99% chance of winning that to me is excellent value. So please don't be put off by the odds on price, lump on!

Victoria Azarenka vs Petra Kvitova over 22.5 games 4/5 skybet these two players have done well to get this far azarenka has been quitely winning without many people realising and her opponent has been playing great on grass so this match will have twists and turns in it so it will be fairly tight there is a chance to reach their first grand slam final and it will make these players more determined to beat each other so i expect three sets
the match was always going to a third set with kvitova being erratic in the second set then loses it before playing great in the third

Re: Tennis - Wimbledon Sport Tennis Event Novak Djokovic - Jo W. Tsonga Selection Tsonga Strength 10/10 Date 01/07/2011 Bookmaker/Price Pinnacle Sports @ 3.00 Reasoning Tsonga leads the encounters with Djokovic 5-2 and he is a grass specialist(He is enjoying faster surfaces, like grass and hard court). He played the final at Queens and lost against Murray, but he was close to a win after winning the first set and losing at tie-break in the second one and then at a more comfortable difference for Murray in the third. This proves that his form is more constant is not just a burst of the moment. After winning against Federer in such a morale boosting manner, I don't think that people should be so ignorant as to bet on Djokovic with ease. Federer was, no matter what others may say, the best player from Wimbledon this year. He was a bit above Tsonga in that game(under 2 minutes games when he served in average), but Tsonga was slick enough to get those breaks when needed and then win his serve. That's what makes him so strong, the serve and his powerful forehand, maybe a down the line strong backhand from time to time too. Djokovic didn't impress me really in the matches I watched. He is not a grass court specialist and you cannot bet on him just because he is in top 3, cause he is not even close to what Federer is on the grass court. Federer is the master of this surface and still got a thrashing from an enthusiastic Tsonga. I know most people think Tsonga is inconsistent, or unreliable, but I think that he's proved solid form in the last couple of weeks both at Queens and Wimbledon and I also think he is aware of his chance to win The Wimbledon, once the no. 1 favorite is out, eliminated by himself. Maybe Nadal will prove to be a challenge in the final for him, but we'll wait and see. Until then, Tsonga to beat Djokovic. Good value again on this underrated player.

Re: Tennis - Wimbledon

The problem with Kvitova is that she lets you down in the most unexpected moments. She rolls in Brisbane, Aussie Open, Fed Cup and in Paris, then she implodes in Dubai round 1 against Ayumi Morita :lol and against Zahlavova-Strycova in the first match in Indian Wells :cry OK, we have Miami then and Petra destroys Lepchenko in first match, but then again she chokes against Pavlyuschenkova. After that we have Fed cup CZE BEL, Petra rolls again, and Madrid she wins title, then chokes again in French Open QF against Li-Na when leading 3-0 in the decider. It's true that she rolls again since then, but according to the law of Kvitova, she should choke again early in some tournament after Wimbledon. She is not supposed to win against Sharapova on Saturday, so the loss there cannot be considered a choke.
thanks for doing the research for me.A lot of people are going all kiddy on the czech mistress, shes been brilliant at Wimbledon, no doubt. The way she thrashed Wickmayer was impressive but I would go against her in the 1st tournament when the hard court season starts, dont even think twice, put the house on her to lose 1st round. She is that pathetic. I hate players who do that. The level of tennis she is playing she should never lose to rank outsiders in 1st rounds, her form coming into a match or personal relationship drama should never mean a thing, if you are that good a 1st round match against a rank outsider is a 1st round match, you should win. Maria Shrapova can look ugly in some matches especially after a lengthy break but she will still win the damn match. The day Serena retires will be a sad day for punters because she is the only woman out there who hates losing.to those who punt big they owe a lot of their fortunes to the youngest of the Williams sisters. The rest of the WTA is a joke betting wise.at 1st I used to think its fixing, stared avoiding players from countries that have mafia that like to influence their players to give away matches(I wont mention names of such countries) but even if the player is an american, australian, (wont put brits because there is no good female british player anyway:lolbesides I would bet against her all the same) women tennis players just lack a certain mentality that makes them to be complete sportspersons. They simply lack BALLS, well except Serena :lol Im not being sexist Look at samantha stosur last week.Yes she came across a tough opponent but to roll out in straight sets, comon:puke rant over:cigar

