Right, so it's apparently time for the last Grand Slam of the season. Usually, I'd be rather excited and thrilled for the event, but, somehow, I find it really hard to get my hopes up, as I've been a bit disappointed by this season so far. Not results-wise, not betting-wise, I don't know what it is, but I just found it really hard to like a lot of matches. Some of the finals were great and the Grand Slams were quite nice as well, but the smaller tournaments...meh. Anyway, we now have a full set of matches ahead of us on Monday and Tuesday, so I suppose that I should just shut up and get right to them, eh? On another note, good luck to everyone who participates and an even better luck to everyone who gets a few posts in!
    Day One
Let's start with the obvious one here, which is Williams to beat Sharapova. I've been looking at that bet pretty much ever since the draw was published and I think that there's every chance we're going to see a quick win for the American here. She's not at her best, of course, but there's still a lot of bad blood between the two and Sharapova is in an even worse form, so Serena should just get the job done in what should be an exciting night session. Sharapova doesn't have enough power to compete with ball-bashing right now, it really is that simple.
The second bet that I like is Muchova to recover from her defeat against the in-form Linette with a good win over Rybakina, who just doesn't have enough experience at this level and who will probably need a year or two before becoming competitive in Grand Slams. Muchova is solid, did well in the tournament last time out, and has enough match practice under her belt.
In terms of upsets, I wouldn't be shocked to see Martincova being fairly competitive against Pliskova, who tends to have slow starts and who might not fancy trying really hard against a compatriot that she knows isn't particularly strong. Martincova is coming off the qualifiers and should get the 17.5 games line covered much more often than not imo.
Finally, on the acca side of things, I'm picking Berdych to beat the young American Brooksby, the in-form Nishioka to beat the very average Giron, and Kerber not to mess up against Mladenovic.
Serena Williams (-4.5) to beat Maria Sharapova at 1.87 with Pinnacle
Karolina Muchova (-2.5) to beat Elena Rybakina at 1.83 with Bet365
    T.Martincova/K.Pliskova - Over 17.5 games at 1.72 with Bet365
    Berdych + Nishioka + Kerber at 2.08 with Bet365
    Day Two
On day two, I very much fancy Linette to continue her good form and beat Sharma, who hasn't been doing all that well recently and who doesn't have much Grand Slam experience either. The fact that Linette has an extra day off should be of a great help and she is a solid type that doesn't have too many letdowns.
Apart from that one, I also like two underdogs, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Andrey Rublev. The latter was naturally very good lately, while Tsitsipas is one of those players that blow hot and cold and who's blowing cold at the moment by the looks of everything. He's obviously somewhat better and more composed, but he's also sliding into some sort of a Zverev situation and could be ripe for a loss in what is a not particularly ideal first round draw. The outright price is juicy and appeals. Meanwhile, GGL seems to be going through a nice patch with a good run in the qualifiers, while Isner has been very disappointing recently. He would in an even poorer form without the serve to fall back on and this is the factor that isn't exactly making me love the outright option, but we're getting a nice price for four or more sets and that's what I'm going to go for.
Magda Linette (-2.5) to beat Astra Sharma at 1.88 with Pinnacle
Andrey Rublev to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas at 2.92 with Pinnacle
    J.Isner/GGL - Over 3.5 sets at 1.83 with Unibet
    Outrights
In terms of outrights, there are only a couple that I fancy. First, I like the odds for Nadal to win the entire thing, as he's been the most convincing of the bunch in the lead-up tournaments and as he still has what it takes to win. Second, Medvedev looks a juicy price to go further than Federer, as I think that the latter might suffer some sort of a Millman accident again after looking mentally beaten after Wimbledon. And, even if that doesn't happen, Medvedev's form might be good enough to carry him further on its own.
Rafael Nadal to win US Open 2019 at 4.00 with Bet365
Daniil Medvedev (vs. Roger Federer) at 3.00 with Bet365

good luck! but after seeing Osaka's match i'm not sure she can trouble Kivi. !.70 on Kivi looks very tempting.

the WTA card looks like a complete coin toss. However that represents some value for a medium stake bet.
    Osaka vs bertens
I have gone against Osaka in both her matches. she has patches where she plays well, but when she has won a set, her opponent has helped her by spraying unforced errors. kerber was serving for the match against osaka and lost her head to lose the second set 7-5. Bertens was 3-0 down against stephens and lost the first set only on TB. Won the second and had chances to break in third but couldnt convert. KiKi i feel is playing the better tennis and has the game to trouble Osaka. So i shall be backing the dutch at 2 odd.

