  1. Re: The Progressives Shasta Daisy ran ok but didnt really have a chance as Doyle decided to race her 3 and 4 wide round the sharp bends. I'd mark her up for that alone but she's becoming frustrating to follow. Extremity ran well but ran into a blot in Idea, still a good run and shouldn't go up to much for a 2nd there. -2pts 100.5pts.

  2. Re: The Progressives Boy In The Bar ran 4th after ground went heavy. -1pt 102.5pts 5.10 Lingfield Shasta Daisy. Put terrible turf run behind her when running well back on a/w last run. opening handicap mark of 75 looks fair enough and she should be very competitive off that. 1pt win @9/2(BOG) 8.30 Kempton Extremity. Bounced back to form last run with ready win. Form of maiden win reads very well and taken to continue progression off 82. 1pt win @10/3(BOG)

  3. Re: The Progressives Interception looked the winner all the way until tying up late on, don't know whether it was idling oir not quite seeing out the trip. Might be one who'd be seen in much better light in a strongly run 6f and produced late. -1pt 103.5pts +3.5 7.40 Ripon Boy In The Bar, won maiden at third attempt last run in first time blinkers which are dispensed with tonight. No doubt David Barrons Dutch Art gelding isnt quite the finished article and may even be a bit quirky but he does have ability and and opening mark of 75 looks very workable. He has shown progression each run, from the wild debut where he lost umpteen lengths at the start before running on when the penny dropped, then the free running second run to the comfortable win last run. Obviously there are many potential improvers in here too but 11/2 in places looks fine. 1pt win @11/2(BOG)

  4. Re: The Progressives 3.10 Brighton Interception, twice unlucky for the thread David Lanigans filly has just enough juice in the price to make her a bet. Stable has finally had a couple of winners and should kick on now. Inteception should be suited by the race conditions and back against her own sex here. 1pt win @15/8(BOG)

  5. Re: The Progressives bit gutted Cloudscape got beat into 2nd of Top Tug who Cloudscape thrashed two runs ago, Didnt think an 11lb pull would be enough for Top Tug to reverse form. The pair pulled miles clear and it at least proved I was right in thinking he was well ahead of his mark. Got a few notebooked horses running tomorrow, don't know whether I'll have a bet on any of them yet as it's just not happening for me at the moment and especially on Saturdays. Astonishing 2.05 Hayd(progressive), Aelous3.50 Hayd(unlucky penultimate run, fast pace?), Mighty Yar 3,35 Newm(progressive but short enough price now)Pretzel 4.40 Newm(could be thrown in on maiden form and well backed already), Wannabe Your Man 8.10 Newb(progressive), Aristocratic Duty 8.40 Newm(ground concern but shaping as if ahead of mark). -1pt 104.5pts +4.5pts

  6. Re: The Progressives Master Carpenter won really well under a very good ride. End of Line ran 3rd but well beaten in the end. -1pt 105.5pt +5.5pts 4.15 Newmarket Cloudscape, Going to stick with Gosdens runner tomorrow as he bids to resume his progression with first time tongue tie. The ground is a slight concern as he was pulled last week when the ground went soft but maybe it was for another reason. Its a trappy race but he should be in the mix if handling the ground. 1pt win @ 3/1(BOG)

  7. Re: The Progressives woeful from Classic Devotion, went out really quickly after having perfect sit all the way. -1pt 106.5pt +6.50pts 8.20 Sandown End Of Line, ran well when 2nd to What About Carlo before running down the filed in the French Guineas, Handles soft and step back up to 8f will suit. Master Carpenter has decent solid form but the drop back 2f is a concern. Indy won only start on soft last season and could be very useful but has break to overcome here. Patentar is sired by Teofilo and I have concerns about ground as Teofilo's often prefer it quicker. Nonno Giulio has a lot to prove on his second start for Gosden. 1pt win @ 11/4(BOG)

  8. Re: The Progressives rather typically Placidia did win today.:( 8.15 Kempton Classic Devotion, has some decent maiden form in the book and debuts in this handicap off 80. Handles polytrack and stable starting to fire of late. 1pt win @5/1(BOG)

  9. Re: The Progressives only Placidia on my list today but I feel she's vulnerable in maiden company and would be a better punting option in a handicap...bound to scoot in now!! There's some interesting maiden races today and some nice types on pedigree, worth a watch of these a few times.

