Re: BBOTD - Tuesday 24th September 18.50 Carlisle Day Of Destiny - 1PT Win 8/1 Bet365 Since Day Of Destiny's last victory at Southwell back in April over 1m 3f, he has been upped in class and ran in two Class 4 contests and two Class 5's, being placed in both of the former over 1m 2f. He's slightly higher in the weights than those two efforts but dropping back into Class 6 company and also in distance to 1m 1f 61yards puts him in with every chance.

Re: BBOTD Friday 20th September 18.15 Listowel Merrion Row - 1PT Win 6/1 BetBright Merrion Row made a winning start to his career when winning last time out at Galway in a bumper over 2 miles. He has his first start over hurdles here and is upped in trip 4f but he stayed on strongly towards the finish at Galway, suggesting that the horse will benefit from a step up in distance. If he takes to the hurdles he has every chance of making it two wins from two starts.

Re: Flat Racing ~ Saturday 20th Newbury 13.50 Kassiano was an impressive winner when making his UK racecourse debut at Newmarket last month in a Class 2 Conditions race over 1m 2f. The Godolphin runner was always in touch with the leaders and cruised into contention 2f from the finish under Neil Callan who never had to get serious on board, quickening well and running on to score by 3 ½ lengths to Trade Commissioner back in 2^nd. Prior to running in the UK, Kassiano done the majority of his race at Meydan where he won three of his six starts and finished 2^nd twice, including in the Group 1 Al Maktoum Challenge, finishing 2 ¾ lengths behind stablemate Hunter’s Light. Although this race is a step up from that at Newmarket, he won with such style and stayed on well enough to suggest the extra furlong will help too. As long as the rain stays away the ground should also be on his side and with stable jockey Silvestre De Sousa in the saddle he could be tough to pass. Camborne was a winner over further at Doncaster earlier this month but has also won over a furlong shorter previously. He finished 2^nd in the Group 3 Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot last year and a similar performance, with him staying on strongly at the business end, should see him go close for with Robert Havlin taking the ride. 14.20 The Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes has attracted 9 entries this year, including two for Richard Hannon in Shamshon and Anticipated. The former is likely to be sent off favourite after making it two wins from two starts in a Listed race at Deauville last month and with the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes his target, connections will be hoping he can complete the hat-trick. I will take the favourite on though and side with Richard Hannon’s ‘second string’ Anticipated who is making the step up to the 6f trip after finishing a close 2^nd behind Brown Sugar in the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes at the Glorious Goodwood meeting. The horse was slowly into stride from the stalls and Richard Hughes was the first jockey to get to work on board the colt. Despite this the horse stayed on powerfully inside the final furlong and was just denied, going down by a neck in the end. He also went close in this year’s Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot, finishing 3^rd just behind Extortionist and Supplicant. Again, the horse ran on well inside the final furlong and based on the two performances mentioned he should appreciate the step up in trip here. This will be the horse’s toughest race to date but I believe he’s an improving type with plenty of speed about him and he has the benefit on champion jockey Richard Hughes riding again. 14.55 For the fourth race we have the most valuable race on the card in the shape of the Class 2 Dubai Duty Free Handicap over 1m 2f where Mark Johnston has a trio of entries, including the consistent Fennell Bay who is likely to run a decent race again, this will be his 18^th start so far this year though and he keeps his highest mark to date so it’s tough to see further improvement here and may not have enough to factor at the finish. The interesting entry is the horse trained by Ger Lyons, Saxo Jack. With four runs over in Ireland which has included two wins and a place, he’s been sent over for this race and although 7lb higher than his latest victory he remains unexposed and there could be plenty more to come. Saxo Jack’s first win came at Leopardstown on Good to Firm ground over 1m 2f. After being in contention and leading for much of the race, he soon kicked clear and was eased down towards the finish, still scoring by 3 ½ lengths to Al Destoor. Last time out he was switched to the polytrack surface at Dundalk last time out for a decent handicap over 1m 2f 150yards where he beat the consistent Steps To Freedom by ½ a length. This time round the horse wasn’t sent to the front as early as previously but when asked to go on and win the race, the horse responded well to pressure and perhaps won with a bit more in hand at the line. This is another step up for the horse but it’s unlikely that the trainer would send the horse over from Ireland if he didn’t have the potential and the 7lb hike up in the weights may not be enough to stop him from being there or thereabouts at the finish here. The slight concern could be the ground if any further rain came but current conditions should suit. 15.30 8-year-old Kingsgate Native is set to have his 7^th start of the year in the Group 3 Dubai International Airport World Trophy and he can make up for last year’s defeat in this race when he finished a desperately close 2^nd behind Swiss Spirit after being short of room inside the 2f marker. His two best performances this year have both came in group company, firstly when winning the Group 2 Temple Stakes at Haydock in May where he had plenty of top sprinters in behind him, including the previously mentioned Swiss Spirit, Sole Power who went on to win the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot, Morawij who won the Listed Scurry Stakes at Sandown in June and finally Masamah who won a valuable handicap at Ascot back in July. The selection also finished 2^nd in the Group 3 Coral Charge at Sandown in the summer, finishing a length behind Tickled Pink. Over 2f from home the horse looked to be travelling well under Shane Kelly but found himself short of room a furlong from the finish and had to be quickly shifted left and although finishing strongly when he was in the clear he couldn’t reach the winner. Last time out Kingsgate Native was 5^th of 17 in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York last month, finishing only 2 lengths behind the winner Jwala. This race looks like a slightly easier assignment and the Robert Cowell trained horse, and if the ground continues to dry out his chances will increase further. Newmarket 14.30 Wedding Ring is likely to off a short price for the Class 2 100,000 Tattersalls Millions Fillies Median Auction Stakes but following on from her debut win in a maiden over 6f on the July Course at Newmarket the Godolphin trained filly has continued to run with credit in better company. The debut win saw the horse beat Ihtimal by a neck. The form of that race has been franked since with Ihtimal winning the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes and following up that success with a win in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes earlier this month. Wedding Ring was behind Ihtimal in the Sweet Solera Stakes but the extra furlong didn’t suit the horse and 6f looks to be the optimum trip. Prior to that race the selection was 5^th in the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot, plenty of the horses in behind her that day have gone on to win better races since, including Lucky Kristale who has won both starts in Group 2 company since. Firstly the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes and then the Lowther Stakes. Last time out the horse was 3^rd in the Dick Poole Fillies Stakes at Salisbury, finishing 3 lengths behind Joyeuse. Charlie Appleby looks to of found Wedding Ring an ideal race here for her to return to the winners enclosure again and with further racecourse experience to her name she should continue to progress further. 15.05 After being beaten odds on favourite on debut at Hamilton, it’s tough to have much confidence behind the Mark Johnston trained colt Quickaswecan but I’m going to take a chance on him improving with the experience under his belt it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him sneak into the placings at a big price. He finished 2 ½ lengths behind Invincible Strike over 6f at Hamilton in a Class 5 Maiden however Joe Fanning found himself short of room aboard the horse inside the final furlong and he was eased down towards the line. The front two still kicked clear of the remainder of the field, including Ronya who was placed in a better event next time out. The horse holds a couple of interesting entries including the 500,000 Tattersalls Millions and also the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes. There could be plenty more to come from Quickaswecan following his debut effort and he’s worth taking a chance on here. Jallota is the obvious danger in an easier race after finishing 4^th behind No Nay Never at Deauville in the Group 1 Darley Prix Morny last time out. 15.40 The Class 2 Cesarewitch Trial Stakes Handicap over 2m 2f has attracted 19 runners but the prize money can be landed by the Tom Tate stable in the shape of Eagle Rock who won over 2m 88yards at York in a Class 4 contest earlier this month. The horse led for much of the race but was headed over 2f from the finish, however he gamely battled back inside the final furlong to get up by a neck to the 2^nd placed Flashman. Prior to that victory he ran some creditable efforts in defeat including when 4 ¼ lengths behind Broxbourne over the same course and distance. Although Eagle Rock is also 5lb higher in the weights since that race, Broxbourne is now on a mark of 94 which looks very high, and the placing’s can be reversed here. Eagle Rock finished 3^rd in this race last year finishing 5 ½ lengths behind the winner Domination, that time round the horse raced towards the rear of the field for much of the race but with a more positive ride the horse is likely to go much closer. William Buick is a positive jockey booking, riding the horse for the first time, and he is taken to land the money here.

