Thanks for your thoughts, Richard.  I agree with you, it's always better to trust your own ratings.  The number of times some longshot horse has won and I've gone to the RP website and it says something like the horse performed badly LTO and others are better....then the horse goes and wins!  It seems as though these "experts" writing up do not consider things such as a horse being run in a tactical manner.

York 1.45 Ten go to post here for this one mile class 2 handicap which has quite an open look about it. Isla Kai has been a bit disappointing this season for Yorkshire based Nigel Tinkler though has shown enough on his last two starts to suggest his turn is near especially with the handicapper dropping him a couple of pounds. He was last seen when 6th in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot and under regular rider Rowan Scott can bounce back to winning ways in this lesser handicap. Via Serendipity had Blue For You half a length away in third at Sandown back in June and there shouldn’t be a great deal between them again today with the former surprisingly double the price of the latter.   ISLA KAI 1 point win @ 4/1 Coral   Newmarket 2.05 An eight runner class 2 7F handicap is up next where once again William Haggas has the short priced favourite. Kidwah makes her handicap debut under Cieren Fallon off of a mark of 88 and although she could blow this field apart looks scant value for a horse who’s two wins have been gained with give in the ground (slow side of good at Redcar last time when landing the odds). I’ll take a chance with George Margarson’s Golden Spice who was a dual winner at this trip in May on the Rowley course here and at Leicester. She wasn’t disgraced when 10th of 28 in the Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot where she took up her usual front running tactics on the far side but weakened inside the final furlong. That was her first start at a mile and back at seven furlongs expect William Buick to be positive on her and she can make all.   GOLDEN SPICE 1 1/2 points each way @ 6/1 William Hill 1/5th 123   York 2.20 A very disappointing turnout for the £80k guaranteed group 3 Silver Cup with just three due to post. The Crisford’s Without A Fight had John Leper 1 3/4L behind over course and distance four week ago and on 3lb better terms should confirm the form again although John Leper did come from some way back that day. The other runner is the Johnstone’s Thunderous who’s dropping in trip and on official ratings is just 3lb behind Without A Fight. This could get tactical and I’ll be keeping my powder dry and not playing here.   Newmarket 2.40 Another class 2 handicap is up next. This one is over a mile of the July course and is for three year olds only. The best form has to be Ralph Beckett’s Jimi Hendrix who was an excellent third in the Britannia Handicap at Royal Ascot and although 5lb higher now can confirm the form with Lawful Command who was just under a length behind him at Ascot and is a pound better off. He looks the bet here. Charlie Appleby saddles a brace of runners in top weight New Kingdom who’s been gelded since we last saw him and presumably the more fancied William Buick ridden Bay Of Honour who’s making his handicap debut here. He was all out to hold Positive Impact at Thirsk last time and as promising as he maybe I really don’t understand why he’s a 7/2 chance but Positive Impact, who’s won a match since, is as big as 12/1. I’ll have a small ew saver on him as well.   JIMI HENDRIX 2 points win 4/1 bet365 POSITIVE IMPACT 1/2 point each way @ 12/1 BetVictor   Ascot 3.00 Probably the most open race of the day is the class 2 5F heritage handicap run here with a maximum field of twenty going to post. Burning Cash is chasing a hat trick following two victories at Doncaster rising only 6lb and has claims along with top weight Zarzyni who was last seen, ten weeks ago, finishing fourth in a group 3 at Newmarket. Plenty of others have chances on their best form but I’ll take a chance with one of the three three year old’s in the field in the Bryan Smart trained Bond Chairman owned by stable stalwart Reg Bond and ridden today by Graham Lee. He made his handicap/seasonal debut over course and distance at the Royal meeting in the three year olds only 5F handicap when finishing 4th beaten only a length. That form has been subsequently boosted by wins for the 7th and 8th and despite a 2lb rise may still be ahead of the assessor.   BOND CHAIRMAN 1 point each way @ 14/1 bet365 1/5th 12345   Newmarket 3.15 Only five go to post for this year’s renewal of the group 2 Superlative Stakes run over 7F. This is a contest that Charlie Appleby has targeted over the years and has won four of the last six years and this year saddles the days nap bet in Victory Dance who like last year’s winner Native Trail comes here on the back of a novice stakes victory. A 700,000 gns foal and half brother to the 2018 Moyglare Stakes winner Skitter Skatter he came fast and late to get up in the shade of the post over course and distance and that experience of this track should help him today. Charlie and Mark Johnstone’s Lion Of War is attempted to become rookie sire Roaring Lion’s first pattern winner having looked good in winning two modest contests at Leicester and Newcastle. He’s very hard to assess. Third in today is Isaac Shelby who comes here having won a Newbury maiden in good style but the Godolphin vibes are very strong for this son of Dubawi and he’s the bet here.   