I agree with you on both bets. The Nole Tsonga match looks like a bet that kind of explodes in your face and the bookies have made the right call here. The 5-2 record doesnt mean anything at this level.Fact of the matter is Nole has lost one game alll year, for me that s the punch line. sometimes we look too much into how a player has been playing in the tournament and forget about matchups.I believe Fedex hadnt dropped a set until he lost to Tsonga. The Djoko tsonga match up is a classic bookie trap and with the odds shifting slightly in favour of Tsonga punters are being reeled in.I believe Tsonga can beat the Djoker but it might not be today.Like TBWD just said his final was on Wednesday, it could be light outs this afternoon. The Rafa murray matchup is simple.Always bet against a Brit when they play against a good player and this is the case.Rafa like Serena hates losing. He might be sweet and look very charming but he would rather die on the court than give murray a 1st grand slam. Im looking at the overs line in that matchup aswell as I think Murray can at least keep it close. I might just pull the trigger on overs in both matches though I cant rule out Tsonga rolling over:\

Re: Tennis - Wimbledon

It's quite funny once again listening to likes of Sue Barker bigging up Andy again before a semi against Nadal, or against any top three player that isn't physically wrecked. They just never seem to learn, regardless of how many times he gets shown up in these matches. When they give him no hope he tends to slightly exceed expectations but when there's expectation - angst ridden Andy shows up WTA style with fluffy ground-strokes and a dodgy serve. -3.5 should be a gift. In reality Murray has shown nothing to suggest he's any different from last year or the year before. Rafa will give him another spanking and Del Potro will be looked back on as his hardest match of the tourney. He has the raw power to unsettle Nadal unlike no other player. Fed wouldn't have been much of an obstacle in the final either for Nadal IMO. Don't know why pundits just keep blindly backing him even when it's obvious the grass courts are so slow and the ball at the French Open was one of the reasons he looked so invigorated at that tournament.
:lol:lol:lol:clap:clap:clap:clapIts statements like this that make me more confident that the Nadal outright is the right call.I like it when the british public influence the markets, everyone is hoping for a fairytale story at SW19 but there might not be a new winner this year. Im thinking of going heavily against David Haye tomorrow when all the Brits lump on Haye now till tomorrow night. Then again I wouldnt be surprised if Murray nicked it today as rafa has dropped a level or 2, not that it matters because He is rafa!

Re: Tennis - Wimbledon Although murray has shown there is nothing to suggest he's any different from last year or the year before as slider24 says. The opposite is true of Nadal, i think this year, unlike any other Nadal has shown an air of vunerability i know there was an initial injury concern but even prior to that he was dropping sets at queens that he wouldn't normally. Nadalhas only dropped 2 sets in this years tournament but then so has Murray. I am not pro Murray at all but don't think Nadal is at the top of his game and i think unlike previous opponents Murray is good enough to make Nadal have to Play a little better than he has had to upto now thus leading me to think Murray will win as he will make Nadal lose. regards fluffnut

Re: Tennis - Wimbledon Tsonga vs Djokovic Tsonga has been playing really really well since queens. He narowly missed taking the cup. He served bombs against federer. Federer himself mentioned that he never got a loot at tsonga's serve after the first set. Although he played a five setter, he certainly will be fresh as the match wasn't much of a slog struggle. It was a quick five setter with extraordinary quality. Good enough to overcome Roger from 2 sets down. Also roger played very well. The quality was better than the queens final. Novak is overrated on grass. On clay and hard he has the weapons and can match and better anyone. He played a frustrated match against baghdatis and his frustration was very evident in his match against Tomic which would easily have been a 5 setter. Novak got broken several times and in a silly way. He cant quite match solid grass courters from the baseline because grass game depends heavily on slices and pace (or the variation of it). That is why he couldnt convincingly beat baghdatis or tomic. He wont get a look at tsonga s serve today and he will be broken several times. Clearly, going by the matches so far, his serve isn't great on grass. Not many aces or unreturnables. It would be a blinder to miss tsonga against novak. Also Last year, Novak lost to who???? Berdych! and who was he? he was the man who beat federer. HUUUUUUUUUUGE on tsonga!!! I m risking making a complete fool of myself though. But heyy, u r only so good as ur previous match. Tsonga in 3 sets for me!

Re: Tennis - Wimbledon Nadal vs Murray Nadal is a champion and let me say that again. Nadal is a great champion. But he does use cheap tricks. He should have lost against del potro. If he could move and play when he had had set points, he was CLEARLY good to play the first set breaker. He made del potro wait 8-9 minutes. Whatever the reason, he should have played that breaker and THEN gone on to treatment. Or else he should have simply surrendered the set. Would have been a way different match had Del Potro gone on to win the first set imho.. Last year he did the same with Philipp Petzchner .. Tennis gods would have to punish nadal for his bad karma sometime!! Murray is fitter meaner and more experienced. He will frustrate nadal and take this in 4 sets. All this depends a good deal on Murray serving well and returning better. He will take this one. Would be sweet if it happens in straight sets.

