  1. Thanks for the tips and write ups.....

I'm off to watch Bromsgrove v Chelmsford in the FA Cup, after our brilliant midweek win against previously unbeaten Halesowen I'm not betting on this game although understandably Chelmsford are favourites being a division  higher.

In the Southern Premier Central league I fancy Stamford at Sudbury and Stratford at home to Nuneaton

    Aldershot v Oxford City
I am not surprised that the home side have been backed already for this and I imagine that will continue to happen throughout the week. To be fair these two teams could easily have switched positions as Aldershot probably ought to have gone down, but the late managerial change to bring Tommy Widdrington in just worked. Whilst losing Tyler Cordner to York isn't great, they did get a 6 figure sum for him and whilst I don't expect them to finish any higher than mid-table, I do think Widdrington has done a solid enough job in bringing in new players to improve a struggling squad. The main reason for this bet though is that I think Oxford City are going to really struggle this season and I think they will be this terms Maidstone. They don't have much money, don't have many fans and the squad looks pretty weak for this level. I'd be a bit surprised if Aldershot weren't good enough to get off to a winning start and I reckon they will be nearer 8/11-4/6 come kick off not the odds against they currently are.

    Maidenhead v AFC Fylde
Because of Alan Devonshire I always think Maidenhead will stay up because he has done an amazing job over the years, but for the first time I actually think they could end up in the bottom 4 this season. They were still capable of putting in very good performances at home to the big clubs and they pushed both Notts County and Wrexham close at home last season and I suspect that might happen again this time around. They still were very close to going down though and were pretty average for most of the season. I don't really see them improving this season and for me that means they could finally go down. AFC Fylde certainly have the better squad and after winning the title last season I think they have the potential to be in and around the play-offs. I think they should be favourites for this even though they are away from home and look good value.

    Rochdale v Ebbsfleet
The first live National League game on TNT (the new name for BT Sport) is this one and I hope that both Step 2 champions can get off to a winning start. Ebbsfleet played some great football to win the title with ease last term and this is a real tough game for a relegated Rochdale side who haven't been at this level before. I don't think Rochdale are going to do a great deal this season and they might get a shock here. It wouldn't actually surprise me if Ebbsfleet have a bigger budget than their hosts and manager Jimmy McNulty was talking in the paper today that even the likes of Altrincham and Gateshead have been outbidding them for players. Bet365 are out on their own at 7/2 but plenty are bigger than 3/1 and I think this is a game priced up on what leagues they were in last season rather on what both sides might be capable off now they are in the same division.

    Solihull Moors v Eastleigh
As I mentioned in the Ante-Post preview I think Solihull could well go down this season. Neil Ardley left in the summer and I think it was because the budget was going in the wrong direction. All the key players have left and they look a side way weaker than last season. We are also talking about a side who didn't actually do that well anyway. New manager Andy Whing did a good job at Banbury, but winning a title at Step 3 is very different from managing at this level and to me he strikes me as the cheap option. If they were still going for promotion I don't think he would have got the job. Eastleigh haven't signed as well as I thought they might when it was announced Stewart Donald was coming back as owner, but they will still be going for the play-offs and this does look a very good game for them to get their season off to a winning start. I should add as well that they have still signed well, but I thought they might have spent even more cash than they have. One slight concern is they were poor away from home last season, but hopefully that wont matter here.

    Prices from Sunday evening

Aldershot 2.5pts @ 11/10 with Paddy Power, William Hill, Betfair, Betfred and Ladbrokes (6/5 with Bet365 and take up to 4/5)
AFC Fylde 2pts @ 13/8 with Paddy Power, Betfair, Boylesports and Ladbrokes (9/5 with Bet365 and take up to 11/8)
Ebbsfleet 1pt @ 16/5 with William Hill, Betfair, BetVictor, Betfred and Boylesports (Bet365 are 7/2 and take up to 5/2)
Eastleigh 2pts @ 2/1 with Paddy Power, William Hill and Betfair (Bet365 are 11/5 and take up to 6/4)

    Great start to the season

  3. Not a great price but Lewes(4-5) look good at Brighlingsea in the Isthmian premier. Lewes unbeaten in 5 whilst Brightlingsea have been suffering some very heavy losses in the last few weeks.

My team Bromsgrove look in a bit of turmoil, 20 per cent wage cut for the players, an interim manager that is more permanent than interim to save  money, no win for ages and a very leaky defence. Royston have been very disappointing this season by their standards but I'll be on them today (7-5)

Ps.... Are you on twitter Darran to follow?

