----------------------------- hope you had a good bet ginge---oh well seen your post above--1 that got awayWent to Salisbury on Thursday. In the two year old maiden Diamond Dinkum played up in the paddock on debut. Very green, spooking at least 3 times. (Spooking is when a horse walking around the paddock gets frightened by something and wants to flee, sometimes reering up. The stable lad has to act quickly, letting the long reign through his hands to the end. So the horse has room). This case wasn't as bad as that, each time Diamond Dinkum would calm down almost immediately. I was told by racing journalist Neil Morrice that Henry Candy hadn't had as good a two year old since Airwave. However, Diamond Dinkum's paddock antics put me off a bet. In the race itself, he was green early, being pushed along. Once the horse got to know what was required though, he made ground up easily and won going away with limited assistance from the saddle in the latter stages. Considering paddock performance (put down to greeness more than temperament), Diamond Dinkum did well to win at all. Make no mistake, he's quite a bit better than he showed. Apparently will have another run beforehand, but may well end up at Royal Ascot. -
