  1. Re: BBOTD Monday 18th Oct Fair play to those who tipped Zenella - Hanagan had a good ride. Won at 10/1, didn't think it would drift that much. Must remember to take more notice of the Overall rating - this is definitely the most important number when it comes to better class horses.

  2. Re: BBOTD Monday 18th Oct First BBOTD post here. 4.10 Pontefract - Royal Exchange - 1pt Win @ 10/11 Betfred Hannon's 2yos have been in incredible form this year, he has enjoyed a massive 20% strike rate in 2010. Ryan Moore has been brought in taking the ride from Richard Hughes who's currently serving his ban. The form of the horse is well above the others in the race however Weapon of Choice and Zenella seem the obvious dangers. Weapon of Choice won a 1m maiden at Goodwodd fairly comfortably 8 days ago but was carrying a little less weight and there wasn't much else useful in the race. The bottom weight Zenella has Hanagan on board, however this filly doesn't have great form to be honest, and I can't see it quite getting up to win this one. The worry is that Royal Exchange will race too keenly and won't stay the step up in trip, but I'm fairly confident that Moore will overcome this and Hannon will have him ready.

  3. Re: ATR - Who are we? :welcome to me I'm 22 years old, and recently starting betting with my head. I worked in a bookies all through uni, which is probably the reason gambling took a while to get any kind of hold on me. I saw that in my bookies and all other bookies the punter, on average, loses. I think this was a good first lesson to learn - you gotta be smart. Of course, I didn't learn this overnight. I started betting footie accas to begin with, then Lucky 15s, then dogs, then only tips, etc. Nothing however seemed to make a profit. Biggest regret: Sticking 80 quid into a machine and losing it all. I remember thinking how much of a ******* **** I was. However, horses are pretty much the only thing I bet on now and have been for the past few months. These are my simple guidelines, I don't bet in cheap races (normally anything worth 6K or less to the winner). I prefer to stay away from handicaps. I also like to keep my stakes small (therefore I am mainly into multiples). If I can't pick between two horses, I back them both. Never follow the market blind. I like big meetings the best, with high value races. The reason for this is that you can be fairly sure that the horses are there to win. As you might have guessed, I bet mainly on the weekend and my total average stake on a Saturday or Sunday is around 20 quid. I normally use betfred because; I don't work there, I haven't got around to getting a betfair account and betfred normally offer best-odds on the races I want to bet on. Best Win: £3 Treble on Redford, Poet's Voice and Rainfall (all Frankie's rides, thanks mate) Paid £720 My betting plans are definitely working for me and I can happily say I'm the only punter I know that is in the black considering every bet I've ever had. I know that the odds are against me and maths says it won't last, but horse racing isn't all numbers. I ruffly follow this kind of staking plan: Pick around 5-7 horses (on form mainly) Do a £1 e/w acc A few £2-3 doubles or trebles or 4-folds. And two £5 singles. Today's picks were: Final Day won @ 11/8 Ouzbeck 3rd @12/1 Astracad won @ 9/4 Tazneez won @ 3/1 Dever Dream won @ 7/4 Imperial Guest 4th @ 10/1 Willing Foe won @ 11/10 Winning bets: £5 Double Astracad & Willing Foe E/W singles on Imperial Guest & Ouzbeck Didn't do the acc e/w - gutted. Ended up about £30 up. (Alright, not great for 5 out of 7, but oh well) (Had all 7 come in, it would have paid 61K) Some sayings I think are true: In racing, the past is the future. Bigger the field, bigger the doubt. Nobody has ever bet enough on a winning horse. Horses are like strawberries, they spoil overnight. My main aim is to continue making a profit over a full year. Then I might consider raising my stakes. However, I always do an acc, so I've always got a chance of winning big. Peace Walshy
