Bathtime For Rupert got a reaction from yossa6133 in Racing Chat Monday 30 November
    All prices Bet365:
    12.45 Fakenham - 1pt e/w Bertie Blake @ 12/1
Has eased back down the weights after a purple patch last season and is off a decent mark now with his jockey taking 7lbs off. Was pulled up at Hexham last time but races there were extremely gruelling and most horses were stopping to nothing so I'm not too concerned about that. Shaped okay on seasonal reappearance whilst needing the run and now should be spot on with conditions to suit.
    2.20 Fakenham - 1pt e/w Achill Road Boy @ 8/1
Looks a big price for a horse who had a race won over c&d off a higher mark in the past before falling at the last and has been in decent form. Stays, is well handicapped and goes well here so surprising to see him at 8/1 here.
    2.30 Kempton - 1pt e/w Alambrista @ 12/1
Bred to be very decent with all of its half siblings securing black type and should know more today after its debut. Mark Prescott's wouldn't win first time out all that often so should progress nicely now and I don't think this is a strong contest.
    2.40 Ayr - 2pts win Ballydonagh Bay @ 5/1
Favourite won well last time but has gone up the weights as a result and I like Ballydonagh Bay here. Ex pointer who has run well over hurdles but the switch to chasing and the step up in trip both look huge positives and can land this.
    3.30 Kempton - 1pt e/w Misu Pete @ 14/1
Has form here, runs off a decent mark and hasn't shaped too badly lately. Went off too hard over a mile last time and although his last win did come over that trip, I think he'll go forward from stall 1 here and should find it easier to maintain a gallop down at 7f here.

    11.45 Newcastle - 1pt e/w Sir Charles Punch @ 14/1
Market not speaking in his favour but is decent enough and fairly consistent on the flat. Has looked a little bit one paced so a switch to hurdling could be the making of him. His dam was decent, there's stamina in the pedigree to suggest he won't mind two miles over jumps and looks a big price now with 3 places on offer.
    12.05 Doncaster - 1pt win Out for Justice @ 7/1
Down the weights and partnered with an experienced rider in this conditional jockeys' event, I like Out for Justice who has shaped like needing a couple of runs to come to the boil this season and has faced softer than ideal conditions on a few of his most recent outings. Conditions look spot on today for the first time in a while and off a good mark I think will go close.
    12.10 Newbury - 1pt e/w Midnight Ginger @ 12/1
Looks overpriced with 8 runners standing their ground as she's done nothing wrong in three starts to date - winning on debut in a bumper, running a solid race in a listed race at Cheltenham before winning cosily last week at Fakenham on hurdling debut. The sharp track nearly caught her out but she was well on top at the finish and this more galloping track looks sure to suit. Comes from a successful family and she will stay further so winning over a bare 2 miles at Fakenham was a good effort and although needing to step up on the bare form, I think she can do so.
    12.20 Newcastle - 1pt e/w Bollin Ace @ 10/1
Should be fully wound up now having fallen mid race on seasonal return and then only running okay when last seen. However, got too far back and I think with fitness now on side, this one has a chance off a decent mark. I'd like to see a positive ride as has raced prominently before and sees this trip out well so expect a decent run if holding a good early position.
    1.15 Newbury - 1pt e/w Cap Du Nord @ 8/1
Couldn't quite get into the race when running soundly in this contest 12 months ago but I don't think it's quite as strong this year and is 1lb lower with a further 3lb taken off by the jockey here. Is very ground dependent with virtually all of his good runs coming on a sound surface and conditions look ideal for him today, whilst coming here off the back of a solid reappearance run last time. Lots to like today.
    1.50 Newbury - 1pt e/w On The Wild Side @ 15/2
Surprised this one is as big a price as 15/2 as I think his mark of 128 looks a lenient one. Beat a now 135-rated hurdler in a bumper and then bolted up in a hurdle race from a horse who has subsequently gone in easily itself to achieve a rating of 120. Was an easy winner last time too, the extra yardage ought to not be a problem and ground conditions suit so can see nothing other than a huge run.
    3.00 Newbury - 1pt e/w Kildisart @ 15/2
Looks the one to be on for me having gone close at the Festival before running a more than adequate prep run for this over hurdles last time. Still looks off a decent enough mark on his win at Aintree last year and these conditions are spot on so difficult to see him out of the frame.

