Luton V Ipswich
Luton will have their tails up after thrashing Yeovil on the first day of the season. They will be full of confidence, and at home against an Ipswich side who we put out of the FA Cup in our last meeting at Kenilworth Rd.
Luton to win 3.4

I am putting my Antepost selections in here, although they span the divisionas. Feel free to move them if there is a more suitable thread please mods.
Blackburn, Luton, Tranmere all to be promoted
Coventry to finish top 3
Peterhead to winScottish L2
2x £25 4Folds returns £1697
Top Goalscorers Double
Pascal Gross is going to be a terrific new signing for Brighton. I can't see a striker being our top scorer this season, we don't have a standout one in the squad. He has been our top scorer in pre season, and scored against Athletico with a sublime free kick. I can also see him being out main penalty/free kick taker this season.
i have doubled him with Jota from Wolves, after reading earlier threads on here. There seems to be reasonable agreement from a few on here, so.....
Chamionship Top Scorer- Jota (Wolves) E/W
Pascal Gross Brighton's top scorer
£10 double returns - £10,985!

A really interesting read there mate. You'll be a great contributor to this section if you stick around. One thing I will say is be wary of writing off newly promoted teams at home in their first game. The atmosphere at the Amex is going to be incredible. It's not going to be easy for Manchester City in that one.
Well said!

Don't have a lot of time to study foreign leagues, but I did have a quick look the last time you tagged me @StevieDay1983 and went for a BTTS in a match last week, which landed. (Only picked it in my head). I based it on the ratings, picking 2 teams playing each other with high ratings
I might study this league a bit more as Gus Poyet is managing over there at the moment, and his style is fairly predictable.
My eyes are drawn to the match on Sunday G R&F V LK (I won't try and spell them!). G R&F seem to be involved in matches with lots of goals. 34 in the last five games, with a minimum of 5 in each game & BTTS has happened in each match. There is also a huge difference on the ratings value between the teams, and I am sure that I must be able to use them to influence my selections.
So, based on nothing but stats & ratings I would go for
G R&F to win & O3.5 goals - 2.6 with B365
Would have to leave corners alone as I am unfamiliar with the teams style of play.

I kicked off the season last night withDerby to win, and a covering bet of the DC, so no losses there. I did fancy Derby to win , but after Darren Gibson said "we are shit" after the Celtic game, I thought that any manager would turn that into a positive to rally the troops.
i also fancied Forest, but took them on the corner count instead. They won this 5-4, but I had them down at -1 on a handicap at 1.9!
staying away from results today, although I do like Exeter at home to beat Cambridge at 2/1.
Going for goals in the Championship
FUL V NOR BTTS & IPS V BIR U2.5 Double 2.66
BRI V BAR 02.5 & BTTS
FUL V NOR O2.5 & BTTS
IPS V BIR U2.5 & BTTS-NO
Treble pays 8.6
Good luck everyone & thanks god football is back!

Ok, let's get Limerick corner off to a flyer
There once was a fan of Crystal Palace
Who approached the Derby with trepidation
And when Dunk scored a goal
Which sent Brighton on a roll
It condemned the Eagles to relegation!

Yeh I agree that defensively they will be fine but I am concerned about their attack at present. Top 12 market seems like there's a nice margin for error but championship is so competitive. You have to look at all the teams and judge with confidence how likely it is that Birmingham can finish above x,y,z. For some reason they do not fill me with confidence right now but that could change with additional players. Anyway as Robbie Savage would say "It's just my opinion, just my opinion". You have to do what you think is best, if you wanna back Birmingham now, back them now.
Brighton V Man City could be a momment for great poetry, something along the lines of 'foul seaweed clung to the rocks as the great tide crashed down upon them'
You seem far to eloquent to be a Palace fan, the ones I know struggle to string a sentence together! Perhaps you have been reading Eric Cantonas book of poetry, sounds like it, haha
And anyway, why does seaweed have to be foul?!
it should read "The strong, brave and mighty seaweed clung to the rocks......"
But I like your style, and think that you have summed up the first game about right :-(
I think I am going off Birmingham at the moment. Going to have them unders this season in match by match betting.
I think the Prem will be won by a Manchester club
Villa will get promoted, Sunderland will struggle, Blackburn will win L1, Luton will get promoted and surely Tranmere will go up this season?
PS Will be looking forward to more prose & verse this season, perhaps we can have a separate thread?

