Not really enthused much by the fixture list today although I can see there is some nice prices dotted about on certain teams. Bury 9/5 at home to leaders Scunthorpe, Bury have won their last 5 in a row and seem reinvigorated by the signing of James Vaughan. If they can keep him fit, he's a brilliant player, speaking from experience as a Huddersfield fan, he was brilliant for us, all action type player, scored some great goals but just couldn't stay fit. I loved him. I doubt you will ever see the 2nd placed team in a division so generously as Bury are today. Scunthorpe are in equally as good form with a few draws thrown in the mix, this could go either way, but I reckon the money should be on the home team.
Sheffield United are priced at 11/8 at Fleetwood. Again that's pretty generous on a form team and Fleetwood have no form to speak off, in fact their last win was against hapless Coventry 5 games ago. Think Sheffield United are worthy of further inspection here.
Finally, an in form Rochdale are priced at 12/5 at Charlton. Rochdale have been racking up the wins and points of late and are steadily climbing the table. Charlton seem to be the leagues draw specialists, so maybe that is might be a better bet but Rochdale have beaten some better teams than Charlton of late namely Millwall and Bolton. Might be a risky one but 12/5 is a good price on them.
    Speculative punt this one today.
    Good luck one and all.

@Kenton Schweppes, you know I'm a big fan of your picks and I have to agree with the Barnsley price. My only worry is that Villa have only lost 2 of their 9 matches so maybe a draw might be better to back.
I think Sheffield Wednesday will start to settle a bit now after a rocky start. Blackburn are relegation fodder already in my opinion.
I also think Cardiff versus Derby is a great option for lack of goals or a draw. Derby have only scored 3 goals this season and we have only scored 6 goals (two Shane Duffy OG's don't count!) so I can see a less than 2.5 goals being scored outcome here.

Just looking at the list there is one price that sticks out like a sore thumb and that's Barnsley at 2/1 against Villa at home and why are Villa 13/10? This is all skew whiff to me, what have Villa done to justify the favourites tag in this game? Granted Barnsley have lost their last two but Villa have done nothing, absolutely nothing lately, a creditable draw against Newcastle ok but this ain't enough for me. Not saying Villa can't win this game but I'm not convinced and Barnsley look like a mental price here!! They score plenty of goals, granted they concede them too but for me they've got to be worth backing.
In fact out of the whole Championship there is only Huddersfield priced up under evens (rightly so).....think there is some money to be made here.
Sheffield Wednesday are priced up at 5/4 at Blackburn, borderline value, granted no away wins as yet but if it's going to come anywhere, Blackburn could well be it. Admittedly, Wednesday seem to be making a meal of games of late, grabbing late winners, here there and everywhere but you've got to be confident they can overcome Blackburn.
Wolves 13/8 at rock bottom Wigan, I must say I'm quite taken aback by Wigan's struggle therefore one has to plump for Wolves here who have put in two decent wins in the last two games, away at Newcastle and at home to Brentford.
Barnsley 2/1, Wednesday 5/4, Wolves 13/8 pays 16/1....nice....although the way I've been performing of late, is it another stinker?

    Macclesfield v Wrexham

The value is starting to go on the home side, but at odds against I think they are worth backing. I wrote on Saturday that if Wrexham lost to Chester than Gary Mills would be out of a job. They managed to get a point although it was basically a game between two very mediocre sides who didn’t even manage a shot on target between them! Mills in his quotes after the game hinted that he knew his time might be up soon and I get the feeling that unless they have gone on a long unbeaten run prior to losing then the next defeat will be his last game in charge. It might well come here at Macclesfield who are having a solid season and are already 5 points in front of their visitors. They have won four of their last five with the defeat coming to Eastleigh where they probably deserved something from the game. It is clear that Wrexham’s problem is scoring goals with only 9 in 11 games so far. On Saturday they could have played all afternoon and they wouldn’t have scored. Away from home they haven’t been great defensively either letting in 11 in 5 games having lost 3 of them. Macclesfield look better and it might well be that one goal will be enough here and Marathon’s 21/20 is the right side of value.

