Might as well resurrect this thread since the Welsh started today, let's see if Luca's miserable season continues though if he loses to Jun he should really retire! Judd would rather go on holiday and Ronnie comes up with another lame excuse when he would have had a decent chance of cementing his number-one ranking this week.

The World Grand Prix starts tonight, some brief thoughts from me on the tournament; which is unique on the tour as players must start each leg on a double, which makes for an interesting twist. Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price come in as the favourites, both generally available at 4/1. it’s then 9/1 Michael Smith, 10/1 Luke Humphries and 20/1 and bigger the rest.
I think Price is the most likely winner of the event, but the 4/1 odds aren’t very tempting, particularly as he faces a very tricky first round tie against Danny Noppert. I reckon six-time champion van Gerwen has been handed a relatively easy draw, none of the other seven players in his quarter are in particularly great form right now, so I can see MvG reaching the semis without too much difficulty, but I’d prefer to play a couple of players at bigger odds.
The first is Gary Anderson at 22/1 with Coral (25/1 is available if you have a Betway account). The Scotsman played really well at the recent set of Players Championship tournaments, and is in pretty buoyant mood after taking the title in the last of those events. Doubling is even more important in this tournament, and only Price and Clayton (in this field) are hitting a higher percentage of doubles than Anderson on the Players Championship Tour this year. The former two-time World Champion has nothing to prove to anyone, and seems to be enjoying his darts again - if the Gary Anderson of the last week can turn up on the big stage in Leicester, he has to have a chance this week.
The other player I like is Dave Chisnall, to be honest I was torn between Chizzy and his potential second round opponent Luke Humphries, but Chisnall at 20/1 is double the odds of Humphries. Chisnall is another player in form, picking up a Players Championship title in the last week, and also winning on the Euro Tour eight days ago. Chisnall is a twice beaten finalist in this event in the past, hopefully he can go one better this year.

1 winner and 1 terrible bet on rubbish old Alfie Burden.
Just the one main bet today and it's Dom Dale to beat Mark Joyce. Won the last head-to-head 4-2. Joyce looks pretty average at the start of this season. One win over Pinhey but a 2-2 draw with Ibrahim and defeats from Jiahui (3-0) and most recently Lam (5-3).
Dale lost to Milkins in his first match and then won a couple of matches that he was expected to. However, he beat McGill most recently 5-2 and I think he edges it.
5.5pts Dale to beat Joyce 10/11 Willhill

Double: A Zverev 2-0 v Luca Van Assche + JJ Wolf +1.5 Sets 1.96 Pinnacle (NAP) Luca Van Assche has done well to reach his maiden ATP tour quarter final. However, I see his run ending here as I just don’t see what weapons he has to hurt the Zverev game really. Zverev has the upper hand on the serve and will certainly have more power from the baseline. I backed Zverev last week to win in straight sets in Bastad and he let me down but I would be surprised if he did it again here especially with the home crowd behind him. I backed Koepfer to beat Evans yesterday and it was extremely lucky. Evans was in complete control and missed match points as well as failing to serve it out. He also lead 4-1 in the 3rd set as well before losing 5 games in a row. JJ Wolf should be winning this one comfortably really but I will pick him to just win a set here to increase the odds in the double.   A Popyrin to beat D Prizmic 2.0, Skybet (NB) I backed Popyrin earlier in the week and I will stick with him again here. Had a really good result beating in form Ofner 6-4 6-1 last round, winning 76% of service points and only facing 1 break point. He is up against local youngster Dino Prizmic, who looks to have a very bright future at just 17 years old. However, this is a big step up for him from previous opponents and will be facing a player with a massive kick serve which he may struggle to contain. The crowd will certainly be with Prizmic but that sometimes can be added pressure especially for such a young player. Popyrin will need to continue to serve well and avoid large amounts of unforced errors. If he can do that he should have too much power in this one.   A Zverev v L Van Assche Under 20.5 Games 1.95, Pinnacle As per above I see a routine victory here for Zverev. I struggle to see Van Assche being able to reach 5 games in a set with the way Zverev has been playing so far this week. I see something like a 6-4 6-3 at best really.   L Siegemund -1.5 Games v L Stefanini 1.93, Unibet I’ve been waiting to go against Stefanini this tournament but the opponents she faced just were not quite good enough for me to feel confident on. However, I now feel she will meet her match in Siegemund who has looked good so far in her opening 2 matches especially when previously beating 4th seed and 38th ranked big hitter Lin Zhu 6-4 6-4. Siegemund is a crafty player and often uncomfortable to play against. Could be some long rallies in this match but I do feel Siegemund will hold the edge with the better serve, although there will likely be quite a few breaks in this one.   Long Shot: A Popyrin 2-0 v D Prizmic 3.30, William Hill As per above I feel Popyrin will be too strong in this one and will have a small play on the straight set victory. If he plays as well as he did against Ofner this should have a decent chance.   I was also leaning towards Arnaldi and Eubanks games handicap today but will just stick with the above.

