After a cracking test series South Africa and India now do battle in a twenty20 match followed by a 5 match ODI series. All done and dusted in 2 weeks which is exactly how I like it. It should be an entertaining couple of weeks too with the match timings being spot on for those of us in the UK. As with the tests, it's all live on Sky. Schedule:

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International SA vs India T20: Sehwag and Gambhir out, two important man for India but Dhoni and Tendulkar should make some problems to SA. SA favourite in my opinion... 1.90 in Sportingbet looks good to me.

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International Just a quick note, Tendulkar doesn't play international T20 so even though India are short of openers for this game, Id be surprised if he was picked. I'll be back a little later with some match bets.

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International Not looking to invest too much into the only T20 on this tour as we all know the game is an unpredictable one at the best of times. 2pts - Top India Bowler: R Ashwin - 7/2 (bluesquare) Without knowing with certainty the composition of the Indian side this could be perceived as a little risky however there is plenty of talk about India giving the likes of Zaheer and Harbhajan a rest after being involved in the tough test series. So with that in mind this price immediately sticks out. For anyone who has watched the IPL over the last few years will know that Ashwin is an excellent T20 bowler who has the knack of picking up wickets. He has an element of mystery to him with the carrom ball in his armour and the South African guys like Amla, Van Wyk, Ingram won't have faced him so may struggle to pick him. Furthermore this ground is a football ground and the pitch has not been laid long, the word is that it will be slow and low which will suit Ashwin perfectly. With India's main bowlers likely to be missing I'm happy to take a punt on R Ashwin to take the most wickets for India here.

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International I'm going with two in this twenty20 match. 6pts South Africa Over 4.5 6's 5/6 Ladbrokes 6pts India Over 4.5 6's 8/11 Ladbrokes These lines look way too low for me. This match is being played on a football ground and the straight boundaries here look shorter than my back garden :loon. The way this match has been set up it's pretty much Makhaya Ntini's testimonial match with music and fireworks and all sorts not to mention a full house. I'd hazard a guess at saying some of the boundaries here are 50 yards or thereabouts. The wicket might be playing a bit low by all accounts as it's a new wicket but even with a low wicket there's enough firepower in these sides to clear a 50 yard rope 5 times each. Even the square boundaries aren't going to be huge. South Africa have the likes of AB de Villiers, JP Duminy and David Miller capable of walloping a big ball while India's entire lineup can hit a big ball. There's no Steyn or Morkel for India to worry about and no Zaheer or Harbhajan for SA to worry about. This should be a big hitting game and I'm confident both sides will nail 5 6's each in this match.

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International Another series I'll be paper-trailing. A few interest me in this T20. 6pts R Ashwin (Player Performance) - 22 & Over @ 5/6 Bet365 Ashwin is a Twenty20 general and 22 points in this match is easily do-able for a guy of his talent. I don't really need to go into any further detail because Westy above has effectively hit the nail on the head. He is definitely capable of getting two wickets in this match which is expected to play slow and with an Indian team more than likely resting Zaheer, Sreeshanth and Harbhajan, wickets should be easier to come by. 5pts Total Match 6's - 11 or More @ 4/5 ExtraBet A massive crowd of over 50,000 people is expected to be present a this Twenty20 which is being held at a football stadium that many will recognise from the 2010 World Cup. The boundaries are very short here and apparently the straight boundary is one of the shortest on the south continent. Boundaries may be the Order of the Day and I think and this line will be cleared without too much fuss with a few fairly big hitters expected to line up. Those two have taken me the best part of an hour to write up so apologies for the lateness. I can't really pick a winner in this one so I shall steer well clear of any outright lines. Shall be interesting viewing.

Great work mate! :notworthy While I was sweating away with 3 balls to go and India's 6's tally only on 4... I'm sure you knew old Rusty would chuck a nice pie down for Raina!! Good call on the overs too Bigmac but unlucky with ashwin.. 2pts shy?:wall

I know, Raina got out with the last ball of the Indian innings which meant Ashwin didn't actually get a chance to bat :@ Go into the ODI series -2.00 after the Twenty20 despite the sixes coming in. Rather annoying that. Still, well done Kev. Looking forward to what should be a very good ODI series.

