  1. Re: UEFA Cup Matches (Nov 8) Spartak Moscow to bt Bayer Lverkusen These two are in one of the more competitive groups along with FC Zurich (Swiss), Sparta Prague (Czech Rep) and Toulouse (France) and with 3 teams progressing from each group every point in vital. This is Spartak`s first game in the group phase and they reached this stage of the competition by beating Hacken of Sweden 5-0 at home and 3-1 away, Prior to that they were unlucky to go out to Celtic on penalties in the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League so they are a team not to be underestimated. They are currently 2nd in the Russian League 2 points behind leaders Zenit St Petersburg after 29 games and they have a home record of won 10 drawn 3 lost 1 scored 29 and conceded 11 their only league defeat to date was back in May against Lokomotiv Moscow. They are on a good run of form at present with 4 wins 1 draw and 1 defeat in their last 6 games which includes 3 straight home wins with 8 goals scored and only 1 conceded. Spartak`s top scorer is Pavlyuchenko with 13 goals which makes him also joint top league goalscorer with CSKA`s Wagner Love and England supporters will not need reminding of the goal threat he represents after his 2 goals against England in Russia back in October. Bayer Leverkusen have already played in group match when they beat Toulouse 1-0 at home. They reached this stage of the competition with a 5-4 aggregate win over Uniao Leiria of Portugal winning the home leg 3-1 before losing 3-2 away. In the league this season they sit 6th and are already 10 points behind leaders Bayern Munich after 12 games. Their away record is average with 2 wins 1 draw and 3 losses so far scoring 7 and conceding 6. Their last 6 league games have brought 2 wins 1 draw and 3 defeats whilst scoring 9 and conceding 7 with 1 win and 2 defeats on the road during that period. The two teams have met twice before in European competition during the 2000/01 Champions League campaign group stages and honours were shared with Spartak winning their home game 2-0 and Leverkusen winning their home match 1-0. Another interesting stat is that Spartak are unbeaten in their last four European home games, although they won only one of those matches however Leverkusen have lost in their last three European away games, and have not earned a win on their travels in 17 games - a run stretching back to a 2-0 Champions League win at Maccabi Haifa FC in the 2002/03 season. Good luck all. :D

  2. Re: Uefa Cup Thur 25th October Zenit St Petersburg to beat AZ Alkmaar UEFA Cup Group A These two teams are in the same group as Nurnburg of Germany, Larissa of Greece and Everton so will be hoping to get off to a good start with 3 teams progressing from the group stages. To get to this point in the competition Zenit beat Standard Liege of Belgium 4-1 on aggregate with a 3-0 home win doing the damage. AZ overcame Pacos Ferreira of Portugal 1-0 over two legs with the solitary goal coming in the away leg. Zenit are top of the Russian league on goal difference from Spartak Moscow after 27 games and so are well into their season and their home record reads won 9 drawn 4 lost 1 scored 27 conceded 14. The only defeat was a 3-1 reverse to Spartak back in April and since that time Zenit have gone from strength to strength. In their last 6 games in the league they have won 5 and lost won winning the 3 games in that time by scoring 7 and conceding only 2. Their opponents tonight AZ have made a poor start to their league campaign and after 8 games have won2 drawn 2 and lost 4 scoring 14 and conceding 11 and they currently sit 12th in the table. On their travels in the league they have 1 draw and 2 defeats to show for their efforts scoring 3 and conceding 5. Their form over the last 6 games does not offer much encouragement either with only 2 points being picked up from a possible 18, and I feel that they will struggle to get anything from today’s encounter. The other bet I will have today is a more speculative one in the first goalscorer market. Pavel Pogreniak has scored 11 times in the league for Zenit this season and no fewer then 8 of them have been first goals! Now at 8/1 in the first goal market I feel a few pounds/Euro can be risked for a good potential return. The fact that Pogreniak with 11 goals is supported so well in the goal scoring department by Arshavin (9 goals) and Zhirinovsky (9 goals) is the main reason I feel Zenit will come out on top and I would not put anyone off having a look at the anytime goalscorer market to see what price the other 2 are. Good Luck all :)