nice easy one. Jun winning 5-1. Another day, tomorrow, of un-exciting matches. One selection that I'll go with is Liu Hongyu to beat Hammad Miah. 8/13 doesn't fill me with excitement though so I'll chance him to win -1.5 at even money. Miah is a bit of a streaky player who can give most a game on his day but he had a draw against Stan Moody, a 3-1 loss to Junxu and a 2-2 draw with Wu Yize in the Championship League group stage. He played some decent stuff against Wu Yize most recently, though.
Liu Hongyu beat Peng Yisong 3-1, David Lilley 3-0 and Ricky Walden 3-1 in his initial group at the Championship League. He qualified for the Semi-Finals and also beat Carty 3-1, and drew with Wells 2-2. He lost his initial match in the semi-finals to Saengkham and was a whisker of a way to making it through to the final.

    A winner yesterday.
Not a whole lot today but I will go with Jun to beat Pagett. Pagett looked pretty hopeless last week and lost 3-1, 3-0 & 3-0. With one 57 break (his only 50+ break of the three matches)
Jiang Jun was the World under 18 Snooker champion back in 2019, aged just 13. He beat Gao Yang in the final of that tournament and Yang is a half decent player himself. He also beat Jianbo along the way. Another player who has had some success on the circuit.
4 years later and just 17 years old he has just got a 2-2 draw with Ryan Day and beaten Jain 3-0. Losing to White 3-1. He has shown more in those 3 matches than Pagett has done for quite a while.

    M Arnaldi -2.5 Games v F Cobolli 1.80, Pinnacle (NAP)
I’ve been really impressed with the improvements of Arnaldi over the past 12 months. He has been incredibly consistent and this season has very rarely lost to anyone on clay when favourite this year. He is 2-1 up in the head to head but all matches were close, although they have not played against each other for almost a year so it will be interesting to see how much Arnaldi has now improved. Cobolli had a decent win in the opening round against Cilic but he was coming back from knee surgery and hadn’t played since January so not sure how much you can take from that one. Arnaldi for me is playing the much better tennis at the moment so I am expecting to see an easier win this time around.
    Double
    M Andreeva 2-0 v Bondar x L Musetti 2-0 v J Kovalik 2.10, Bet365 (NB)
Andreeva looked excellent in her 1st round 6-0 6-2 win back on clay after a great debut Wimbledon. Bondar was lucky to beat Babos last week before being beaten easily 6-3 6-0 to Avanesyan. Andreeva’s movement especially on this surface is so good I just don’t see what Bondar can do to even make this one close really. It would take a massive off day from Andreeva to not win this comfortably. I backed Musetti on the handicap yesterday and he looked good. The defending champion will want another strong performance here against a player who was heavily beaten in qualifying. He may have already known he was going to be a lucky loser but either way I suspect Musetti should win with relative ease.
    F Coria -1.5 Games v M Huesler 1.94, Pinnacle
Huesler has had a pretty average year and has barely put together any strong results on clay throughout the season. In fact he has only won two matches on the surface against Edmund (pretty much lost to everyone this season) and Mena (ranked 368). Most of his wins have come on indoor hard so this being a slow clay court will heavily favour Coria who will continue to get balls back and make Huesler play. Coria won the only previous head to head match 2 years ago, also on clay in 3 sets. On Coria’s preferred surface and after performing well last week in Bastad I think he should be confident in his chances to progress.
C Eubanks to beat B Nakashima 2.0, Betway
I was expecting Eubanks to start the favourite in this match given his form over the past couple of months. Nakashima has not had the best of seasons and will have to return incredibly well against the big Eubanks serve in order to try and force the errors. Eubanks went to college in the area so will be used to the conditions as well which could be a big help being so hot and humid. Will likely be a close match with the possibility of a tie break or two but I like Eubanks chances here with his serve and powerful baseline game. Think he should be priced at 1.85/1.90 so happy to have a small play at these odds.

Daria Saville to beat Tamara Korpatsch at 2.00 with Bet365
Back again with Saville, as I feel that Korpatsch is tremendously overrated at the moment, she's very average in all respects, and struggled heavily in R1. Saville has shown a lot of fight and the comeback trail could very well continue here.

