A good winner yesterday in Skittlebombs (BOG 9/1) was followed by sheer frsutration as all three horses nominated for the treble finished in second place. Captain Winters also found one too strong as he was second at Haydock. Some good looking racing coming today with decent cards at Doncaster, Newton Abbott and Sandown.

    1-35 Doncaster

Youarenotforgiven had his first run for Tony Carroll last time. He is fully entitled to improve for that run and has to be high on any shortlist given that he finished a creditable second of eight runners in handicap at Nottingham just 18 days ago. He had shown precious little for Jamie Osborne in three previous starts so the fact he ran so well first time out for new connections gives hope that he can improve once more. Ray Dawson has been having his fair share of winners lately and he has already partnered a handful of winners for this stable this year. Youarenotforgiven remains unexposed and is capable of more.

    2-00 Newton Abbott

Ami Des Flots had her first run for Kim Bailey having left the Bernard Martin stable. She clearly benefitted from the move to the new yard as she was an excellent second at Ffos Las over two miles four weeks ago. She will be suited by this step up in trip and will hold major claims given that she is such an unknown quantity against these. The Fergal O’Brien trained Pop The Champagne who beat her on that last occasion has gone on to win again at Worcester giving the form a timely boost. Likely to be prominent from the outset, David Bass will be trying the best he can to improve on that game effort last time.

    2-10 Doncaster

Sea On Time confirmed the promise that she displayed on debut when readily getting off the mark over an extended 1m3f at Haydock a couple of weeks ago. The Willie Haggas trained filly remains open to further improvement and she is hard to oppose, despite carrying a 6lb penalty. Stevie Donohoe replaces Cieren Fallon in the saddle but this daughter of Sea The Stars is expected to progress again. The trainer has a near 30% strike rate at Doncaster with his runners so the fact she turns up here is noteworthy. The jockey also nearly has a 30% strike rate when riding for the trainer so everything points to a huge run.

    2-45 Doncaster (Treble)

Mostly Cloudy arrives in search of a four-timer, having gone up almost two stone in the process. It would be no surprise if the son of Harzand had further progression to come after his latest victory at Nottingham where he won by an easy five lengths when defeating Pons Aelius. The runner up has come out and run well again to give the form a slight boost as he finished in the same position in a subsequent race at Newcastle just last week. Staying is clearly his forte and a further nine-pound hike in the ratings may not prove enough to stop him over a longer distance which promises to suit.

    NAP 3-20 Doncaster

Jawwaal has been dropped a further two pounds in the ratings and is beginning to look as though he could be dangerously well handicapped. He is now two-pounds below his last winning mark and he is a multiple course and distance winner. He does need to reverse recent form with Burning Cash but they may not be an impossible task as Jawwaal now receives weight from his old rival as opposed to giving him some. If Michael Dods can get him back to his best, he could prove lethal here.

    3-30 Sandown (Treble)

Golden Voice looks to be improving all the time and the form of his head success over the course and distance on his most recent start was boosted when the fourth, Auditor, came out and won readily at Newmarket almost a fortnight later. A five-pound rise looks manageable for the three-year-old son of Havana Gold and William Haggas' charge looks as though he has the right temperament to go in again.

    4-30 Doncaster

Idoapologise has been out in the wilderness for a long time since his last win back in 2020 but he was narrowly denied over this course and distance on his most recent appearance. He has been dropped a further pound in the weights by the handicapper and with the ground fully in his favour, it would be of no great surprise to see him go well once again. Ben Robinson has ridden him on numerous occasions in the past and can atone for that most recent defeat here.

    4-50 Newton Abbot (Treble)

Nelsons Rock made a successful chase debut over the course and distance last month, jumping soundly. He seems sure to do better today and a five-pound rise may not stop him going in again. That was only his second run following a four-month break and it seems as though the step up in trip to three-and-a-quarter miles really brought out the best in him. Brendan Powell retains the ride on the seven-year-old gelding and with no going concerns, he has to be of obvious interest.

