  1. Thanks Fader for all your hard work over the last few weeks and congratulations to all the prize money winners.

As Fader says I will be taking over the admin of the competition. Be gentle with me whilst I get to grips with it.

Any errors you notice don't be shy in letting me know, I won't take it personally !

Good luck to everybody in the December BILLY HILLS NAP COMPETITION

I’m at point now where I’d like an income for later on in life. I’m self employed so don’t have a company pension to fall back on

The earlier you invest the better due to compound growth, I think it was Albert Einstein who called compound growth the eight wonder of the world.

I switched to footy betting a couple of years ago ........ since then I've lost all the money I'd won on the horses over the preceding 10 years plus a couple of hundred on top

At the moment I'm on Leicester who are going to lose at home to relegation certainties Fulham

Then I'm on West Ham and I think if that loses I'll have to get a grip and take a lengthy break from footy betting

I've made a bit of money on footy but just don't get the same enjoyment as I do with horse racing, it's probably being a Sheff Wednesday fan that does it !

Maybe the wonderful horses that we bet on are proper racing fit by December, so that may show up in your profits. I’m surprised how many jump horses even late November have yet to race that season. Paul Nichols has got off to a good start. I could be wrong but doesn’t he usually take time to warm up?

I've had a quick look at Nichols stats and he appears to do better in the 2nd half of the season. He has an AE of 1.05 from February to April but only 0.96 from November to January.

  5. Yep I retired from work a few years ago. It is easier to make money on the stock market than horse racing but you need to know what you are doing. I am at an advantage because I have a financial background. It is also easy to lose money, I lost about 30% of my investment when the virus hit in February / March. I've made most of it back but it was an uncomfortable time (certainly worse than losing a horse race!.)

It's easy to become disillusioned when you have a bad run but unfortunately that's the nature of the beast.

I had an excellent October but November has been very disappointing despite a couple of longshots obliging.

For some reason November tends to be a poor month for me but December is a lot better so roll on tomorrow.

I will be having a look at Nicky Henderson's runners in December, he is the most profitable trainer to follow according to my records but beware his favourites !

In the 'olden days' you had to provide a few sentences of reasoning with your selection which dissuaded people from pin sticking long shots and trusting to luck

personally I think it was a better competition then and you could see why people picked their horses

on the other hand it did put a lot of people off joining in and the numbers playing were lower

Yes, it's difficult to strike a balance, I think if you randomly picked 100/1 shots you would probably win the competition a couple of time a year but if you bet real money on them you would lose a fortune.

Perhaps it might be good to have an annual naps competition, that should be a truer test. Anybody any views on this ?

Always look out for S.Humphrey horses here at Fakenham, booking of B.Frost also caught the eye.

Hope you are right. I am also going for one of these but for a different reason, The Happy Chappy in the 2.20.

I do like horses that won the last race by a wide margin, in this case 33 lengths, albeit in a 3 runner race.

Three fallers today that might  be worth keeping an eye on  in the near future imo.

I think the fact that horses have fallen or unseated rider puts people off them so they often represent good value when they run next time.

I noticed there were a couple on the TV races today, FLASHTHESTEEL won at 12/1 and THE HOLLOW GINGE placed at 50/1, hardly a representative sample but food for though and something else I need to look at in a bit more detail.