Re: Flat Racing Friday 20th September Newbury 14.00 Richard Hannon is represented in this 6f Maiden by newcomer Cape Wrath and it’s likely that the 2-year-old will be able to follow in the footsteps of stablemate Barley Mow who won on his debut at the same track last month for connections. The race itself looks like quite an ordinary maiden and it shouldn’t need a special performance from the selection to win on his debut. Of those set to line up that already have racecourse experience, Beatabout The Bush was well beaten on his debut in a decent Class 2 contest at Ascot, but improved slightly last time out at Windsor when he was dropped back into Class 5 company. With William Buick on board again he may improve further here and has each way claims. 15.05 Bonfire has been a frustrating horse to follow as a punter, having disappointed in each of his efforts since winning the Group 2 Dante Stakes over 1m 2f at York in May 2012. Following that victory he was beaten 14 lengths by Camelot when finishing 6^th in the Derby, he then finished 6^th again in another Group 1 this time the Eclipse at Sandown, finishing 18 ½ lengths behind Nathaniel. There was a slight indication that he may have been returning to form on his reappearance this year when dropping back in trip to 1m 1f at Newmarket for the Group 3 Earl Of Sefton Stakes. The horse plugged on well inside the final furlong to finish 3^rd behind the winner Mull Of Killough, who has gone on to finish 2^nd in the Group 2 Summer Mile at Ascot since, and the 2^nd placed Stipulate who has also been placed in Group 2 company since when finishing 2 lengths behind Afsare in the Celebration Mile. However following that reappearance he disappointed again when stepped back up to 1m 2f at Chester for the Group 3 Huxley Stakes. After finishing 7^th of 7 there he has been given a break from racing and returns here over four months since that effort and should be fresh. The horse has previously shown he has plenty of speed and the drop back in trip should suit. It’s not going to be an easy task with previous Group 3 winner’s French Navy and Questioning also set to line up, but if Bonfire can show similar form to that shown when winning the Dante, he has a huge chance of giving his followers another chance to collect. 16.50 I’m surprised to see Well Acquainted at such large odds in the penultimate race on Newbury’s card. The Clive Cox trained colt has been running well in decent pattern races recently with his last 3 efforts coming in Group 3 company. Prior to those races he won a Listed contest at Epsom back in May on Good to Soft ground over today’s trip of 7f where he finished a length ahead of Emell who only finished ¾ of a length behind French Navy on his next start at Windsor. Back in 6^th was Boomshackerlacker who also went on to finish 2^nd in Listed company on his next start when just a 1 ¼ lengths behind Penitent at Sandown two days ago. On his latest start, Well Acquainted ran a good race at Goodwood finishing back in 5^th but only 4 ¾ lengths behind Lockwood who finished a close 2^nd in the Group 2 Park Stakes at Doncaster last Saturday. Returning back to Listed company on ground that should suit, Well Acquainted looks well overpriced in the market and could sneak into the frame at a large price. Magic City has won 4 of his 5 latest starts in handicap company and although he’ll need to improve here to feature he should be there or thereabouts at the finish. 17.20 A wide open handicap closes the card, and unfortunately due to 3 non-runners bringing the field down to 15 the bookmakers will only be paying the first 3 home each way, however does doesn’t change our selection as a chance is taken on Pasaka Boy to return to the winners enclosure now dropped back in class. His last victory came on Derby Day at Epsom earlier this year when staying on strongly to take a Class 2 Handicap by 1 ½ lengths to Greeleys Love on ground that was Good, Good to Soft in places. He was upped in the weights following that victory but returns to the same mark of 84 today. Pasaka Boy has previously a winner at this track when winning over 7f in August last year, beating Front Page News by 4 ½ lengths and with a drop back in class and a return to look what seems to be his ideal trip with conditions to suit, this horse looks to be the one they have to beat.

