  1. Re: Record of the Year - Is it fixed? So we have Westlife, Boyzone and Ronan Keating (managed by Louis Walsh) Gareth Gates (managed by BMG) S Club 7 (was managed by Simon Fuller who invented Pop Idol) There won't be a book on it, but I would also have money on the show being produced by a firm associated either to Simon Fuller or BMG.

  2. Re: Record of the Year - Is it fixed? Thanks for putting those winners up Stereoman. It also made me realise why Liberty X didn't stand a chance. They were the group made up from the first failed Pop Idol/Group show. They waited until they were out of the contract with Simon Cowell BMG (all Pop Idols have to sign that if they release anything within a certain period of time it is with BMG and Simon Cowell's management company get a big vut) and did their own thing elsewhere with another label. They were bound to be the first ones off. Think about this some more. I know this is a cack competition but would so many covers really win it? And how did Kylie's "Can't get you out of my head" not win? It's a fix. I'm taking 9/2 on Will Young and 16's on Girls Aloud

  3. Re: Record of the Year - Is it fixed? I've just seen that on the Record of the Year home page that Simon Cowell is actually making an appearance on the show on Saturday. Question: How would Simon Cowell be making an appearance on the show unless he something to do with the production? The more I think about it the more I think there is a possibility that this whole thing is a big Simon Cowell, BMG records love in.

  4. I did a thread on the Record of the Year a couple of years ago tipping up Liberty X. Much to my amazement they got knocked out early before winning the Record of the Year in a more reputable competition. It was a ridiculous result and it really did get me thinking about this whole thing of this Record of the Year. I now ask you for your thoughts and hopefully if anyone can find information who one what in which year it may help. To my knowledge these are the recent winners of the competition: Ronan Keating Boyzone Westlife Gareth Gates S Club 7 Now I would be delighted for someone to prove me wrong before I lump on who I think who is going to win this competition. But don't all of the above acts have something to do with Simon Cowell, Simon Fuller, the diddy Irish fella and BMG records who seem to control our Saturday evening telly with Pop Idol and the X Factor?? ;) So who is in this year competition who are affiliated to those same people? Well they have two entries Will Young - Leave Right now 9/2 (Hills) and Girls Aloud - Love Machine 16/1 (Skybet) I know this a novelty market, but the past few results have been particularly dodgy and would be interested for anyone to post if my deductions above are correct regarding the links between the winners and those people who obviously have an awful lot of influence. I would also be interested to find out who runs this competition as I remember last year as part of the entertainment in the show the Cheeky Girls were on who also have links to this lot. And who would put them on a review of the music year? Interested to hear your thoughts on this and who is a decent defence lawyer :rollin

  5. Re: NFL Week 8 I am not stupid enough to think that the Pats won't be beaten this season, but by the way I don't think it will be this weekend. The Steelers have a rookie QB and are pretty banged up. If the Pats get home advantage through the play-offs which looks pretty good at the moment they would only have to play 2 games to win the AFC. I would expect their odds to win those home games at Foxboro to be about 2/9. I'll take the 3/1 for the Superbowl, rather than a 2/9 double.

  6. Re: NFL Week 8 Then why back Minnesota for the Championship? The NFC lacks the depth of the AFC and the Pats are the Kings of the AFC with their multi receiver short run passing game, get in front by the 3rd and let Corey Dillon run down the clock in the 4th and their defensive controlling strategy take the 3/1 to the bank.

  7. Re: NFL Week 8 Sorry Doc I don't rate Minnesota's defence at all, and if the Vikes win the Superbowl I will :moon on here, same for the Colts as well. For god knows how long now defence has won Superbowls, and the only teams you could rate on D are Baltimore, Miami, Pats, Jags, Buffalo and Denver. Carolina were good last year but seem to have lost the plot. I haven't put the Eagles in that bunch because last year they couldn't stop the run, their secondary was banged up and I'm not sure how good the opposition they have faced are to be honest. Actually I would go as far to say I don't rate the NFC teams at all! We will know more about the Eagles after this weekend's game against Baltimore.
