Another one from my 'tracker'. 7.30 - Newcastle - Rain Cap - 10/1 EW (1/5th 4 places) - Although yet to win on the all weather, was desperately unlucky LTO when travelling 2 for 1 and nowhere to go. Also, only beaten 1/2 length over CD in September. At the price, and with 4 places, looks definitely worth an EW bet.7 points

I am really keen on Rose Of Arcadia in the 2.35 at Chepstow tomorrow. She is a horse the yard have always thought a fair bit off, but she lost her way over fences last year after showing fair ability over hurdles. She went off favourite for the G2 Novices' Mares' Hurdle at Newbury last March, but looked in need of more of a stamina test when finishing 5th, something she will get tomorrow. She made a good return when 3rd in a Class 2 handicap at Wincanton in November, but then went over fences at Cheltenham and Wincanton and she struggled and made mistakes at the former. The Tizzards then sent her pointing for Freddie Gingell to ride and she well and truly got her confidence back. She bolted up by 30L at Badbury Rings in February and then a couple of weeks later beat Silsol by 6L at Charlton Horethorne. Silsol is no slouch and the time was quick as well. Both of those efforts suggest to me that a mark of 113 is lenient and we have Freddie taking 7lbs off as well which is an extra bonus. 3m clearly suits and as long as she is fit and ready then she ought to win this. Mind Sunday has gone to Sam Thomas and he has proven he can improve them even when getting them for Nicky Henderson's yard although she would need to show more than she did for him, but I am wary. Gentle Connections will find this easier than the Persian War last time, but she only won 4 weak races and nothing worries me out of the others. She's only 6/4, but I do think she should be shorter so she rates a confident selection and it wouldn't surprise me if she started odds on. Rose Of Arcadia @ 6/4 with Bet3655 points -
Drew a blank on Saturday then missed two Stable Switchers that won yesterday ? Never mind. I've a fancy for Slippin Jimmy in the 7.00 Newcastle. Seemed to relish his first run on the all weather at Newcastle a couple of weeks ago, finishing well to be second that day over 6 furlongs so todays extra distance may well suit. Down slightly in Class will help as the 3rd places horse went on to win a Class 5 next time up. Missed the early prices but got 4.9 and will go in the place market nearer the off. Big danger of course is the fav, going for a 3 timer after two really easy wins but is up in the weights and down in distance, gives us some hope.........just getting there in the nick of time, returned at 4.1 so 4.9 was nice to get. Stable Switchers with a chance: 4.10 Barenboin currently around the 6.8 mark, was rated 73 when last seen on the all weather, when he was 4th in a Class 3 race, gets in here off 67, down in the handicap, down in Class and off the back of a wind operation, again win and place, looks to have a chance if ready for new stable..........................lovely winner returned at a Bfsp of 6.6 5.25 Cotai Class, some money for this one, still around the 6.0 mark on betfair. If they can get the gelding out of the stall on time looks to have a great chance, win and place.....did get away on terms, faded and never a factor really. Good luck today everyone.5 points

Backing 2 horses in a race is fine IMO, as long as the prices are good enough (wouldn't back Fav + 2fav). Losing runs will certainly be longer with just 1 selection. It is just whatever you are comfortable with. You will be staking 2pts, but if the prices are say minimum 4/1, you will still make 3 pts as long as any one of the 2 wins. Winning 3pts from a 2pt stake is 6/4 your money, that's why you need the better prices. Your past results will tell you more about your selections.3 points -

To cash out or to not cash out that WAS the question for one Betfair punter on Saturday . They spent £67 on a each way lucky 31 & with one leg left cashed out & recieved £57,968 however , if they hadn't the last horse also won & they'd have won £425,000 according to the Sporting Life article . For me I'm , £57,901 up but you'd still be grrrrrrr ? about what could have been , well done to the punter ??2 points -

The £6 quid stake is the whole point, the way i bet with Lucky 15's 2 winners is always a profit, forget the cash out, i won 1200 quid with a reasonable shot at 13k + 10% bonus for £6. Which is why i have a bet in the first place.2 points

It probably makes sense. Let's say you had won £2,000 from the 1st 4 selections then in effect you are betting this £2,000 on the last horse. I assume you wouldn't place a single bet of £2,000. The logic therefore is to lay the last horse for £2,000. Whatever happens you therefore get back the £2,000 that you have made after the 1st 4 selections. The only real loss would be the 2% commission (£40) that you would have to make, probably a small price to pay for this insurance. The only issues are that you would have to have sufficient funds in your betfair account to cover the liability and that there is sufficent liquidity in the betfair market. To be fair all a bit irrelevant to me because I only bet in singles.1 point

Cash out is weighted in the bookies favour but I have a pretty simple rule: which would hurt me more not taking the cash out and potentially losing everything or taking the cash out and potentially losing out on the difference. Quite often I have partially cashed out. I have definitely lost more money cashing out than I have gained but mentally I have been satisfied so have been able to accept it.1 point -

The main one that springs to mind was 4 out of 5 having won and the last was backed from 3/1 (my price) into odds on. I used the 'lay' function to make £500 if the last one lost (would have paid an extra £5k if it won) ... the odds on selection lost by a short head, so it worked out a little better than without. It is all about risk/reward and on that occasion it felt right. I rarely lay selections as it doesn't feel right, but occasionally it can help.1 point -

I have been in a similar situation, personally I NEVER cash out, it is always in the bookies favour. I do though look to 'lay' the selection (especially if it has shortened in the betting) so as to improve the 'consolation' if the last selection loses.1 point -

You are 100% correct Mike. When the kids were young and money was tight i would have cashed that out all day long, I would have hated doing it but family had to come first back then, I put lucky 15's on now as sporting side bets the excitement/buzz when i get the 1st 3 in in is priceless, funny enough today i had 4x £5 trebles and a 10 quid acca on the four Scheirgan horses at hanover and the 1st 3 won the last one was nowhere. If it wasnt for bad luck i would have no luck. ???? I did have a tenner on all TV races at aintree and managed to get a 69/1 forecast up at the Curragh (2:00)1 point