Re: BBOTD Thursday 19th September 18.05 Listowel Wicklow Brave - 1PT Win 13/8 StanJames Wicklow Brave has raced over this distance on each of his 3 starts, improving with each run. He ran well at Punchestown on his 2nd outing, only being beaten a neck by the winner Stephanie Frances. Following that victory he was entered for a race at the Galway festival where he won by 3/4 of a length with Dermot Weld's Marty's Magic behind him in 2nd. Although this looks set to be a tougher race for the selection, he looks open to further improvement and deserves to take his chance in better company.

[Flat Racing~Thursday 19th September]

Re: Flat Racing~Thursday 19th September Kempton 17.40 Richard Hughes is an eye-catching jockey booking aboard Sonnetation and the 3-year-old filly is the selection in the opener. The horse finished 2^nd over course and distance just five days ago and keeps the same mark of 53 here. She has previously won over this trip, when winning at Bath in July on quick ground and this looks like a good opportunity for the horse to secure another victory. 18.10 Tatting won at Wolverhampton on Monday over this trip and he’s been quickly turned out again here without a penalty and he looks sure to go well again, however Princess Spirit has been running consistently well on her last three starts all at this track and at double figure odds she looks likely to be there or thereabouts at the finish again. Her latest effort saw her slowly into stride from the stalls but she stayed on well inside the final 2 furlongs under 7lb claimer Jennifer Ferguson to take 3^rd. If she can race slightly more prominently this time round she could lose her maiden tag but at the price, Eddie Creighton’s filly certainly looks like a backable each way prospect. 18.40 Charlie Appleby has just the one runner on the card and it would be a surprise to see his improving colt Zurbriggen beaten. After finishing 3^rd on his debut over 7f at Newmarket last August in a Class 4 Maiden he made his reappearance at the same track with a step up to a mile in a Class 5 race last month. Although sent off the odds on favourite he could only manage 2^nd, finishing a head behind Joe Sugden, who finished 3^rd in a better race at Yarmouth yesterday, however you could make excuses for the selection who was held up towards the rear of the field before coming to challenge over a furlong from home, he found himself short of room as stayed on inside the final furlong but couldn’t catch the winner. On his all-weather debut he should take all the beating. Richard Hannon and Richard Hughes partner up once again with Appease who ran well enough on debut when finishing 2^nd at Wolverhampton last November when trained by Dean Ivory, but that race came over 5 furlongs and he will need to improve to factor at the finish here over a mile in his first race since his debut. 19.10 Excellent Puck almost secured his 2^nd career win in the Class 5 Leger Legends Stakes over a mile at Doncaster earlier this month when keeping on inside the final furlong to finish in a dead heat for 2^nd with Pelmanism, a nose behind the winner Dana’s Present. He’s a consistent type on the all-weather, winning once at Wolverhampton and also finishing 2^nd there and finishing 2^nd at both Southwell and Lingfield. Although up 5lb in the weights following that 2^nd at Doncaster he stayed on well enough that day to suggest that over a mile the mark of 75 shouldn’t be a problem, especially with Richard Hughes booked to ride. 19.40 A tricky Class 6 maiden here with a case being made for many in a race that doesn’t look like one to get heavily involved with. It could be worth taking a chance on Arty Campbell who made his debut over this course and distance last month, finishing 6^th of 12 and 12 ¼ lengths behind the winner, Omnipresent. Although he never really looked like troubling the leaders it was a decent enough performance for his first race and with that experience he could improve. He’s a brother to a previous winner over 2 miles and a half-brother to a winner over 7f and a mile so the trip should suit and looks a solid each way proposition. 20.10 The Tim Pitt trained Katie Gale is still a maiden but she has continued to improve since stepping into handicap company and ran her best effort to date when stepped up in trip over course and distance last time out, and on an unchanged mark of 50, she is taken to go one better here. After tracking the leaders Jimmy Quinn made his move on the filly and she stayed on strongly towards the line, just being denied by the winner Supercillary who held on gamely. Prior to that race Supercillary had been tried in better company and the form of Katie Gale’s 2^nd looks strong enough to win this contest. Bravo Bravo is one for the shortlist having won 3 times on the flat over 2 miles previously and returns to the flat having been hurdling since his last victory at Wolverhampton. 20.40 Having won twice in succession, firstly in May at Chepstow over 1m 4f and then impressively over 1m 3f 135yards at Windsor, Jupiter Storm was raised 14lb in the weights before being finishing 6^th of 9 in a Class 2 contest over the same trip at Windsor. Although slowly dropping back down in the weights he’s not shown the same form as he did earlier in the season on his two most recent starts either but down a further 1lb and now on a mark of 82, if he takes to the all-weather surface on his first time of trying he could go well at a big price over what looks to be his optimum trip. 21.10 Following her sole victory over course and distance in a Class 6 race last November, Sakhees Rose has been competing in Class 5 races varying from 5f – 6f. The best effort in those races came at Leicester in July when the horse finished 2^nd 2 and ¾ lengths behind Laughing Rock. Last time out she was a disappointing 9^th of 10 at Warwick over 6f but she drops back to Class 6 company here and is also on a career low mark of 63, 2lb lower than her winning mark. George Baker has rode the horse twice before, including when she won, and he returns to the saddle here and looks to have a solid chance.