  10. Re: The Progressives just checked through the thread and somehow I've got totals wrong!:unsure the ones below are correct...I think:spank 37 points staked 44.5 points returned profit 7.5 points 20% ROI 36 bets total 11 winning bets 30% SR running bank 107.5 pts

  11. Re: The Progressives Al Thakhira travelled well into the race and looked a danger 2f out but weakened and eased off to trail in. -1pt 106.4 Monday I have Greeb(Oasis Dream)(3.55 Leicester) at least 7lb ahead of his mark but the soft ground is an unknown so I'll leave him for now. I also have Stampede(High Chaparral)(3.40 Redcar) a good 10lb ahead of his revised mark too but again the ground is a question so again no bet. 4.10 Windsor Piazon, looked a progressive sprinter before running at last run at York(C3) where he was slightly hampered but wasn't going to win. Dropped back into class 4 tomorrow and handles a bit cut, might just bounce back dropped in grade. 1pt win @5/1(BOG)

  12. Re: The Progressives 3.55 Curragh Al Thakhira, I fancy Marco Bottis filly to resume her progression on her favoured soft ground in the Irish 1000. She got messed around in the French equivalent last time but still ran creditably. She ran J Wonder close in the Fred Darling previously and proved she had trained on in doing so. Last year she easily beat Lightning Thunder in the Rockfel yet is available at more than twice the odds of Olly Stevens filly! Her only bad run was in the Breeders Cup Fillies Juvenile on fast ground, before that she was mightily impressive when winning her first two starts with give in the ground. 1pt win @9/1(BOG)

  13. Re: The Progressives I'm a bit puzzled by the result of the 3.45 at Haydock today as two big form swings took place for reasons unknown to me. Firstly First Flight turned around the form with What About Carlo on 9lb better terms, I could see him getting closer on those terms and maybe even beating WAC on firmer ground but when the rain came I didn't think it would happen to that extent. Maybe WAC was ridden too close to a too stronger pace given underfoot conditions as the first and second came from off the pace and First Flight was mid div. Secondly the winner Chatez turned the form round with Red Stargazer on 1lb better terms for his neck defeat lto over CD on soft ground by the tune of some 15L!! What do we make of Red Stargazer and What About Carlo when they turn up next? Wrangler won the 4.20 but only just a short odds and gained some good experience as he had to battle to win here. I wouldn't be surprised if Haggas puts him away for a bit now and has him aimed at a big York handicap or similar. Kingman won very easily at the Curragh and a rematch with Night Of Thunder looks on the cards now in the St James Palace stakes. Obliterator rather surprisingly took his chance in the same race as connections said earlier in the week that if 'soft' was in the going he wouldn't run. He finished well beaten and I hope they haven't emptied him on ground he obviously hates, got to wonder whether it was owner over trainer decision there. I had Hot Streak on my list but I do like Pearl Secret too and when the ground eased I plumped for the Pearl. Should of stuck a reverse forecast on in hindsight!!. Hot Streak looked very good here and will no doubt contest for top honours in all the big sprints this season. Wouldn't mind seeing Pearl Secret over 6f in future. Cloudscape a non runner so no change to thread total. 107.4

  14. Re: The Progressives thanks Stewart. I'm tempted to back him as 11/2 seems fair enough. I've a few in here on my list and could make a case for each of them. Bilimbi(too short), First Flight(better ground will suit and weight swing against WAC) and Zarwan(CD maiden win, up in trip will suit) Think if it rains more before the race I might have a few quid on him but for the thread I'm just trying to be more selective and as confident as i can be before posting. Yesterday I had 8 runners on my list and 4 won but I was more confident in the one I posted on here which lost! By the way Cloudscape is a non runner today now but Wrangler is too short and Devilment appeals more at the prices as not many of Applebys have won first up so improvement is likely.