Brazen Idol rewarded followers at 11/2 when going in under Cieren Fallon at Thirsk yesterday and Captain's Bar hit the crossbar for each way backers at Kempton. On top of that the treble was only just touched off as Dubai Welcome went down by a length in his race whilst Jessica Rabbit found one too strong.
Tomorrow's selections are listed below. Good luck all.
    TK

    NAP 2-00 Haydock

Sharp Combo got off the mark at the second attempt in a Wolverhampton maiden over seven furlongs last term. He stepped up markedly from his seasonal reappearance to finish runner-up at Windsor just 10 days ago when beaten by Youthful King. The front two pulled well clear of the remainder of their rivals suggesting that there was more to come. He gets in off the same mark here and now taking another step up in trip, he has to be considered despite top weight.

    TREBLE
    1-30 Haydock

Storm Chaser improved on her seasonal reappearance and made the most of an ever falling mark by romping home over a mile and six furlongs just a week ago. Unbelievably she escapes a penalty for that wide margin success and if in the same mood has to be considered likely to follow up. The yard continues to be in incredibly good form and Mick Channon has sent out three winners inside the last ten days from only a handful of runners. Silvestre De Sousa replaces Rose Dawes in the saddle and this combination warrants utmost respect.

    2-50 Yarmouth

Princeville is an exciting newcomer from the Charlie Appleby team and he is well related to the likes of the Molcomb winner Yalta as well as the likes of Branscombe and Honiton. Being a son of Exceed And Excel, he ought to thrive on this speedy going and no surprise if he has been well schooled at home and shows enough to take this on his racecourse debut. The Godolphin handler has a near 25% strike rate when sending horses here and with the yard in such good form, Princeville can make a winning start.

    6-36 Epsom

Self Praise was a beaten favourite at Newmarket last time but he can be given another chance today. Captain Winters was a fair fourth of eight runners in novice event at this course over six furlongs on his debut just a little over three weeks ago. Having met some trouble in running he looks sure to be much more streetwise this time around. He is sure to benefit from that introduction and his experience of the track ought to give him an added edge. Whilst the yard has been struggling for winners of late, Captain Winters looks a certain improver and no surprise to see him in the winners’ enclosure after this.

Skittlebombz is an absolute model of consistency and fully deserves to get off the mark here. He was only just touched off in a seven-furlong handicap at Kempton last month and now has cheekpieces applied for the first time. He raced on this track on what was only his second start last year and ran with great credit behind Global Wisdom then. A return to turf and this track may well see him improve once again. PJ McDonald knows the Hugo Palmer trained three-year-old well and the pair are respected.

Lost In Time has certainly lived up to his name prior to his most recent start. His form had taken a nosedive despite a promising juvenile career. He had his first run back from a 213-day absence last time and he looked more like the force of old. The booking of Andrea Atzeni certainly catches the eye and the lightly raced five-year-old can make a brave attempt to put his career back on track. Saeed Bin Suroor clearly feels that the embers still burn inside this son of Dubawi and if putting in a similar run to last time should go very close.

Taaqat has shown some good decent form of late suggesting her time may be close at hand. A tongue tie is applied for the first time today and she now finds herself dropping into Class 4 company. She represents a top yard and has an excellent jockey on board in Jim Crowley so she has to be of interest for an in form combination.

It could be significant that Adam Kirby retains the ride and has ridden him previously. He ought to know all there is about the son of Lawman and with the Clive Cox horses starting to run into some form, the duo cannot be discounted from this despite top weight.

Brian Hughes has partnered the six-year-old on his last 4 outings and they command respect here.

    2-30 Haydock

Captain Winters was a fair fourth of eight runners in novice event at this course over six furlongs on his debut just a little over three weeks ago. Having met some trouble in running he looks sure to be much more streetwise this time around. He is sure to benefit from that introduction and his experience of the track ought to give him an added edge. Whilst the yard has been struggling for winners of late, Captain Winters looks a certain improver and no surprise to see him in the winners’ enclosure after this.