Re: BBOTD Wednesday 18th sept 21.15 Kempton Street Power - 1PT Win 16/1 SportingBet Street Power has slowly been sliding down the weights and is now on a mark of 72, 5lb lower than his previous winning back when he won a Class 3 Handicap at Ascot back in July 2012. Although he hasn't shown that standard since he has been showing some consistency on the all weather surface, including when finishing 6th at Lingfield last time out when he was slowly into stride but made some late headway. Could be more to come from the horse now he appears to be on a handy mark.

Re: Flat Racing Wednesday 18th Sep 2013 Sandown 14.20 The opener on Sandown’s card is a tricky looking 5f handicap for punters with 15 runners set to go to post, including The Strig who duly obliged for the site on Monday. Although James Doyle is an eye-catching jockey booking for him today, he has a 6lb rise in the weights to contend with following Monday’s victory and for that reason a line can be put through his name on your racecard. A low draw is preferable over Sandown’s flying five and that’s not been kind to Desert Command who will race from stall 12, but he usually shows plenty of pace in the early stages of his races and if David Probert can get away to a good break, he could be able to dictate the race from the front of the pack. He was only beaten a short head last time out at Epsom over an extra furlong when caught by Al Uldeid in the final strides. With only a 2lb rise in the weights following that close 2^nd and a drop in distance, Desert Command looks set for a big race. 14.50 It doesn’t get much easier for punters in the 2^nd race, a 2-year-old Maiden over a mile. With the little form on offer, Mustamir arguably comes into the race with the strongest form on paper after finishing 2^nd on his debut at Thirsk, a length behind Emef Diamond. It was a promising debut run from the James Tate trained colt and with racecourse experience under his belt, he’s sure to run well again. However it could be worth having a small each way punt on the John Gosden trained Zephyr who is making his racecourse debut. The current top price of 14/1 looks huge considering he’s from Shirocco, who was Champion 3yr old in Germany and in Italy in 2004, winner of The Breeders Cup Turf in 2005, The Coronation Cup, The Prix Foy and The Jockey Club Stakes in 2006. The dam, Pelagia is half sister to Alcazar and Lady of Chad, both Group 1 winners and is from the same family as the Champion stayer, Yeats. On his racecourse debut it’s not a horse to get heavily involved with, and the addition on cheekpieces could be a slight concern but judging by breeding he could be a 2-year-old to follow and isn’t one to quickly rule out here. 15.20 Just the three runners go to post for the 15.20 and Signposted, a winner last time out over this trip of 7f on Good to Soft ground at Epsom can score again here at the expense of Xanthos and Peacemaker who are both unproven on this going, having done all their turf racing on quicker ground. Signposted was an impressive winner last time out when beating Lincoln by 3 ¼ lengths, the horse was always in touch but stayed on strongly inside the final furlong to go clear from the rest of the field. 15.55 The feature race on the card is the Class 1 Fortune Stakes, a listed race over a mile. Wentworth is stepping up in class and into pattern company following four strong runs in handicap company this year, including when winning the Betfred Mile at Glorious Goodwood last month. If he handles the ground he’s likely to be there or thereabouts at the finish but with the majority of his runs coming on quicker ground, I am going to side with Penitent. The 2010 Lincoln winner has won much stronger races than this previously, including two Group 2 races last year, the Nayef Joel Stakes at Newmarket on Good ground where he beat Side Glance by a neck, and the Bet365 Mile over course and distance on Heavy ground when he stayed on well to beat Questioning by 1 ¾ lengths. Although the selection hasn’t been in the winners enclosure this year, he hasn’t been disgraced in better company, finishing 2^nd in the Group 3 Investec Diomed Stakes at Epsom, a length and a half behind Gregorian who has gone on to win the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes since. Penitent also took his chance in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes, finishing back in 8^th but only 5 lengths behind the winner Declaration Of War. Dropping back in class and proven at this trip and on the ground, it would be a surprise to not see Penitent return to the Sandown winner enclosure today. 16.30 Playbill has finished in the first 3 home on 6 of her 7 starts to date, and despite the only win coming in a Class 6 Maiden race at Lingfield on the All Weather at Lingfield last month over 1m 2f, she won well enough to suggest there could be more to come in the future. She tried the mile trip for the first time last time out in Class 4 company at Windsor, staying on well towards the finish she couldn’t reach the winner, Al Jamal, but on the same mark of 74 here with Ryan Moore on board she could go close. 17.05 Godolphin runner Kalispell is likely to go off favourite in the second Fillies race, however she hasn’t shown enough on her previous two starts to suggest she will appreciate the step up in trip from a mile to 1m 2f. She’s proven on soft ground which is more than can be said for many of these but she may be better over shorter. Empress Adelaide was placed at Chester in a better race last time out over this distance, she kept on inside the final furlong and should go well at the same distance here. She also ran well at Nottingham on her debut over a mile on a softer surface but ran green and with further racecourse experience she’s open to improvement here and can gain her first career win. 17.35 Fast Pace is 5lb higher following her 2^nd at Kempton last time out over 1m 3f when she finished a neck behind Nearly Caught, a subsequent winner in a Class 2 race at Haydock earlier this month, but that may not be enough to stop her going one better here returning to 1m 2f, a distance she has won over twice previously. She’s proven on testing ground and should relish the conditions at Sandown and looks likely to improve further.