  3. Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October Werder Bremen to beat Lazio in Group C. This is a must win game for Bremen tonight as they have lost both their previous games in the competition 2-1 at Real Madrid and more surprisingly 3-1 at home to Olympiakos. Lazio have started with two draws a 1-1 at Olympiakos and a 2-2 at home to Real Madrid. Bremen are currently 2nd in the Bundesliga 6 points behind leaders Bayern Munich after 10 games and they have a home record of won 4 and lost 1 of their 5 matches scoring 17 but conceding 9. The only blot on their home record other then the Olympiakos game was when Bayern beat them 4-0 back in August. In their last 3 home games however they have found their form and scoring boots with a 4-1 win against Stuttgart followed by an 8-1 win against Armenia Bielefeld and in their last home game a 3-2 win against Hertha Berlin. Lazio are 13th in Serie A and have started the season slowly, already finding themselves 10 points behind leaders Inter after only 8 games. The form on the road has been steady if uninspiring with a win at bottom club Livorno 1-0 in their last away game the only success to go with draws at 19th placed Reggina (1-1),9th placed Sampdoria (0-0) and a defeat at 10th placed Atalanta (2-1). Lazio will no doubt keep it tight again tonight and this game brings together the classic case of the free scoring home side against the tight defensive visitor. I believe Bremen will win tonight’s encounter as anything less then a win as I have previously said will all but eliminate them from the competition. They are currently best price 5/6 with Ladbrokes for the win which for me is a reasonable price. Also for those of you who like historical trends Bremen have faced Italian opposition 9 times at home and have yet to lose. I personally feel you can read that stat either way and my reason for picking Bremen tonight is more to do with the goal threat from Sonogo and Almeira who between them have already hit 11 this season. Bremen look set to be able to pick from a fully fit squad tonight whilst Lazio have a few injury problems. Midfielder Stefano Mauri and defender Sebastiano Siviglia sustained injuries in Sunday's 1-0 win at AS Livorno, joining Cribari and Ledesma on the sidelines, also Behrami, Mutarelli and Goran Pandev, picked up knocks in the Livorno game but should be fit to play.

  4. Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October Great post Niko and welcome to the forum,:) Tonight my tip is from the Champions League: PSV Eindhoven to beat Fenerbache in Group G These 2 teams are in the same group as CSKA Moscow and Inter Milan and is one of the tougher groups in this season’s competition. Fenerbache lead the group at the moment with for points after beating Inter 1-0 at home and drawing 2-2 in Moscow. PSV have 3 points from their 2 games after losing 2-0 at Inter and BEATING CSKA 2-1 at home so this is a key game that can shape the group. In the Dutch league PSV have made a good start with 6 wins and 2 draws in their 8 matches so far and are 1 point behind leaders Feyenoord at this early stage of the season, during this time they have won 5 out of 5 home games scoring 16 and conceding only 1. Fenerbache are 4th in the Turkish league after an indifferent start to the season and have a record so far of W4 D4 L1 F13 A8 but the telling stat for me is that on the road they have yet to win in 4 games with 3 draws against Manisaspor (14th) 1-1, Bursas or (15th) 1-0, Glenclerbirligi (13th) 1-1 and a 2-0 defeat at Istanbul BB. The fact that they have failed to beat 3 mid table sides away from home must be a concern. These 2 sides meet in the group stages of the 2005-06 Champions league competition with Fenerbache winning 3-0 at home and PSV winning 2-1 at their ground. In all PSV have played 6 Turkish sides at the Philips Stadium and have yet to lose and I feel that the record will be maintained tonight. Early team news is that PSV coach Ronald Koeman will be without Ibrahim Afellay, who has not yet recovered from a broken toe, as well as fellow defender Manuel da Costa due to an ankle injury and forward Jason Culina who recently underwent knee surgery. Fenerbache will have to do without ex PSV forward Mateja Kežman, because of a groin problem, but Fenerbache coach Zico may call on midfielder Stephen Appiah, playing again after six months out with a knee injury. Good Luck all :cheers