  15. Re: The Progressives Dutch Rifle didn't figure much at all, will keep an eye on him especially when punted. 107.4 4.20 Haydock Cloudscape, Can't believe he gave his true running last run and connections reach for the tongue tie today. His previous form reads very well and hopefully this slight class drop and TT can resume his progress. He also steps up another 1.5 furlongs which should suit. Wrangler was on my maiden list and won doing handstands last run, he could be good but has to prove it first. Devilment is himself quite progressive and could be a danger. 1pt win @ 9/2(BOG)

  16. Re: The Progressives I was bit worried about the ground changing to soft by the time of the race but it mattered not to Elite Army who won really well despite pulling Fallons arms out for most the journey. If he does learn to settle more he could be the good one I thought he would be. Warrior of Light ran on late after being outpaced , he was probably unsuited by both the ground and slow pace in the race and is definitely one to keep on right side of back on quicker ground. 2pts staked 5.05pts returned(R4) 108.40 +8.40 4.15 Haydock (friday) Dutch Rifle, created a good impression when winning(well backed) on his debut at Wolverhampton. Dutch Art offspring do well here at Haydock and trip and Good or firmer ground ideal, 79 looks workable although not entirely a blot. 1pt win @9/2(BOG)

  17. Re: The Jockey Thread

Charlie Appleby has 2 runners in the same race tomorrow' date=' Buick on one and Moore on the other. Barzalona rides in the same race but not on either of the Appleby horses. I know Appleby was going to use other jockeys when available but surely this is a huge two fingers to Barzalona and he should be looking for a new stable to ride for.[/quote'] Not before time imo. I think something happened or was said after Cavalrymans defeat in Dubai when Barzalona on Songcraft hemmed in SDS on Cavalryman effectively costing him the race. Maybe it wasn't that incident but Barzalona hasn't ridden a Bin Suroor horse since and rumours of change were surfacing then. Dont think personally that SDS has done much wrong to lose his No1 status though.
  18. Re: The Progressives 7.35 Sandown I've a right headache in this race as I've a few in here that made the list. In the end I've decided to dutch two runners in the hope one of those does the business. Elite Army, Didnt run bad last run on soft ground but I'm hoping the switch to a firmer surface will see the Godolphin runner progress. He seemed to be a bit fresh too last run so with the fizz out off him he should be thereabouts. Godolphin also run Gold Trail who's also on my list but may just need this first run of the season as a lot of Applebys do. Warrior Of Light, Again ran well on seasonal reappearance and looked the winner a furlong out but just ran out of it by Godolphins Devilment. A slight drop in trip tomorrow and first try on turf for David Lanigan's High Chapparal colt. trappy race but I do think that both selections should be much better than their currrent marks in a few months time. 1pt win on each @ 9/2(BOG)

  19. Re: The Progressives Kind Invitation ran 3rd @ 12/1 but unfortunately a non runner reduced field to 7 which scuppered and e/w return. A much better effort than the comeback run on soft ground though and I think she can at least pick up a similar race over 1f0 to 12f. -1pt 105.35 +5.35

  20. Re: The Progressives Continental Drift was weak in the market and duly ran poorly. Typically Extremity and Bold Lass finished 1-2. -1pt 106.35 +6.35 3.30 Nottingham Kind Invitation, disappointed first run this season on soft ground but well bred and likely to better than 80 in time. Appleby's horses weren't running that well when this one ran but seem to be running a lot better now and coming on for their first run. There's a few more interesting ones in here and in particular Song Of Norway who caught the eye in maidens running on over shorter trips and now makes handicap debut up to 10f. .5pt e/w @ 10/1(BOG)