    3-00 Haydock

Skittlebombz is an absolute model of consistency and fully deserves to get off the mark here. He was only just touched off in a seven-furlong handicap at Kempton last month and now has cheekpieces applied for the first time. He raced on this track on what was only his second start last year and ran with great credit behind Global Wisdom then. A return to turf and this track may well see him improve once again. PJ McDonald knows the Hugo Palmer trained three-year-old well and the pair are respected.

    3-30 Haydock

Lost In Time has certainly lived up to his name prior to his most recent start. His form had taken a nosedive despite a promising juvenile career. He had his first run back from a 213-day absence last time and he looked more like the force of old. The booking of Andrea Atzeni certainly catches the eye and the lightly raced five-year-old can make a brave attempt to put his career back on track. Saeed Bin Suroor clearly feels that the embers still burn inside this son of Dubawi and if putting in a similar run to last time should go very close.

    5-20 Newbury

Taaqat has shown some good decent form of late suggesting her time may be close at hand. The daughter of Pivotal is still only lightly raced compared to a few of these and it wouldn’t be impossible to suggest that she can improve past them. As a three-year-old she receives weight from all bar one rival and her young jockey’s claim could well give her an added edge. She has had more than a month to get over her recent exertions and looks primed to go well.

    7-03 Newbury

Tarhib won her first couple of starts as a three-year-old and having had a wind operation, got back on track with her sights lowered when runner-up at Chelmsford a fortnight ago. A tongue tie is applied for the first time today and she now finds herself dropping into Class 4 company. She represents a top yard and has an excellent jockey on board in Jim Crowley so she has to be of interest for an in form combination.

    8-40 Newbury

Codify is still a maiden but he posted good third place in handicap over the course and distance just three weeks ago. It was a marked improvement from what we saw on his seasonal reappearance at Sandown in May and no surprise to see him take another step forward. It could be significant that Adam Kirby retains the ride and has ridden him previously. He ought to know all there is about the son of Lawman and with the Clive Cox horses starting to run into some form, the duo cannot be discounted from this despite top weight.

Good evening all. Yesterday was tough to take with Ghaly and Mr Yeats both going closest to winning their respective races. We go again today with the selections from Worcester, Kempton, Bath and Thirsk. Hopefully a bit more luck on our side.

Rookie Trainer made the most of a return to hurdles last time when beating Nelson’s Rock by two lengths over this course and distance. He cut no mustard when given three spins over fences prior to that and clearly relished the smaller obstacles. Despite being raised five pounds by the handicapper for that success, Neil Mulholland clearly has him in good heart and no reason to think he cannot run well again. Kevin Brogan keeps the ride on the eight-year-old and with the ground still on the good side, the pair look a force to be reckoned with.

    6-00 Kempton

Eternal Pearl looks to have been given a decent chance to finally shed her maiden status at the fourth attempt. The daughter of Frankel was a beaten favourite at Newbury last time, however she was not disgraced on that occasion. Prior to that she was only narrowly denied in a Listed race at Goodwood when beaten by Sea Silk Road. Without a shadow of a doubt she brings the best form to the table here and she should prove too tough for the opposition.

    6-30 Kempton

Dubai Welcome was fancied to run well despite twenty months off the track at Kempton 4 weeks ago. He proved that he retained all of his ability as he finished a good second to Pearl Beach. The five-year-old is still far from exposed having only had a handful of runs in his career and there is surely more to come from the son of Dubawi. Ray Dawson has a 36% strike rate when riding for Saeed Bin Suroor and the pair look certain to go close. Dubai Welcome has run well around here in the past and he can give all of his rivals a bloody nose here.