    11.50 Southwell - 1pt e/w Esspeegee @ 28/1
Market's saying not today and has to bounce back from a couple of poor efforts but had excuses last time and was too bad to be true at Newcastle when sent off with a favourite's chance the time before. Was previously in decent nick and conditions ought to suit today. Stays this far no problem and was a comfortable winner earlier in the year off a slightly lower mark. Wouldn't be involved at a short price but at 28s can be chanced.
    12.20 Southwell - 1pt e/w Wots The Wifi Code @ 17/2
Ran a poor race last time but it was horrible ground and was given a lot to do. This test promises to suit, the long straight should help, stays strongly at the finish and if handling the surface looks a live player at a decent price with a bounce back to form very plausible.
    12.41 Taunton - 3pts win Dorking Lad @ 3/1
Short price but I think he wins today. Was keen at Sandown when last seen but still came there cantering and looking the likely winner before fading into a 9 length 3rd in a decent race. If recovered now, this sharper track and better ground looks likely to suit and I think he wins here.
    1.11 Taunton - 1pt e/w Vinnie's Getaway @ 9/1
Simply putting a line through last time out. I don't think there were excuses or the trip was an issue going right up to three miles, I just don't think he was on a going day. The fact he was consistent before that outing gives me the impression he can bounce back quickly and on pedigree he looks a sure fire 3 mile horse so worth another go under these conditions at a nice price.
    1.50 Southwell - 1pt e/w Groupie @ 20/1
Shaped okay but in need of the run after a year off last time and ending up in midfield here but is right down the weights now and was in good form when seen before the absence, twice finishing strongly over 6f including on a visit here. Should strip fitter now and if not bouncing, looks a big price.
    2.33 Lingfield - 1pt e/w Mongol Emperor @ 12/1
Has shown promise under rules after a wide margin point success but needed the run first time out and shaped encouragingly behind a smart type last time. Given his soft ground pedigree and the fact his point win came on deep ground, the surface today can eek out some more with his stamina needing testing further when staying on without threatening when last seen. Looks a live each-way prospect.

    6.00 Wolverhampton - 1pt e/w El Hombre @ 8/1
Never run a bad race at this track, has run well the last twice including here two starts back. Is on a fair mark, decent draw and should get a good pace to run at over 5f here so lots to like with Venturous back up the weights and needing luck at the head of the market.
    6.30 Wolverhampton - 2pts win Gabriel The One @ 4/1
The favourite is clearly thriving and should enjoy the extra yardage but hasn't beaten much in its races to date so I'll side with the consistent Gabriel The One who is 1-1 on the all-weather when bolting up off 1lb higher at Newcastle earlier in the year. Hasn't been seen to best effect around Chester on his most recent runs and down the weights and back on the all-weather looks to hold big hopes.
    7.00 Wolverhampton - 1pt e/w Splash of Verve @ 10/1
More exposed than many of these but runs well here and will certainly handle conditions. For a modest type, it's never going to win when conditions aren't spot on and he's been campaigned over a mile a couple of times recently but his best form has come over 1m4f so it's a welcome return to this trip today. Should find this more up his street and is a big price at 10/1 given he's back in his comfort zone this evening.
    7.30 Wolverhampton - 0.5pts e/w Epaneema @ 33/1
Bit of a punt in a weak race but this horse has been tried in all sorts of races since joining this yard - bottomless ground handicaps, hurdles and all-weather staying races but its best run came in Ireland when 2nd in a 1m4f novice race on good ground and is well down the weights since then. Hasn't shown a lot but it's plausible that soft ground doesn't suit and will chance improvement now facing something more like when showing its best form.

    12.48 Uttoxeter - 1pt e/w Rintulla @ 8/1
Still quite lightly raced and shaped really well on handicap and chase debut last time, right in the mix before fading late on when entitled to need the outing. With fitness on side, looks a prime candidate for this on that evidence and its runs in decent novice hurdles previously. Looks on a fair mark and anticipating a solid effort this afternoon.
    1.03 Exeter - 1pt e/w  Fishy Story @ 28/1
Has a bit to find but ran okay back under rules last time when entitled to need the run. Prolific in points over the years including earlier this year and has beaten some decent types along the way in that sphere. These conditions ought to suit and with fitness now on side, wouldn't rule out a good run at a big price.
    1.33 Exeter - 1pt e/w Butterwick Brook @ 14/1
Still an unexposed type, the Colin Tizzard runner looks interesting upped to three miles on his second run over fences. Had a pipe opener over 2 miles when last seen when not showing much but entitled to need that and the trip was on the short side. This one looks fairly handicapped on some useful novice hurdling form last season and that included a solid run behind two nice types over 2m5f at Ascot. On that evidence, three miles is well worth investigating and looks a healthy price.
    2.08 Exeter - 3pts win Saint De Vassy @ 7/2
Quite a short price for me but I really think this one will win today. Tom Symond's horses couldn't be in better form and this horse has had excuses when pulled up on two of his last three runs. Burst a blood vessel last time and raced over 3 miles on another occasion which was too far. Inbetween those he was a clear 2nd to a very well handicapped horse and on that run should be capable of landing this.
    2.50 Wolverhampton - 1pt e/w Desert Mist @ 22/1
Didn't run well last time and market isn't speaking particularly favourably on handicap debut but would have a solid chance after a promising enough turf debut and then running well behind a well handicapped, thriving horse on its second start. On that evidence, this mark looks more than fair but does need to bounce back from last time out.
    3.38 Uttoxeter - 3pts win Java Point @ 10/3
Another short one but I was sure this one was going to win last time but was weak in the market and folded tamely late on having jumped and travelled well. Looked in need of the run on that evidence and market support is strong today. Is definitely well handicapped and these conditions are spot on assuming he's fitter now and I expect him to repay the faith now.

