The big handicap on the opening day of Royal Ascot is the Ascot Stakes.

This heritage handicap is open to horses aged four years or older. It is run over 2 miles, 3 furlongs and 210 yards. The off time is 17.00.

20 go to post and with many bookmakers offering 6 places it makes it an excellent betting proposition.

I have looked at the statistics over the last 9 years and these are my key conclusions.

Older horses have by far the best record with 7- to 9-year-olds having 6 wins from 44 runs and a profit of 127 points at Betfair Starting Price. The remainder have just 3 wins from 127 runs with a loss of 79 points.

It is best to side against those horses with obvious form. Horses that finished in the 1st 6 last time have recorded 4 wins from 123 runs with a loss of 74 points.

Ideally the horse should have had a reasonable rest from its last race. Horses that last ran between 37 and 94 days ago have a record of 7 wins from 76 runs with a profit of 123 points.

Only 1 horse matches these criteria.

    EAST ASIA 100/1

I suggest backing this each way with bookmakers offering 6 places.

Love this pick, don't think they've been trying very hard with it recently. Skybet going 7 places but only 66/1 so taken some 100/1 e/w top 6.

Do they have to declare a muzzle?

Cracking racing, don't think I'll be betting much, but a guy on twitter napped Chillingham (22/1) in the Copper Horse so I'm playing each way on that one, will see if anyone is doing 6 places tomorrow, but Mullins seems pretty confident the fav is going to do the business.

The draw data from the last two years averages

Out at both stall 8 and stall 9.

Using both the winners of the last two runnings and the average winning stall from the first three home in both years.

    That gives

    YASSER

    Win

    And

    ROCKET ROD

    Each way

Amazing stuff, 12/1 and 25/1 winners inside 5 mins 😲

Yep, competitive race where most have good chance of winning . I agree about magic Saint at Stratford in the hunter chase.  Top 3 rated were Magic , Clear The Run way and your selection. Clear The Runway now 14s which is a massive drift .

Yeah should be a good race, Timeform ratings on the Sportinglife website have Noahthirtytwored well clear and been backed but I don't really fancy that one even getting lumps of weight.

Had some more on mine at 3's 😁

3.40 Newton Abbot Magic Saint 9/2

Decent class 2 race with 2-3 improvers. Light N Strike and Clear The Runway need to prove they can win off their current marks with the former recording a very good time last time out . The selection though is Paul Nichols Magic Saint who’s absolutely thrown in here running in it’s first handicap since earlier in the year last handicap mark 143 now 127. He’s been running in hunter chases for a bit now without pulling up too many trees but this is not as hot as the handicaps he was once used to .Not as good as once was but as I’ve said he really is thrown in and has a good claiming jockey on board to aid the cause a bit more.  Interesting race.

    5 points win

Gone for the fav (3.35 on betfair exchange), impressive last time and loves summer ground. Thought Magic Saint could pick them up and carry them at Stratford and it's a worry that he wasn't able to win that.

Running a good race until clouting the last, wasn't sure who was going to win until then 🤢

I hope that this is not a daft question.  Why is the betting halted on the Exchange before the race has finished ?   When the betting is halted I don't know whether to rescue a Lay Bet or leave it to run.  I've had a couple of narrow squeaks which I could have prevented if I could have put on a Back Bet.  I couldn't do that because the betting had been halted on the Exchange and I had to listen to the continuing commentary without being able to act.

Why do they halt the betting before the race has finished ? Would be grateful for comments.  Thank you.

TV pictures can have a substantial delay from 'live', probably something to do with that (otherwise those on track could have a bigger advantage).

Going Notts tomorrow so thought I would join in. Miracle if this does any good but here goes.

    image.jpeg.d9746074ee5e6358282c05cadde7e75a.jpeg

It was a good start with the ex French horse somehow poking her nose in front from an unpromising position...but quickly went down hill. Couple of them slowly away and none of them landed a blow. Had the winner in singles online at 12/1 and on track at 8/1 so actually made a profit despite only one being any good. Re-did the lucky 15 in the morning for BOG and came out with £10.24 for a small loss. Notts races was cold and windy 😑