  5. Re: Czech Gambrinus Liga (Oct 19 - 22) Mlada 6th take on Liberec 16th in todays game and i am going for a home win. Mlada are the form team over the last 6 games with 4 wins and 2 draws scoring 11 and conceding 4 and a win tonight would move them up to 4th in the league. At home in the league they han won 2 drawn 1 and lost 1 scoring 5 and conceding 3. They take on a Liberec side today who are bottom of the league which is a suprise for a team that finsihed 4th in the league last season with the same number of points as 2nd placed Slavia Prague but with an inferior goal differance. Their away form so far has seen them draw i and lose 4 of their matches and with only 1 win in their last 6, and 1 goal in their last 3 away games have i believe an uphill challenge to get anything out of the game today.

  6. Re: Euro 2008 Qualifiers (Oct 13) I will be on Scotland at about 6/5 to beat Ukraine this afternnon. After the great win in France the Scot`s know a win today and then the same in Georgia will almost certainly ensure qualification before the final match at home to Italy. The Ukraine have been poor in qualifying and in the game in Kiev against Italy feel to pieces after the Italians got the second goal, Shevchenko has had a nightmare at Chelsea and with his confidence down i feel it will have a big effect on the Ukraine squad. I do not completely write off the Ukraine as with players like Voronin and Vorobei they have some class acts but the Scot`s have not lost at home in over 18 months and will surely be up for this game.

  7. Re: UEFA Cup - matches 02/10 - 04/10 Most of my bets as you know are based on form and stats but every now and then I get a “gut instinct “ for a certain outcome and that is the case tonight for me as I expect Blackburn to qualify for the 2nd round of the UEFA Cup which is the group stage. I say qualify as opposed to win the match as Stan James are offering evens for Blackburn to qualify as opposed to the general 1 to 4 about Blackburn winning the game. I was on holiday so missed the first leg when Larissa won 2-0 at home but by all accounts I have read Blackburn were poor on the night and got what they deserved. Tonight I am sure Mark Hughes will get his team motivated for the challenge and I believe a win for them by the margin required is not beyond a side that contains players of the quality of Santa Cruz, Bentley, McCarthy and Matt Derbyshire who in my opinion is a future England international, every time I have seen him play I have been impressed with his movement and finishing and he can have no finer manager to help him develop his game. Blackburn had a mini slump with the defeat to Larissa followed by a home defeat to Portsmouth by 1-0 but they have since beaten Birmingham 3-0 in the Carling Cup and Sunderland away 2-1 in the Premiership and look back on track. Prior to that they had been on a long unbeaten run with good results at Chelsea where they drew 0-0 and at home to Arsenal when they drew 1-1 which has been by far Arsenal’s toughest game of the season so far. Their opponent’s tonight Larissa are currently 8th in the Greek league after 3 games and come into this match off the back of a 2-0 away defeat to Atromitos at the weekend. They qualified for the UEFA Cup by beating Panathiaikos 2-1 in the Greek Cup Final last season so are not to be underestimated, and they also include in their ranks Ibrahim Bakayoko who Everton fans will remember after he had a short spell with them a few years back, in fact it was he who got the first goal in the match in Greece. I believe if Blackburn can get an early goal momentum will build and they will go on and win the match by the required margin. The UEFA Cup is an event I am sure Blackburn would have expected to do well in this season having gone through the Intertoto Cup to get there and they will not want to exit at this early stage. The other bet I fancy tonight is David Bentley at 8/1 for the first goal. He has been playing well this season and thoroughly deserved his call up to the senior England squad though the treatment he received from so called fans left a lot to be desired. He has shown maturity and has scored 3 times in all competitions for Blackburn this season including 2 in the last 2 games so hopefully he can bag one tonight. So for me it is Blackburn to Qualify for the 2nd round of the UEFA Cup at evens with Stan James, (remember even an extra time win or penalties makes this bet a winner).