The second tournament of the new campaign but the first that the players take seriously, in some respects. Not too much to get excited about today but one bet I will be taking is Michael White to beat Jak Jones. They get started at 2:30 pm BST.
White beat Jones only five days ago at the Championship League (3-1)  and Jak Jones was pretty average. Jones qualified from his group but it was a weak one. He beat Jamie Jones, Rebecca Kenna and and drew with Dean Young. Once he entered a slightly better group, he lost to Sam Craigie, and Michael White and only drew against Long Zehuang.
White has already hit a couple of centuries in his first two matches this season. He beat Jun, Day and Jain all 3-1 and has only lost to Sam Craigie, himself. Craigie has been in decent form so early on, so it's not embarrassing for these two to lose to him. Both also drew with Zehaung. It should be a close match but White looks to be the value and seems to be scoring better, when in.

Emiliana Arango (-3.5) to beat Himeno Sakatsume at 2.02 with Pinnacle
Arango has played herself into a very solid form, having faced some good opposition, while Sakatsume hasn't really played outside ITFs so far this season, and she hasn't played in Europe yet, either. I'd be quite surprised to see a different outcome than Arango win here, hopefully it's by a decent margin as well!

Martina Trevisan to beat Viktoria Hruncakova at 1.55 with Pinnacle
Hruncakova - formerly Kuzmova - is having an awful season, as she's fallen out of the main tour and is now struggling even on the ITF one. Trevisan, on the other hand, is holding steady around the top 20, and I think that she has an even bigger edge than the odds suggest.

Miomir Kecmanovic to beat Lorenzo Musetti at 2.00 with William Hill
Miomir looks like the bet for today to me, he's been on the up recently, while Musetti has been going down for a while now, and the rest time should be sufficient for Kecmanovic to have a better shot than the odds suggest imo. If you're losing to Muller on clay, you shouldn't be a fav against Kecmanovic.

I see 4 matches in the WTA that might be more contested than what the odds suggest.
    Tomova @4.5 vs. Collins
    Golubic @4.7 vs. Samsonova
    Rodina @4.7 vs. Linette
    Martincova @4.3 vs. Haddad Maia
I'm not saying that the underdogs will prevail in the end, but one or a couple of them might come close, leaving some room for going all green.

    William Hill:
Christian Garin to beat Giron @ -125
I've spoken about GArin. He is one of my players, and I doubted him last match. He sometimes starts slow, but he quickly grabbed form, and outclased TAbilo. I see similar type of scenario vs Giron who does not have the consistency and spin from the baseline. I also think Garin's serve can sometimes be especially potent, and he could rival Giron in a serving contest on a good day. I imagine that he has adjusted the courts now in Miami, and already has two matches in his belt. For me this is a no brainer.. If you don't like the Garin side.. there is no real way you can bet Giron, and be confident.

Christian Garin to beat Alejandro Tabilo at 1.79 with Pinnacle
I'm happy to take these early odds, as Garin did nothing wrong in the Indian Wells, where he beat Nishioka and Ruud before losing against Fokina. Tabilo managed to squeeze a win against the arguably tired Shevchenko in the previous round here, and Garin should be able to outlast and outplay him here imo. Much more class overall.

Straight into a new tournament today and the qualifications of the German Masters. Few matches kick off at 10am and one that I like in that time slot is Wu Yize to beat Xintong. Xintong was terrible against Craigie, really. Losing 6-3 but not hitting one 50+ break in that match. I've said it a million times but Xintong will either be amazing and or dire purely because he relies so heavily on his long game. We've not seen him play well since the English Open win over Bingham. Yize is a good player and well capable of a win here.

It's the fifth snooker ranking event and the first in the triple crown series and tomorrow we have a whole bunch of matches aswell as the other semi-final of the Champion Of Champions. I'll be looking to the experience of Alfie Burden against Liam Davies. Davies is a good up and coming prospect but it's a big match for him and he's flattered to deceive in the big time so far. Emery is playing some great stuff right now and beat Li Hang 4-0 recently and I fancy him to beat Duffy with a few to spare.
Finally, I think it's time to back Mink to push a player close and it comes against a good opponent in Ferg O'Brien. Ferg has lost all first round matches this season and has only won 3 frames in his last 4 matches. Losing the last 2 4-0. I wouldn't be surprised if Mink beat him. 13/2 is a huge price. She may not be a top quality player but she has great determination and wins a lot of frames that she shouldn't. She should get at least 3 frames in a first to 6.

I press reply too quick. I thought Fords 4-0 looked more flattering than it looked when he has the 1st frame in the bag and Ford needed snookers and he still let him win. Once he lost that frame, his head went and Donaldson isn't playing that great right now. I think Gilbert continues that form he showed against Saengkham, with 2 centuries and beats Ford. Yuelong is also scoring well and Murphy only hit 1 50+ break in his win. You wonder how much he practices nowadays