Re: Tennis - Wimbledon Hi I agree with the last poster. I'm having a small double on Tsonga and Murray. Both are in the form of their life. Both had a great Queens and that has been carried forwards in this tournament. Novak reminds me in some ways of Lendl-who struggled manfully with an ill-suited grass court game. The old Nadal managed to find a way with his massive power game but he is currently injured (probably worse than appears in the media!) having to get Local anaesthetic jabs to play-if it wasn't a grand slam he would prob scratch. For once I think the bookies have things completely the wrong way round. If Murray and Tsonga serve well they win. Tsonga may well be 3 sets, perhaps even a 6-2 in one set. Murray 3-1 I know I may well be shot down for this but on purely current form Murray and Tsonga are the most in form and Murray is playing in a much better more assertive way and becoming fully focused. You don't play the trick shot in a grand slam like he did the other day with a very cheeky half volley unless you are absolutely seeing the ball like a football- Annoyingly I can't watch much of the games due to work. damn

Re: Tennis - Wimbledon Late bet, but hopefully the correct the one. - Rafael Nadal -3.5 games (v Andy Murray) @ 2.14 with Betfair flat stake This bet has been done to death, but I'll throw my weight behind it, especially since I had Murray down as an outright to win this event. All things considered, I think Nadal's just going to be too strong too him. It's probably been further emphasised in my mind by the hip flexor injury Murray picked up. I think it'll restrict him a little bit. But the main crux of it is Nadal. I thought he'd be fatigued by Roland Garros but it's gone the opposite way. He's been galvanised by it. He seems hugely motivated, but moreover he's content. He spoken about how he likes living in a big house for a week and being with his family and friends. Small things make a huge difference in tennis. He walks on to this court a happy man, at ease with life. He knows he can beat Murray, he's got the tools to dismantle his serve, spar from the back and get to his drop shots. He is one of, if not, the greatest players this game has ever seen, and previously I'd been banking on him coming here a little off-colour. That's not the case. He's an exceptional grass court player, the surface plays to his strengths these days. Murray's a great player too, and he's probably the second best player in this field, but that won't be enough today. Forget the media and UK hype; Murray can deal with that. What he can't deal with is the exceptional talent, competitiveness and aura of Nadal. He won't be able to overcome that unless Nadal's game drops, and I can't see that happening. As stated by Psycho first and many people after that, -3.5 games is not a big line to overcome. He can drop a set, or even two, and still cover this. :hope

Re: Tennis - Wimbledon Djokovic is solid, played some great passing shots. However, Tsonga has been so flat since he was broken in that first set that the old consistency debate about him will come up again. He's let his opponent get in a rhythm. There have been some fantastic points played between the pair, diving all over the court!

Semifinal's selections... Rafael Nadal -3.5 v Andy Murray. 1.92 @ Pinnacle (6/10) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga > Novak Djokovic. 3.02 @ Pinnacle (4/10)
very tiny profit on these two. Tsonga was very good until serving for the first set. Then checked out and was nowhere to be found for almost two sets. Djokovic let him back in the match but the outcome was never in doubt anyway. Rafa did the job as expected and is clear favorite to win on Sunday as well. Apart the first set he was awesome today. The best I've seen him play for some time and that against Murray.

- Jo-Wilfried Tsonga +4 games AH (v Novak Djokovic) @ 1.80 with Pinnacle flat stake LOSS - Rafael Nadal -3.5 games (v Andy Murray) @ 2.14 with Betfair flat stake WIN
Minimal profit. I thought Tsonga always looked a tad jaded and the second set was a total killer. If he'd served out the first, the line would have stood more chance, but Djokovic stepped his level up and Tsonga couldn't find his best tennis, especially his serve. Nadal was insanely good today, Murray just can't find the level consistently to deal with him over five sets on grass. Psycho: you're sitting pretty right now with that 2.25 on the outright. In that form, I just can't see Djokovic beating him. We'll see what the bookies bring for that one. Should be an immense final.

Re: Tennis - Wimbledon Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djokovic 3pts R. Nadal (-3.5 games) to beat N. Djokovic - 5/4 with Paddy Power Took too long in deciding what to do here and missed the 6/4 when it drifted out but i am still very happy to take the 5/4 on offer. Nadal was brilliant today against Murray from the 2nd set onwards. Yes, the Scot had a chance to take control of that set but once he missed it Nadal never looked back. The Spaniard wore him down, played the big points well and produced the type shots he shows when he is at his best. In fact, in that 1st set he didn't do a great deal wrong. I am still not fully convinced by Djokovic at this tournament. He gave Tsonga opportunities to get back into the match when the big man produced flashes of his best form and i still feel he is getting far too irritated far too often. Yes, he has been in great for this year but to me he has looked drained at times at Wimbledon and that is no good when coming up against Nadal. Basically, i expect Nadal to win and if producing form like he showed against Murray he will do it well. This can be covered even if the match goes to 5 sets so i am happy to get on at a nice price.