    7-50 Bath

Tribuna Uffizi looked to be an unlucky loser when attempting to supplement his recent win at Windsor when lining up at Leicester just a couple of weeks later. He endured a troubled passage and lost out by the narrowest of margins to Thunder Flash. George Scott has found a race filled with rivals who are terribly out of sorts and who have already endured a somewhat disappointing season. There is still the possibility of further improvement from this four-year-old gelding and no surprise if he finds the winning habit once again.

    Singles

    2-20 Thirsk

Photograph looked as though he was running back into some sort of form when last seen out at Ripon a fortnight ago. He is beginning to look dangerously well handicapped and now takes another step down in grade. Despite top weight, unlike most of rivals these he at least hinted that the spark still flickered and Declan Carroll will be hoping that Harrison Shaw can re-ignite the enthusiasm of his five-year-old. This is low grade stuff and it may not take much winning, so he has to be of serious interest.

    2-50 Thirsk

Brazen Idol was unfortunate not to win at Wolverhampton last week and was only touched off by the narrowest of margins. Despite fluffing his lines when slow to break, if getting away on terms today he ought to prove a tough nut to crack. He gets in near the foot of the handicap and now has the assistance of Cieren Fallon in the saddle. Not many of these are in any sort of form and if repeating the same sort of efforts, he has been showing on recent starts, he ought to go very close here.

    4-10 Worcester

Jessica Rabbit returned to winning ways in impressive fashion over two-and-a-half miles at Uttoxeter two weeks ago and a six-pound rise for that win may not be enough to stop the eight-year-old this afternoon. That most recent run came following a seven-month lay-off and she has to command respect with her yard in such excellent form. She has absolutely no issues with the trip or the good ground and young Liam Harrison has been called upon to ride as he can take a useful three pounds off her back. Likely to go extremely well.

    7-30 Kempton

Moel Arthur has already shown his appreciation for this type of surface as he showed when winning at Lingfield back in February. He was short of room at a crucial stage but still posted a career-best effort when runner-up at Sandown last time when chasing home High Wells. He commands plenty of respect back on the all-weather.

    8-00 Kempton

Captain’s Bar finds himself in this low grade affair carrying top weight. He capitalised on the drop in grade when winning a six-runner seller at Lingfield over six furlongs just under a fortnight ago. He was value for extra having covered more ground than most on that occasion and Richard Hannon now calls upon a seven-pound claimer to alleviate some of the pressure. Many of his rivals here are not in the best of form and no surprise to see him take full advantage.

Hi all, its TK here deputising for The Brigadier who is off on hols this week. Hopefully a few winners coming our way as the week progresses. Tuesday's selections below ahead of posting onsite later.