    11.35 Lingfield - 2pts win At Ease @ 9/2
Bit surprised by the uneasy nature of At Ease here - out to 9/2 but is totally unexposed after 2 starts and beat an 84-rated horse last time with the pair a long way clear (receiving 5lbs). Third start on handicap debut off 74 looks more than achievable and is from a family of nice types so looks worth staying on the right side of.
    12.40 Haydock - 1pt e/w Saint Xavier @ 12/1
A few of these will have long-term projects in mind and may not be fully tuned up for this contest so I'm willing to take a chance on Saint Xavier, who wasn't disgraced at 250/1 in the Charlie Hall when last seen. Has ability without being the easiest as seen when running away with a hurdle last year and following that up with a solid second. Has had excuses over fences so far but his mark is coming down as a result and this looks to suit a bit more so things could fall into place this afternoon.
    1.50 Haydock - 1pt e/w Flash The Steel @ 14/1
Still looks a bit of scope left in this one and conditions suit - was always staying on for 2nd behind Tea Clipper last time but had too much to do. Before that, ran a rock solid race in a competitive handicap at Cheltenham - a mistake at the last saw to his chances but still went pretty close and conditions suit here. A good gallop looks likely and that will suit so it looks a good each-way option.
    1.58 Huntingdon - 1pt e/w Dorking Boy @ 17/2
Flopped at Ascot over fences when last seen but was in form prior to that, running an excellent 2nd behind a better treated rival in a novice chase on seasonal debut. Has plenty of hurdling form last year so reverting back to this sphere after a poor jumping display looks a good move. Only 1lb higher than a comfortable win last year, has an amateur claiming 7lbs on board and should go well.
    2.25 Haydock - 2pts win Relegate @ 5/1
Choosing the favourite in a competitive race but he's a healthy price for a jolly and surely is up to winning a race of this nature when the cards fall right. Stays this trip well but is typically ridden from off the pace as when getting a long way back at the Cheltenham festival before storming home from 2 out. Shaped well over 2m4f in a good race on seasonal reappearance to set him up for this and if getting the breaks (looks sure to get a solid pace to aim at) can get a deserved success.
    3.17 Ascot - 2pts win First Flow @ 9/2
The favourite will have it tougher today off a higher mark just a week on from his win at Cheltenham and I like Kim Bailey's progressive charge. Hasn't had a run yet this season but I'm not too concerned about that with this one's connections and did very little wrong over fences last year. His rating hasn't got out of hand but conditions suit and I'm sure he can win races off marks in the 140s so will hope he can pick up where he left off.

    12.20 Ascot - 1pt win Up The Straight @ 10/1
Has a bit to find on figures clearly but in a 3 runner race I think he's worth chancing. I think he's a 140 horse over hurdles on his day including in novice races last year but has a big engine and looks the type to do well over fences. Has a run under his belt this year when staying on powerfully in a hot handicap hurdle at Cheltenham and with the favourite returning after a break and the second favourite not convincing with its jumping last time, I think it's worth chancing the outsider here who has untapped potential going chasing.
    12.30 Chepstow - 1pt e/w Master Grey @ 11/1
Seems a big price on hurdling debut in a fairly modest race with conditions likely to suit. Is an out and out galloper on the flat and is a heavy ground winner so assuming he jumps well enough, should keep grinding out in what's likely to be a slog. Question marks over several of the others in the field so at an each-way price, looks a reasonable bet.
    12.38 Catterick - 1pt e/w Ring of Gold @ 18/1
No great market support ahead of its hurdling debut but showed plenty of promise in four runs on the flat to secure a rating in the 70s and although his worst run was last time out, clearly has ability and shouldn't have an issue with this test. Has sufficient stamina in his pedigree and his dam was decent enough over hurdles too so looks an interesting recruit at a healthy price.
    1.13 Catterick - 2pts win Dido @ 7/1
Quite sweet on this one today as although well held in 4th last time, it's possible the trip was slightly too far and it was also in a much better race than this. Had horses rated in the 100s and 110s in front that day yet the highest rated runner in this contest runs off 96. Prior to that he ran a solid race over an insufficient trip on seasonal reappearance and ran behind some well handicapped rivals last year so everything looks to have fallen into place for this one today.
    1.30 Ascot - 1pt e/w Tile Tapper @ 8/1
Gets weight from those who have won races and I think holds a really solid chance here with market support a positive. Has run some rock solid races in bumpers including a few weeks ago which sets him up nicely for this. His bumper win at the end of last season saw him finish ahead of a horse who has subsequently run a 130+ rated hurdler close so the form stacks up and although this is hot, if he jumps, he can definitely be involved at the business end.
    2.05 Ascot - 1pt e/w Doitforthevillage @ 28/1
Has a bit to prove having never showed on seasonal reappearance but 2 miles on good ground was always likely to be on the sharp side and this will suit much better. Has to show he still retains ability but didn't run too badly on a couple of occasions last winter and his form in the spring of 2019 would give him a big chance here on a much reduced mark. If coming on for last time and refinding his spark, could go better than the price suggests.
    2.40 Ascot - 1pt e/w Et Meme Temps @ 10/1
Shaped well at Aintree on seasonal reappearance when racing keenly but being in with every chance until late on over 2m4f. That combination plus it being his first run of the season just saw him back out of things but the drop back in trip will suit here and was in good form last year. His close 2nd to a well handicapped horse at Carlisle bodes well and then ran a solid race at Cheltenham. Is a course winner and looks an attractive each-way proposition.