VICTORY DANCE 3 points win @ 13/8 BetVictor   Ascot 3.35 Seven go to post for the group 2 Summer Mile and I’m finding it hard to pick from the front four in the betting here. Chindit is officially the best of the quartet but only by a pound and this is a slight drop in grade for the Hannon runner. William Haggas’s My Oberon joined Godolphin’s Modern News on the line at Windsor last month (Perotto 3rd) and with Modern News now 3lb better off is my selection here under Hollie Doyle. The other market leader with every chance is Charlie Hill’s Mutasaabeq who’s been placed in two group races already this season including last time out at Epsom when a neck behind Modern News. German raider Best Lightning has a 3lb penalty to contend with and it will be a surprise were he to be involved whilst Andrew Balding’s Tactical has a bit to find stepping out of handicaps. A tough call but slight preference for Modern News.   MODERN NEWS 1 point win @ 7/2 bet365   Newmarket 3.50 A maximum field of twenty go to post for the Bunbury Cup run over 7F and as always has a very open look about it. The first horse to look at has to be the Gosden’s Samburu who is officially 8lb well in here having run an excellent 6th in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot only beaten three lengths. This is only his fifth start and should be involved in the finish as one of only two three year olds in the field. Plenty of these ran at Royal Ascot with the Kensington Palace Handicap won by Inver Park possibly the key form race. Ropey Guest was runner up a short head ahead of Roscolyn with today’s favourite Montassib just behind in 5th when not getting the clearest of runs. Of the three at the prices I’m interested in the George Margarson trained Ropey Guest who’s four times the price of the ‘sexier’ Haggas runner Montassib and represents each way value for a stable that are in excellent form at the moment. Cases can be made for plenty of others has one would imagine but it’s Samburu for me with a small each way saver on Ropey Guest.   SAMBURU 1 1/2 points each way @ 6/1 Ladbrokes 1/5th 12345 ROPEY GUEST 1/2 point each way @ 20/1 Paddy Power 1/5th 12345   York 4.05 A terrific renewal of the John Smith’s Cup Handicap run over 1m 2F 56yds with the maximum allowed of twenty two entered. I did like the look of the Saeed Bin Suroor trained bottom weight First View but he’s drawn in the car park and although you can win from out there as Farraaj did in 2014 it is a disadvantage and I’ll be looking elsewhere. Jane Chapple-Hyam’s Intellogent was a good 2nd in the Royal Hunt Cupmlast time and won’t mind stepping up to 10F here. He’s a player. William Haggas seems to have a fancied runner in every decent handicap this Summer and his Mahrajan is favourably berthed in five and is another with claims. I’m a big fan of Rogue Bear who’s hit the frame in three decent handicaps this season and appears to have been trained for this. The problem with him is he can be a bit keen but I’m prepared to take a chance that a big field and plenty of pace may help him and from stall 14 under Stevie Donohoe is part of my staking plan. Sir Michael Stoute’s Just Fine was a big disappointment to me at Royal Ascot and drops in trip here which may suit. Owen Burrows saddles Anmaat whom we haven’t seen since running an excellent second in last Autumn’s Cambridgeshire. If he’s straight enough he could be interesting .   ROGUE BEAR 1 point each way @ 13/2 bet365 1/5th 12345 ANMAAT 1 point each way @ 10/1 Ladbrokes 1/5th 12345   Newmarket 4.25 This years group one July Cup has attracted fourteen runners of the highest quality sprinters with participants from Royal Ascot’s Platinum Jubilee Stakes and Commonwealth Cup races well represented. The Platinum Jubilee was won by Godolphin’s Naval Crown by a whisker from stable mate Creative Force with the possibly unlucky Australian runner Artorius just behind in third and four others snapping at their heels. It’s hard to split the front three and all have claims. The three year olds sprint group one at Ascot was the Commonwealth Cup in which Richard Fahey’s Perfect Power ran out a cosy winner from the supplemented Flaming Rib and should be confirming that form along with the 4th Cadamosto and Twilight Jet. I’ll take the three year old Perfect Power to beat his elders under Christophe Soumillon fresh from his group one victory in the Eclipse last Saturday.   PERFECT POWER 2 points win @ 5/2 William Hill   York 4.40 The 5F listed City Walls Stakes features ten sprinters with course specialist Winter Power officially the best horse in the field by 7lb and upwards. He won this in good style last year and his course figures read 6111 which as well as this race include last year’s group one Nunthorpe. The problem we have with him is he’s shown little in two runs this season but there may have been excuses for both of those and he’s worth chancing to outclass these. He is officially rated a 22lb better horse then the unbeaten three year old Royal Aclaim who looked good when winning a novice stakes at Bath last time out although what he beat that day is very debatable (second beaten favourite since and third won a 0-80 apprentice AW handicap).   WINTER POWER 2 points win @ 5/2 BetVictor

    RESULTS UPDATE
I hate this bit when I lose.  They say many a true word spoken in jest.  I should have had an insurance bet at least on Rhubarb.  I was unhappy about the jockey on Astrophysics anyway.  Only 0.65 returned for my multiples and hence a loss of 15.15 points.  At least my Nap won.  Silly me should have had my recovery bet on that one.  Maybe that's what I will do in future as it seems logical.  This makes my MTD -41.36 and YTD -184.38.
I won't have too much time tomorrow but hopefully there should be some good racing
