  1. Re: Sauna Sitting wtf is this about????????

It was hot dog eating. I noticed at the time there seemed to be a really long odds on favourite, about 1.15 or something, and I was wondering if the favourite/longshot bias applied in that sport. Hot Dog Hot Favourites system, anybody?
:lol That's right I remember now I think it may have been an American Independence Day event. Didn't they have prices on some other odd eating events too not just hot dogs ?
  2. Re: Suana Sitting wtf is this about???????? Looks like it's the World Sauna Championships :lol :lol . More info here :- http://www.scandinavica.com/culture/sports/sauna.htm It's unbelievable what you can bet on these days. I saw some markets on Pinnacle a few weeks back for some Pie-eating contest ?? :eek And the Chess markets they cover over there are really strange too. No world championship markets or anything like that just some poxy American club matches involving players no-one has ever heard of outside of the USA. Shouldn't knock it though. There was a guy on here many years ago now who used to clean up on the Danish Backgammon. Stereoman's the guy for specialist markets I'm sure he'll come along and give us the low down on the Sauna form. :lol

  3. Re: Restrictions on the naming of horses ?? That's interesting Bowles thanks. Your reference to Weatherby's gave me a better Google search which turned up this which also mentions where Red Rum comes from :-

The Naming of Racehorses In their early years before racing, Thoroughbred foals and yearlings don’t have their own names. Instead, they are referred to by their colour, sex and the name of their sire (father) and dam (mother). For example, the great Nijinsky would have been ‘a bay colt by Northern Dancer out of Flaming Page’. However, when a Thoroughbred is registered to race, its owners have to name it. Horses’ names are constructed in all sorts of ways. One of the most common is to try and combine elements from the horse’s sire and dam. Grand National legend Red Rum was by Quorum out of Mared, hence his name. Other names can reflect personal associations, such elements of the owners’ name or nickname, or even names which advertise a company. The naming of racehorses in Britain is very carefully controlled by Weatherbys, the company which oversees many administrative areas of the sport. Strict criteria are applied in judging what name a horse can and cannot be given. For example, horses names cannot be longer than 18 characters and spaces and names currently on the Register of Horse Names or names of horses who have won a major flat or jump race cannot be used (so there can only be one Best Mate or Shergar). And most famously, names whose meaning, pronunciation or spelling is obscene or insulting are prohibited.
  4. Does anyone know what restrictions there are on the naming of horses and who enforces them ? For example if I got a horse and raced it could it be named "Tony Blair is a prize c*ck" for example ? I would guess not as some people may be offended by that. But how about "Red Rum" ? Nothing offensive there but a lot of people might object to that name being used again. Has the name Red Rum been reserved for ever then as a name that cannot be re-used (perhaps by the racing board / Jockey club perhaps) ?? Be interested to know what the rules are. Did try a search on Google for it but couldn't find anything.

  5. Re: Losing Faith....

Mr Intensity asked :What was the system about mate?:D
There were 2 systems I was working with - one for the mens and a different one for the ladies. On the mens side I was mainly looking for "exposed" favourites and then backing against them. It was a bit subjective but I was looking closely at recent form on different playing surfaces / motivational news / shocks in the early rounds of tournaments etc. On the women's side it was the exact opposite. Here I think the form is much more predictable and I was backing favourites heavily. In the end when I stopped I was actually up with the women's system but my "hourly rate" was too low to make it worth continuing.
  6. Re: Losing Faith.... It sounds like you'll do OK if you just stick with Sports and forget the horses. It could be that horses are not your thing so you need to be quite ruthless and pragmatic about that and stop betting on them. At one time I had a fantastic tennis system that made a lot of money but then it stopped doing that for some reason. Of course I didn't let it go soon enough and it ended up losing me a lot of money because I'd "fallen in love" with the system and had "labelled" myself as a successful tennis tipster (in my own mind at least). As soon as I stopped betting on tennis things improved again and I now rarely go anywhere near the sport from a betting perspective. Remember there's always another bet round the corner in a sport you've got an advantage in. So just be patient and wait for the right opportunities for YOU to come up.