A good afternoon of decent, competitive jumps action today so a busy one. All prices Bet365:
    1.00 Market Rasen - 2pts win A Perfect Gift @ 7/1
I think this is a big price for a mare who has stamina as a strong suit and an extra furlong to contend with today at a stiffer track than last time. Was beaten by Sandymount Rose that day but the extra yardage and fitness back on her side will help her turn the tables and I'm sure she'll be up to this mark now her stamina is drawn out a bit more.
    1.10 Wincanton - 1pt e/w Annie Day @ 33/1
Wasn't up to much over 2m6f on hurdling debut but despite winning a point, I'm not sure she's a particularly strong staying type and the drop back to two miles looks more in her favour in my eyes. Wasn't disgraced in a bumper two starts back when presumably needing the run after a long break so hasn't had the chance to show her full potential yet. Her run behind Nada To Prada in a point reads well on that one's demolition of a field earlier this week and I think Annie Day is worth chancing at a big price now potentially getting ideal conditions.
    1.30 Market Rasen - 1pt e/w Minella Warrior @ 14/1
Was ultimately well held at Cheltenham last time but he went well for quite a long way to say they forced quite a good gallop that day and those who prospered generally were held up off the speed. Shaped better than he had been over fences and should find this contest easier this afternoon. Another few pounds down the weights and could strip fitter now too so no forlorn hope off a decent mark with conditions to suit.
    1.40 Wincanton - 2pts win Do Wanna Know @ 7/1
Ran a bit of a stinker on seasonal reappearance last time but you have to judge this one on the remainder of its consistent form and that could have just been an off day. Possibly wasn't suited by the ground (only other run on deep ground was a win, but at 1/25!) and looks well treated on novice form. Beat a horse who subsequently rated 132 over hurdles (and 139 over fences) and then was leading at 2 out when falling, battling it out with another horse who is rated in the 130s now. On that evidence, a mark of 124 in a handicap looks workable and if bouncing back, 7/1 could look a tasty price.
    2.33 Market Rasen - 1pt e/w I'dliketheoption @ 9/1
I backed this one last time and he ran better than the result suggested - was being kidded into the race when his jumping went to pieces and ultimately was pulled up late on. Is extremely well handicapped and this race is by far the easiest he's contested in a long time. Needs things to fall right but if his jumping holds together I'm hopeful he can keep tabs on this quality of horse and come into contention late on.
    2.42 Wincanton - 2pts win Jumping Cats @ 5/1
The favourite is well in but didn't beat much when winning last time so I'll take him on at the price. Jumping Cats looks interesting having shaped with some credit in novice races for all he's fairly modest. The bare 2 miles was too short a couple of starts back considering this one stays 2 miles on the flat and ran okay last time on ground possibly too soft for him. These conditions should suit better all in all and it's not the strongest handicap so looks capable of getting involved late in the day.
    3.12 Wincanton - 1pt e/w Getaway Fred @ 11/1
Was consistent in good novice hurdles last year before having little chance at the Cheltenham festival and was down the field in a hot novice chase at Uttoxeter when last seen. That came after a lengthy absence and I still don't think this one is an absolute mudlark even if he's been mainly campaigned in soft conditions. His action suggests he'll be just as good if not better on a sounder surface and there was promise on his chase debut even if he was left behind up the straight. Everything happened a bit quickly for him but he jumped well and should strip fitter now. I'd like to see them revert back to prominent tactics that served him well last year and going right handed will help too. Off a fair mark and I'm hoping he can bounce back today.
