  1. Texas holdem rules Hold'em, also known as Texas Hold'em, is widespread poker game. Each player is dealt with two cards facedown (e.g. hole cards) and five cards dealt face up. Players are using their best five cards gathering any combinations using hole cards (two cards dealt facedown) and five cards dealt openly. Each player's five-card hand competes with other players' hands. The best five-card hand among all players wins the pot. Betting Betting starts right after two hole cards are dealt to each player. These cards, dealt facedown are unique to each player. Three flop cards (also known as flop) are dealt in the center and are called "community cards", which active player uses to modify his hand. After this, game proceeds with the second betting round. The fourth "community" card (also known as the turn card) is dealt in the center of the table and is followed by the third betting round. The final card dealt during the game is also known as "river" card. It is dealt in the center of table and followed by the fourth and final round of betting. The "turn" and the "river" are both community cards, so are used by all players in the game. Showdown takes place after all bets are in. All remaining players (also called "active" players) are showing their hands. The best hand then wins the pot. In the that there is only one player remaining after any of Texas Holdem rounds - the showdown is canceled and the pot is awarded to that remaining player. All players use can use their hole cards combined with community cards to gather the best five-card-hand. They can use both, one or none of the hole cards (two cards dealt facedown) ,that they started with. In the case where a player used none of the two blind (hole) cards - he/she plays the "board". The order of play in more detail Players are dealt with two cards facedown each. First betting round occurs. Dealer turns the flop (three community cards) face-up. Second betting round occurs. The "turn" (fourth community card) is dealt. Third betting round occurs. The "river" (fifth and final community card) is dealt. Final betting round occurs. Showdown. At the showdown common Texas Holdem rules are indicating such variants of cards usage: -three flop cards and both hole cards -four flop cards and one of hole cards -only flop cards are used (the board is played) Check and raise leads are allowed in all of Texas Holdem games, except of the first betting round. In the first round a player is allowed to either to bet or fold. The Dealer always holds the seat at the top of the table and deals all players. Dealer's position (also known as dealer's button) starts at dealer's left and proceeds clockwise one player after each hand. Burning Card Burning Card - the dialer burns (cancels) one card at the beginning of each betting round. Unlike land-based rooms, online software includes effects of burning cards. Dealer Button Dealer Button is a yellow disk labeled with a "D" letter, which moves clockwise round the table from player to player at the beginning of each hand. It is used to identify the current position of dealer, as if the player against it were actually dealing the cards. Such a position is widely known "to be on the button". After each hand completed, the button moves one position to the left. Meaning that if you were "on the button" it will move to the player on to your left. Blinds In other poker games this is often called the ante. In Texas Holdem only two players are forced to put money in (The ante / blind) prior to any cards being dealt. One player has to put in the 'big blind' - one player has to put in the 'small blind'. In other words one player has to put in a big ante and the other player puts in half that amount - the small ante. In order for other players to continue into the game they will have to match the big blind (big ante). Even the player who has put in the small blind has to stump up the other half of the big blinds forced bet in order to stay active in the game. Different Bets Fold - to throw your two hole cards in and admit defeat. Check - to place no additional bet because there is no blind / ante to meet and no one has raised / bet in that round yet. Call - to match the last raisers bet in order to see the next round and remain active. Raise - to bet first in a round. Re-Raise - to bet even more than the last player who raised forcing everyone to match this new bet in order to stay active in the game. Betting Order Texas Holdem game is always dealt in a specific order. Betting has specific order too: Blinds are the forced bets made by players to the left from the dealer button. There is a possibility to bet the big blind, which should be bet to the left from blind. Determining missing blinds, you should know that Texas Holdem players are required to post the small and the big blinds once per round, or their equivalent for re-entry to the game, in case if the blinds were missed. You will be prompted by software (if online) in case you missed your blind payment obligations (some newbies try to mkiss their blinds in order to see their two hole cards for free (cheeky beggers!). In the beginning of the first round, after all players in blind positions have made their blind deposits to the pot, each player is dealt with two hole cards. At this time each player can see the cards, except of the opponents' cards, of course. Only first round betting starts with the player to the left of the big blind. This player has opportunity to call, fold or rise. On the first round, that player, who is on the small blind position is allowed to act after the button. The player on the big blind position acts following that of the small one. Right after the betting round starts, you are owed to select one of the following options: raise/check, call or fold. The Holdem player who has the big blind is able to rise, call, check or fold on his turn. The big blind is able to check or rise if nobody rises during the turn. The betting is started with the first active player on the left side of the dialer button. This player has three choices - check, bet or fold. All succeeding players have the same choices until someone bets / raises. After the bet is made, succeeding players have one of three choices - call, fold or re-raise. After all betting is done and there is more than one player still in the game for the pot, the showdown determines the winner. The last opening or rising player is allowed to show their cards first, while any of other players can fold - drop his cards face-down, which means that they have lost.