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International Two fantastic calls in the T20 Kev backed up with macs sixes call. Well done to both. Ashwin didn't oblige for myself so I'm -2pts coming into the ODIs. Struglling to pick out winners at the moment so hopefully can have a change of fortune in the ODIs. Couple of outrights to begin with. 1pt - SA to win the series 3-2 - 9/4 (sportingbet) 1pt - India to win the series 3-2 - 13/5 (sportingbet) The reason for this bet is quite obvious, I feel the series is a tough one to call and looking at both teams, there is very little between them. For India they are missing Gambhir, Sehwag and possibly Zaheer so they are a little below full strength however they have good squad depth and have been playing without a lot of first teamers throughout the season without showing signs of weakness. SA also are missing Kallis and have a couple of guys in Ingram, Miller and Du Plessis who I'm not too familiar with. Nevertheless in their own conditions they will always be a competitive unit. I can't see either side romping home in a 4-1 or 5-0 series win so the 3-2 for both teams seems the call in what should prove to be a 50:50 series.

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International And another. 1pt - Virat Kohli Top Indian Batsman - 13/2 (Sportingbet) This is a tough market in my opinion with a lot of batsman who could potentially take nevertheless I feel this price represents value. Additionally it is based on the liklihood of Sachin Tendulkar missing a few games in the series as India look to preserve him for the World Cup next month (wow it has come around quick). Kohli has established himself as India's number 3 with some excellent performances in the last few months and I feel he can continue it here. He has all the shots in the book and I feel he has the ability to combat the short ball which will be very handy on these south african wickets. With Murali Vijay failing to set the world alight in his short career so far, Tendulkar unlikely to play all 5 matches, the hit and miss form of Yuvraj Singh, I feel that is enough reason to back Kohli to take this m:cowarket from the number 3 slot.

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International I can't for the life of me confidently call who will win this series so I am not even going to call it. I'm staying away from all outright series betting. It's just too close for me. Onto the first ODI then: 5pts - India +2.5 Wickets/12.5 Runs @ 5/6 Sportingbet I don't think India are that bad a One-Day outfit to be this price on this handicap. Yes South African conditions aren't ideal for them but the players they have at their disposal have a lot of quality and alot of them will be looking to impress ahead of the imminent World Cup. I was worried about their bowling attack ahead of the test series because without Zaheer it looked very weak to me, but for the ODI series, they will probably line up with Zaheer, Nehra, Ashwin & Harbhajan with Yuvraj and Raina also more than capable of sending a few down. There's enough there to cause most teams problems and I think they'll win this 1st ODI. I am more than willing to back them at this price with a little cover for a close match too. I don't like any of the Player Performance markets at Bet365 except one: JP Duminy Player Performance Pts - 33 & Over. It's so high risk though that I am not even sure if I want to call it. I'm going to go and play Black-Ops for a couple of hours, if after that time I decide I want it, then you'll see a write up on it. If not then I'm not convinced. Good luck all :hope

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International 2 series outrights for me. 4pts India to win ODI Series 5/4 Ladbrokes I think India are good value to win this ODI series. Recently South Africa have struggled to a narrow 3-2 win against Pakistan in an ODI series and I think they'll struggle here too. The simple reason why I think that is they can't play spin. It's ok in test matches playing on seaming wickets to suit your attack although even that didn't do them any good. In ODI's with big crowds in good wickets are prepared and SA's inability to play spin is going to be a big part of this series as MSD has a plethora of spin options at his disposal. With the bat, India have some huge hitting batsmen and some wonderful touch players too. All those can player around the greatest of them all - Tendulkar. South Africa have a massive void to fill in their side in Jacques Kallis. Not only is he a world class reliable ODI batsman but he's a handy bowler too. SA almost need 2 players to replace him. I don't think they've got them. They've got a quick pace attack but most of the Indians will have played against them either in the test series earlier this month or in the IPL. Time and time again we see SA struggle against spin and that will be the deciding factor in India winning this series for me. 2pts S.Tendulkar Top India Series Batsman 5/2 VC I like Sachin here. With Sehwag and Gambhir out of this series, the little master will open up and he can be devastating in that role. He's already filled his boots in the test series out here so he could go bonkers in the ODI's. Sachin is still as good an ODI batsman as there is even though he's not explosive and big hitting and his role will be to be the one the bigger hitters all bat around. Sachin made 326 runs in the test series at an average of 81.50 with 2 tons so he's in supremely good nick coming in here. I don't think Vijay will hang around long enough to be a factor. Kohli is class but with the role he has I think Sachin will lead the Indian run charts when this series is done and dusted.