He's a previous winner on Good to Soft ground and goes into this race 12lb lower than his previous flat winning mark back in 2011. In 8 starts from May to July he didn't finish out of the first two over hurdles and if he can put in a similar performance on the flat he could go close.

Stratford 16.35 The opener at Stratford on Tuesday can go the way of the Philip Hobbs trained 8-year-old Patesse. After being heavily tried over hurdles, including winning a Class 2 Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham last year, he's reverted to the larger fences and although not shown the same sort of form as he did over hurldes just yet he ran well on the same mark at Newton Abbot last time out over 2m 5 ½ furlongs in a Class 3 contest. Beaten a head by the winner Dineur, the horse came with every chance in the back straight but didn't jump as fluently as Dineur and was caught as they approached the line. He drops back into Class 4 company and should find the task at hand slightly easier here. Patesse won a Class 4 Chase over 3m at Ffos Las back in April on Good to Soft ground so the horse should appreciate the extra 1 ½ furlongs in trip and conditions look suitable. The only slight concern would be the horses jumping but with the capable Richard Johnson on board he should take all the beating. Sail And Return is another who could go well under Sam Twiston-Davies, but again his jumping over the larger obstacles hasn’t been great and he will need to improve to get involved at the business end of the race. 17.05 At a current best price of 2/5 you could argue that Killyglass is too short at the top of the market for his debut over hurdles, but he has been impressive enough on his three starts in National Hunt flat races to suggest there is a successful career ahead of him over timber. After winning by 4 ¼ lengths on debut over 2 miles at Wexford he made the switch to Emma Lavelle’s stable and finished 5^th in Listed company over the same trip at Newbury next time out on soft ground. On his latest start, Killyglass was stepped up in grade and trip when entered for the Grade 2 John Smith’s Champion Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race over 2m 1f on Aintree’s Grand National Card. Despite being sent off at 20/1 the horse travelled well towards the rear of the field and made steady headway around the outside, when asked to quicken by Noel Fehily on board he swept past the field and looked like going clear of the remainder, inside the final furlong he was slowly getting pegged back by the 2^nd placed Vago Collonges but he battled games to score by ½ a length. Emma Lavelle could have an exciting novice hurdler on her hands in Killyglass and today looks like an ideal opportunity for him to get off the mark at the first time of asking over hurdles. Kettlewell beat an odds-on favourite last time out when beating the 2012 Weatherby’s Champion Bumper runner up New Years Eve over course and distance last month and could be the one for punters looking for a bit more value in a forecast. 17.35 Seven runners are set to go to post for the 3^rd race on the card and you could make a case for most, but it could pay to take a chance on Rime Avec Gentil who has done the majority of his racing over hurdles, winning twice over 2m 1f and once over the 2m trip. He returns to chasing here having only one race over the larger jumps to date and that came back in May 2011 at Tipperary over 2m 7f when he was pulled up. The ground was likely too quick for him that day and the distance stretched him. Since that effort he’s dropped back in trip for all his races bar one at Naas and the selection has looked more comfortable around the 2m – 2m 1f distance. Paul Moloney is an eye catching jockey booking, riding the horse for the first time. With ticks in most boxes, if he adapts to chasing he could go well at a nice price. Julie Prince is a worthy favourite after winning at Huntingdon last time out, but this looks like a tougher race and he may find life tougher, especially with an 8lb rise in the weights to contend with. 18.05 The fourth race on the card is a competitive Class 3 Handicap Hurdle which can go to Vinnie My Boy who is returning to his optimum trip and can make amends for a couple of below-par efforts recently as long as the rain stays away from Stratford. Trainer Peter Bowen has previously said that the horse is better on fast ground and if the going stays Good it should suit. With 14 runs to his name, the 5-year-old has been consistent, winning three of his races and finishing 2^nd and 3^rd twice each. His strike rate has dropped slightly after his two most recent efforts over 3 miles. On both occasions he weakened in the later stages of the race, suggesting that the drop back in trip was just around the corner. Prior to those efforts he won over course and distance by 20 lengths in a Class 5 Handicap Hurdle, the runner up Dreamsoftheatre has gone on to complete a hat trick of wins including a Class 4 race, the 4^th placed Moorlands Jack has also gone on to win in better company when winning by 4 ½ lengths in a Handicap Chase at Worcester last week. Although this is likely to be Vinnie My Boy’s toughest race to date and he needs to bounce back from his recent efforts, his win here in July puts him in with every chance and he should be there or thereabouts at the finish. 18.35 Al Alfa has looked like he has plenty of potential chasing following his first two efforts, winning first time round at Warwick over 3m ½f and he then followed that up finishing runner up to Whispering Jack at Kempton over a slightly shorter distance. Both those runs were on Soft ground in Class 4 company and although it’s been 185 days since his last race he keeps the same mark of 112 as the race at Kempton and with a furlong less to contend with, Al Alfa looks the one to beat for the Philip Hobbs and Richard Johnson partnership. 19.05 AP McCoy can send punters home happy in the ‘lucky last’ when he takes the ride on Chalk It Down in the Class 6 Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race over 2 miles. There isn’t a massive amount of form for the majority of these, with five horses making their debut and a further five only having their second race. Chalk It Down is the only previous winner in the field after he won on his debut at Newton Abbot last month over 2m 1f in a Class 5 contest. Sent off the 8/11 favourite, he tracked the leader What A Joke for the majority of the race before cruising to the front in the home straight. Jockey Noel Fehily gave him a slight push inside the final furlong to send him clear and he beat What A Joke by 2 ¾ lengths. The form of that race has been strengthened since with the 3^rd placed Hazel Brook winning next time out after the first past the post was disqualified. Following the race, the selection was purchased by leading National Hunt owner J P McManus. Of the remainder, In A Heartbeat was placed over course and distance on her debut 10 days ago and although stepping up in class, she could improve now she has racecourse experience.