  2. Re: New Forum

Great idea to start a Poker forum, where did the inspiration for that come from
I've been asking to start a poker forum for ages Crowie. Maybe the thread in this section (moved from GC) with over 16 pages of replies was an inspiration for a lot of people to think about starting such things eh? As for the rest of your post I actually thought you were above such sillyness. Content of your post aside - it's nice to see you about.
  3. Re: Poker experience I started playing the game in about 1998 / 1999 when the film Rounders was released in the USA. I was in Vegas at the time and stuck the film on Pay Per View in my room. Having always been someone who has loved a bet I was immediately transfixed by the fact that it was a skill game that still involved a wager. Whilst I didn't play the game in Vegas I did make a resolution to learn the game when I got home. On arriving back home I read a few books and entered tourneys in Nottingham. I placed in about 30% of my first 20 tourneys (but never won one) and was in profit by a considerable amount. My relationship then broke up in the year 2000 and I moved to Sutton Coldfield in the West Mids. It was a ball ache going up the M42 to Notts so I didn't play for about 6 months. Then a friend told me about a casino called the Rainbow in the centre of Birmingham that hosts the UK Champs. I joined there and started playing the tourneys. It was here that I learnt I was just an average player and that the Notts crowd I had been winning from were (by and large) soft touches. I learnt a lot at the Rainbow and placed in a good percentage of tourneys. I have only ever played one cash game face to face. Over the ast few months I have played at Laddies online. I am a few grand up even though I don't play often. I happen to agree with Wayne that patience is the key followed by short bursts of aggression. However the most important lesson to learn is about position. Where the button is happens to be the most important aspect of winning or losing (if you ask me). When you learn position - you can play! I will start a thread on this aspect of the game soon. :ok

  4. Re: limit = pish Haha - out first in the freeroll. On the big blind with 10, 8 - flop comes 9, J, Q. I raise - Player goes all in - I call. You guessed it. He had 10, K. :lol

  5. Re: limit = pish Having a good time of it at the moment. I came back from honeymoon yesterday and noticed I had $49.95 in the laddies account. (I drained the rest before I went away to pay for the wedding booze bill! - I had a free bar at my wedding :x ) Anyway 24 hours later the Laddies account stands at $513.00 :nana :nana Anyone else in the big freeroll at Laddies tonight (19:30hrs) ??

  6. Re: limit = pish I thought I would revive this thread. How has everyone done whilst I have been away? I'm in a tourney at the moment at Laddies 13059 - $30 + $3 My lobby aint working so I don't know how I'm doing). I was on a Cruise for my honeymoon Jezza - you will love it. I had a Suite (as it was my honeymoon) and it is luxury incarnate. You're in a twin with balcony which I saw and is bloody lovely too by the way. When do you go? I have had a pair of two's and a pair of fours early. My feeling is you raise big or you fold. I folded as I was in an ok position in the comp (my lobby was working then). What do you guys think? BTW I still think we should have a poker section for questions / strat like this.

  7. Re: hold on a minute, why not........... Welcome to the PL Man in Marbella. The system you are talking about is widely known as the Martingale Betting System and is to be avoided at all costs. I cannot give you the mathmatical probability of getting 12 losing bets in a row at odds of evens (because I am not clever enough) but I do know the chances of this happening are suprisingly high. I'm sure someone will come along and give you the exact stats soon enough. Last season I had a dreadful run at one point and lost a lot of bets in a row so I know from experience that it can happen (as well as in theory). On a wider note you would have great difficulty finding a bookie to accept the size of bet you would need to place if you had a few losers on the trot.

  8. Re: laddies Fcuking hell. Did I? :o :o :o Well I do have a big ccok and you all have the right to know I suppose. P.S. Before someone says "No you are a big ccok" I thought I would post that 'joke' first.

  9. EDIT: Gett1n posted this in GC for Winbet. Might as well pin it for a day or so. Think we should leave it pinned till after the weekend for all the visitors to bookmark the addy and get an account (which is free and easy btw) I believe you have problems loggin in? You have to log in with each individual post? Try logging in at this address p076.ezboard.com/bpunterslounge as opposed to www.punterslounge.com That should sort it out. :ok

  10. Re: laddies Started playing more of this 7 card stud Jezza. It's very good indeed. I'm winning money more easily on this. I wonder if it's because so many people have accounts to play Holdem only and only visit the seven card stud tables for a laugh? H'mmm I wonder. There seems to be plenty of fish. I'm gonna sit down and watch my Rounders DVD tonight as well.

  11. Re: PL Card Game I was first out I think Jezza. Third hand I get KK - I go all in pre flop. I get outdrawn by AQ with an Ace showing up on 4th. On Laddies at the mo in a cash game. Up $80 after 30 minutes. I'm thinking of entering the $5 turbo at 1900hrs if anyone wants to join me?

  12. Re: Can the Lucky 15 Bet help us beat the bookies? Hi Chala - this thread should probably be in Systems and Strats. I or one of the other mods will move it in a while. I don't bet on first goalscorer or correct scores as they are 'mugs bets' IMO. I only bet on straight results. Doubles and singles generally don't pay enough to cover the unit stakes needed to make it worth while. Example. To bet on 4 teams you would need to place 6 doubles. If two teams won at even odds (decent picks) then the return would only be 4 units. 4 units to cover a 6 unit stake? Not worth it you see? I generally back 4 teams a week. I normally back singles. I will also use the money I would have placed on the doubles to increase my stake on the trebles and fourfold as this is only 4 trebles and one accy = 5 units. If three or 4 come in you smash your unit stake making it well worth while. I'm sure a maths egg head will come along and disprove my theory but this system has made me money over the last two seasons more often than not. However my BEST advice would be to stick to singles. :ok