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International 3 for the opening match. 4pts India Most 6's 6/5 VC I think this is a pretty decent price on the tourists to win the 6's match here. A quick look down the batting orders and this is a no contest really. India have massive hitters of a cricket ball right the way down their order, even as far down as Zaheer at 9 in a way and they are all natural hitters. South Africa aren't as big hitters. Smith can hit and de Villiers can. The rest have to slog to hit big 6's. South Africa have lost the last 4 6's match at Kingsmead in ODI's and a couple of them weren't close either. South Africa won the 6's battle in the twenty20 which I guess may have swayed these prices but Morne van Wyk hit 5 of South Africa's 7 6's that day and he's nowhere to be seen here. I think this is a cracking price on India. For me the only danger is a repeat of India's 91 all out last time they played an ODI here but they're a better side now and I don't see that happening again. I'm happy to be on at this price. 3pts J.Botha's Performance Pts - 30&Over Evs Bet365 Points are scored as follows: 1pt per run, 10pts per catch & 20pts per wicket. Johan Botha's target here is quite low. He's a decent ODI bowler and ok this wicket and atmosphere may favour the quicks but there's always space for a spinner in ODI cricket. With Imran Tahir in the squad it may be that this wicket shows a bit more for the spinners than normal. Botha hasn't pulled up any trees on this ground in ODI's but he's taken wickets in 2 of the 3 matches he's played here. It's not a certainty that we need a wicket anyway as he's a capable batsman at this level and will field close to the bat so is always a possible for a hat trick. He's a clever bowler though so I see no reason why he can't bag a wicket and cover this with catches and runs. At even money I'll take the SA vice captain here. 1pt ew Y.Pathan Top India Batsman 10/1 Coral (1/5 1,2,3) Yusuf Pathan hit a decent ton under real pressure in the ODI series with New Zealand in a match where he came of age in ODI cricket. With the chance of the ball doing a bit early doors here there's a chance that the top order might go cheaply allowing Pathan to come in and play a similar innings to that one against NZ. It looks like Pathan is going to be down to come in ahead of Dhoni which would give this bet a chance. With the powerplays at the end of an innings these days someone like Pathan should never really be 10/1 so with the ew terms I'll take him here.

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International South Africa v India - 1st ODI - Highest 1st 15 Overs Total South Africa @ 4/5 5 points will hill I think this is a vital toss for Smith to have won. The pitch has good bounce but is expected to zip around under lights for india's innings. It is a hot sunny day, Smith and Amla are capable of going on a boundary fest with the form they are particularly Amla. Ingram and AB are no slouches either if there are early inroads. This wicket should suit Morkel down to a tea and I expect him and Steyn to make full use of the lights, new ball and pitch to take early wickets and stifle the Indian top order. 4 points S.Africa win @ 8/11 Hills As mentioned above, combined with the fact that this is obviously a seamer friendly wicket. Objectively speaking S.Africa have the better pacemen (they are playing 4 to Indias 3) and the better batsmen to bat on this sort of wicket with the extra bounce. The toss just underlined this bet for me.

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International Doesnt look like a very good day in here for this thread. One thing I hate about this betting lark is when I like the look of something but am too much a pussy to back it. That Duminy bet sailed in but the bet I actually called was so wrong its almost embarassing :wall Congrats Otter :clap

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International Thanks bigmac - or should I say shaun pollock; his pitch report was spot on and the south africans team selection was pretty emphatic. I personally would like to see how tahir goes at this level, I reckon he will give them an added dimension.

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International Two ahead of this one tomorow. May add another later, I shall deliberate over it. In the meantime: 4pts South Africa to Make Highest 15 Over Total @ 5/6 Skybet Was contemplating taking this one in the first ODI but thought I'd see how it went before choosing again. SA won this by 29 runs in the last match and looking at their top orders, I fully expect them to win it again. Smith can hit a ball, he needs no introducing, Amla looked in imperious touch yesterday. It was almost like he knew where Nehra would bowl before Nehra knew himself. De Villiers is just, De Villiers and Duminy seems to be a ODI specialist. Now those players all have quality in abundance as you know, but what makes this line appealing is the fact that they are all quick scorers as well. SA raced to 82 within 15 overs the other day which is a pretty impressive scoring rate. On top of this, India's bowling attack looks very thin especially if Nehra produces what he produced in the 1st match (6 overs, 1-61). Confident this will come in 6pts Dale Steyn (Player Performance) @ 5/6 Bet365 Steyn needs two wickets for this to come in which is an easy feat considering the form he's in. Every single time SA play I am wary of picking Steyn on a Performance bet because his line is always so damn high. Yet he goes and clears it every single time taking wicket after fxcking wicket. He will get the new ball tomorow and will steam in against touchy Indian batsmen fighting for their places ahead of the WC. If it comes to it, he can hold the willow too and score a few runs down the order. For the first time I'm actually going to bold and back him so I'm hoping he doesn't fail this one time.

