Blackburn vs Wigan
The last game we're covering before Christmas is the 7:45pm GMT kick-off on Monday night between Blackburn and Wigan at Ewood Park. Can either of these sides get a victory to head into the busy festive period on a high note or will we see the two teams nullify each other? The odds are backing one team but the ELO ratings are backing another. Let's take a look!
Blackburn come into this game in a decent run of form. Tony Mowbray's men are undefeated in their last 6 league matches and have moved up to 10th in the league table. Rovers are only 3 points off the play-off places with a game in hand and a win here could potentially see them move up to 7th in the table. Their players will feel confident they can get a win in this game having won 9 of their last 11 league meetings with Wigan at home.
Wigan are currently propping up the Championship table. The Latics are rock bottom with teams such as Stoke and Huddersfield enjoying that new manager bounce. Only 2 points separate them from safety so the panic button hasn't been pressed yet but Paul Cook will want to get a decent points return from this Christmas period to avoid being cut adrift in the relegation zone. Wigan haven't won in 10 league games now and have only managed 1 win in their last 20 meetings with Blackburn.
Everything is pointing towards a home win here and the odds listed are tempting enough to back. The ELO ratings are only slightly favouring the away side but I don't think it's enough to make them worth backing for a win or even a draw. I can see this being a difficult and arduous game for both sides but ultimately I think Blackburn's current form with the influential Bradley Dack set to return will see them over the line.

Blackburn v Wigan
Blackburn is third on the POS from the last 8 games table counting 4 wins in a row
Wigan is in the last place, having the worst offense and away performance
unless there is something going on,like injured players or punished or smth like that, which im not aware of,i say that bookies make
really bad choices on the odds here
Blackburn to win and over 1.5 goals
at 2.12

I think that, as a general rule, is a bad idea to bet just based on everybody knows. I am pretty sure that the recent results are very well known and accessible.
Of course, if the form or trend are very good, the team has great probability to win but will not get a correct price for sure
On the other hand, if not check the recent results, what else to check? Ok, will check the players, the field, ...etc. but how will put this in numbers? Can somebody tell me how will affect the performance if 2 important players are missing? will have 15% less chances to win, maybe 20%? The odds have value? I would calculate how the team performed without those palyers...in the recent games.
Finally, the recent results are the best we have to start with and to have a starting number (percent). If we are not able to find more and to adjust those percents in a direction or another the best option is to drop the game and to look for something else.

Maybe it is bad idea, but it's certainly nice idea, I enjoy crumbling numbers, especially when you have a vast source of statistcis, similar to one created by poster above, Giraldi, check site in his signature to see what is next level statistics. And I think it's valid as long as you see betting as entertainment and not source of living.
As for your article, I can hardly take seriously people who play "football" using hands, and who christened actual football as "soccer". Why not checking native British expert, Joe Buchdachl, he has several amusing books on that topic, and you can find nice and short briefing on stats based betting in his site: https://www.football-data.co.uk/ratings.pdf
Finally, PuntersLounge has its own stats based system, ELO Ratings, and @NickP recently proved that it can be successfull, see here:
Overall, I believe you cannot generalize that systems based on stats are good or bad; they are as good or as bad as you can process available statistics and predict when match will follow the trend and when it will deviate.

Leeds v Hull
looks like a btts and over 2.5 goal to me,despite Leeds has only 22% of their home games ending with over 2.5 goals
i believe that Hull, who is in the third POS on the last 8 matches table will score
but since both teams scoring and conceding mostly at SH i ll wait till HT to place my bet
if the score at HT is 0-0 i ll bet on over 1.5 goals
if there is a goal on FH,no matter which team scored it,i ll bet on btts and over 2.5
in any other scenario i wont place a bet

Stoke City v Luton Town
So the game taking my fancy tonight in the Championship is the rib tickler that is Stoke City against Luton. Both teams love conceding goals. It's like they've both forgot the rules of the game. Clean sheet ratio for both teams this season is as follows: Luton ONCE in FIFTEEN games. Stoke TWICE in FIFTEEN games. That's 3 times between them in 30 games. So in 90% of the games played between both teams they have conceded at least 1 goal. I suspect a 2-1 win for either team.
Both Teams To Score @ 1.80!
Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.78
Prediction: Stoke City 2 - 1 Luton Town
Note: ELO ratings suggest Stoke City should win this by at least 14 goals.