  8. Norrkoping v. Osters Norrkoping top the table by 11 points from 2nd placed Sundsvall but lately over the last 6 matches their form has dipped a little with 3 wins 1 draw 2 defeats 10 goals scored and 5 conceded but they have been in superb form at home all term and are unbeaten in 10 games at home 8 of which were won, also in that time they have scored 28 and conceded 6. Their opponents tonight Osters are 13th in the 16 team league and only 1 point off a relegation place. In their last 6 games they have won 2 drawn 2 and lost 2 scoring 8 and conceding 7 and ironically they have a better away record in the league then they do a home one with 3 wins 3 draws and 4 losses whilst scoring 10 and conceding 13. However though I believe they will be a hard side to break down I cannot see any further then another home win for Norrkoping as they go towards the title and a place in the top division. The Head 2 Head record between these 2 sides in recent times would tend to bear this out with Norrkoping winning 4 of the 5 games played since the turn of the century. May 17, 07 Superettan Osters IF Vaxjo 0 - 1 IFK Norrkoping Jul 23, 05 Superettan IFK Norrkoping 0 - 1 Osters IF Vaxjo Apr 16, 05 Superettan Osters IF Vaxjo 1 - 2 IFK Norrkoping Aug 16, 04 Superettan IFK Norrkoping 3 - 0 Osters IF Vaxjo May 24, 04 Superettan Osters IF Vaxjo 1 - 2 IFK Norrkoping At best price 3/5 with various bookies it may not be the value bet of the day but in my opinion considering the gulf in class between the 2 teams should be an even shorter price. 9. Re: UEFA Cup - qual - 1st leg (Tue 31/7 - Thu 2/8) The game i am interested in is the one between Dynamo Minsk of Belarus and Skonto Riga of Latvia. The first leg in Latvia ended in a 1-1 draw so the tie is still very open. Dynamo Minsk are currently 8th in their league and by their standards they are having a bad season as they were runners up in the league last year. Their home record in the league reads W3 D2 L2 F3 A5 so it is obvious that a lack of goal power is one of their problems. They are a hard side to beat however and over the last 6 games they have W1 D4 L1 F4 A6 as their record and the worrying stat that in the 3 games at home during that period they have not scored. Skonto Riga are currently 3rd in the Latvian league and their away record in the league is W4 D1 L3 F14 A11,as opposed to Minsk they are currently top of the 6 game form table with 4 wins 1 draw and 1 lose whilst scoring 15 and conceding 9. I am going to have 2 bets on this match, firstly i will be backing Skonto on the Asian Handicap market with +0.5 goal which is currently best price 5/6 with Pinnacle, and also i will be playing the draw at best price 9/4 with Skybet with the intention of trading out during the game. I base my tip on the fact that Minsk are having a poor season and are struggling to get goals and Skonto know they have to score if they have any hope of progressing as Minsk got an away goal in the first leg so they cannot hope to sit back.

  10. Re: Daily Nap Of The Day ~ Tues 03/04 3.55 Southwell: Empress Olga. Ed Dunlop and Jamie Spencer combine on a mare who has been placed twice in her last 3 starts and who was a close 2nd to a good sort over 7 furlongs on her last run in March, has the ability to go 1 better in a small field today.

  11. Re: Saturday Bankers 3.55 Lingfield: King`s Apostle, trained by Mark Johnston and ridden by Kevin Darley, this horse has been placed in it`s 3 previous outings and in my opinion has plenty of scope for improvement.

  12. Re: Fridays Bankers 3.15 Cheltenham: Kauto Star, prone to the odd mistake but still a class above and has a great attidue which will help if in a scrap going up the hill today. Ruby gets the best out of the horse and the fences are not as hard as previous years.