    Hemel Hempstead v Whitehawk

It is no surprise that Whitehawk are improving fast now Richard Hill is in charge and he has brought massive changes to the squad. It was needed and he has brought good players into the squad. They have won their last two league games and beat East Thurrock in the FA Cup which I tipped up. I was going to put them up again on Saturday, but the price had gone and I must admit I am surprised they are as big as they are to win this. Hemel have also improved of late after a shocking start to the season and they are unbeaten in four league games. They did need a 2nd attempt at getting past Herne Bay who are two levels below them though. There have been an amazing 29 goals in Hemel’s last 6 games (scored 13 conceded 16) and with Whitehawk looking strong up front and solid defensively I think they have a clear edge in that regards. They also blew a 2-0 lead and a 3-2 lead to Bath on Saturday. Marathon are just over 2/1 on an away win and that looks a tasty price.

    Billericay v Folkestone

The home side only won one of their first six league games, but they have won their last three scoring 10 goals in the process. Folkestone didn’t start too badly back in the Ryman Premier, but they have only won one of their last six games and they lost 6-1 to Dulwich on Saturday after going a goal up as well. With Billericay in good scoring form and Folkestone’s defence looking dodgy I think Betway’s  6/5 looks a solid bet.

    Buxton v Corby

I am taking a bit of a flyer with a couple of bets in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier. Corby have had a bit of a nightmare start to life after being relegated from the National League North last season. It took until Saturday for them to register their first win in the league. Now on the face of it you would think I was crazy to want to back them away at top of the table Buxton, but there are two important points. First of all the win was against Blyth Spartans who are 2nd in the table. They looked like they would blow a 3-1 lead as Blyth got it back to 3-3 with goals in the 87th and 89th minute, but fair play to Corby as they found an injury time winner. That takes some doing for a side who had yet to win this season against such a good team. The second point is for some reason the reverse fixture was played on September 17th and Corby put in a very good performance to get a 1-1 draw. On league positions it is easy to see why Buxton are 4/9 shots, but based on their last two games Corby are clearly a much improved outfit and the 31/5 that Marathon are going is way too big. Buxton also lost on Saturday to Ilkeston who had lost 3 of their first 4 league games. Obviously it is going to be a hard game for Corby, but if they play like they have the last twice then they should be around 2/1 shots not over 6/1!

    Matlock v Frickley

I was kicking myself a bit on Saturday as I had Frickley on my shortlist, but left them out of the bets. They duly won their 3rd game on the bounce having lost their first 6 games. Again we clearly have a side who have improved massively of late, but the bookmakers are still pricing them up on league position and the fact they had 1 point after 8 games. Now the three wins and the draw before it have all come at home so there is a small concern that they won’t continue the run away from home, but given they haven’t had a chance to prove it one way all the other, I am more than happy to take the 7/2 with Betway. Matlock have won 3 drawn 3 and lost 3 and that record pretty much sums them up. I doubt there is much between these two sides and that makes the 7/2 a massive price.

Going to take a treble of 3 aways today, Newcastle 6/4 at Villa, Sheffield United 19/10 and Doncaster 7/5.
Despite Newcastle's aberration at home to Wolves last Saturday, away from home they are extremely good of late and I can see them having no problems with Villa today who look totally lost in The Championship at the minute. I think Newcastle will win today no sweat.
Onto Sheffield United, can they really be ignored after 4 consecutive wins? I don't think so, we have all been waiting for them to take off under Chris Wilder and now they have. Granted Scunthorpe are formidable opponents today but they are bang in form and will be looking to maintain the momentum.
Doncaster, this could be a banana skin but Donny have a great away record, true Luton have only lost once at home but I'm not conviced by Luton, they put in some daft results at times, they lost at home to Grimsby last time out and a defeat at Crawley too.

