Re: The X Factor - Overall Winner Okay we're down to six now, conveniently 2 from each category, although the eviction process caused Louis to do a bit of sqirming (he had to boot one of his groups out!!) Betting Update from Oddscomparison (typed out by me though!!) Tabby 9/4 Blue Square, William hill Steve 3/1 Generally available Rowetta 4/1 Ladbrokes G4 13/2 William Hill Cassie 7/1 VC, Skybet Voices With Soul 33/1 VC, Sky, BetDirect Three of the 4 boring acts have gone, and surely Voices can't survive another eviction scare. Steve is the real mover in the market, but agree with Trickrick, He wouldn't look out of place down your local. G4 are struggling due to song choice Rowetta proved she has a great voice this week Cassie had a bit of a wobble Tabby - well he is the fav and would not be surprised to see him win but Simon Cowell is right (again!!!) he is turning into Sharon osbourne's sister!! In the over 25 category there is an arb available: Rowetta 5/4 @ Stan James Steve 1/1 @ BlueSq Have just checked and both prices are still there, although how much you can stake may not make it worth playing both sides.

Re: NBA 2004/05 future bets Don't know much about the NBA, except that its worth a watch on Sky when its on (though i think its on Five this season). Following Dino's lead had a quick compare between what regular season wins quotes the us books are putting out (I used The Greek, but they are all more or less the same), and compared them to the match-ups that Laddies are offering. The one that stands out (based only on the comparison criteria) is 5/6 Atlanta vs Chicago 5/6 Whereas the quotes for wins are: 28 Atlanta (under fav) 32 Chicago (over fav) So have had an interest bet, and am looking forward to checking Eurosportnews every morning for the next 8 months or so!!!

Re: Rugby League......Tri-nations Didn't get to see the match, but you were closer than me judging by the result GB 8 - 12 Aus :sad
-
Re: Rugby League......Tri-nations no fancy write up tonight for this game. Apparently it's been said that if we don't beat the Aussies tonight then we never will. Well as much as it pains me to admit it, I am gonna have a (small) investment on an Aussie rout, I only hope I am wrong 3.25 Australia to win by over 12.5 points @ betfair.

Re: The X Factor - Overall Winner I am having to endure watching this (and the Xtra Factor) every bloody week, so I might as well give my opinions to someone else rather than just the missus. The name of the show is the X factor and I am hoping that the numpties that actually vote for these things will get to grips with that concept and go for something a little different.
So I will divide my little write ups into 2 groups – those we have seen before, and those who have something different to offer. Boring 2 To Go couldn’t believe you put ‘Peters & Lee’ cos that’s how I refer to them. They can sing, but there is nothing special about them. Get the sympathy vote cos the guy is blind (don’t mean to be harsh, just realistic) Voices With Soul These Mamma’s belt it out, but they are nothing different. Verity Keays blew her chance 30 years ago, back for another attempt. Again can sing but nowt special. Cassie youngest contestant , in the middle of a war of words between Simon Cowell and Sharon Osbourne – can see her making the final 5 Different G4 remember all the fuss about Pavorotti (sp?) and the 3 Tenors and all that about 10 years ago, I can see these lads doing a similar thing, it would be mainly covers (imagine ‘G4 sings D12!!!’ ) but it is something unusual and I reckon they will go close Rowetta definite loon, positively unstable, but got character and has talent Not sure Steve I can’t work out whether this guy is really cool or just a bit of a nerd. But he doesn’t offer new Tabby well having a feline name doesn’t necessarily make him a cool cat, but there is something about him that is a little strange, I think it could be androgeny. So I reckon the final 3 will be G4, Tabby and Rowetta, with G4 doing the business I think you raise a major point with reference to the judges having the final say, most weeks it will come down to the 1 judge whose acts are not voted in the bottom 2. I think this will have a major influence on the outcome, and as the weeks go by it might be something that can be taken advantage of in the next eviction markets. -
Re: BBC sports personality of the year (team award) I might be wrong here, but I am sure that the BBC did show at least highlights for the Ryder Cup, so in-keeping with the Beebs tradition of keeping the prizes to itself, I reckon Europe are pretty much nailed on.