Katie Walsh is back on board again for this race and with the horse now having racecourse experience he can go one better.

Re: Flat Racing 16th Monday Sept 17:20 Brighton 5f 59yds Class 5 Juice 107 2 Radio Made In Brighton Handicap Selection: The Strig After an exciting weekend of high quality racing from Doncaster’s St Leger meeting on Saturday, the Curragh for the Irish equivalent yesterday alongside an excellent card for Arc Trials Day at Longchamp, it’s back to the standard fare of Monday racing today with cards from Brighton, Musselburgh, Wolverhampton and Listowel providing the action over in Ireland. There are still winners to be found regardless of the contest and previous course and distance winner The Strig looks to be in with every chance in Brighton’s finale following a good 2nd at Sandown last time out. The 6-year-old trained by Stuart Williams has been kept busy with 58 starts to his name which includes seven wins. Despite only boasting a 12.07% strike rate you would only be £1.90 out of pocket if you backed him to £1 stakes in every race following three successes at double figure odds. His last win came back in July over today’s course and distance on a 6lb lower mark in a Class 5 contest which he won well enough. After settling in 3rd for the first couple of furlongs the horse joined the leaders as they turned into the home straight and he stayed on well inside the final furlong to hold off the late challenge from Johnny Splash, scoring by a neck in the end. After the race, jockey Jean-Pierre Guillambert did say that “I rode him on Saturday and he didn’t quite get the start right. He has his head cocked in the stalls, and you’re either a saint or a villain when they open. He’s won that nicely enough but everything has got to fall right for him.”, Guillambert is set to take the ride again today so hopefully the horse will settle at the start and go into the stalls without any problems. Although the form of that race hasn’t worked out to be the strongest with only one of those behind The Strig that day winning since, the selection has continued to run consistently well including being involved in the placings on his last three starts. The first of those again came over course and distance when he was just touched off by Royal Bajan on a mark of 64. These two pulled clear of the remainder inside the final furlong and were neck and neck up to the finish with Royal Bajan just getting up by a head. The winner was raised 9lb for that victory but went on to win again next time out at Lingfield, completing a hat trick of wins. Next time out he was narrowly beaten again, this time at Goodwood where he flashed past the post with Aye Aye Digby and Picansort. It looked as though The Strig was going to get up inside the final furlong but he couldn’t defy the late runs inside the final 100 yards by the other two and he finished back in 3rd, a short head behind Picansort and a further head behind Aye Aye Digby. On his latest start towards the end of August he bumped into a good horse in Rocket Rob at Sandown who had been running in better events previously. This time round the horse was held up towards the rear of the field but he eased his way through the field as he made his challenge a furlong from home. Quickening in excellent style he was a clear 2nd but couldn’t go the pace as Rocket Rob who got up by 2 lengths, with The Strig a further two lengths ahead of Macdillion back in 3rd. He’s raised a further 2lb here and is now on a mark of 66, he did win 4lb higher on 70 in November last year over 6f so it still looks like a winnable mark and after knocking on the door in recent efforts, the return to Brighton where he’s won twice and been placed a further four times will also boost his chances. His first win at this track came on Good to Soft ground and with the ground currently Soft, conditions should be in his favour. Threave could be the biggest danger after winning a Class 4 contest at Salisbury over 5f last time out by 4 lengths. There could be more to come from the mare trained by Violet Jordan but with the ground an unknown she’s worth taking on.