here we go my accumulator picks for this bloody weekend are
    £10 will return £10.000
brighton to beat burton - after beating  huddersfield it should give them lift to beat the wannabes
blackburn to beat rotherham -   go to be on home team because they are very similar and blackburn are desperate to get one win already, just to edge it
barnsley to beat reading - wow is there way of stopping barnsley. i don't think so, they are flying and should score here as they have done in all games so far
sheff utd to beat peterborough - i feel there is a little buzz around sheffield. their form has improved. they should wrap this one up at home
coventry to beat oldham - i'll give coventry the benefit of doubt because they must be desperate to win. one goal should do it
cambridge to beat morecambe - cambridge need a huge performance and i think they will be up for it. it won't be easy for visitors
blackpool to beat carlisle - home side to edge going for promotion as carlisle never look like winning drew 5 out of 7
huddersfield to beat qpr - visitors have lost their way a lot and coming to huddersfield on the back of trashing not easy to bounce back
swindon to beat bury - swindon win their home games more often then not so gotta go with them. i think bury have rode their luck enough
    good luck

Some varied selections there, @gogetta. Interested to see how they do. You've had some decent tips in other leagues across the world so let's see if you are as prolific in the Football League!
@aliando, I didn't know you were a Bluebird! Great to see another one on here! I was initially very pessimistic about our dealings during the transfer window but remembered how many signings we've made. I'm still not happy that we've lost Fabio and David Marshall but the signings of Emyr Huws and Joe Bennett are very shrewd. I still think our very weak keeper situation will cost us but I think we have enough to stay mid-table. We won't challenge the play-offs though. If we do then Paul Trollope is a genius.
@Kenton Schweppes, bet you're loving David Wagner winning Manager of the Month. Definitely means your lot are on for a barren September! Hahaha. Some nice tips there. Agree with those first two as well. Bristol City at that price is brilliant. Signing Tammy Abraham on loan was a master stroke.

Instantly, there are two prices that stand out like sore thumbs in The Championship as being good value, Bristol City 5/4 at Rotherham and Newcastle 17/10 at Derby. got to fancy Bristol, Rotherham are leaking goals willy nilly, granted the loss of Kodija to Derby is a big loss, bit Rotherham's defence is so porous I think they have more than a decent chance here. Bit mystified by Newcastle's price they seem to be hitting their stride nicely now after a shakey start. Derby have been out splashing the cash on a couple of new strikers in the international break but will it pay instant dividends? Think Pearson is on borrowed time their if he can't turn it round, talk about having a sluggish start to the season.
Going to let you into an interesting stat here that is probably worth a bet tomorrow that I bet no one has picked up, Leeds v Huddersfield, the last 10 fixtures between the 2 clubs has seen over 2.5 goals in every game and Sky Bet are offering over 2.5 goals at evens. I genuinely think this is worth backing. To be honest, on paper, the 6/4 on us looks good and on paper we should win but I would avoid backing us, as anything could happen and generally tends to in this fixture.
Onto League One, only one price catches my eye here and that's Sheffield United at 6/4 at Wimbledon. A bad start but United have won their last two games and one of them an away win at Gillingham, not an easy place to go. They could be worth a closer inspection.
Swiftly onto League Two, I see Morecambe are being offered at another crazy price, why I don't know? Leyton Orient are being offered at 23/10 up at Carlisle and I think that is worth a dabble. Other decent prices are evens on Plymouth and Luton and Mansfield at 11/10.

    Dover v Forest Green Rovers

Quite why BT Sport thought it was a good idea trying to compete with the Glasgow and Manchester Derbies I don’t know, but this game is live on BT at 12.15pm. I’m really interested to see how Forest Green get on and I think they are worth backing. As I said last week they really have hit their stride now and even though they weren’t impressive in their first three wins, they have looked impressive in their last 3. Granted they only beat Chester 2-1 last weekend, but they were very comfortable and they should have won by more. Dover have shown glimpses of last season’s form when they got to the play-offs (losing to FGR in the semi-finals), but they have also struggled at times, with the 4-1 loss to Boreham Wood being the pick of those. They look just the sort of side who could give any team in the division a strong test at their best, but will end the season in mid-table as they lack consistency. Forest Green should be favourites for this and I was surprised to see 2/1 (Bet 365 and Marathon) available. It certainly isn’t a gimmie for the away side, but that price is just too big not to take advantage of.

