I was quite surprised that Goffin beat Tabilo last round. Expected a tougher match and a Tabilo win. Goffin plays Mannarino today and it is probably a perfect style matchup for him. Not crazy about taking the side of medium low favorites but I think Goffin wins here.

After Dan Evans amazing comeback against Khachanov (I think he was down 4-0 in the 5th), I am not sure how much is left in the legs. He plays Mariano Navone in what the bookies see as a pretty even contest. For me this is a good one to wait and see 1st set. Navone wins it, I am not sure that a non fully recovered Evans can fight back. And the problem here (for Evans) is that when you have been in bad form, you don't get the deep tournament runs, and you don't get match practice. And constant matches have a different effect on the body and mind, than practice. So that 5.5 hour marathon the other night may really affect him going forward, because (recently) he is not used to it.

Two matches worth keeping an eye on are the Andreeva M. v Krueger match and the  Boulter v Bouzas Maneiro match.

Krueger has had a very good recent run winning 4 matches at US OPEN (3 quali) , 3 in Cincinnati (beat Vekic and Osaka)  and 4 in Toronto (crushed Cocciaretto and Fernandez).  Andreeva is very tough but this could be going to 3 sets. Bouzas Maneiro is an interesting prospect. Only 21, already ranked 70 ... a complete destruction of a fading Martic. A match to keep an eye on.

    Only one underdog today

    Hard   ATP 8/29/2024   US Open  Kokkinakis T. Borges N.               0.4 2.1

Borges definitely has enough game to win this one.

Will have a small wager on 4 low priced favorites. Going Osaka (over Muchova), Paolini over Pliskova , Shnaider over Tauson and Dolehide over Errani. It is around 3 to 1. Probably the 3 1st round (non seeded) opponents nobody wanted were Ostapenko, Anisimova and Andreescu. So Paolini and Osaka have aleady shown they are in excellent form. Andreescu was very tough and played well.

If I had to choose 2 of the above 4 I would be choosing Paolini and Osaka. Osaka is not a 2xUS Open champion for nothing. She has won 4 majors all on hard court.

Would almost be looking at Osaka as an overall winner, but being unseeded makes the journey much tougher. Mouchova, Potapova, Paolini just to get through to round 4. Then it gets harder.

I always love your analysis.  It shows you have a good understanding of the tennis game and the individual players. Kudos mate.

Just awful results again. I swear I win when I don't post.  Bublik really should have won. He was up and in control 2 sets to 1. Anisimova just ran into an opponent who played very well. Zheng could in the whole thing.

Frech is swinging from 1 extreme to the other. 2-0 up and then loses 10 of the next 13 games which is ridiculous, against an opponent who has no form. Now wins 4 in a row to make it 4-4. Hardly confidence-building stuff.

Thanks for your confidence in your picks. Even when there is a flop in the results, we still appreciate your effort. Keep posting mate.
