Division got a reaction from Pick7 in New to Football Betting
I would second Bet365 as the best bookmaker to start off with and they will double your first deposit up to £200 so it would be good if you can maximize this as its a one time only deal. They also give you a free £50 bet in play on some games from time to time.
As you are betting for a bit of fun I won't recommend that you have multiple bookies to get the best prices but if some day you decide to do that then use PayPal to move money easily between bookmakers. You can also take advantage of a few bookmakers signup bonuses to decrease your risk of betting with your own money.
Bankroll management is important i.e. You will go on a run of losing bets and you need to bet a small enough percentage of your betting funds so this bad run won't empty your account. Generally speaking if you are betting on football, usually at odds of close to evens then simply betting 5% of your betting funds is a solid approach.
When people are starting out they want to win a lot of money from a small amount bet (similar to the lottery) and this usually ends badly. If you really want to have a bit of fun and not deposit more than your initial deposit then your best chance of doing this is to bet singles (instead of accumulators).
More advanced topics involve calculating and finding value but that is a good bit in the future for you. For now just keep a record of all your bets and see where you are losing the most money and gradually eliminate these bets.
Good luck. Never bet what you are not willing to lose. There is no such thing as a sure thing.

Division got a reaction from thecurlyone1 in Betting Preview Template
I'm putting together a betting preview template and would value any input. I put something together quickly as I want to get as much input as possible so this is a rough idea what I am considering.
What do you like (or not)? What would you add to it?
-----------
Game & League:
-
How is each team performing over the season?
(Give a small overview e.g. league placing, are they over performing relative to expectations? Are they trying to win the league or are they expected to finish mid table? Ect)
-
What is the head to head record?
(Have these teams played each other relatively recently? What was the result and how did that game play out? Who was the better team in that game? Was the result fair?)
-
How have each team done against similar opponents?
Identify a couple of teams that are similar to the home team in standard and playing style and give a quick review of how the away team did against these two teams. Do the same for the other team. Can you identify a trend from these results?
-
What are the characteristics of each team?
Is the home team a very defensive team or do they like to attack? Do they usually have most of the possession in their games? Do they like to play long balls up to a target man or are they more of a passing team? What about the away team?
-
How has each team played in their previous four games?
(Give results and a small bit of insight into each game and identify they are in good form or bad form relative to their overall season form)
-
What tactics will each team employ in this game?
Will one team try to play for a draw? Is one team far superior to the other and expected to dominate the game? What can each team do to improve their chances of winning? Do you expect a lot of goals in this game? What formation do you expect each team to start with? Ect.
-
Who are the most important players on each team?
Is there a striker that is crucial to his team? A central defender who is the leader of the team? A tricky wingback that will be crucial to his teams chances? Any important injuries or suspensions? Ect.

Division got a reaction from StevieDay1983 in League of Ireland > Jun 26th
I never bet player markets as I haven't found a reliable way to price them up and the handicap markets don't have any appeal to me in this one.
It took a while to try to find a bit of value on this game as I don't like the long shot bets from a bankroll growth perspective but I'm on this one:
Irish Premier Division
Dundalk v Galway
Bet: A Goal In Both Halves @ 1.5 Ladbrokes
Estimated Win Percentage: 74%

Division reacted to Tiffy in Champions League Final > Jun 3rd
I have just spent my valuable lunch break reading this thread, hoping to get a selection that I liked the look of.
Instead, it's descended into a bitch fest!
FFS, come on you lot, I haven't got a clue on tonight, and was hoping that you lot, ( who have been fairly reliable all season) would use your superior knowledge to help my threadbare betting bank look a bit healthier.
Result seems to hard to predict, what about goals/BTTS.
RM Most corners?
Stop bitching & start getting back to the serious stuff.

If this was being played in Amsterdam I would be all over Ajax at the prices. Their record is quite poor away from home though, so a little caution may be the way to go. Ajax +1 is currently at 1.85, that's almost tempting me.

Everyone is bad mouthing Arsenal, but I think you have to give Palace a lot of credit. Game plan and tactics were brilliant. Work rate excellent. Palace are a decent side. They just had a terrible time under Pardew. It's amazing to see Zaha coming on. He has 9 assists this season. AT 12.5million he was Fergie's gift to Moyes (who wouldn't know talent if it hit him on the forehead), who never played him. It's a pity that Allerdyce crapped the bed at England, because I think they could have done things. Southgate, come on, wet behind the ears.
I think the Man United v Chelsea game will be interesting for the following reasons...
1) Mourinho lost twice to Chelsea this season. Shown up in the league game. It has to be burning him.
2) He would love to throw a spnner in their Championship ambitions, Especially to those guys that betrayed him last season.
3) He needs to see how far Man United are off the pace, are they able to play with these guys ?
I don't think you can make a bet, until you see the Thursday night Europa. If United score early, he will take players off, and close up. That game determines a lot about the starting 11 on Sunday.
Again I go with the HT/FT Spurs win over Bournemouth. At the moment no team is playing better than Spurs. They are dominant at home, and opponents cannot stop/contain their wingbacks / fullbacks. Bournemouth have taken 6 points out of a possible 30, and I think their troubles continue.
I think the 1.75 is a decent price for the HT/FT HW.

Division got a reaction from Pep004 in 2018 World Cup Qualification South American Section
I wasn't sure about Neymar up to now as looking at the from the typically 'English' style of football I thought he couldn't cope with a well organised physical defence but he is an expert at getting free kicks in dangerous areas and his delivery from set pieces and free kicks is incredible. I was looking at the system Brazil were playing and trying to come up with an effective counter strategy and I couldn't. They have too many weapons in their arsenal and they can come at you from any angle and can switch the play in a heartbeat.
Their defenders are very impressive and you can't get at them often with direct play and they are very good at defending set pieces. Every time Neymar got the ball last night a Paraguay defender took him out immediately, Couthinho was getting elbowed in the head, the fouls were done strategically closer to the halfway line than the box and Brazil still found a way to dominate the game and win 3-0 and isolate the Paraguay attackers quickly when they managed to start a counter.
Genuinely in awe, we will get to see a golden generation again. I'm less and less convinced with Firmino as he looks impressive but the end product is not there as often as I would like for a top class Brazilian international but there are options elsewhere. I'm excited to see what Gabriel Jesus can do if he gets an extended run in the Man City team.

also they are playing in altitude, it's never easy for teams that are used to play at sea level to go and perform well in bolivia, even if there's messi in the team. i remember years ago they lost 6-1 in bolivia... and to be honest argentina are playing really bad.. they beat chile 1-0 with a dodgy penalty and they ended up wasting time. if they were criticised by the press after losing three finals in a row now it's worse... coach says they are playing some good football but reality tells a different thing.