    Aldershot v Chester

I suspect every tipster going will be tipping up Aldershot this week because they are the obvious bet of the week. Aldershot are 4/4 at home having scored 8 and conceded just once with that goal being scored by Tranmere last week. Tranmere were probably a little unlucky not to get something from the game, but to be fair it was still an impressive performance from Aldershot. They now need to follow that up by beating a Chester side who have only managed one point in four away games so far and that came thanks to a wonder goal at Boreham Wood. Indeed apart from Chester’s two big wins at home they have looked pretty poor so far this season. Obvious bets don’t always win and I don’t always like tipping them up, but at the end of the day the 5/6 (Ladbrokes and Bet Victor) looks a massive price and I would have them in the 8/13 area so I have to get involved.

    Eastleigh v Southport

Eastleigh weren’t at their best last weekend against North Ferriby, but then they didn’t really need to be and they covered the -1 handicap for us by winning 2-0. I am putting up the same bet again this weekend as they host a mangerless Southport side who have conceded 15 and scored just twice in losing all 4 away games so far. Southport are now looking for their 9th manager in 3 years and they really need to get the appointment right if they are to survive in this division. In the short term though it is hard to see them getting anything out of this and Eastleigh should cover the -1 handicap again. Paddy Power go 11/10 about them doing so.

    Alfreton v Harrogate

They have been a staggering 40 goals in Alrefton’s last 6 matches which averages out at nearly 7 goals a game! On those stats I certainly wouldn’t put anyone off betting on goals again in this one, but the bet I am putting up is Harrogate to win at a huge 31/20. Alfreton have lost 4 of those 6 games and they are struggling to fill the bench. They had just two subs last Saturday and only three in their 5-3 defeat at Worcester on Tuesday night. Harrogate are still unbeaten and bar a 94 minute penalty from Curzon last Saturday, they would have won their last 6 games. They have got a very good side this season and look sure to be in the promotion hunt in what is a very tough National League North this season. I make them odds on shots to win this so at the price they look the best bet of the weekend. There will probably be plenty of goals, but I will take a 1-0 away win!

Sorry probably didn't make myself clear. I know you didn't ask me to name my stakes, I was more saying that I don't like to reveal because it doesn't really matter. Yes some people punt for fun and I certainly have fun or interest bets from time to time, but everyone should be trying to make money no matter how big or small a punter they are. I just want people to win money and to punt as effectively as possible. If you fancy 3 1/2 shots then I fully understand why you would do a treble and I do from time to time, but to fancy a team who were a best price of 7/2 and only back them in a treble seems silly to me.

I don't think stakes should come into it. If you want to win money no matter how small the amounts you are putting on then singles are the way to go. I don't like saying the amounts I put on because it is all about how much you can actually afford, but I certainly would say I was a large staking punter. If you have a set amount you can afford to bet each week then you need to best split the stakes over the selections you come up with. Maybe pick one team out each week and then do a small acca alongside it if you would prefer, but don't think because you aren't a big staking punter that you shouldn't be betting in singles. You landed a 31/1 4 fold last week which was very good, but think about how big those odds are. Would you back a football team if they were 31/1 to win? Bookies hate punters who bet in singles, but they love punters who bet accas, which is why they push them so much. That should tell you all you need to know.

That is why singles are the way to make punting pay. You picked out Aldershot at over 3/1 and I have no idea why you didn't do them in a single. Look at my 3 bets today all at around even money. If I had just done a treble I would have done my money, instead I did 3 singles and a small bet on the treble and I am in profit.

England League 2: Luton - Wycombe

I was surprised that Luton Town managed to keep hold of all their promising youngsters in the transfer window, that shows great ambition , infact, they strengthened with the good looking additions of winger Alex Gilliead (Newcastle United) and left-back Jack Senior (Huddersfield Town), Gilliead played a full season at L2 last season and should hit the ground running, adding goals and assists. The Hatters now look a very strong squad and anything less than a serious promotion push is going to be viewed as failure. They are a big club at this level and I spoke about that ahead of a trip to Dagenham last season under old boss John Still .........

"Town are a very big club in League 2 terms and simply have to be, at the very least, challenging for promotion, a run of four games without a win ( five in all competitions) has left them down in 15th place and whilst that is "only" six points adrift of the play off spots, this feels very much like draw a line in the sand time and a match the Hatters have to find a way to win.