Birmingham are drifting:
https://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/championship/to-finish-in-top-half
From Sky Sports website:
BIRMINGHAM ‘NEED MORE SIGNINGS’Harry Redknapp has warned Birmingham City face a “difficult” season if they do not strengthen further.
They have signed David Stockdale, Marc Roberts and Cheikh N’Doye, while Ravel Morrison and Simeon Slavchev are still on trial.
“We are a little bit short at the moment – we need to improve the squad this week if we can,” Redknapp told BBC West Midlands.
“We have been trying but it’s been very difficult to get the players in who we have been chasing. Hopefully we will get there – it’s not been through a lack of effort.”
My view is if Birmingham get some good forward players in over the next week then 2.6 for top 12 finish is interesting. If recruitment drive doesn't go well then 2.6 doesn't hold any clear value imo.
Be on the lookout peeps.
Thanks for that, let's keep an eye on it shall we? I still reckon they won't ship a lot of goals this season though. Their first game against Ipswich looks am unders game to me for sure.
We are hoping that Brighton can keep City down to single figures in their first game!

I've had 2 bets on the quaters
England to beat France 2.6. I think that England at all levels (outside the senior men's side) are too goo for most teams in Europe, and feel that the French have been less than convincing in this tournament so far.
France -1 Corner Handicap - 2.4. England don't seem to have many corners, I think that they can control the ball more effectively than their opponents when attacking, so worth a punt here at this price.
The double pays 6/1
Well I was right about England not having many corners. I thought France may have pushed forward more once they went behind
bet £25, returned £26!

My gut feeling told me only to go small stakes on the Toronto -1 selection!

Have spilt my stake
2 bets in the NYC game tonight, BTTS & O2.5

Shoul PL be setting a trailblazer by introducing a "Women's Soccer" thread?
All things being equal, and I'm sure that there is an equality policy in place on here, AND with Hope Powell now in charge at Brighton AND England ladies set to storm the Euros after thrashing the Sweaty Ladies....perhaps it should merit a thread of its own?
"Sweaty Ladies", now there's one for @andrewcalo to get worked up about!

Sorry, I'm not really into O2.5 or BTTS bets. Based on stats this season, seems likely though.
Bloody missed it due to time difference!
Hey-ho....

@vasilli07You post some good selections on here, but do you think the NYC V TOR match will be O2.5/BTTS?
They are both going well in the league, and both have good goal difference.
-
Glad to see that you think similar thoughts. I knew I should have taken 1.72!
I will keep an eye on them.
-
Does anyone think that Spurs are worth a lay against a top 4 finish at 1.72?
I would fancy them to comfortably finish top 4 if they were staying at the lane, but they are woeful at Wembley, perhaps it may be psychological, perhaps opponents raise their game when playing at Wembley?
Also the pitch will be bigger than they are used to, perhaps this has something to do with it, I don't know, but playing at Wembley, with CL football too is going to be an upset from the norm.

You were right about seaweed clinging to the rocks whilst the great storm washed over them. We clung to the rocks for 70 mins though!
City were the best team I have ever seen play at the Amex.
Interesting weekend, and in fairness to your lot, if Zaha & Benteke had their shooting boots on, it could have been 3-3.
I am very impressed with Wagner though, think he will go along way in management. Baffles me why Huddersfield made all those decent signings even though Brighton were 2 weeks ahead in the transfer market!
No good for getting any winning bets though was it!