Prior to his latest effort in a Class 4 Handicap at Wolverhampton the horse was tried in better races and this looks like a good opportunity for him to get his second career win. The horses sole win came at Sandown in July 2012 in a Class 5 Maiden over a mile when he beat Dream Tune by 3 1/4 lengths. Since that race, Dream Tune has gone on to run well in good races, including when 2nd at Royal Ascot in June in the Class 2 Buckingham Palace Stakes over 7 furlongs. Based on that form, Invisible Hunter should be up to winning a race of this nature but his form has been patchy since that win. Last time out he dropped back to Class 4 level when 3rd over 1 mile 141 yards at Wolverhampton, finishing a neck behind Ocean Tempest and a further length behind Mount Tiger. Ocean Tempest has since gone on to win a Class 3 Handicap over 7f at Chester boosting the form of the selections run and he should be open to further improvement here on an unchanged mark of 82, although 7lb claimer Ahmad Al Subousi was on board, today he is replaced by Ahmed Atjebi. Bluegrass Blues may be the biggest danger to the selection after he was first past the post last week over this course and distance but disqualified and placed 2nd. He has a 3lb claimer on board today, making the same rise in the weights ineffective and is likely to go close.

Re: Flat Racing > Saturday September 14th 14:40 Doncaster 5f 140yds Class 2 Ladbrokes Portland Handicap Selection: Ajjaadd – 14/1 Ladbrokes At 10/1 the field, it's difficult to fancy any of these too strongly but at the same time, it's also the perfect opportunity to spot a bit of value and hopefully have a winner at double figure odds. Favourites in this race haven't got the strongest stats behind them, with only Poet's Place justifying favouritism in the last 10 runnings of the Portland Handicap. It also likes as though you want to be drawn in stall 13 or higher, with only 3 of the previous 10 winners coming from a lower draw, although Doncaster was re-laid in 2006 and 2007 and the preference for a high draw appears to only be marginal now. Last year's 20/1 winner was Doc Hay who also broke the track record for this distance in the process, he is favourite with many bookmakers at the moment, however he's 3lb higher in the weights this time round and he's only won once since last years victory. That win came at Ascot in a listed race over 5 furlongs at Ascot in October 2012, however his form since hasn't been the strongest, finishing out of the placings in his 8 starts since. There was signs of returning to better form last time out when 7th of 15 at Beverley in the Listed Betfred Beverley Bullet Sprint Stakes over 5f, finishing only 4 lengths behind the winner Stepper Point. After being in the rear in the early stages of the race, he stayed on well despite not being able to go the pace of the leaders and the extra 140 yards will be beneficial today. Doc Hay is likely to give his followers a big run for their money with conditions set to suit, but the current form suggests he may not be up to winning this race again and can be taken on. Barnet Fair has ran some decent races this year and would be another for the shortlist had the ground not softened up as much as it has. He's unproven on this ground and his three turf wins have came on much quicker ground so although I believe he'll be winning a big handicap again, he can be ruled out today due to the surface. Paul Hanagans mount Burwaaz has been highly tried so far this year, including most recently when 11th of 13 in the Group 1 Prix Du Haras De Fresnay Jacques Le Marois over a 7f 209 yards at Deauville last month. 8 days prior to that race he was 3rd in the Stewards Cup over 6 furlongs at Glorious Goodwood which would put him amongst the mix at the finish here, however he's drawn in lowly stall 2 and will find it tough from there, but he's in with an each way chance. For my idea of the winner though I am going to with the horse that finished one place ahead of him Burwaaz in the Stewards Cup, and that horse is Ajjaadd. After being sent off at 66/1 not many punters would have been cheering him on as he joined the leaders 1 furlong from home but he continued to travel strongly, finding only Rex Imperator too good. He had plenty of these in behind that day, including as mentioned Burwaaz and also Racy, Secret Witness, Barnet Fair and Prodigality. The selection keeps the same mark of 98 today following that 2nd, but 3lb claimer William Twiston-Davies was on board at Glorious Goodwood, today he's replaced by apprentice Kevin Stott who claims 7lb so Ajjaadd looks 4lb better at the weights for this race. His 9 careers wins have came over the minimum trip of 5 furlongs but he has been placed over an extra furlong numerous times, suggesting that today's trip shouldn't be a problem. The ground at Doncaster is currently Good to Soft, Soft in Places and with 3 of those 9 victories coming on soft ground, conditions should be perfect for the Ted Powell trained 7-year-old. Ajjaadd's last win came back in April when he won a Class 3 Handicap at Epsom beating La Fortunata by a short head, with Silvanus a further length behind in 3rd. Silvanus was an each way selection for myself on Wednesday when he finished 3rd at this track at a big price. Racy was also seen in this race, he trailed in last of the 13 runners but he was slowly away out of the stalls and lost any chance of being involved there. With 22 set to go to post, it's a wide open race and possibly one to get the pin out for, but Ajjaadd has plenty going for him and should be there or thereabouts at the finish. Effectively better off at the weights following his impressive 2nd last time out with ground conditions in his favour and an ideal draw in stall 13, he's had plenty of these behind him in previous races and he can hopefully confirm that form today.

Marilyn Marquessa was 5 3/4 lengths behind Limegrove last time out but if she can find form shown previously she could go well in a race that shouldn't take much winning.

The Robert Cowell trained filly had 3 starts last year, with her debut coming at this course in a Class 6 Maiden Stakes over the shorter trip of 5 furlongs. She finished 5th of 10 but it was an encouraging run for her first career start. Darren Egan was on and he held up the horse up in the early stages. The horse made headway over 1 furlong from the finish and she stayed on well towards the line, suggesting that a step up in trip would suit. Her following two races were both over 7 furlongs on the All Weather surface, firstly at Lingfield and last time out at Southwell, where she posted her best effort to date, finishing 2nd of 7 in a Class 6 Maiden Auction Stakes. After tracking the leaders for much of the race, she was called on for an effort over 2 furlongs from the finish, taking 2nd inside the final furlong. She chased the eventual winner, Lilac Lace, but never looked like catching her and finished 2 1/2 lengths behind. Since that race, Lilac Lace went on to win her next four races, including two Class 4 contests and also finished 2nd in a Class 2 Handicap at York. On her handicap debut, Nelina has been given a mark of 62 and with the trip and surface set to suit she comes into this race with every chance of entering the winners enclosure. Graham Gibbons is set to be on board and looks a strong jockey booking.