In comparison, Daggers are tiny, operate on small crowds and a similar sized budget and the fact that they have been a Football League club for nine years and even enjoyed one single season in League 1 is almost solely down to one man and that is Luton boss John Still, who vitually single handedly overhauled the club from top to bottom, saved them from relegation out of the Conference, took them into the FL and then even L1 and did so on a playing budget most managers would have looked at and thought it was the expenses for the ball boys and tea ladies ! Daggers have always stayed within budget, which meant even by Conference standards it is small and they have to sell to even stick to that and what Still did at the club was simply amazing. He knows everyone at Dagenham and I am talking about everyone, including probably half the supporters by name, actually Still knows almost everyove in football, but his heart, or at least a large part of it remains in this corner of East London and speaking about returning this week, it has been almost too painful and he said he just wants to go, play and leave as soon as possible. I guess it is like seeing an old girlfriend you still have feelings for .

It is not his first return, Town took four points from the h2h meetings last year, drawing 0-0 here, where they played an hour with ten men following a hotly disputed sending off and were later denied what looked a stonewall penalty, that and Town's need for all three points will ensure that there is not too much sympathy, at least on the pitch and the visiting supporters who are going to form at least 50% (1,200 advance tickets sold) of the crowd, can make the trip home happy. Team news is not overly important, the Town squad is on another level, but it is worth noting that Craig Mackail-Smith has busted a gut to get fit for this, he was more or less the first signing that Still made at Dagenham, joining from what was basically 8th tier football (!), he went on to make two big money moves and a good living from football and turned down the offer of League 1 football from at least two clubs to play for his former boss once more. CMS is desperate to play one more time at tiny Victoria Road.

Town have been getting into good positions, but not seeing out games well, they have led in two of the last three and were level entering injury time in the other and yet only took one point from those games and that has to stop, a free midweek and the extra day to prepare solely for this will have helped after six games inside 21 days previously and I feel we will see a very focused performance from the visitors today."

Town won that 2-0 ,but Still didn't see the season out and is now back at Daggers, his replacement Nathan Jones had the second half of 15-16 to sort things out and has had plenty of time to build, he has two years left on his contract, but probably knows it has to be this season he makes his mark and he has been given big support by the board.

Wycombe are struggling financially and have not been done andy favours by a massive injury crisis, despite winning in the EPL Trophy in midweek, the squad named highlighted their issues, they could not fill the bench, it included two players they dare not risk and their 43 yo head coach Gareth Ainsworth, who was one of two substituions made. They have around a third of their squad unavailable and they will struggle to take anything from this fixture.

I don'the know but whoever they are playing they seem to be priced up at 2/1 plus most weeks, they were 16/5 last week at Accrington. Not sure they'll continue to remain at the top though but not sure what method the bookies are using to price them up.

I wouldn't be confident posting a win on these games. The best prices are to be found in League 2 and leaders Morecambe are being offered at 12/5 at home....what's that all about?
Sky Bet are offering Carlisle at evens at home to Accrington Stanley. Stanley have been dire this time around and Carlisle have had a decentish start, this a decent price, worth taking as I suspect on the high street you won't get this.
After a shaky start Doncaster 6/5 have won their last 3 in the league and they are nicely priced tomorrow away at Crewe, Alex seem to be the draw specialists so the draw might be worth looking at here but I'll plump for Doncaster in this one.
Mansfield host rock bottom Cambridge and are priced at 23/20, bit surprised that Cambridge are bottom if truth be known but they aren't bottom for nothing. Mansfield have yet to string two wins together and secured an impressive away win at Leyton Orient last time out. Home win here.
After opening the season with 2 defeats, last years defeated play off finalists Plymouth are coming into tomorrow on the back of 3 consecutive wins and are priced at 11/10 tomorrow against Cheltenham.
The only other price in this league that is of interest is Colchester at home to Exeter, 21/20 they are priced at, they have made a decent fist of this league since being relegated and if you were unsure on Plymouth you could swap them round.
I'm going to plump for a 4 fold of Carlisle, Doncaster, Mansfield and Colchester pays 18/1 with Sky Bet.