  4. Went to Bromsgrove  v Alvechurch  on Tuesday night, it was a cracking game in monsoon conditions with Bromsgrove winning 3-1... They rode their luck early doors as Alvechurch could have been two or three up early doors but after that Bromsgrove played really well. Alvechurch  are a decent side despite two back to back defeats and I fancy them at evens to beat a struggling Rushden side today at Lye Meadow.

  5. Excellent write up and info as always Darran,

    Looking forward to the season......

Will you be doing ante post on the other leagues?

I'm heading to Bromsgrove sporting v St Ives Saturday, will report back with thoughts after the game. Not expecting much from Bromsgrove, lost all their best players(there weren't  many last season!) and have a complete rebuild with a new manager Thomas Baille.

  6. Off to watch Stourbridge v Bromsgrove.

Stourbridge have had an horrific start and Mark Yates must be under big pressure to turn things round. My lot beat a very poor Rushden side Saturday but I honestly don't know what to expect today.

St Ives seem to have alot of injuries at the minute so I'm on Biggleswade at 13-10 doubled up with Peterborough Sports at 8-11 who should beat Rushden if Saturdays evidence is anything to go by

If you can get on with Bet 365 their Alternative Asian handicap market has Needham Market  -1.5 at 2.675 and -2 at 4.1.

Was half-expecting Darren to put up Gloucester given York's depleted defence which was certainly quite evident in their surprise home defeat to Kidderminster last weekend. I thought 2/1 was pretty generous for the Tigers.

I've actually backed Gloucester to score over 2.5 goals at 11/2 (skybet) and have sold the time of their 2nd goal at 77.5 (Sporting Index).

    Cheers,

    I'll have a look ?

  8. Agree 100 per cent with Needham Market, shame the price has gone from 5-4 to 4-6. The start of the season and the bookies haven't got a clue really until form patterns emerge. I would take Needham minus 1 but can't find any markets at the minute

I was liking the look of Hayes and Yeading 11-10 at Yate, they've scored 9 goals in their first two games. Also South Shields 10-11 at Witton, they've won both games comfortably so far and as Darran said in the ante posts strong favourites for the league.

  9. Bromsgrove 0 Leiston 4

Bromsgrove have lost all their best players and replaced them with mainly kids, be a season of struggle unless a few experienced signings are made. Leistons number 9 who scored two, one a belter looked a very good player. No disrespect to Leiston who played us off the park but if they're walloping us then I fear for us against the more experienced sides who will bully us to death.

On a side note, I can't believe the price on Alvechurch to beat Bromsgrove tonight, 12-5!!

Definitely value as the bookies seem to be pricing us up on the last few seasons rather than this seasons squad

  10. We lost three players in the summer that were worth 50 plus goals last season, Mills,Mcdonald and Gregory. Not easy to replace.

Coupled with an unbelievable amount of injuries which began pre season the squad is now threadbare and it looks like a few are playing with niggling injuries.

Confidence is shot at the minute and the manager looks to have run out of ideas how to stop the rot.

Need to grind out a couple of scruffy 1-0 wins somehow, be interesting to see if the trophy games saturday  are priced up at the bookies as we're at home to a lower ranked struggling side

  11. I'm off to watch Hednesford v bromsgrove in the southern Prem central tonight. My team bromsgrove have been very disappointing so far this season and seem to be getting worse if anything following comprehensive defeats to needham and Hitchin in the last two. Hednesford were expecting big things this season but they've been poor so far and are bottom of the league also sacking their manager a few weeks ago. I never back against my side if I'm going to watch but we seem to be carrying a few with injuries and giving up loads of chances to the opposition.

6-4 hednesford looks a good price as we look there for the taking at the moment, hope I'm wrong

What happened towards the end of the game with all the sending's off for Tamworth?

The referee struggled all game as usual at this level(not easy with all sorts going on)with both the tamworth management team booked in the first half, loads of bookings in the second half. First sending off was in the 94th minute for a Tamworth player getting a second yellow for overcelebrating their equalizer and then a second tamworth player sent off on the final whistle for dissent. Great game, great drama

  13. Great tipping!

I took hartlepool and kings Lynn singles and a double after reading your write ups

I was at the bromsgrove  v Tamworth game, once again an absolute belter, bromsgrove letting slip a 2-0 lead going onto the 90th minute partly due to losing the spine of the side through injuries in the second half.Anyone that finishes above Tamworth will be top three on this evidence whilst Bromsgrove will also be around the play offs if they can get everyone fit imo