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International South Africa v India - 2nd ODI - Total Match Sixes Under (8.5) @ 5/6 9 points - will hill This line is simply way too high. Trawling through the last 5 years worth of ODI's here (there's a lot because of the Champions Trophy in2009) this line wasnt cleared. The weather is cloudy with swing predicted, which should help the bowlers and in addition India are batting first which gives S.Africa perfect opportunity to use their rather excellent pacemen on some Indian batsmen like Rohit, Vijay and Yuvraj who did not relish fast bowling in the last match. Raina and Yuvraj are obvious threats for India but without Sehwag this line up looks less powerful especially considering the conditions and playing away from home. S.Africa too have some 6 hitters, but most of their batsmen prefer 4's to going over the top such as Amla. I'm hoping S.Africa will not have too big a total to chase down and then can manouvre the ball around. One extra insurance is that showers are forecast so possible shortened game.

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International Good luck guys. With the rain forecast I've not looked too much into this. My usual bet at the Bullring is the overs on 6's but if it's a shortened match that will be voided so it's not worth the risk really. I've got 2 outrights which can hopefully make a bit of a comeback today.

Both of these sailed in thankfully which makes me +8.32 for the day and +3.32 for the series. Didn't expect India to win this one. Sets up the remainder of the series very nicely. Nice shout on the sixes too Otter, that line was ridiculously high.

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International Time for me to get involved in this series. 2 pts Top SA Batsmen - AB De Villiers - 4/1 E/W Coral 5pts Performace Points - AB De Villiers 45 and over -5/6 Bet365 Combined both into one write up. One of the best batsmesn in all formats here and i fancy him to get a good score here tomorrow. Looking back at the last 3 matches at Cape Town, he' scored 121, 45 and 80 runs all in the one day format so loves this ground. Also with him behind the stumps he could well get a few catches and the odd stumpings especially with the number of wickets falling lately. Im pretty happy to go for this.

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International 3 for me this afternoon. 4pts South Africa Highest 1st 15 overs 5/6 Totesport South Africa have won both the 15 overs tussles so far and I think they'll make it a hat trick tonight. Hashim Amla is in sublime form and Graeme Smith scores quickly while he's in. Ingram isn't the quickest at 3 but there's plenty of scoring potential for South Africa as Ashish Nehra has been smashed all around the country so far. Murali Vijay doesn't look like he can buy a run at the top of the order for India and with Sachin on his way home Virat Kohli looks like opening which is a role he's not accustomed to and that could slow up an Indian run rate which will struggle anyway with the exceptional form that Lonwabo Tsotobe is in. South Africa have won the 15 overs batting 1st and 2nd in the series so far so any changes in the conditions isn't necessarily a problem and at 5/6 I'm happy to be on SA to lead through 15. 3pts AB de Villiers' Performance Pts - 45&Over 5/6 Bet365 Points are scored as follows: 1pt per run, 10pts per catch & 25pts per stumping. Wales has covered most of my thoughts above. AB has been in sublime form with the bat in ODI's at Newlands recently. He averages 50.57 with the bat on this ground in ODI's with his last two knocks here being 80 and 121. He's also made a 70 odd in the series already so we know he's in ultra good form with the bat following on from a good test series. It's usually a good batting track at Newlands and South Africa look like playing 2 spinners in this game so a stumping can't be ruled out of the equation. With Steyn, Tsotsobe and Morkel around catches behind are always in play but even an average day with the bat covers this so I'm happy to take the SA keeper here. 1pt ew Y.Pathan Top India Batsman 10/1 Coral (1/5 1,2,3) This India batting line up hasn't really fired in this series at all so far and if that trend continues here then Yusuf Pathan down the order could find himself in a good position to top score. Unlike in the first ODI when I backed him, Yusuf looks more likely to play here with Sachin on his way home and Parthiv not yet int he country. One thing we do know is that the boundaries aren't big enough to contain the heavy hitting all rounder if he gets himself in. There's still one or two of this Indian line up well out of form so at 10/1 I'll take Yusuf to do a bit of damage down the order.

Re: Cricket: South Africa vs India - ODI Series + Twenty20 International Great stuff Wales. We'll count ourselves a wee bit fortunate with de Villiers but fcuk em, they've had enough lucky escapes off us in the past. Decent day for me puts me +18.21 overall with the Sachin outright loss taken off. I'm now on India for either of the next two matches at 6/5 so it's looking good. Roll on Friday :tongue2.