Re: Flat Racing > Friday September 13th 15:50 Doncaster 7f Class 1 One Call Insurance Flying Scotsman Stakes (Listed) Selection: Barley Mow – 7/4 PaddyPower The Richard Hannon trained Barley Mow won well on debut over 7f at Newbury in a Class 4 Maiden, and with racecourse experience under his belt he's open to further improvement here. On debut, Barley Mow was sent off the 7/4 favourite for the Hannon and Hughes partnership. Richard Hughes held the horse up towards the rear for much of the race but cruised into contention 2 furlongs from home. He quickened away well with the 2nd placed Yuften and they were soon clear of the rest of the field. Barley Mow scored by a neck but it was a shade comfortable for him in the end and Richard Hughes didn't have to get too serious on board. Back in 3rd, little over 4 1/2 lengths behind Barley Mow was Emef Diamond who went on to win next time out at Thirsk over a mile. Although it's a big step up in class for the selection, he looked to have a touch of class about him on his debut and he deserves to take his chance here. The Good to Soft ground is a slight unknown and the biggest worry, however I don't think Richard Hannon would take his chance with him if the ground was too soft and Barley Mow can make it two from two at Doncaster. Be Ready finished 2nd on his debut in the Listed Denford Stud Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newbury, he's another that should improve for that run and is likely to be the biggest danger to the selection.

She done well to finish in that position as she was awkward leaving the stalls and had a lot of ground to make up, she stayed on strongly however and only finished 4 3/4 lengths behind the winner, Powerful Wind. Prior to that race she finished 2nd over the same course and distance in a Class 6 event and is only 1lb higher in the weights here. Pat Cosgrave is a strong jockey booking and rides the horse for the first time.

Re: BBOTD Wed 11th Sept 19.15 Kempton Spieta - 1PT Win 18/1 888Sport Spieta is yet to win after 7 starts but ran well enough here over course and distance back in June on the same mark to suggest she should be good enough to take this. She led for much of the race under Kieren Fallon and 2f out it looked as though she would go on and win, Thwart stayed on strongly inside the final furlong though and beat Spieta by 1/2 a length. The selection was slightly more disappointing on her next effort over course and distance, finishing 6th of 8 but she didn't seem to settle well and on a 2lb lower mark there could be more to come.

Re: Flat Racing Wed 11th Sept 17:15 Doncaster 5f Class 4 Berendsen Workwear Handicap Selection: Silvanus Each Way – 16/1 BetVictor The final race at Doncaster on Day 1 of their St Leger meeting looks like a wide-open contest where a case can be made for the majority of the field, however a chance is taken on the 8-year-old Silvanus who comes into the race after some good recent efforts, and at a big price with bookmakers paying the first four home, he should give you a good run for your money if your playing each way. This race will be the 75th career start for Silvanus and he’s been a fairly consistent sort throughout his career, winning 9 times, finishing 2nd 9 times and also finishing 3rd 9 times! This year he has failed to get his head in front, but has been placed twice, including at Epsom back in April when finishing 3rd in a Class 3 Handicap over the 5f trip, finishing little over a length behind the winner Ajjaadd who went on to finish 2nd in the Class 2 Stewards Cup at the Glorious Goodwood meeting. Showing plenty of speed, Silvanus was up with the pace for much of the race but couldn’t go with the second placed horse, La Fortunata, inside the final furlong. It was an encouraging performance in a decent race and it was looked likely the horse would be running some big races during the season. Following the race at Epsom he was entered in a 5f Class 2 Handicap at Chester where he finished 9th of 13, but being drawn in stall 9 didn’t help his chances and the performance at York next time out was a lot better. In a Class 2 Handicap, again over 5f, on the Knavesmire, Silvanus finished 8th of 19 but the first 10 home were separated by just over 3 1/2 lengths. The winner was Kingsgate Choice who went on to win again next time out in the Scottish Sprint Cup at Musselburgh. Now rated 109 his most recent effort was a 4th placed finish in the Group 3 Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh. In front of the selection that day was plenty of others who have gone on to win since, including Wokingham winner York Glory, Investec Dash winner Duke Of Firenze and Barnet Fair who won a decent handicap at Ascot back in July. Since that race at York, Silvanus has continued to run reasonably consistently while his mark has continued to drop, last time out he was on a mark of 79 for a Class 4 Handicap at Thirsk over 6f. Under Paul Mulrennan he raced prominently for much of the race and stayed on well in the later stages when he tried to go with the winner, Ashpan Sam, who quickened well to score by 3 3/4 lengths. The next four behind him were separated by no more than half a length with Silvanus finishing back in 4th. A head behind him was Sir Pedro who is currently 2nd favourite in the market for today’s race. The selection is dropped a further 1lb in the weights, now on a mark of 78, 7lb lower than his previous winning mark. Returning to the 5f trip will also be ideal for Silvanus and Paul Hanagan is also an eye catching jockey booking. In a race where 20 are set to go to post it’s not going to be the easiest task for Hanagan to get the horse in front, but with conditions likely to be in the horses favour he should be there or thereabouts at the finish.