    2-30 Brighton (NAP)
Silver Bubble recorded a first ever career success last time out and more importantly it came over this course and distance. The four-year-old son of Mayson ran out a comfortable victor here when scoring under Saffie Osborne just three weeks ago. Gay Kelleway has her team in great shape and actually has a fifty percent record with her runners at this track (winning 3 from 6). Saffie is back in the saddle this afternoon and ought to know a little more about her partner today. The front two pulled some ten lengths clear in that previous race and if similar tactics are deployed today, they have to have every chance of following up.
    3-00 Brighton Treble (TREBLE)
Shut Up And Dance comes here in search of a hat-trick for team Osborne. He has improved markedly since being upped to this middle distance trip and has scored readily on recent starts at Windsor and Chepstow. Turned out quickly for a potential third win in seven days, he is clearly taking his racing well and now Saffie Osborne comes into ride him for the first time. The good to firm ground shall certainly be of benefit to him and with all other rivals seemingly struggling for form, he has to be high on any shortlist.
    5-25 Chepstow (TREBLE)
Crosstitch is improving with each run and he went closest when beaten just over a length at Lingfield last time. This will be his fourth career start and Michael Bell now applies a visor for the first time. Running in the colours of Her Majesty the Queen, the three-year-old son of Recorder is reunited with David Egan. The pair combined when finishing third to Blatant at Leicester last month and the young jockey should know a bit more about his mount this afternoon as a consequence.  Dresden Green looks the biggest threat for a very much in-form William Haggas team.
    7-00 Chepstow (TREBLE)
Infiniti has showed that he has improved beyond all recognition this season following two wins having reverted back to the flat. He moved yards at the end of last year and embarked on a hurdling campaign for Kevin Frost. He won at the fourth attempt over two-and-a-half miles at Market Rasen and then disappointed when attempting to follow up at Worcester on his next start. Frost made an inspired decision to take advantage of his relatively low handicap mark on the flat and it has reaped dividends. Aiden Brooks is a talented seven-pound claimer and he has a 100% record when riding the nine-year-old. No surprise to see the pair go close again back over two miles.
    2-15 Hamilton
Frisky remains lightly raced but has improved with each start so far this season. The three-year-old daughter of Bated Breath was not beaten far when third at Bath on her most recent appearance. She brings the most experience to the table here and now has the added assistance of Will Buick in the saddle for the first time. The combination command respect in a race where she will be fully race fit and the jockey is riding with utmost confidence.
    2-45 Hamilton
Ghaly has been off the track for well over eighteen months, but Saeed Bin Suroor has obviously deemed the fires to still be burning brightly. To send him on a 700-mile round trip just for the sake of it seems pretty ludicrous and this looks a sensible starting point for the son of Dubawi. He is well bred to get this one-mile trip and the last time that he encountered ground as decent as this was when he won on his local track at Newmarket back in 2020. He is extremely lightly raced compared to quite a few of these and there may well be more to come from him. Kevin Stott has won on Godolphin horses in the past and he looks to be a sensible jockey booking.
    3-50 Hamilton
Judy’s Park makes only her third appearance on the turf here this afternoon and from her two previous tries on it, she seems to handle it rather well. She is vastly experienced from running on the all-weather and even picked up a win at Newcastle over this trip back in March. George Boughey has a perfect 100% strike rate at Hamilton this season will all three of his previous runners having won on their visits. Will Buick rides Judy’s Spark for the second time today and he too has a 25% strike rate when teaming up with the trainer. A lot in their favour off bottom weight and warrants closer consideration than most.
    6-50 Stratford
Texard makes a quick reappearance having just won a little over 48 hours ago. He was a three-time winner in his native France and now encounters identical conditions to those he faced on Sunday at Uttoxeter. Tom Scudamore is back on board and the Pipe team are clearly hoping to strike again whilst the iron is hot despite a seven-pound penalty. Being the youngest in the line-up and possibly the least exposed means there is certainly further room for improvement. He showed a gutsy and determined attitude in that last race and will be a force to be reckoned with if in the same mood here.
    7-20 Stratford
Mr Yeats was on the scoresheet at Ludlow back in May before finishing a good second in an extended three-mile handicap hurdle at Huntingdon 25 days ago. He was only just edged out after mistakes at last two flights cost him dear. This drop back to two-and-three-quarter miles will be very much in his favour as will the re-association with jockey Mitchell Bastyan. Bastyan has won twice before on this gelded son of Yeats and he also has a 50% strike rate when riding at Stratford this season. There should still be plenty more to come from this five-year-old and he if ironing out that odd error, he is likely to go extremely close here.
    8-20 Stratford
The Plumber made a reasonable enough debut over hurdles at Southwell just a little over three weeks ago. He is expected to come on in leaps and bounds for the experience. Whilst no match at all for the winner on that occasion, he shaped with a degree of promise and Amy Murphy is likely to find suitable alternatives for him. Jack Quinlan has partnered this five-year-old son of Shirocco three times in the past (including in bumpers) and if progressing, he is worthy of a second look here.

Tumbleweed King got a reaction from fd1972uk in Racing Chat - Tuesday 28th June