Re: World Grand Prix I echo Gaz's sentiments on giving credit to Peter Callaby, but there is something about him that winds me up! I have seen both of his matches and he has played really well, pulled out some cracking finishes, and his manner on and around the oche is nothing unusual. But in his interviews (especially the one after he had put out Taylor) his manner was one of 'well what do you expect'. I know they are short matches in the early stages and Taylor is vunerable then, but Callaby murdered him, and you would have thought in the interview he would have said something along the lines of, Yep i played really well, Taylor is vunerable, am really pleased with my performance. But i felt as though there was a feeling of beign underwhelmed after all this guy had just knocked out a legend!!! Even Dave Wahts-his-face was struggling. anyway rant over :p

Re: Christmas Number One 2004 Don't the bookies usually exclude Charity singles from the Xmas number 1 and in effect pay out on second? I know its one of the dangers of backing in such a market but you are gonna be a bit p1ssed if you have a bet and then a few weeks later they decide to do something like this.

148 break Good call Paul (Burnett) Just read about the 148 break, it's a record, but he doesn't get anything for it - I think thats a bit rough - although I reckon it might well feature in a few pub quizzes in future.

This starts at Wentworth this Thursday, coverage is by Auntie Beeb, so expect some trips down memory lane with Alex Haig and Peter Allis!!. Any end of moans This event is still a grueller with 36 hole matches in each round. The big change this year is that the field is expanded to 16, so it means that all of the players start on Thursday, and the Top 4 seeds don't get their byes in the Quarter-Finals. As usual the line up is a mixture of players who have little realistic chance of winning, Yanks who are guaranteed a decent pay-check, a few decent Europeans, Vijay Singh and standing dish Ernie Els. Having said that it is matchplay and upsets do happen, but as the matches are 36 holes, there is less chance of an upset. Below are listed the first round matches (the figures on the end are the scheduled start time for the 1st & 2nd 18 holes on Thursday). Seedings are in brackets and the draw works its way through as per the seedings. Ernie Els (1) v Scott Drummond (16) 8.20 12.45 Angel Cabrera (9) v K.J. Choi (8) 8.32 12.57 Padraig Harrington (5) v Chris Riley (12) 8.44 13.09 Thomas Levet (13) v Mike Weir (4) 8.56 13.21 Retief Goosen (3) v Jeff Maggert (14) 9.08 13.33 Lee Westwood (11) v Todd Hamilton (6) 9.20 13.45 Miguel A Jimenez (7) v Steve Flesch (10) 9.32 13.57 Bernhard Langer (15) v Vijay Singh (2) 9.44 14.09 I have gone for Vijay Singh each-way at 4/1 - the guy has had an amazing year and for most people winning 8 titles would give them an good excuse to take the foot of the pedal, but this is the hardest worker on any Tour and he is a Wentworth regular who Els notwithstanding has a decent record here. the 2/1 to make the final seems a steal, he should breeze through the first two rounds, he may face resistance it the shape of Westwood/Goosen and then hopefully it will be a cracking final against the Big Easy, with Vijay winning through. I see the Semi-final line up as: Els v Harrington Westwood v Singh 4/1 Singh outright available with betdirect

Nat League play-off Final This Final - is the winner guaranteed to be promoted? I don't know a lot about either team, but am sure that neither have been in Superleague, and I look forward to some new blood. I know Leigh usually find only the relegated side too good for them, so I suppose this year they must be fancying their chances.

Free bets From my understanding the free bets from bookies go like this: You place the bet using existing funds in your account. Bet loses : the bookie refunds your stake Bet win: the bookie pays you out. In effect what you are gaining is the winnings should your bet win, you are not actually gaining the stake as well, thus putting the amount (e.g £20) on a 1/20 shot is only going to make you £1 if the bet wins. Edit: but in the bright side you haven't done your doughin when it finishes 0-0 :ok

Re: British Snooker Open Am just watching the Hendry v Higgins match now, and pretty it ain't. It's just not happening for Hendry at the moment, he is missing shots that my granny would get. Although Higgins is up 2-0 and getting all the chances he is struggling as well, needing several opportunities to win each frame. Hope fully they will come out after their little break refreshed and ready to give it a real go!!
