Re: Tennis - January 31 - February 6

Just realised I put my last post in this forum rather than next week's one. Any chance of it being moved Atko. It's not entirely relevant or have any great interest to read but should be in next week's. This Robredo Giraldo match just sums up this week. Twists and turns when you least expect it.
That's it done bud. Giraldo match, really hoping Santi pulls through. Robredo was in control and blew it, still would expect him to come through. Highlights of this match are the bonnie Chilean girls the camera keeps panning too and the groovy music at the changeovers.

Strange. Now this 6th game of 2nd set Robredo-Giraldo at 15-30 Robredo serving Robredo placed a ball in the court' date=' Giraldo not taking it, but Robredo dived into the net while hitting the ball. Is'nt there a rule that player touching the net loses the point? Despite this , robredo got the point and the score was 30-30 after that.[/quote'] Aye that was strange, but I suspect it was because the point was well and truly completed before Tommy hit the net. Giraldo had no chance of getting it.

Because he could have placed the ball only risking the net touch, and it went wrong way. But I have said I am not that great specialist in tennis rules.

However, the point was over, the ball was dead when Robredo hit the net, so that may have made a difference. Either that or poor Carlos Bernades forgot after he'd moved his fat ass off the umpire's chair to see if Tommy was okay :rollin

Re: Tennis - January 31 - February 6 Hopefully Giraldo can finish it off now, I have a solid stake on him. And yes, the point should be yours in that case. If I remember correctly, there was a similar situation in the Schiavone-Kuznetsova epic when Schiavone chased a drop shot successfully (that was on break point), but Kuznetsova got the point (Schiavone touched the net) even though she had no chance of getting it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nc9UK_UFRH4&feature=related Watch at 2:40

My fear is that Giraldo will get tight serving for the title. Fingers crossed he doesn't!

- Marin Cilic to win Zagreb each way at 3.25 with Stan James (4/10) LOSS - Lukas Lacko to win Zagreb each way at 29.00 with Stan James (1/10) LOSS - Thomaz Bellucci to win Santiago each way at 6.00 with Stan James (2/10) LOSS - Santiago Giraldo to win Santiago each way at 15.00 with Stan James (1/10) PLACED - Kevin Anderson to win Johannesburg each way at 5.00 with Stan James (3/10) WIN - Janko Tipsarevic to win Johannesburg each way at 5.00 with Stan James (3/10) LOSS
In Zagreb, Cilic went out early doors to Mayer and never really looked comfortable on the surface. Lacko also dropped out in R2, taking a set off Garcia-Lopez but never really looking threatening. Very surprised to see Dodig win a tournament but he benefitted from being at home ;) In Santiago, Bellucci crashed out in the quarters to Fognini, never really looking in full flight, but Giraldo was outstanding, making the final and netting a 7.50 payout. Robredo's experience told in the final, but I'm not complaining. Giraldo can be a big player if he improves his footwork and his backhand, because his forehand is a real weapon. Jo'burg was a pretty unpredictable event too, with Tipsarevic losing to Huta Galung in R1 - that man has mental issues - and Devvarman making the final :eek Anderson won with a decent stake at good odds of 5.00, which turned a poor week into quite a nice one indeed. Well done to all 'profiteerers' this week, a tough time in the calendar with so many variables, but I think we came out alright in the end :ok