    Kerber vs Stephens
Can someone confirm that stephens coach is not with her in this tourney? while a case could be made for both, i think kerber has a knack of putting alot of balls back in play. While Stephens will like to keep the rally short and go for her winners. Now i'm hoping stephens has an off day so Kerber can capitalize. Kerber has made me win money in both her matches, so i will continue to back her.

Both results could be completely different but this is my read on what i have seen so far. BOL

I've taken Bertens myself in a parlay. I'm thinking she will beat Osaka also.. Naomi is getting used as a punching bag at the tour finals by the resident sluggers of the Wonder woman tennis association. Naomi can lose again, because she is not playing her best tennis right now.. Bertens seems to be playing well enough according to the score lines, and can throw fire bombs.

Thanks. it wasn't an easy win..kerber in the second set serving for the match loses the set 7-5. Sloane and kerber really is a coin toss. guess will make a decision on it by tomorrow.

great to see the tennis thread active
The match i am intrigued by is the Kerber vs Osaka match. I saw both of their first round matches. While both lost, really do feel Osaka was worse. Kerber vs bertens in the third set was break after break so it could have gone either way. Osaka struggled big time against Sloane, and the 6-1 third set score reflects that. I dont understand how she is the fav. So i'm gonna be backing Kerber at 2.03. BOL

Did anyone get to see Sloane's match against Anett? Was she playing remarkably well or did Anett just crumble?
I saw the Kasatkina match, she broke very first game and then when on her game gave three BPs by 3 consecutive Dfs.Tthat was put down to her playing for the first time on that particular court. Through out the match anypowerful returner could have smashed the first & second serves being put up by Kasatkina. While the young russian has all the talent in the world, this will be uncharted territory for her. All remaining players will be highly motivated as this title is there for anyone to win.
Really feel value lies with Sloane.

I saw both of serenas previous two matches.. excepted her to struggle in both of them. Against Barty in the first set. it was Serena playing bad rather than Ashley playing particularly good. 2nd & 3rd set,,Barty threw everything at Serena and she came top everytime.
Maria against KaPlis was a less intense affair. KaPlis hardly had anything to offer making it way easier for shara.
Really feel if Shara can keep her first serve percentage up, she has a chance. but expect it to be a tight match.

Klizan..what can be said about him..his performance in the qualies was an utter joke..he saved mps yesterday to progress..3 setters in 3 days is bound to take a toll on him.Agree with most of Czechs picks but Klizan i'm not gonna be touching. Having said that he'll probably cruise home.

Really feel there is money to be made in both the WTA matches.
I backed Kaskatina in the previous match giving into the whole "Petra  has played 8 matches in the past 10 days". But from little bit of what i saw of the match, she blew away her opponent. Now Pliskova was much more impressive in her match against Halep. But she is infamous for going missing in the later stages of the tournament. I think it will boil down to the first set, if petra loses it, its hard to see her winning the next two. Backing KaPlis.

KiKi has made me alo't of money this tournament. Backed her agaisnt Woz and Shara and she won both of them. It feels she has her head screwed on straight this week. Garcia has been impressive for a couple of weeks now. She is keeping it simple and it has been paying dividends. As much as i want to back KiKi, i feel garcia can win easy points on her serve which might prove to decisive in the end. She is yet to lose a set this week. Backing Garcia.

Did anyone get to see KiKi's last match? I saw Wozniacki's match.. and she was horrible. Barty was leading 4-2 in the final set and just fell apart. It was the unforced errors by Barty that gifted the match to woz. Really feel KiKi might be worth backing here at odds of 2.29.
